Jeddah is the visa capital of the western Kingdom. People come in from Makkah, Madinah, Taif, Yanbu and even Abha and Jazan to submit files at centres in Al Mohammadiyah and nearby districts, and Italy runs a full Consulate General here with a district stretching to the Yemeni border. We wrote it for residents of Jeddah and the wider west, Saudi citizens and expatriates both. It sets out which posts and visa centres serve you, quotes the official flight wording, explains how Italy decides whether you belong in its queue, and covers King Abdulaziz International Airport. DummyTicketPrice works online only, with no office in Jeddah.

Does Italy's Jeddah consulate handle your application?
It depends on where you live and where you are going. The consulate says it is competent for Mecca, Bahah, Asir, Jazan, Najran, Medina, the Northern Region and Qurayyat.[1] Jeddah itself is in Makkah Province, so a Jeddah resident falls under the consulate. So does someone in Taif, Madinah or Abha.
Destination matters just as much. Italy issues its short-stay visa "only if the sole or main destination of the trip is Italy".[1] If you plan four nights in Rome and seven in Paris, the French route applies, not the Italian one. Draft the itinerary, count the nights, then choose the consulate.
The consulate also warns that it "DOES NOT RECOGNIZE" agencies or intermediaries who claim to get appointments or visas for an extra fee, and asks for suspicious activity to be reported to its visa email.[1] Book through the official visa application centre website, run by Almaviva and VF Worldwide.[1]
What Italy's tourism checklist says about flights and residence
The consulate's tourism list, published in Italian and English, puts it plainly. Under travel it asks for a "Return booking or ticket or proof of availability of personal transportation".[2] A booking is named first. For most Jeddah residents, a held return reservation answers that line.
The section for non-Saudi citizens adds three items:[2]
- Iqama: still valid three months or more beyond your expected return, plus a copy.
- Return visa for Saudi Arabia: valid beyond the expected date of departure from the Schengen States.
- Bank statement: the last six months, showing regular income or salary, or other verifiable proof of funds.
The employer letter must state your position, function, date of employment, contract length and salary, and be certified by the Chamber of Commerce.[2] Self-employed applicants need an original business licence with a translated copy, and private or domestic staff need a letter from the guarantor plus a copy of the employment contract.[2] The consulate reserves the right to ask for more.

Which other countries can you file for in Jeddah?
| Destination | Jeddah desk | What we could confirm | Our suggestion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Italy | Visa application centre for the consulate[1] | "Return booking or ticket"[2] | Held return reservation |
| Netherlands (residents only) | VFS Global[3] | A reservation is enough; paid ticket not required[4] | Held reservation |
| Germany | TLScontact[5] | The German list is covered on our Riyadh page | Held round-trip reservation |
| Denmark, Iceland | VFS, Tasheel Commercial Plaza[6] | Per the VFS checklist | Reservation unless told otherwise |
| Sweden | VFS Global; decision also collected there[7] | Per the VFS checklist | Reservation unless told otherwise |
| UK | Online, then biometrics[14] | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" seen as weak[12] | Usually skip it |
When a counter list uses the words "confirmed" or "paid" about the ticket, follow it to the letter. Our held booking might not clear that bar; a refundable fare is the safer purchase in that case.
Can you get a US visa at the Jeddah consulate?
Not a routine one at present. According to the US mission, its Riyadh, Dhahran and Jeddah posts are open, yet routine visa work is suspended across the Kingdom until further notice.[8] It directs people to interview where they hold citizenship or residence instead.[8] The same page flags Presidential Proclamation 10998, which since 1 January 2026 limits visas for nationals of 39 countries.[8] A US application does not ask for a flight booking.
Living in Makkah, Madinah, Taif or the south-west
Jeddah is the natural place to submit for the whole Makkah Province, and for Italy it is also the consulate for Madinah, Asir, Jazan and Najran residents.[1] If you live in Abha or Jazan, you face a flight or a long drive for a biometric appointment, and the Dutch page is clear that applicants must attend in person.[3] Plan the trip to Jeddah around the slot, and keep that domestic journey off your visa itinerary.
Indian passport holders in the region have local help with passports. The Consulate General of India in Jeddah lists passport application centres in Jeddah (Hail Street), Makkah, Madinah, Najran, Jazan and Khamis Mushait.[9] If your passport is old or short on pages, renew it there before your Schengen appointment, and then have your residence details moved to the new passport.
On the reservation, start from JED unless you will genuinely fly from Madinah, Taif or Abha. Whatever you choose, the dates must fit inside your exit and re-entry visa.
Flights from King Abdulaziz International
Saudipedia, published by the Ministry of Media, describes JED as lying north of Jeddah in Makkah Province and handling 70 percent of the Kingdom's annual Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.[10] It also describes the newer Terminal 1, with 46 gates and an internal train linking the airport's buildings.[10] Confirm your airline's terminal before you fly.
That pilgrim traffic is worth keeping in mind when you plan a real trip around Ramadan or the Hajj season, as the airport and flights out of it get busy. For the reservation itself, pick a routing that genuinely operates. Emirates, for example, says it runs 21 flights a week between Jeddah and Dubai, with onward connections to Europe and Asia.[11] Check current schedules on the carrier's own site.

