Abuja is a city of embassies, yet a surprising number of them do not process visas themselves. Some outsource the paperwork to TLScontact or VFS Global in the capital, some send everything to Lagos, and a few still take files over their own counter. For anyone living in Maitama, Wuse, Garki, Gwarinpa or the satellite towns, the useful question is simple: can I do this in Abuja, or am I going to Lagos? This guide answers that country by country, quotes what each official page says about flights, and explains where our reservation fits. Nothing about our service is local: we operate online and keep no premises in the FCT.

Can you apply without leaving Abuja?
For most Schengen countries and the UK, yes. The main exceptions are Germany, whose visas are normally decided in Lagos, and the United States, whose Abuja embassy no longer offers routine visas. Our Kano guide covers the US change in detail, so we will not repeat it; the short version for an FCT resident is that the interview is in Lagos.
Germany is subtler. The FCT sits inside the Abuja embassy's consular district, alongside 19 states from Niger and Kwara to Borno and Sokoto.[1] Yet Germany's Schengen page makes Lagos the normal place for visa files; the embassy steps in only for particular cases.[2] Plan for a Lagos appointment unless the embassy tells you otherwise. The same page asks for at least 15 days between filing and travel, and allows filing up to six months ahead.[2]
Dutch and Belgian visas at the Belgian TLScontact centre
The FCT is on the Netherlands' list for Abuja, together with Adamawa, Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.[3] Residents of those places file Dutch Schengen visas at the Belgian TLScontact centre in the capital.
On flights, the Netherlands' tourism checklist wants a reservation under your own name covering entry to and exit from Schengen (or some other proof of your travel plan), and it is explicit that nobody needs to buy the fare first.[4] A held reservation fits that exactly.
The Kwara trap: two lists that do not match
Here is something that catches people living near the FCT. Germany's Abuja district includes Kwara.[1] The Netherlands' Abuja list does not.[3] So a family in Ilorin applying for the Netherlands goes to the French TLScontact centre in Lagos, not to Abuja, even though Germany treats Kwara as a northern state.
The lesson is broader than Kwara. Each country draws its own map of Nigeria, and the maps disagree. If you moved to Abuja recently, or live in Nasarawa and commute into the city, read the specific country's page before booking a centre. Your residence address decides, not where you work.
What does the Czech embassy in Abuja ask for?
The Czech Republic is one of the few missions still taking files across its own counter. Applications go to the embassy at 5 Gnassingbe Eyadema Street, Asokoro, by appointment: Monday and Tuesday mornings for Schengen visas, Wednesday and Thursday mornings for Schengen and long-stay visas.[5]
Its supporting-documents page for Nigeria asks for a "Copy of flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight."[6] The "or" matters: a reservation is enough, provided it shows the way back. Non-Nigerians living in Nigeria must add a copy of their Nigerian residence permit.[6]
Sweden: VFS Abuja, decision at the embassy
Sweden runs its Nigerian visa work out of Abuja. You can file at the VFS centre on the third floor of Sterling Bank Plaza, Mohammadu Buhari Way, or at the embassy itself on T.Y. Danjuma Street in Asokoro, though Sweden says VFS is the faster route.[7]
Its list is refreshingly direct. You need a reservation showing the airline and the departure and return dates, and Sweden adds that payment is not required, only a printout.[8] Bring six months of bank statements or wage specifications, and, if you are not Nigerian, a copy of your residence permit.[8]
Appointment at TLScontact or VFS in Abuja?
Order your $9 reservation a few days ahead and check the PNR on the airline's website before you print.
How do the Abuja desks compare?
| Country | Where an FCT resident files | What the mission writes about flights | Our pick |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netherlands, Belgium | Belgian TLScontact, Abuja[3] | Booking in your name; paying not required[4] | Held reservation |
| Czech Republic | Embassy, Asokoro[5] | "flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight"[6] | Return reservation |
| Sweden | VFS, Sterling Bank Plaza[7] | Reservation printout; no payment[8] | Held reservation |
| Denmark | VFS Abuja or Lagos[9] | Check the VFS list for your purpose | Read the list first |
| Italy | TLScontact Abuja; Lagos consulate decides[10] | Use the category list from TLScontact | Read the list first |
| Germany | Usually Consulate General Lagos[2] | See our Lagos guide | Held reservation |
| United Kingdom | VFS Abuja[11] | Flight bookings not useful unless transiting[12] | Leave it out |
Is a flight booking worth adding to an Abuja UK file?
No. In its guidance on evidence for visitors, the Home Office lists flight bookings as unhelpful, transit cases apart.[12] You apply online and give biometrics at VFS Global's Abuja centre, one of three standard UK centres in Nigeria alongside Ikeja and Victoria Island.[11] Put the effort into employment letters, savings history and the reason you will come back to the FCT.
