Living in the capital changes a few things compared with Dubai. Several missions route Abu Dhabi and Al Ain residents to separate visa centres, and Italy goes further by looking at which emirate issued your residence visa rather than where you happen to sleep. Many of the people who ask us about this are expat professionals from India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Egypt or Nigeria, often working for government entities, hospitals, oil and gas firms or schools in the city. This page explains which centres take your file, how each checklist words the flight item, what flies out of Zayed International, and how a reservation costing AED 33 fits in. We run entirely online and have no office in Abu Dhabi or anywhere else in the UAE.
Abu Dhabi key facts

| Germany (Schengen) | Residents of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain submit at VFS Global Abu Dhabi; decisions come from the Consulate General in Dubai[1] |
| Italy | BLS International, Nation Towers Mall, for holders of a UAE visa issued by the Government of Abu Dhabi[3] |
| Netherlands and Luxembourg | VFS Global in Abu Dhabi or Dubai[4] |
| United Kingdom | VFS centre at The Mall, World Trade Centre, Airport Road[6] |

Where do Abu Dhabi residents submit a visa application?
Germany: at the VFS Global Germany centre in Abu Dhabi. The German missions say applicants living in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain should submit there, while Dubai and Northern Emirates residents go to Dubai. All UAE files end up with the German Consulate General in Dubai for a decision, not with the embassy in the capital.[1]
Italy: the Italian Embassy uses BLS International for its visa centre at Nation Towers Mall. Only applicants holding a valid UAE visa issued by the Government of Abu Dhabi, covering the Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra regions, may apply there for a Schengen tourist or business visa. Tourist visas need an appointment booked on the BLS portal.[3]
Netherlands: VFS Global in Abu Dhabi or Dubai, according to Netherlands Worldwide. The same centres take applications for Luxembourg.[4]
United Kingdom: GOV.UK lists the VFS centre on Level B2 of The Mall at the World Trade Centre, on Airport Road.[6]
The Italian rule deserves a second look. Suppose you moved from Dubai to Khalifa City last year but your residence visa is still a Dubai one, because your employer is registered there. On the embassy's wording, you are not one of the applicants it accepts, and it points Dubai and Northern Emirates residents to the Consulate General in Dubai.[3] Sort that out before you pay for anything.
What residence and employer papers do the checklists want?
Germany's tourism list asks for a valid UAE residence permit that lasts at least three months beyond the expiry of the visa you are requesting.[2] It also expects an NOL, the employer or sponsor letter, giving the company's contact details, your position, start date, salary and the period of your leave.[2]
Why does that matter for flights? Because the leave period in the NOL is the frame your reservation has to fit inside. If HR writes leave from 12 to 26 December, your outbound and return should sit within those dates, with a sensible margin for the trip home from the airport. We often suggest people get the NOL first and order the reservation afterwards, so nobody has to rewrite anything.
For the UK, the visitor guidance asks for confirmation of legal residence when you apply outside your own country.[7] Bring the residence visa and Emirates ID.
How do the checklists word the flight item?
| Mission | Centre for an Abu Dhabi resident | Flight wording | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | VFS Abu Dhabi[1] | "flight reservation", listed under the travel itinerary[2] | Reservation that matches the NOL leave |
| Netherlands | VFS Abu Dhabi or Dubai[4] | Booking in the applicant's name, or some other proof of travel plans; payment not required[5] | Reservation in your name |
| Italy | BLS, Nation Towers Mall[3] | The embassy links category checklists; we could not confirm the flight line in October 2026 | Go by the checklist you download |
| UK | VFS, World Trade Centre Mall[6] | Counted among less useful evidence unless you are transiting[7] | Normally not worth adding |
| USA | Routine processing suspended in the UAE[8] | Advice is to hold off buying tickets until the visa is granted[9] | Nothing needed |
Where official wording goes beyond "reservation" and asks for something confirmed or paid, a held booking from us might not be enough. Buy a refundable fare in that case and keep the cancellation terms with your papers.

