Karachi is the consular capital of southern Pakistan. Germany, Italy and the United States all keep consulates here, and their reach runs well beyond the city: across Sindh and, for Germany and Italy, all of Balochistan. If you live in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur or Quetta, this page explains which Karachi office handles you, how each one takes applications, and what their checklists say about flights. Which Karachi office handles your application?
It depends on the country and, for the Europeans, on your province of residence.
Germany. The Consulate General at 92-A/7, Block 5, Clifton covers the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan.[4] Anyone living in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK or Islamabad goes to the embassy in Islamabad instead.[3]
Italy. The Consulate General of Italy in Karachi does not receive visa applicants at its counter; for security reasons, everyone goes through the BLS-Intiana centres in Karachi or Quetta.[6] Applications may only be lodged at the centre covering your permanent residence.[6]
United States. The Karachi consulate's visa section handles nonimmigrant interviews only, while immigrant visas are processed in Islamabad.[1]
The Netherlands. VFS has a Karachi centre for residents of Pakistan and Afghanistan, and Finnish Schengen files can be handed in at the same Dutch locations.[7]
Canada. IRCC's list of application centres includes Karachi, with Islamabad and Lahore.[11]

Germany from Karachi: the waiting list and the ticket line
Karachi's German consulate runs a waiting list because demand outstrips capacity. You register, add details about the purpose of your trip, and get an appointment later in order of registration.[3] Incomplete registrations are not given a slot, and the consulate stresses that you need no agent and pay nothing to register.[3]
Once you are seen, a short-stay decision usually takes about fourteen calendar days, longer in peak seasons.[3]
On flights, the German tourist checklist for Pakistan is the strictest wording in this guide. The row is titled "Flight reservation", yet the instruction reads: "Please provide confirmed round trip tickets covering the duration of your stay."[5] We take that at face value. A held reservation from us may not satisfy it. If you are filing a German tourist visa from Karachi, ask the consulate what it will accept, or buy a fully refundable fare and read its cancellation terms before paying. Italy: Karachi and Quetta centres only
Italy's consulate in Karachi spells out that, for visas, you deal with BLS-Intiana, not with the consulate's own window.[6] If you live in Sindh you use Karachi; residents of Balochistan can use Quetta. Using Lahore or Islamabad because the appointment comes sooner is not allowed, since the centre must match your permanent residence.[6]
One niche detail: family members of EU citizens request appointments by certified email to the consulate, which then schedules them at the Karachi or Quetta centre, where the only charge is the €35 BLS service fee.[6] Our Italy visa guide covers the documents.

Portugal and the Czech Republic: wording from their Pakistan checklists
Two VFS checklists for Pakistan are worth quoting because they are precise.
Portugal heads item six "Flight reservation of air ticket" and wants it to cover the journey from Pakistan to Portugal and home again. If the trip includes several Schengen stops, it wants reservations for the internal legs too, whether train, flight or car rental.[9]
The Czech Republic asks for the same kind of document under "Proof of means of transport", a return or round-trip reservation from and to Pakistan.[10] It also insists, in capitals, that the arrival and departure dates on the form be IDENTICAL to those on every supporting document, transport included.[10]
Both wordings describe a reservation, which is what we supply. The Czech line is a useful reminder: if you move your dates by a day after ordering, order a corrected reservation. More on each country is in our Portugal and Czech Republic guides.

