Port Harcourt runs on oil, gas and the businesses around them, and its residents travel for work as often as for family. Yet when it comes to visas, the Garden City has few desks of its own. Rivers State sits inside the Lagos consular area for Germany, outside the Abuja list for the Netherlands, and most Schengen countries take files only in Lagos or Abuja. The exception is the UK, whose visa partner runs a premium centre in town. Below we set out where a Port Harcourt resident actually files, what each official list says about flights, how PHC connects to the world, and what our reservation is good for. We are an internet-only service with no Port Harcourt branch.

Where does a Port Harcourt resident file a visa?
The short answer: the UK can be done at home; almost everything else means Lagos, occasionally Abuja.
The German Consulate General in Lagos lists Rivers among its 17 southern states, together with neighbours such as Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Abia and Imo.[4] The Netherlands sends only the FCT and 18 northern and central states to Abuja, so Rivers residents use the French TLScontact centre in Lagos.[7] Italy accepts files at TLScontact in either Lagos or Abuja, with the decision taken at its Lagos consulate.[11] Sweden's VFS centres are likewise in Lagos and Abuja.[9]
Lagos is therefore the default for Schengen. Most people fly PHC to LOS the day before, and that domestic hop belongs in your own diary, not in the visa reservation.
Can you do a UK visa without leaving Port Harcourt?
Often, yes. Since May 2025 there has been a VFS premium centre for UK applicants in Hall 1, First Floor, Hotel Presidential, with hours of 8 am to 5 pm.[2] The release spoke of serving the summer season, and premium centres carry an extra fee, so check the VFS booking site for current Port Harcourt dates before counting on it. The release also mentions add-ons such as courier return of documents and a service letting you keep your passport while the application is processed.[2]
The UK minister quoted in that release described the centres as a convenience for people in and around Rivers State.[2] If no slot is open, the standard centres in Abuja, Ikeja and Victoria Island remain.[2]
Should you include a reservation for a UK visit? We would not. The Home Office's documents guide places flight bookings, other than for transit, in the group of items that add nothing to a visitor's case.[3] Payslips, statements, your employer's letter and the reason you will return to Port Harcourt matter far more.
What does Germany's business list say about flights?
A lot of Port Harcourt travel to Germany is for work: suppliers, training, equipment inspections and trade fairs. Germany's business and trade fair sorting list, dated June 2026, puts "Flight reservation/booking" at item 9, which a held reservation satisfies.[6]
The rest of that list is what decides most business files. Item 13 asks for an invitation from the German company, proof of any conference, training or previous dealings, the Nigerian company's bank statements for the last three months, and the employer's confirmation of the trip.[6] Trade fair exhibitors add their registration and proof of fee payment; visitors add their fair ticket.[6] Non-Nigerians include a copy of their Nigerian residence permit at item 5.[6]
Timing rules come from the German Schengen page: lodge the file no later than 15 calendar days ahead of departure and no sooner than six months out, and book the appointment yourself rather than through a paid agent.[5] Our Lagos guide covers the visitor list for family trips.
Dutch and Swedish wording for Rivers State applicants
The Netherlands is relaxed about flights. Its tourism checklist accepts a reservation in your name or another paper describing the trip, and it does not want you to pay for a ticket before the decision.[8] It also wants proof that you live legally in Nigeria, which for a foreign oil-sector worker means the residence permit.[8]
Sweden is even more explicit. Its Nigeria page asks for a reservation that names the airline and both dates, and says no payment is required.[10] Six months of statements or wage specifications go with it.[10]
Flying to Lagos for a Schengen slot?
Order the $9 reservation before you leave Port Harcourt, check it on the airline's site, and pack the printout.
How do the options compare for Port Harcourt?
| Country | Nearest desk for a PH resident | Official flight wording | Our view |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | VFS premium, Hotel Presidential[2] | Bookings add little unless transiting[3] | Skip the reservation |
| Germany (business) | Consulate General Lagos[4] | "Flight reservation/booking"[6] | Held reservation |
| Netherlands | French TLScontact, Lagos[7] | Named reservation; no purchase needed[8] | Held reservation |
| Sweden | VFS Lagos or Abuja[9] | Printout of reservation; payment not required[10] | Held reservation |
| Italy | TLScontact Lagos or Abuja[11] | Per the category list on TLScontact | Check the list |
What should the route look like from PHC?
Start the reservation wherever your trip abroad really begins. FAAN describes Port Harcourt International at Omagwa as an airport with both international and domestic terminals; the newer international terminal opened in October 2018.[1] Ethiopian Airlines sells journeys to Port Harcourt through its own website, from cities such as Washington and Atlanta.[12]
Plenty of Port Harcourt travellers instead take a domestic flight to Lagos or Abuja and pick up a long-haul carrier there. Either shape is fine. If the reservation starts in Lagos, say in one line of your cover letter how you will get there. What officers notice is a mismatch, for instance a reservation from Abuja when every other paper in the file suggests you will leave from Lagos.

