Dammam is the administrative centre of the Eastern Province, and its visa questions are a little different from those of neighbouring Khobar. Many readers here live further out, in Qatif, Jubail, Ras Tanura or Al-Ahsa, and the airport sits well outside the city. So this page leans on geography: which desk is closest for each destination, how far King Fahd International really is from where you live, and what that means for your itinerary and timings. Which desk is nearest for each destination?
For two countries you can stay in Dammam. Italy's Riyadh embassy says its Dammam application centre, managed by Almaviva and VF Worldwide, is one of three in the Kingdom.[6] Sweden also has a VFS office in Dammam, and you hand in the file and pick up the answer at that same counter.[8]
For the rest you cross into Khobar or Dhahran. Germany has used TLScontact alone since October 2022, with a centre in Al Khobar.[3] Denmark's VFS centre for the province is the Unified Visa Application Centre on the second floor of the Al Katheery Centre in Al Rakha, Al Khobar, and it also takes Icelandic applications.[5] The Netherlands lists VFS in Al Khobar and Dhahran.[9]

Italy is worth a note. Its Jeddah consulate lists the regions it covers, and the Eastern Province is not among them, so a Dammam file falls to the embassy in Riyadh while being lodged at the Dammam centre.[6][7] Italy only issues the visa when Italy is your sole or main destination.[6]
A German application from Dammam in brief
The full German Saudi checklist is quoted on our Riyadh page; here are the parts Eastern Province residents tell us they forget. The employer letter must be attested by the Chamber of Commerce and come with a GOSI certificate. The exit and re-entry printout must be the official Absher or Muqeem version in English with Gregorian dates.[4] Germany also says it may check hotel bookings, and that a cancelled or invented one means refusal.[4] For the flight line, a round-trip reservation with the full itinerary is what the list describes.[4]

How far is King Fahd International from where you live?
Further than many newcomers expect. Saudipedia, the Ministry of Media's encyclopedia, gives the distances: about 35.6 km from Dammam, 36.5 km from Qatif, 46.8 km from Dhahran, 57.9 km from Al Khobar and 93.4 km from Jubail.[1] It describes DMM as one of the world's largest airports by land area, about 776 km², opened in 1999 and managed by Dammam Airports Company since 2017.[1] The company itself says it was established on 1 July 2017.[2]
Saudipedia also notes that DMM was the province's only international airport for thirteen years, until Al-Ahsa received its first international flight in 2014.[1] If you live in Hofuf or Mubarraz and will genuinely fly from Al-Ahsa, your reservation can start there, provided the airline flies the route on your dates.