Pay AED 33 a passenger and have the reservation PDF in about 10 minutes.
How does processing time affect your travel dates?
Because every German file from the UAE is decided in Dubai, an Abu Dhabi application travels to another emirate and back. The mission puts processing at up to 15 days.[1] The EU's general rule is that you lodge at least 15 days before departure and no earlier than six months ahead.[12]
Put those two facts together and a sensible plan emerges. Choose travel dates at least three weeks after your appointment, so a normal processing time leaves a margin for the passport's return. Ask HR for an NOL that covers those dates. Our reservation then comes last, ordered close to submission with identical dates. If you book a holiday that starts ten days after submission, you are relying on a fast decision, and your reservation, hotel and leave all become hostages to it.
Dutch guidance follows the same window, with a six-month earliest date and a 15-day latest one.[4] Applicants in the capital can choose the Abu Dhabi centre and avoid the drive to Dubai.
What about a US visa while living in Abu Dhabi?
For now, routine cases cannot be handled in the UAE. The embassy's visa page says that while it and the Dubai consulate are open, "routine visa processing is not available in the United Arab Emirates at this time".[8] It directs nonimmigrant applicants to schedule interviews in their country of residence or nationality.[8]
For most expats that means applying in the country whose passport they hold. An Egyptian engineer in Mussafah would look at Cairo; a Pakistani doctor at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City would look at Islamabad or Karachi. Revisit the embassy page before choosing, since this could change. As for flights: the State Department's page says to wait for the visa before you commit to flights,[9] so a US file does not need one from us.
What flies from Zayed International?
Zayed International is the renamed Abu Dhabi airport. It kept the code AUH and serves as Etihad's home, with Terminal A as the airline's terminal.[10] Air Arabia also has a presence in the capital; its website offers home check-in in Abu Dhabi as well as Sharjah.[11]
For a Schengen or UK reservation, an Etihad flight out of AUH is usually the cleanest choice, because it starts where you live. Some Abu Dhabi residents prefer to drive to Dubai for an Emirates or KLM departure, and that is fine as long as your reservation, cover letter and insurance all reflect the same plan. What looks odd is a reservation starting in a city you have no reason to fly from.

Example: a teacher on Reem Island going to Rome
An Indian teacher living on Reem Island, with a residence visa issued in Abu Dhabi, plans a week in Rome over the spring break. She qualifies for the BLS centre at Nation Towers Mall, and she books her tourist appointment on the BLS portal as the embassy instructs.[3]
She downloads the tourist checklist from the embassy page and reads its travel item herself rather than relying on a friend's old list. If it asks for a flight reservation, we would hold an Etihad AUH to Rome return for her about four days before the appointment. If it asks for anything stronger, she buys a refundable fare instead. Either way, her school's leave letter and her hotel nights line up with the flights.
Example: an Al Ain couple visiting a daughter in Berlin
A Pakistani couple living in Al Ain want to visit their daughter, who studies in Berlin. They count as Abu Dhabi region residents for the German missions, so they submit at VFS Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai consulate decides.[1]
Their reservation is a single PNR with both names, Abu Dhabi to Berlin via a connection and back three weeks later. The husband's NOL from his employer gives the leave dates; the wife's papers show she is sponsored by him. The checklists also want a medical policy covering a minimum of 30,000 euros across all Schengen states,[2] and the policy dates mirror the flights.
Ordering from Abu Dhabi in six steps
- Confirm your centre, remembering Italy's rule about the emirate that issued your visa.
- Get the employer's NOL so you know the exact leave dates.
- Enter the route and names on our booking page, copied from the passport.
- Pay AED 33 per traveller through Razorpay with a card, or with UPI or netbanking if you bank in India.
- Collect the PDF from your email about 10 minutes later.
- Check the PNR on Etihad's or the relevant airline's Manage booking page; our step-by-step check helps.
