None of the official pages we checked for Germany, Italy, the Netherlands or the UK lists a visa centre in Sharjah, so most applications start with a drive down to Dubai. That is the main practical fact for anyone living in Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Muwaileh or Al Khan. The other is that Sharjah counts among the Northern Emirates, a grouping several missions use to decide who goes where. Lots of Sharjah residents are Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino or Egyptian, many with families on their sponsorship. Below we go through which centres take Sharjah applicants, what the checklists say about flights, what actually departs from Sharjah International, and how to order a reservation for AED 33. We are an online service only, with no office in Sharjah.
Sharjah in one table
| Question | Answer (last checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Nearest airport | Sharjah International (SHJ); flights listed on its arrivals board are mostly Air Arabia[9] |
| Germany (Schengen) | "Dubai and the Northern Emirates" residents apply at VFS Global Dubai[1] |
| Italy | Northern Emirates residents are referred to the Consulate General in Dubai, via VFS Global Dubai[4] |
| Netherlands | VFS Global Dubai or Abu Dhabi[7] |
| United Kingdom | VFS centre at Wafi Mall, Dubai[5] |
| United States | No routine visa processing in the UAE for now[12] |
| Price | AED 33 per traveller |
Where does a Sharjah resident apply?
In Dubai, for the main European destinations and the UK.
The German missions in the UAE say applicants "residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates" submit at VFS Global in Dubai, and the Consulate General in Dubai decides every UAE file.[1] The Italian Embassy in Abu Dhabi uses almost the same phrase: if you live in Dubai or a Northern Emirate, your Italian file belongs with its Dubai consulate, handled at VFS Global Dubai.[4] Netherlands Worldwide lets UAE residents choose between its VFS centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.[7] For the UK, GOV.UK lists the VFS centre in Wafi Mall, Umm Hurair.[5]
The same logic covers neighbours in Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al Khaimah. If your appointment is early in the morning, leave generous time for the Sharjah to Dubai commute, because a missed slot can mean booking all over again.
America is the outlier. The US mission states that routine visa processing is not currently available anywhere in the UAE and asks nonimmigrant applicants to book in their country of residence or nationality.[12] For most Sharjah expats, that points to a US post in their passport country, and no flight booking is needed for it.
Applying as a family on one sponsor's visa
A lot of Sharjah households have one working sponsor and a spouse and children on that sponsorship. The German tourism checklist asks each applicant for a valid UAE residence permit that remains valid for at least three months after the visa they request expires.[2] In a family, that check has to pass for everyone. Children's residence visas are sometimes renewed on a different cycle from the parents', so look at each one separately.
That checklist also asks for the NOL, an employer or sponsor letter stating leave dates.[2] For dependants, that letter usually comes from the working parent's employer, along with proof of the family relationship. Put the whole family on one reservation with one PNR, so the consulate sees a single, coherent trip.
Flight wording on the checklists Sharjah residents use
| Destination | Centre | What the official page says about flights | Practical advice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany, tourism | VFS Dubai[1] | Lists a "flight reservation" in the travel itinerary section[2] | Held reservation is the usual choice |
| Germany, visiting family or friends | VFS Dubai[1] | Item 6, "Flight Reservation", beside a formal obligation letter from the host[3] | Reservation plus the host's paperwork |
| Netherlands | VFS Dubai or Abu Dhabi[7] | Accepts travel plans in the applicant's name and says no paid ticket is required[8] | Reservation is enough on this wording |
| Italy | Consulate General Dubai, VFS Dubai[4] | The embassy links a checklist per category; we could not read its flight item in October 2026 | Follow your downloaded list |
| UK, visit | VFS Wafi Mall[5] | Flight bookings are treated as less useful evidence[6] | Generally skip |
| UK, transit | VFS Wafi Mall[5] | Onward journey "confirmed and is within 48 hours of arrival"[6] | A held reservation may not meet "confirmed"; buy a real ticket |
The UK transit row is the exception worth noticing. If you are passing through Britain on the way to Canada or the US and need a transit visa, the guidance talks about an onward journey that has been confirmed. We would not rely on a held reservation there.
