If you hold a British passport, you can skip most of this: British citizens can visit the Schengen area visa-free for short trips within the 90/180-day limit.[4] This page is for the many Londoners who live here on a Skilled Worker, Graduate, Student or family visa, or with settled status, and travel on an Indian, Nigerian, Pakistani, Ghanaian, Filipino, Chinese or other passport that still needs a Schengen or US visa. For you, the UK immigration status itself becomes part of the application, and London is where most of the visa centres are. Below: who takes your file, what each mission says about flights, which London airports fit a believable itinerary, and how to order a reservation for £7. We have no London office; everything happens online.

Does your UK immigration status let you apply in London?
Usually yes, as long as you genuinely live here and your permission runs long enough.
Germany says that, as a rule, it accepts applications only from UK residents, including foreign residents with a UK residence permit, a valid share code or UKVI account, or a UK short-term study visa.[2] Its notes on visa labels add that any residence permit required in your country of residence must outlast the visa by at least one month.[3]
Italy sets a longer margin. Passports, travel documents and residence cards or share codes must stay valid for at least three months beyond the last day of your Schengen trip. It also says holders of a UK visit visa cannot apply through it, and nor can people living outside its district of England, Wales, the Isle of Man, the Isle of Wight, the Channel Islands and some overseas territories.[5]
The Netherlands accepts applications at its UK centres only from people who live in the UK.[6]
A worked example helps. Say your Graduate visa ends on 31 January and you want a week in Rome from 20 to 27 December. Italy wants your status valid until at least 27 March, so on its wording you would not qualify until your new permission is granted. Germany's one-month margin would be easier to meet for the same dates, which is worth knowing before you plan a multi-country route.
What if you live in outer London or beyond?
Your address decides more than your commute. The Netherlands runs VFS centres in Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh as well as London, so someone in Watford or Reading still has a choice.[6] Germany's TLScontact has a Manchester centre alongside London, while anyone in Scotland goes through Edinburgh.[1] Spain's BLS site sorts applicants by county and refuses files from outside the consulate's area.[8] Italy's London consulate covers England and Wales among other places, with VFS in London, Manchester and Edinburgh listed on its page.[5]
If you have recently moved, for instance from Glasgow to Hackney for a new job, update your address on your UK records and apply from where you now live. A reservation should start from the airport nearest that address, not the old one.
Do UK residents need a transit visa for Italian airports?
Some no longer do. The Italian consulate in London says that since 28 June 2024, holders of a valid UK Biometric Residence Permit card can connect through Italian airports without a separate airport transit visa, and that the exemption is limited to BRP card holders.[5] It also points out that a valid UK visa on its own does not exempt you.[5]
This matters when you are routing a trip home to Lagos, Accra or Karachi through Rome. If you hold a BRP card that is still valid, the connection may not need a separate visa; if your status is held only digitally, check with the consulate before you book, because the page names the card specifically.
What do London's missions say about flights?
| Country | Where a London resident applies | Official wording on travel | Our view |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | TLScontact London or Manchester[1] | Strongly recommends making no travel arrangements or financial commitments until the visa is approved[2] | A held reservation fits that advice better than a bought fare |
| Netherlands | VFS London and other UK centres[6] | Wants travel plans in your name with the line "You do not need a paid travel ticket."[7] | Reservation |
| Spain | BLS, by county[8] | Says every checklist document is mandatory, even where an employer or travel company arranges the flights[9] | Read the BLS checklist for the exact flight item |
| Italy | VFS London[5] | Flight line not confirmed by us in October 2026 | Use the checklist VFS gives you |
| USA | US Embassy London[10] | Don't buy tickets before you have the visa[11] | Not needed |
Germany's advice is the one we would underline. It does not want you spending money on travel before a decision.[2] Where any checklist you receive does insist on travel that is confirmed or already paid, though, believe it over us, and choose a refundable fare.
TLS or VFS appointment coming up?
£7 per traveller, emailed in about 10 minutes, checkable with the airline.
Why German appointments in London need planning
From 1 June 2026, the German Embassy introduced waiting lists through TLScontact in London and Manchester for some short-stay visa categories, because demand for appointments was exceeding the visa section's capacity.[4] The embassy says the aim is fair access and protection from expensive appointment-booking agencies.[4]
What that means for flights: your appointment date may be weeks after you first register, and you will not know it in advance. Don't order a reservation when you join the list. Order it once the slot is confirmed and only a few days remain. Scotland-based readers should note that the Consulate General in Edinburgh and the TLScontact centre there handle Scottish residents instead.[1]
Can you apply for a US visa in London as a non-British resident?
Yes, because London is your country of residence. The US Embassy's visa page asks nonimmigrant applicants to interview where they live or in the country whose passport they hold, and notes that fees cannot be refunded or transferred.[10] A Nigerian doctor working for the NHS in Lewisham would normally interview in London, not Lagos.
No flight booking is needed. The State Department tells visitors not to pay for flights while the visa is still pending.[11] If having an itinerary on paper helps you answer questions about dates, a reservation is harmless, but it is optional.
Which London airport should the reservation use?
The one you would really fly from. London has several airports, and each suits different trips.
- Heathrow is run by Heathrow Airport Holdings, which describes it as Britain's aviation hub.[12] It is the natural start for long-haul flights and for full-service European carriers.
- Gatwick describes itself as the UK's second largest airport.[13] It works well for leisure routes to southern Europe.
- Stansted promotes short breaks to places such as Berlin, Amsterdam, Naples, Palma and Alicante on its home page.[14]
In our view, a short Schengen trip from London on a mainstream carrier reads as perfectly ordinary. A Heathrow to Frankfurt return, or Gatwick to Rome, is what you would expect from someone living in the city. What does not help is an itinerary starting in Delhi or Lagos when you live in Croydon.