Foreign oil and gas staff living in Port Harcourt
Port Harcourt has long hosted engineers and contractors from abroad. If that is you, three things carry extra weight. First, the residence permit: Germany's list asks for a copy at item 5, and the Dutch and Swedish lists ask for proof of lawful residence too.[6][8][10] Second, the rotation: if you work 28 days on and 28 off, make the reservation fit the actual break, not an imagined holiday. Third, your passport, because some rules follow nationality rather than address. Our Indian travellers guide and Filipino travellers guide cover two common cases.
Example: a Trans Amadi supplier at a German trade fair
Consider Ibiere, who runs a valve and pipe supply firm in Trans Amadi and wants to visit a trade fair in Düsseldorf in March as a visitor. Rivers puts her under the German Consulate General in Lagos.[4] She books an appointment for 10 February and a PHC–LOS flight for the day before.
Her file follows the business list: the German exhibitor's invitation, her fair ticket, her company's bank statements for three months, and her own employer confirmation as director.[6] We would suggest ordering on 6 February, before she travels to Lagos: Port Harcourt to Düsseldorf via Frankfurt on 15 March, back on 21 March. The reservation sits at item 9 in the folder. The PHC–LOS hop for the appointment does not appear on it.
A second example: a GRA nurse visiting her sister in Leeds
Now Blessing, a nurse living in the Old GRA, wants three weeks with her sister in Leeds in August. She books biometrics at Hotel Presidential to save a trip to Lagos, accepting the premium fee.[2]
Here we would tell her not to buy anything from us. A UK visitor application does not benefit from a flight booking.[3] Her hospital's leave letter, payslips and her sister's invitation do the work. She buys a real ticket once the visa arrives.

Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Delta residents who fly from PHC
Port Harcourt's airport also serves people from Yenagoa, Uyo, Eket, Warri and the smaller oil towns, and the rules for them line up neatly with Rivers. Germany lists Bayelsa, Akwa-Ibom, Delta, Cross River, Abia and Imo in the Lagos consulate's district.[4] None of those states appear on the Netherlands' Abuja list, so their residents also use the French TLScontact centre in Lagos.[7] For UK applicants, the Hotel Presidential centre is the closest option for much of the region, and the minister quoted by VFS spoke of serving people "in and around" Rivers.[2]
If you live in Uyo or Yenagoa and will really fly out of PHC, start the reservation there. If your nearest airport and your real plan point somewhere else, follow the plan. The aim is a file in which the address, the appointment city and the departure airport make sense together.
When should a Port Harcourt applicant order?
Before you travel to the appointment city, and no more than a few days before the appointment itself. Holds are capped at 2 weeks and the carrier sets the true length, which is sometimes less. A Lagos appointment on Tuesday means ordering on the Friday or Saturday before, so you can print at home. If your interview moves back, buy a new reservation closer to the fresh date.
What do Port Harcourt applicants get wrong?
- Turning up at the Belgian centre in Abuja for a Dutch visa; Rivers is not on its list.
- Adding the PHC–Lagos appointment flight to the visa reservation.
- Assuming the Hotel Presidential centre is always open. Check VFS for current dates.
- Leaving company bank statements out of a German business file.
- Calling the reservation a bought fare. Be accurate on every form.
Port Harcourt FAQ
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Port Harcourt?
No. We run entirely on the internet and have no shop in Port Harcourt, Lagos or Abuja. Fill in the booking form, pay $9 for every passenger, and the reservation lands in your inbox, most often within ten minutes or so. Any business centre in town can run off a copy. WhatsApp and email support are available.
Must I travel to Lagos for a Schengen visa?
For Germany and the Netherlands, yes. Rivers falls in the German Consulate General Lagos district, and the Dutch reserve their Abuja centre for the FCT and a fixed list of northern and central states. Italy and Sweden accept files in Lagos or Abuja, so Lagos is the usual choice from Port Harcourt. Always read the country's own page first.
Is the UK centre at Hotel Presidential still open?
VFS opened it in May 2025 as a premium centre, describing it as serving the summer season. Availability can change, so look for Port Harcourt slots on the VFS booking site. If none appear, the standard UK centres in Abuja and Lagos remain open for Rivers State applicants.
Does Germany need a paid ticket for a business visa?
Its business and trade fair list for Nigeria asks for a "Flight reservation/booking" at item 9, so a reservation fits the wording. The company invitation, company bank statements and employer confirmation are what carry the file. If the consulate asks you for something stronger, do what it says.
Should my reservation start at PHC or in Lagos?
Wherever you will really begin the international journey. If you will fly from Port Harcourt with a connection, start at PHC. If you will travel to Lagos and fly long-haul from there, start at LOS and explain it in your cover letter. Consistency with your other papers matters more than the airport.
Can I use the reservation to board at Omagwa?
No. It reserves a seat under an airline PNR, but there is no paid fare behind it, so you cannot check in. After the visa is issued, purchase a ticket for dates covered by the visa.
How long does a Port Harcourt reservation last?
Fourteen days is the outer limit; individual carriers may release the seat sooner under their own rules. Buy it in the week of your appointment and confirm the PNR on the carrier's site before printing. If the date changes, a replacement ordered nearer the new appointment is the safe choice.
