This page is for people who live in Pakistan and are applying for a visa to go abroad. That includes Pakistani passport holders and foreign nationals with Pakistani residence. Our guide for Pakistani travellers already sets out what each embassy's checklist says about flights, so we will not repeat that here. Instead we answer the earlier question: where does your file go? Which embassy or consulate is responsible for your province, which outsourced centre takes the paperwork in Islamabad, Karachi or Lahore, and how does that affect when you should order a flight reservation? Everything runs online; we have no Pakistani branch.

Why does your province matter more than your city?
Because several missions divide Pakistan by province, not by the nearest office. The clearest case is Germany. A family in Lahore might assume Lahore has a German visa desk; it does not. Punjab sits in the Islamabad embassy's area, so a Lahore resident's Schengen application for Germany goes to Islamabad, while someone in Hyderabad or Quetta applies in Karachi.[1]
Italy takes the same idea further. Its Islamabad embassy says applications may only be lodged at the BLS-Intiana centre responsible for the jurisdiction where you have permanent residence.[4] A Multan resident therefore uses an Islamabad-jurisdiction centre (Islamabad or Lahore), not Karachi, even if a cousin in Karachi offers to help. The embassy announced in September 2026 that the Multan and Faisalabad centres have closed, so check its current list before you book.
The Netherlands is the most relaxed: any of its three VFS centres takes residents of Pakistan, and the same locations accept Finnish Schengen applications too.[5]
Germany: Islamabad or Karachi, by waiting list
Germany's missions run online appointment systems, and Karachi in particular uses a waiting list because demand is high. You register, receive a waiting-list number by email, and are given an appointment later.[1] The missions are emphatic that registration is free and that anyone asking for money at that stage is a fraudster who should be reported to the police.[1] Only one registration per person is allowed; duplicates are cancelled.[1]
What does this mean for your flight document? You often do not know your appointment date until weeks after registering. Do not order a reservation when you join the list. Wait until the appointment is confirmed, then order a few days before it.
On content, note that the German tourist checklist heads its flight row "Flight reservation" yet asks for confirmed round-trip tickets in the explanation underneath.[3] The traveller guide linked above explains why we treat that wording cautiously and when a refundable fare is the safer choice.
Italy: six BLS-Intiana centres split between two offices
Italy outsources appointments and document collection to BLS-Intiana under the embassy's supervision.[4] The centres are grouped like this:
- Embassy of Italy, Islamabad: Islamabad and Lahore. The Multan and Faisalabad centres closed in September 2026.[4]
- Consulate General of Italy, Karachi: Karachi and Quetta. Residents of this area are told to consult the Karachi consulate's own website.[4]
That gives Punjab four doors into the Italian system, which is better coverage than most countries offer. The catch is the residence rule: use the centre that matches your permanent residence, and keep your address evidence consistent with it.
The Netherlands, and Finland at the same counters
The Dutch page for Pakistan is unusually practical.[5] In summary:
- Residents of Pakistan, and of Afghanistan, lodge with VFS in one of three cities: Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore.
- Finnish Schengen visas can also be lodged at those Dutch application locations.
- The window opens six months ahead of departure and closes fifteen days before it.
- Book the VFS appointment yourself; the page warns against using intermediaries.
- Make a separate appointment for each person, and every applicant attends in person, children included.
On flights, the Dutch checklist is relaxed: a booking in your name for entering and leaving Schengen will do, and paying for the ticket is unnecessary.[6] A family of four from Lahore therefore books four appointments but can show one reservation listing all four names.

$9 a head, PDF in your inbox roughly ten minutes after payment.
Belgium: drop box and longer peak waits
Belgium's embassy says tourist files are introduced through the VFS/Gerry's International drop box.[7] It also gives a rare piece of timing guidance: appointment waits are usually under two weeks, but at peak times, such as summer, they can stretch to six to eight weeks.[7] The embassy strongly recommends applying early.
So for a July trip to Brussels, start in April, but order the flight reservation only once the appointment date is fixed. An itinerary bought in April will have lapsed long before your file reaches an officer.
United States: Islamabad or Karachi only
The US mission lists two visa sections. Islamabad conducts both immigrant and nonimmigrant interviews; Karachi conducts nonimmigrant interviews only.[8] Lahore and Peshawar residents travel to one of those two cities. The mission adds that applicants should schedule in their country of residence or nationality.[8]
You do not need a flight booking for a US interview. Washington's own guidance tells visitors not to pay for flights before approval.[9] A reservation is optional and only worth having if it helps you explain fixed dates, such as a graduation ceremony.
Where does each city's resident go?
| You live in | Germany | Italy (BLS-Intiana) | Netherlands / Finland | US interview |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Islamabad / Rawalpindi | Embassy Islamabad | Islamabad centre | VFS Islamabad | Islamabad |
| Lahore | Embassy Islamabad | Lahore centre | VFS Lahore | Islamabad or Karachi |
| Faisalabad / Multan | Embassy Islamabad | Lahore or Islamabad centre (the Faisalabad and Multan centres closed in September 2026) | Nearest VFS (Lahore or Islamabad) | Islamabad or Karachi |
| Peshawar | Embassy Islamabad | Ask BLS-Intiana which centre applies | VFS Islamabad | Islamabad |
| Karachi / Hyderabad | Consulate General Karachi | Karachi centre | VFS Karachi | Karachi |
| Quetta | Consulate General Karachi | Quetta centre | Any of the three; Karachi is closest | Karachi or Islamabad |
For anything not in the table, such as the UK, Canada, France or Spain, we could not open an official page naming the Pakistani centres this month, so we have left them out rather than guess. Start from the government's own visa site for that country and follow it to the provider it names.
Which airport should the reservation start from?
Use the airport you will really leave from. The big three airports are Islamabad (ISB), Lahore (LHE) and Karachi (KHI), and Emirates' route pages show how busy the Gulf link is from each: 17 flights a week between Karachi and Dubai, and 10 a week each from Lahore and Islamabad.[10][11][12] Connections through Dubai or Doha reach most of Europe and North America in one stop.
A Faisalabad family will often drive to Lahore or Islamabad; a Hyderabad family flies from Karachi. If your file is lodged in Islamabad but you will fly from Lahore, that is fine, just keep it consistent with what you write on the form.