Foreign nationals living in Karachi
Karachi's port, banks and consulates employ a fair number of foreigners, and many can apply from here. The checklists set clear conditions.
- Portugal asks foreign applicants to prove they live in Pakistan lawfully, with a permit or long-stay visa that is still valid three months after the Portuguese visa would end.[9]
- The Czech checklist says applicants without a Pakistani residence permit must apply in their home country.[10]
- The Dutch page limits its Pakistani centres to people living in Pakistan or Afghanistan.[7]
- The US mission asks you to schedule in your country of residence or nationality.[1]
Say you are a Bangladeshi engineer working at a Port Qasim plant, with a work visa ending in March, and you want ten days in Lisbon in December. Portugal's three-month margin would push you past March, so renew first. On the reservation, use the spelling in your own passport, not the one on your Pakistani visa sticker if they differ.
Coming from Hyderabad, Sukkur or Quetta
Karachi's consulates draw people from a very wide area, and the logistics differ by mission.
For Germany, every resident of Sindh and Balochistan joins the Karachi waiting list, whether they live in Larkana or Gwadar.[3] You will travel to Clifton once, for the appointment itself, so plan an overnight stay if you are coming from upcountry. For Italy, Balochistan residents have the option of the Quetta centre, which saves the long road south.[6] For the Netherlands, Karachi is the only one of the three Dutch centres in the south.[7]
What this means for the reservation: keep the visa itinerary separate from the trip to your appointment. A Sukkur family whose real departure will be from KHI should show KHI on the reservation, not Sukkur, unless they will genuinely fly a domestic leg on the day. And because the journey to Karachi takes planning, order the reservation for the appointment date, not for the day you set off.
US visas from Karachi
For a visitor, student or work visa you can interview in Karachi; for an immigrant visa you go to Islamabad.[1] Interview officers do not ask for flight evidence, and the State Department recommends that you only commit to fares once your visa is approved.[2] If carrying a printout helps you explain fixed dates, such as a convocation, a reservation is harmless as long as you describe it as one. Flying out of KHI
Most Karachi residents will start their itinerary at KHI. The busiest link is to the Gulf: Emirates says it currently runs 17 flights a week between Karachi and Dubai, while noting that numbers change by season.[12] Thai Airways publishes Karachi–Bangkok fares on its own site, which suits applicants for Thailand or for trips onward into East Asia.[13]
For Europe, a single connection through Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi or Istanbul is the ordinary shape of a Karachi itinerary. Hyderabad and interior Sindh residents generally fly from KHI too. Balochistan applicants using the Quetta Italian centre should still start the reservation from whichever airport they will actually use.
Karachi examples
A DHA couple planning a fortnight in Portugal. They apply with Portugal's Pakistan checklist in hand. Four days before the appointment they order a Karachi–Dubai–Lisbon reservation with both names, plus a one-way train from Lisbon to Porto shown in their itinerary, because the checklist asks for internal legs on multi-stop trips.[9] The insurance, hotel and reservation share one set of dates.
A Quetta trader visiting a supplier in Milan. Living in Balochistan, he uses the BLS-Intiana centre in Quetta, which falls under the Karachi consulate.[6] He checks the BLS business checklist first. If it accepts a reservation, he orders one from KHI, because that is where he plans to fly from, and keeps the fair invitation and company letter dated to match.
Timing a reservation in Karachi
Wait until you have an appointment date, then order a few days before it. With Germany's waiting list, registering and attending can be weeks apart, so ordering when you register is wasted money. A hold lasts two weeks at most, often less, and the carrier sets the exact cut-off. If the appointment moves, reorder.
Schengen rules let you lodge up to six months before travel and ask for at least 15 days' notice.[14]

Mistakes to avoid in Karachi
- Paying anyone for German waiting-list registration. It is free.
- Turning up at the Italian consulate's door. Visa applicants go to BLS-Intiana.
- Dates that differ by a day between the form and the reservation, which the Czech list forbids.
- Assuming a hold meets "confirmed round trip tickets" for Germany.
- Using the reservation at KHI check-in. Only a paid ticket boards.

Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Karachi?
No. We have no premises in Karachi or elsewhere in Pakistan. I live in Hyderabad, Sindh. Do I apply for Germany in Karachi?
Yes. The German Consulate General in Karachi covers Sindh and Balochistan, and appointments are allocated from its online waiting list, which is free. Residents of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, AJK and Islamabad apply to the embassy in Islamabad instead. Register once only; duplicate registrations can be cancelled.
Will Germany accept a held reservation from a Karachi applicant?
We cannot promise that. The German tourist checklist for Pakistan asks for confirmed round-trip tickets covering your stay, which is a higher bar than a reservation. Ask the consulate what it will accept, or buy a refundable fare after reading its terms. For other countries, such as the Netherlands and Portugal, a reservation matches the published wording.
Can I walk into the Italian consulate in Clifton to apply?
No. The Consulate General of Italy in Karachi says it does not receive visa applicants at the visa counter, for security reasons. You book through BLS-Intiana and apply in Karachi or Quetta, whichever covers your permanent residence. Family members of EU citizens first request an appointment by certified email.
Can I get a US immigrant visa in Karachi?
No. According to the US mission's visa page, Karachi's visa section conducts nonimmigrant interviews only, whereas Islamabad handles immigrant as well as nonimmigrant cases. Visitors, students and temporary workers can therefore interview in Karachi. Families emigrating must go to Islamabad. Neither post asks you to bring a flight booking to the interview.
I am not Pakistani. Can I apply for a Schengen visa in Karachi?
Often, if you legally reside in Pakistan. Portugal wants proof of legal residence valid three months beyond the visa, the Czech list sends people without a Pakistani residence permit back to their home country, and the Dutch centres serve residents of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Your reservation should use your own passport's spelling.
How long will the reservation last?
A fortnight is the ceiling, and the carrier picks the real expiry, which on some fares comes sooner. Place the order a few days before your appointment, retrieve the booking online on the eve of submission, and buy a fresh one if the appointment date changes.

One honest note: a held booking is not a purchased ticket and does not decide your visa. Where a checklist asks for confirmed tickets, take that seriously, and leave the decision to the consulate.