Heading to VFS Dubai from Sharjah?
Order for AED 33 a person tonight and print it before the drive.
Visiting more than one Schengen country from Sharjah?
Your application belongs with the country hosting the longest stay, or, if the nights are equal, the one you enter first. Netherlands Worldwide reminds UAE applicants to check which Schengen country they should apply to when a trip covers more than one.[7] The reservation then has to tell the same story as your application: arrival into the main country or the first one, and departure from wherever you really leave.
An open-jaw booking, flying into Amsterdam and home from Brussels for example, is completely normal and costs the same AED 33 per person if it is priced as one pair of legs. Where the route has more than two flights, such as Dubai to Paris, Paris to Rome and Rome to Dubai, we price it per pair of legs, so check the total before paying.
One practical point for Sharjah families. Plan the internal European legs by train or bus where that is natural, and leave them off the flight reservation. Consulates are interested in how you enter and leave the Schengen area; they do not need every intercity hop priced out.
What does the UK want from a Sharjah resident?
The UK's visitor guidance asks applicants who are not nationals of the country where they apply to show confirmation of legal residence there.[6] For you that is the residence visa and Emirates ID, submitted at the Wafi Mall centre in Dubai.[5] The same guide counts flight bookings among the weaker kinds of evidence for a visit,[6] so the money is better spent getting bank statements and the salary certificate in order.
Should your reservation start at Sharjah or Dubai?
Whichever you would genuinely use. On 3 October 2026 the arrivals list on Sharjah Airport's website was dominated by Air Arabia, with Air India Express, Qatar Airways, SalamAir and Iraqi Airways also appearing.[9] Air Arabia's own site offers home check-in for Sharjah, which tells you how central the airport is to its network.[10]
For a European trip, Sharjah residents often choose Dubai instead, because that is where Emirates operates from Terminal 3 and where European carriers such as Lufthansa, KLM, Air France and British Airways are listed at Terminal 1.[11] Both are normal. A reservation from SHJ on Air Arabia, or from DXB on Emirates, will look like what it is: a trip from where you live. What we would avoid is an itinerary that starts in your home country when you have no plan to fly from there.

Example: a Bangladeshi resident visiting his brother in Hamburg
Consider a supervisor living in Al Nahda whose brother lives in Hamburg and has invited him for three weeks. Because the purpose is a family visit, he uses Germany's visit checklist and submits at VFS Dubai.[1][3]
The heavier part of that file is the brother's formal obligation letter, issued in Germany, which the checklist asks for as an original no older than six months.[3] The flight reservation is the easy part. We would hold Dubai to Hamburg with one connection, ordered three days before his appointment, with a return date that sits inside both his employer's leave and the period the obligation letter covers.
Example: a Muwaileh family choosing the Netherlands
A Filipino couple in Muwaileh with a seven-year-old want a spring holiday in the Netherlands and Belgium, spending most nights in Amsterdam. Because the Netherlands is the main destination, they apply to the Dutch, through VFS in Dubai.[7]
According to the Dutch tourism list, each traveller needs a booking in their own name showing how they arrive in and leave Schengen; buying the fare is unnecessary.[8] One PNR holds all three passengers, Dubai to Amsterdam and back from Brussels, matching the hotel bookings. When the visas arrive, they shop around for actual fares, maybe from Sharjah if the price is right.
How to order from Sharjah
- Check each family member's residence visa date against your destination's rule.
- Read the flight line on the checklist for your visa purpose.
- Complete our booking form, choosing SHJ or DXB as you would really fly.
- Pay AED 33 for each passenger by card through Razorpay; UPI and netbanking also work with an Indian bank account.
- Open the email with the PDF, usually around 10 minutes after paying.