Worked examples
A Faisalabad textile exporter going to a trade fair in Milan. This is an illustration. He lives in Faisalabad, which falls under the Italian embassy in Islamabad, and since the Faisalabad centre closed in September 2026 the nearest BLS-Intiana centre is in Lahore.[4] He books there, gathers the fair invitation and his chamber of commerce letter, and orders a reservation Lahore–Doha–Milan and back about four days before the appointment. Because Italian lists can ask for more than a reservation, he checks the business checklist on BLS-Intiana's site before relying on a held booking.
A Hyderabad (Sindh) family visiting relatives in Rotterdam. Also an example. They pick VFS Karachi, book one appointment per person as the Dutch page requires, and take the children along because everyone must appear.[5] One reservation, Karachi–Dubai–Amsterdam with all four names, matches the Dutch wording that a booking in your name is enough.[6] The relatives' invitation and the travel insurance show the same dates.
Not Pakistani but living in Pakistan?
Expatriate engineers, diplomats' household staff, students and Afghan families all apply from Pakistan, and the rules above still apply to them, with a few twists.
The Dutch centres accept applicants who live in Pakistan or Afghanistan; anyone living elsewhere is sent to the Dutch page for their own country of residence.[5] The US mission tells applicants to schedule in their country of residence or nationality, so a foreign resident of Islamabad can normally interview there.[8] Germany keeps a separate section of its Pakistan website for Afghan applicants, so if that applies to you, read it before registering on any waiting list.[1]
Whatever your nationality, the reservation itself works the same way: names exactly as in the passport you are applying with, a route from the Pakistani airport you will use, and dates that match your residence permit's validity. If your permit expires before the return date, raise that with the mission first. No flight document can fix a residence gap.
What to have ready on appointment day
For the flight part of the file, keep it simple.
- One clean printout of the reservation, plus a copy for each applicant if the centre asks for separate sets.
- The airline name and PNR noted on your checklist, so you can answer if staff ask.
- A fresh look the evening before on the airline's Manage booking page, to confirm the hold is still live.
- Dates that agree across the application form, hotel or invitation, insurance and leave letter.
If anything has changed, for instance the airline retimed a flight, order a corrected reservation rather than hand in one that no longer matches your form.
When should you order from Pakistan?
After the appointment is fixed, and a few days before it. Holds run for 2 weeks at the outside, sometimes less, at the airline's discretion. With Germany's waiting lists and Belgium's summer backlog, the gap between registering and attending can be long, so the most common mistake is ordering far too early. If an appointment is rescheduled, order a new reservation nearer the new date.
How to order from Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore or anywhere else

Pakistan FAQ
Lahore resident: which German office takes my Schengen file?
At the German Embassy in Islamabad. Its area covers Punjab, Islamabad Capital Territory, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, while the Karachi consulate covers Sindh and Balochistan. Appointments are allocated through an online waiting list, which the missions say is free of charge.
Can I apply for an Italian visa in Karachi if I live in Punjab?
The Italian embassy says no: applications may only be lodged at the BLS-Intiana centre for the jurisdiction of your permanent residence. Punjab residents use Islamabad or Lahore; the Multan and Faisalabad centres closed in September 2026. Karachi and Quetta serve the Karachi consulate's area.
Does Lahore have a US visa section?
The US mission's visa page lists only Islamabad, which handles immigrant and nonimmigrant interviews, and Karachi, which handles nonimmigrant interviews. Lahore residents travel to one of those. No flight booking is required for the interview.
Can I apply for a Finnish visa at the Dutch centre?
Yes. The Dutch government's page for Pakistan says Finnish Schengen applications can be lodged at the Netherlands' application locations in Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. Check Finland's own requirements for the document list.
How much does a reservation cost from Pakistan?
Every traveller costs $9, single or return; for multi-city plans, each pair of sectors is charged at that rate. Cards are charged through Razorpay; expect the PDF by email around ten minutes later. Nobody from our team works from a Pakistani office.
How early should I order if I am on a waiting list?
Only after an appointment date is confirmed. Holds last two weeks or less, depending on the carrier. Ordering when you join a waiting list almost guarantees it will have lapsed by the time an officer sees it.
Can I fly out of Pakistan on this reservation?
No. It holds a seat under a PNR but no fare has been paid, so the airline will not board you and immigration will not treat it as a ticket. Buy your actual ticket once the visa is granted.
Order a reservation from anywhere in Pakistan
$9 per traveller, delivered by email, checkable on the airline's website.
Please note: you are buying a held reservation, not a ticket, and no document of ours can secure a visa. Describe it accurately and let the embassy or consulate decide.