Example: a Jeddah family travelling to Italy with their housekeeper
A Saudi family in Al Rawdah plans two weeks in Milan and Lake Como in July, with their Filipina housekeeper travelling too. Italy is the only destination, and Jeddah is in the consulate's district, so all applications go through the Italian visa application centre in Jeddah.[1]
The family's Saudi passports keep their part simple. The housekeeper's file needs more: a letter from her guarantor, a copy of her employment contract, her iqama valid three months past the return date, and a re-entry visa valid beyond the day they leave Schengen.[2] Three days before the appointment, the family orders one reservation with every traveller's name on it, JED to Milan and back. The hotel confirmations and every insurance certificate carry identical dates.
Example: a doctor from Madinah heading to Copenhagen
A Pakistani doctor working in a Madinah hospital has a conference in Copenhagen. Denmark's VFS centre for the west is in Jeddah, at Tasheel Commercial Plaza in Al Mohammadiya District.[6] He books a weekday slot, takes the day off, and drives down.
He follows the VFS checklist for business visits and adds a reservation he orders two days before the slot: Madinah to Copenhagen via a Gulf hub, because that is how he would fly. The dates match the conference letter and his hospital's leave approval. His exit and re-entry visa covers the trip with room to spare.
Packing the folder for a Jeddah appointment
Centre staff work from a checklist, so arrange your papers in its order and bring the list itself. The Dutch government says exactly that: take every document on your checklist plus the checklist.[3] For the travel part, one clean single-sided printout of the reservation is plenty, with every traveller's name easy to read.
For an Italian file from the west, these are the residence items we would double-check the night before, all drawn from the consulate's own list:[2]
- Iqama copy with at least three months left after the return flight.
- Re-entry visa that outlasts the day you leave Schengen, not just the day you land back in Jeddah.
- Employer letter certified by the Chamber of Commerce, naming your job, start date and salary.
- Six months of statements showing salary arriving each month.
Jot the carrier's name and the six-character code inside the folder cover in case staff ask. Before leaving home on appointment day, pull the booking up on your phone. A cancelled hold discovered at 7am can be replaced; one discovered at the counter cannot.
How to order from Jeddah
- Decide the main destination and therefore the consulate.
- Check the iqama and re-entry visa against your return date.
- Type the route into our booking page, beginning at JED or your real departure airport.
- Pay by card via Razorpay: SAR 34 for each name.
- Collect the PDF from your email, usually about 10 minutes later.
- Look up the PNR on the airline's site using our verification walkthrough.
Still waiting? Track it. Rates for other countries: price page.
When should a Jeddah applicant order?
A few days before the appointment. The airline decides how long the hold lasts, and it is up to 2 weeks at most, sometimes less. Italy's consulate quotes a maximum of 15 days for Schengen visas, extendable to 45, and asks you to apply at least 15 days before departure and no more than six months ahead.[1] The EU's own page sets the same limits.[13] If the consulate keeps your file beyond the hold and asks for an update, order a new reservation then.
What to avoid
- Paying an intermediary for an Italian appointment. The consulate says it does not recognise them.
- Filing with Italy when more nights are in another Schengen country.
- A re-entry visa that ends before you leave Schengen.
- Missing a domestic worker's own paperwork when the family travels together.
- Altered PDFs. A PNR the carrier has no record of damages your file.
Jeddah FAQ
Which Italian office handles a Jeddah resident?
The Consulate General of Italy in Jeddah, which covers Mecca, Medina, Bahah, Asir, Jazan, Najran, the Northern Region and Qurayyat. You submit through the visa application centre run by Almaviva and VF Worldwide. Italy must be your sole or main destination, otherwise you apply to the country where you spend most time.
Will Italy accept a reservation from Jeddah?
The tourism checklist names a return booking first, alongside a ticket or proof that you have your own transport, so a booking is listed as acceptable. If the centre gives you a stricter list for your category, follow it. The consulate decides; a flight document never guarantees a visa.
Can I apply for a Dutch visa in Jeddah?
Yes, if you live in Saudi Arabia. The Netherlands uses VFS Global in Jeddah, Riyadh, Al Khobar and Dhahran. For tourism, its list is satisfied by a booking in your name; you are not required to pay for a ticket. Visitors on short Saudi visas must apply in their own country of residence.
I live in Abha. Do I have to come to Jeddah?
For the European visa centres we found in the west, yes, because they are in Jeddah and you must attend in person for fingerprints. Indian nationals can handle passport matters closer to home at the centre in Khamis Mushait. Start your reservation from wherever you will actually fly.
How do I pay SAR 34 in Jeddah?
Use any debit or credit card on our Razorpay checkout. Each passenger is SAR 34, one way or return; a multi-city trip costs that for each pair of legs. We have no counter in the Kingdom, so we cannot accept cash.
Can I check the reservation myself?
Yes. Each PDF carries the airline's booking reference. Enter it with your surname on the airline's manage-booking page. Do this on the morning of your appointment so you know the hold is still there.
Can I use it to fly out of JED?
No. JED check-in staff need a paid ticket, and this seat has no fare behind it. Buy your actual ticket after the visa arrives, for dates the visa covers.

SAR 34 each, ordered online, with a booking reference the carrier's site displays.
Please note: you are buying a held booking, not a ticket. It cannot be flown on and does not secure a visa. Present it as a reservation and let the consulate decide.