- Pull the booking up online with the PNR plus surname; our checking guide walks through it.
Order status is on the tracking page. Currency rates for other countries sit on the price list.
When to order before a Dubai appointment
Two to four days before is about right. Holds last no more than 2 weeks, and the airline, not us, sets the exact time, which can be shorter. Sharjah residents sometimes book far ahead because the appointment feels like a big trip. Resist that. Buy it in the final days, and if VFS reschedules you, buy another to suit the new slot.
Remember the Schengen calendar too. Brussels sets a window: lodge no sooner than six months before departure, and no later than 15 days before.[13] That six-month window is about the visa, not the reservation, which should still be ordered in the last few days.
What to put in your folder
- Reservation printout naming every family member travelling.
- Residence visa and Emirates ID copies for each applicant, including children.
- Sponsor's NOL and relationship proof for dependants.
- Host's obligation letter for a German family visit.
Check the booking on the airline's website before you leave Sharjah in the morning. If something has changed overnight, message us before you reach the centre.
Common errors we see from Sharjah
- Assuming Abu Dhabi centres are open to you for Germany or Italy.
- Forgetting one child's residence visa expires sooner than the parents'.
- Using a held reservation for a UK transit visa, where the guidance mentions a confirmed onward journey.
- Return dates beyond the host's obligation letter or the employer's leave.
- Any edited or invented booking. We do not make them, and you should never submit one.
Sharjah FAQ
Can I visit you in Sharjah to pay in cash?
No. We do not have premises in Sharjah or elsewhere in the Emirates, and every order is handled on the website. Payment runs through Razorpay by card, or by UPI and netbanking for anyone with an Indian bank account. The reservation reaches your inbox as a PDF, usually inside about 10 minutes.
Which German visa centre serves Sharjah?
VFS Global in Dubai. The German missions in the UAE send residents of Dubai and the Northern Emirates there, and Sharjah falls in that group. People in the capital or Al Ain have their own centre in Abu Dhabi. All applications lodged anywhere in the UAE are decided by the German Consulate General in Dubai.
Is a reservation from Sharjah Airport acceptable?
A reservation from SHJ is as normal as one from DXB if that is how you intend to travel. Consulates are interested in whether your plans are coherent, not in which UAE airport you choose. Make sure the departure city on the reservation matches your cover letter and insurance, and that the dates sit within your leave.
How much do I pay for a family of five?
Our fee is AED 33 per passenger, single or return, so five people come to AED 165. If the trip has several separate flights, such as Dubai to Paris then Rome to Dubai, pricing is per pair of legs. Hotel reservations, if you need them, are charged per stay for each traveller.
I need a UK transit visa. Will your reservation do?
Probably not. The GOV.UK guidance for transit talks about an outward journey from the UK that has been confirmed and departs within 48 hours of arrival. A held booking is a reservation, not a confirmed paid journey, so we would advise buying a proper ticket, ideally refundable, for a transit application.
For how many days will the airline keep my seat held?
Two weeks at the longest; the carrier sets the real expiry booking by booking. For that reason we suggest ordering a few days before your VFS appointment, not when you first start collecting documents. If your appointment is rescheduled, order a fresh one for the new date.
Can I use the reservation to board an Air Arabia flight?
No. It holds a seat with a real booking reference, but no fare has been paid, so you cannot check in on it. After your visa is granted, buy a ticket on Air Arabia or any airline that suits you, for dates inside the visa.
Do my children need to be on the same reservation?
Yes, every family member who is applying should appear on the itinerary, and putting everyone on one PNR is the tidiest way to do it. Use each child's name exactly as printed in their passport, including middle names. Our fee is per passenger, so count every child when you work out the total before paying.

AED 33 per traveller, delivered online, checkable with the airline.
A fair warning: a reservation supports your file but cannot make the decision for you. Describe it accurately, keep it aligned with your leave and invitation letters, and treat the mission's checklist as the final word.