Routes from DMM that look natural on a visa file
Most Europe-bound trips from Dammam connect through a Gulf hub. Emirates says it runs 22 flights a week between Dammam and Dubai, using aircraft including the Airbus A350, with onward connections across Europe and Asia.[13] A Dammam–Dubai–Stockholm or Dammam–Dubai–Milan routing is exactly the sort of itinerary a consular officer expects to see from here.
For trips covering several Schengen countries, keep the reservation simple: one flight into the country you are applying to, and one flight home from wherever you finish. Internal legs by train or bus do not need to sit on the flight reservation, though your cover letter should mention them.
Living in Jubail or Al-Ahsa
Jubail's industrial city and Al-Ahsa's oasis towns have large expatriate communities, but none of the European visa centres we found sit there. Expect a drive to Dammam or Khobar, and remember that the Dutch rules require you to come in person to give fingerprints.[9]
Passport matters are closer to home for Indian nationals. The Embassy of India lists a VFS-run India Passport Application Centre in Jubail, on the ground floor of Al Khater Business Center-2 opposite Jubail Mall, open 09:00 to 15:00 Sunday to Wednesday.[12] It adds that passport and attestation services are also provided in Hofuf/Al Hasa.[12] Spain's Riyadh office rejects passports more than a decade old, so renew early if yours is near that age.[16]
Example: a technician in Jubail visiting Denmark
An Indian process technician at a Jubail plant wants a week in Copenhagen in September. Denmark's centre for the province is the VFS office at the Al Katheery Centre in Al Khobar.[5] He picks a Sunday slot and books the day off, since the trip down the coast and back eats most of a morning.
His passport is nearly ten years old. Spain's Riyadh list, for one, turns away passports issued over a decade ago, and he would rather not test Denmark on it.[16] So he renews in Jubail first, then gets his iqama details moved across.[12] Two days before the slot he orders a reservation from DMM to Copenhagen via Dubai, returning the same way, with dates matching his shift-rotation leave and his hotel. The VFS checklist for tourism goes in the folder with every item ticked.
Example: a Bangladeshi accountant in Al-Ahsa going to Sweden
A Bangladeshi accountant in Hofuf has a cousin in Gothenburg and wants ten days there. Sweden works with VFS Global in Dammam, and processing is quoted at 15 days.[8] That is closer than Riyadh, so she books Dammam.
She checks that her iqama and exit and re-entry visa both run well past her return. Because she will really fly out of DMM rather than Al-Ahsa, the reservation starts at DMM. She orders it three days before the appointment and checks the booking reference on the carrier's website the night before. When her visa comes back, she collects it at VFS, then buys her actual ticket.
Bringing a family in from Qatif or Ras Tanura
Family files are where Eastern Province applications most often come apart, usually over small things. Every person applying, children included, needs their own complete set of papers and their own appointment slot; the Dutch government asks for a separate appointment per person and says applicants must come in person even when under 18.[9] Germany wants iqama copies of all family members living in the Kingdom, with translation, and the parents' signatures on a minor's form.[4]
Our suggestion for a family of four coming in from Qatif: book back-to-back slots on one morning, leave early enough for traffic, and carry a single folder per person, labelled. Put the whole family on one reservation with each name spelt as in its passport, so the officer sees one shared journey. If one child's passport is due for renewal, do that before anything else, because a new passport means moving the iqama details too.
US and UK applications from Dammam
Briefly, since the Khobar guide goes deeper: the US consulate in Dhahran is open, but the US mission states that, for now, it cannot offer routine visa processing anywhere in the Kingdom.[11] For the UK, the Home Office puts "flight bookings (unless transiting)" in its weaker-evidence group for visit applications.[15] Neither needs a reservation from us.

Timing your order around the drive and the appointment
Order two or three days before the slot. The hold lasts a fortnight at most; the carrier fixes the real duration, and it may be less. Brussels gives consulates 15 days to decide, stretching to 45 in harder cases, and accepts files from half a year before departure up to the 15-day mark.[14] If you live in Jubail or Al-Ahsa and must take a day off for the appointment, fix that day first, then order.
What to avoid
- Booking Italy in Riyadh when the Dammam centre is on your doorstep.
- Starting the reservation from an airport you will not use.
- Underestimating the drive from Jubail or Al-Ahsa and missing the slot.
- Cancelling the hotel in a German file while it is being examined.
- Doctored PDFs. A booking the airline cannot locate does real damage.

Is there an Italian visa centre in Dammam?
Yes. Italy's embassy lists a visa application centre in Dammam alongside Riyadh and Jeddah, run by Almaviva and VF Worldwide. The documents for each visa type are on the centre's website. Italy must be your only or main destination; otherwise your file belongs with the country hosting most of your nights.
Where do Dammam residents apply for a German visa?

Is the Danish visa centre in Dammam?
No, it is in Al Khobar: the VFS Unified Visa Application Centre on the second floor of the Al Katheery Centre, opposite SABB Bank, Al Rakha. It also handles visas for Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Can my reservation start from Al-Ahsa?
Yes, if you will actually fly from there and the airline sells seats on your dates. Many Al-Ahsa residents still use DMM, which is equally fine. The rule is to match the reservation to the trip you describe on the application form.
How do I pay SAR 34 in Dammam?
Online with a debit or credit card through Razorpay. Each traveller costs SAR 34 whether the trip is single or return, and multi-city routes are charged at that rate per two sectors. With no office in the province, we cannot take cash.
How long will the hold last?
No more than two weeks, and the carrier may release it sooner. Order it close to the appointment rather than the day you book the slot. If the slot moves, check the PNR and order a fresh one nearer the new date if needed.
Can I check in at DMM with it?
No. Nothing has been paid for that seat, so the DMM counter will turn you away. Purchase the real fare after your visa comes through.