You can follow any order on the tracking page, and compare currencies on the pricing page.
When should you order it?
Late. Holds survive a fortnight at the outside, and the airline sets the precise length, which can be shorter on some fares. For an appointment at VFS or BLS in Abu Dhabi, we would order three to five days beforehand. If the consulate takes longer than planned and asks you to update your travel details, a new reservation costs another AED 33 and is quicker than arguing about an expired one.
What to bring on appointment day
- Printed reservation listing every traveller on the application.
- Residence visa and Emirates ID copies, valid long enough for Germany's three-month rule.
- NOL or leave letter whose dates cover the flights.
- Insurance and accommodation for exactly the same period.
Look the PNR up on the airline's site the night before. If a schedule change has moved a flight, you can still get a corrected reservation before the morning.
Pitfalls for capital residents
- Using BLS Abu Dhabi for Italy while holding a Dubai-issued residence visa.
- Flights outside the NOL leave window.
- Booking the appointment before renewing a residence visa close to expiry.
- Reservations starting from your home country when you will really fly from AUH.
- Treating a held booking as proof of payment. It isn't, and you should never describe it that way.
Abu Dhabi FAQ
Is there a DummyTicketPrice counter in Abu Dhabi?
No, there is no counter, kiosk or partner agent in the capital. The whole process happens on our website: you enter the route and names, pay by card, UPI or netbanking through Razorpay, and the PDF lands in your mailbox, typically within ten minutes or so, ready to print wherever is convenient.
I live in Al Ain. Do I go to Abu Dhabi or Dubai for Germany?
Abu Dhabi. The German missions group Al Ain residents with Abu Dhabi, so you submit at the VFS Global Germany centre in the capital. Your file then goes to the German Consulate General in Dubai, which decides all Schengen applications lodged in the UAE. Processing can take up to 15 days according to the mission.
My visa was issued in Dubai but I live in Abu Dhabi. Where do I apply for Italy?
The Italian Embassy's page says only holders of a UAE visa issued by the Government of Abu Dhabi may use its BLS centre, and it directs Dubai and Northern Emirates residents to the Consulate General in Dubai. With a Dubai-issued visa, contact the Dubai consulate or check with the embassy before you book.
What does a reservation cost in Abu Dhabi?
AED 33 per person for either a one-way or a return itinerary. Two parents and a child pay AED 99. Each pair of legs on a multi-stop route is charged separately, and hotel reservations cost extra, charged per stay for each traveller. Payment goes through Razorpay.
Will the airline confirm my booking if the consulate checks?
The reservation sits on the airline's system under a real PNR, so it can be retrieved on the carrier's Manage booking page with the surname while the hold lasts. That is why timing matters: if the airline has already released the hold, a later lookup will fail. Order close to the appointment.
Can I fly with it from AUH?
No. A reservation reserves a seat but nothing has been paid for it, so you cannot check in on it. Once your visa is issued, buy a real ticket. Etihad from AUH is a natural choice, but any airline and date that fits your visa is fine.
Should a UK visitor application from Abu Dhabi include flights?
Generally no. The UK's own guidance lists flight bookings among documents it considers less useful, except for transit applications. Concentrate on bank statements, the employer's letter and your residence status. If you do include one, call it a reservation, and make sure its dates fit your leave.
Can I apply for Luxembourg in Abu Dhabi?
Netherlands Worldwide says its UAE visa application locations, which include VFS Global in Abu Dhabi, also accept Schengen applications for Luxembourg. It adds that you should check Luxembourg's own visa requirements with that country's embassy. The Dutch tourism checklist, which applies to its own files, says a paid ticket is not required.
Order before your Abu Dhabi appointment
AED 33 per person, retrievable on the airline's site, delivered in minutes.
Worth remembering: no flight document wins a visa on its own. The consulate or embassy weighs the whole file and decides. Present the reservation for what it is and keep every date consistent.
