Dummy Ticket for Pakistani Travellers: Embassy Wording, Departure and Onward Proof

Pakistani passport holders face some of the most detailed document lists in the world, and the flight line on those lists is not written the same way twice. Norway says reservation. Germany says confirmed round-trip tickets. The UK says don't send flight bookings at all. If you treat them as identical, you will either spend money you didn't need to or hand in something the mission didn't ask for. This guide sets out what each official page says, in its own words where we could open it in October 2026, and where we think a held reservation is useful and where it falls short.

Why does the exact wording matter so much for Pakistani applicants?

Because the word tells you what to buy. "Reservation" means a booking held under a PNR in your name, which is precisely what we supply. "Confirmed ticket" can mean a paid, issued ticket, and a held reservation may not satisfy it. When a page is ambiguous, ask the mission or its visa centre rather than guessing, and don't describe your document as something it isn't.

Our position is simple. If the list says reservation, there's no reason to risk tens of thousands of rupees on a fare before a decision. If it says confirmed or paid, consider a refundable or changeable fare instead, and keep the receipts.

What do Schengen embassies in Pakistan say about flights?

Germany

The German Embassy in Islamabad and the Consulate General in Karachi share a tourist visa page. That page tells applicants to supply confirmed return tickets spanning their stay. Accommodation must also be proven for every night.^[1] The page does not spell out whether the ticket must be paid. Given the word "confirmed", we'd be cautious: an unpaid hold may not be what the mission has in mind, so a refundable fare is our pick for meeting it. If in doubt, ask the mission before your appointment.

Norway

Norway's 2025 checklist for Pakistan is far clearer for our purposes. Its wording calls for a return or round-trip flight reservation covering Pakistan to Norway and back.^[2] A held booking with a PNR fits that wording directly.

Portugal

The VFS checklist for Portuguese tourism visas in Pakistan asks for a flight reservation, and for trips with several stops it also wants reservations for travel within Schengen, by train, flight or car hire.^[3] If your plan is Lisbon, then Madrid, then Paris, show each leg.

Belgium

Belgium's embassy in Islamabad lists a ticket reservation and a detailed tourist programme for tourist visas.^[4] The programme is where many applicants are weakest. Write a day-by-day plan that matches the flight and hotel dates.

We did not check the Italian, French, Dutch or Spanish lists for Pakistan this month, so follow whatever your provider gives you. The EU rules are fixed: your window to apply opens six months before departure and shuts 15 days before it, and a decision usually takes 15 days, at most 45.^[5] Our Schengen visa guide and Germany guide go deeper, and if your trip covers several countries see Schengen with multiple countries.

Take an example. A Lahore engineer has a Norway appointment at the visa centre on a Thursday and plans to fly in mid-December. We'd order the reservation on the Monday or Tuesday of that week, Lahore to Oslo and back with the planned dates, open it on the airline site and print it. That's a sketch to show timing, not a real applicant.

How do the UK, US and Canada handle flight evidence?

UK. GOV.UK's supporting documents guide for visitors has a numbered section on documents you should not use as evidence. Flight bookings are on it, unless you are transiting, alongside travel insurance and photocopies of bank cards.^[6] For a Pakistani visitor application, we'd leave flights out and put the effort into financial and employment evidence. US. America's State Department asks visitors to wait for the visa before buying any ticket.^[7] A reservation is optional for the interview in Islamabad. See US interview.

Canada. IRCC lists flight details among travel plans you may include with a visitor application.^[8] A reservation shows dates without committing you to a fare. See Canada.

What about Thailand, Malaysia and the Gulf?

Thailand. The Royal Thai Embassy in Islamabad's visa FAQ lists a confirmed air ticket and hotel booking for tourist visas.^[9] Thailand's foreign ministry also says in its e-Visa FAQ that documents, especially airline tickets and hotel bookings, must be genuine.^[10] With "confirmed" in the requirement, a held reservation may not satisfy it. Malaysia. We could not open the Malaysian High Commission in Islamabad's own list this month. Other Malaysian missions publish lists asking for a return flight ticket, so expect the same and check the Islamabad version before applying. See Malaysia.

UAE and Saudi Arabia. News reports have described airlines checking return tickets, cash and hotel proof for UAE visit-visa passengers. We could not confirm those rules on an official UAE or airline page in October 2026, and we could not confirm Saudi tourist e-visa eligibility either. Ask your airline before you fly. What should you expect when leaving Pakistan?

Departure immigration at Pakistani airports is run by the FIA. Its FAQ page wouldn't load for us in October 2026, so we can't quote its document list. Reports in the Pakistani press describe visit-visa travellers being asked for return tickets, hotel bookings and funds. Treat that seriously.

If you are going abroad for employment, the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment handles protector registration. Its website blocked our access this month, so check the current process with BEOE or your licensed overseas employment promoter. A flight reservation has no role in that process.

How should the flight dates fit the rest of your file?

Every date in a Pakistani visa file should tell the same story. Officers read the application form, the leave letter, the hotel confirmation, the insurance certificate and the flight reservation side by side. If the hotel starts on the 12th and the flight lands on the 14th, that is a question you have handed them for free.

We suggest working backwards from the one date you can't move. For a conference, that's the event itself. For a family visit, it's usually your employer's approved leave. Fix that first, then build the flight around it, then book the hotel and insurance to match the flight, not the other way round.

A few habits help:

• Insurance one day either side. Schengen insurance should cover the whole stay; we like a day of margin at each end so a late arrival doesn't leave a gap.
• One itinerary for the family. If a husband, wife and two children apply together, put all four on one reservation so the PNR shows the same flights for everyone.
• Arrival city matches the main destination. Flying into Oslo for a Norwegian visa is easier to explain than landing in Frankfurt and taking a train north.
• No round numbers by accident. If your leave is 16 days, don't book a 21-day trip because the fares looked nicer.

For a Belgian application, the day-by-day programme the embassy asks for is the natural place to show how the flight dates connect to everything else.^[4] For a Portuguese one, list each internal leg in the same order as your hotel bookings.^[3]

How should you prepare the flight document?

1. Get the checklist for your mission and city. Islamabad and Karachi can differ in practice.
2. Underline the flight line. Reservation, confirmed ticket, or nothing at all.
3. Agree your dates with your employer's leave letter and the hotel.
4. Book the hold two days or so before your slot, with every name spelt as the passport spells it.
5. Check it on the airline site using the PNR and surname. Our verification guide walks through it.
6. Label it accurately in your cover letter as a flight reservation.
7. After the visa, buy your ticket and carry it through FIA immigration.

Which mistakes cost Pakistani applicants the most?

• Using a reservation where Germany asks for confirmed tickets without checking what the mission means.
• Father's name in the wrong field. Use the passport's surname and given name, not the CNIC format.
• Old reservations carried over from a cancelled appointment.
• Edited PDFs from agents that do not open on the airline site. Thailand warns that bookings must be genuine. Our provider checklist helps.

• Flying out without a paid return on a visit visa.