What if you are inviting family to London instead?
Then your relatives apply for a UK visit visa in their own country, not you. The UK's guidance on supporting documents puts flight bookings, unless the person is transiting, in a section of documents that "are less useful as evidence in visit applications".[15] Your invitation letter, proof of your own status and address, and evidence of who pays matter far more.
So if your parents in Hyderabad are applying to visit you in Wembley, we would usually tell them not to buy anything, and to skip a reservation unless their visa centre's local checklist asks for one. That saves £7 per person and keeps the file focused.
Example: an Indian software engineer in Canary Wharf going to Spain
Consider a Skilled Worker visa holder living in Canary Wharf who wants ten days in Barcelona and Madrid. Spain's centres are run by BLS International, and the site asks you to choose your county of residence first; it warns that an application outside your consular jurisdiction will not be accepted.[8] He picks Greater London.
BLS's tourist page stresses that every document on its checklist is mandatory, and lists a service charge of £14.85 per application on top of the visa fee.[9] He reads the checklist's flight item himself. If it asks for a reservation, we would hold Heathrow to Barcelona and Madrid to Heathrow, ordered about four days before the appointment, with hotel and insurance dates to match. If it asks for something paid, he buys a flexible fare.
Example: a Ghanaian nurse in Lewisham visiting Berlin
A nurse from Ghana with settled status, living in Lewisham, wants to visit a cousin in Berlin. She joins TLScontact's waiting list in London.[4] Weeks later she is offered a slot on a Tuesday.
Following the German FAQ, she has not bought any travel.[2] On the Friday before, she orders a £7 reservation, Gatwick or Heathrow to Berlin and back, in line with her annual leave. Her residence status is confirmed by her share code, and her passport has more than three months left after the trip. Everything in the folder points to the same eight days.
How do you order from London?
- Check your UK status against your destination's validity rule.
- Book or join the queue for TLS, VFS or BLS, and wait for a firm date.
- Enter the trip on our booking page, using names exactly as in each passport.
- Pay £7 per passenger by card through Razorpay; UPI and netbanking work if you have an Indian bank account.
- Find the PDF in your email, usually about 10 minutes later.
- Check the PNR by entering it with your surname on the carrier's website, as our verification guide explains.
Order progress is on the tracking page, and non-sterling prices sit on our pricing list.
How far ahead should a Londoner book?
Close to the appointment. The airline holds the booking for up to 2 weeks, and it decides the exact length, which may be shorter. With waiting lists and rescheduled slots common in London, we would order no earlier than five days before you submit. Brussels lets you file as early as six months ahead, with a cut-off 15 days before you go,[16] so there is no reason to rush the flight part.
What goes in your folder
- The printed reservation, with every applicant's name.
- Proof of UK status: share code details or residence document, as your mission asks.
- Employer's letter or university letter confirming leave or term dates.
- Insurance and hotels for the same dates as the flights.
Look the booking up on the airline's site the evening before. Schedules move, and you would rather find out at home than in a queue on Pocock Street.
Things to avoid
- Applying for Italy on a UK visit visa, which the consulate says is not eligible.
- Letting your UK permission run too close to the end of the trip.
- Buying non-refundable flights while Germany's own advice says to wait.
- Using an appointment agent that charges for slots; the German Embassy introduced its waiting list partly to stop this.
- Calling a reservation a ticket on any form.
London FAQ
Where is your London office?
We don't have one. DummyTicketPrice is a purely online service, with no office or agent in London or anywhere in the UK. You order on the website, pay through Razorpay, and get the reservation PDF by email, normally within about 10 minutes. A home printer or a local library will do for the hard copy.
How much is it in pounds?
£7 per passenger for either a single or a return. A couple travelling together pays £14. Trips with several separate flights are priced per pair of legs, and hotel reservations are a separate charge per stay for each traveller. The full list of currencies is on our price page.
I'm British. Do I need any of this?
Not for short Schengen holidays, because British citizens do not need a visa for them. You might still want a reservation for proof of onward travel on a one-way trip elsewhere, but for a European holiday on a British passport there is no visa file to prepare.
Can I apply to Italy from London on a UK visitor visa?
No, according to the Italian Consulate General in London. It says holders of a UK C-visit visa are not eligible to apply there, and applicants must be resident in its district. Visitors normally need to apply in their own country of residence. Check the consulate's page if your situation is unusual.
Which German centre covers London?
TLScontact in London, with Manchester as the other English option; both serve residents of Wales, Northern Ireland and most of England on behalf of the German Embassy. Scottish residents use the Consulate General and TLScontact in Edinburgh. Some short-stay categories now use a waiting list, so register early and order flights late.
Can I pay with a UK debit card?
Our checkout is run by Razorpay, which takes debit and credit cards. Readers with an Indian bank account can also pay by UPI or netbanking. We do not accept cash or bank transfers, since there is no office to receive them.
Can I fly from Heathrow on the reservation?
No. The seat is held under a real airline reference, but no fare is paid, so the airline will not let you check in. Buy a proper ticket after the visa is granted, for dates that fit inside it. You are free to use a different airline or airport from the reservation.
Order your London reservation
£7 a passenger, online only, ready to check on the airline's website.
One honest caveat: a reservation cannot persuade a consulate on its own. Call it a reservation, line it up with your leave and status documents, and let the mission's checklist overrule anything you read here.
The home page gives a short overview of what we do. Gulf guides for readers who moved from there: Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. UK residents by background: UK-based Indians, Nigerian, Ghanaian and Pakistani travellers, plus Indian students. Destinations: Schengen, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands and USA. Inviting relatives? Read UK visit visa flights. Airlines: British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Wider reading: how visa flight reservations work, what each country asks for, onward travel and hotel reservations for visa files.