Flights from Nnamdi Azikiwe that make sense on a reservation
ABV is Nigeria's second busiest airport, according to FAAN, with its own international terminal.[13] For Europe, the most straightforward option is British Airways, which advertises direct flights between London Heathrow and Abuja.[14] For the Schengen area, a one-stop journey through London, a European hub, Istanbul, Addis Ababa or a Gulf city is normal and easy to read.
Some Abuja residents prefer to fly long-haul from Lagos because of the choice of flights there. That is fine on a reservation too, provided your file is consistent: if the reservation starts in Lagos, add the domestic leg or explain in one line how you will get there. Our British Airways guide shows how a BA booking looks on the airline's own pages.

Diplomats' families, NGO staff and other foreign residents
Abuja has an unusually large community of foreigners attached to embassies, international organisations, NGOs and federal contractors. For them, the residence document carries as much weight as the passport. The Czech and Swedish lists both ask non-Nigerians for a copy of the Nigerian residence permit,[6][8] and the Dutch checklist wants proof that you live legally where you apply.[4]
Holders of diplomatic or official passports should ask their own mission or the destination embassy first, since special arrangements often apply and our service is rarely the right tool. For everyone else on a work permit, keep the return date well inside the permit and the contract. Our guide for African passport holders covers nationality rules that apply wherever you live.
Example: a Maitama civil servant on a course in Prague
Suppose Hauwa, a civil servant living in Maitama, has a place on a two-week training course in Prague in February. The Czech embassy in Asokoro takes her file directly, so she books a Tuesday morning appointment for 20 January.[5]
The Czech list wants a flight ticket or a reservation that includes the return.[6] We would suggest ordering on 16 or 17 January: Abuja to Prague with a single connection on 8 February, back on 22 February. Her course confirmation, her ministry's release letter and her bank statements sit beside it. The reservation is the easy part of her file; it simply fixes the dates.
A second example: a Gwarinpa family visiting Gothenburg
Picture Emeka and Chioma in Gwarinpa, taking their two children to see Chioma's sister in Gothenburg over Easter. Sweden's VFS centre on Mohammadu Buhari Way handles all four applications, and the embassy decides.[7]
Sweden asks for a reservation printout with the airline and both dates, and no payment.[8] One booking can hold all four names, each spelt as in the passport. They order it three days before the VFS slot. Six months of statements and the sister's invitation do the persuading.
Ordering from Abuja, step by step
- Find your desk using the table above, then save the current checklist from that country's site.
- Enter the route on our booking page, normally from ABV, with the dates on your form.
- Add every traveller, copying names from the passport's data page.
- Pay $9 a head online; single and return cost the same.
- Check your email roughly 10 minutes later, including junk mail.
- Look the PNR up on the airline's website (our guide shows how), then print.
For order status use tracking; for rates in other markets see pricing. If accommodation is also needed, we offer hotel reservations.
Living just outside the FCT
Many people who work in Abuja sleep in Nasarawa State, in Mararaba, Masaka or Keffi, or across the border in Niger State around Suleja. That is good news for most applications. Both Nasarawa and Niger appear on the Dutch Abuja list,[3] and both sit in the German embassy's district too.[1] Sweden, Denmark and Italy do not divide Nigeria by state on the pages we read, so the Abuja centres are open to you whichever side of the boundary you live on.[7][9][10] Use your actual home address on the form, even if your office is in the Central Business District, and keep a utility bill or tenancy agreement handy in case the centre asks where you live.
When should an Abuja applicant place the order?
Three or four days before the appointment is about right. The seat stays held for a fortnight at most, and the carrier, rather than us, settles exactly how long. Heading to Lagos for a German slot? Order before the trip south, then open the PNR on your phone the night you arrive. If your appointment slips by a fortnight, place a new order closer to the revised date.
Common Abuja slip-ups
- Taking a Kwara or Ekiti address to the Belgian centre for a Dutch visa; neither state is on its list.
- Booking a German slot at the embassy when the Lagos consulate is normally responsible.
- Leaving out the return leg on a Czech file that asks for it.
- Printing the reservation weeks early, so the hold lapses before anyone reads it.
- Presenting the reservation as a purchased fare. It is not one, and the file should say so.
Abuja FAQ
Does DummyTicketPrice have an office in Abuja?
No. Everything happens online: you choose the route, enter the passengers, pay $9 each and the PDF follows by email, ordinarily inside 10 minutes or so. There is no counter to visit in the FCT or anywhere else in Nigeria. You can print the PDF at home or at a business centre near your appointment.
Can I apply for a Dutch visa in Abuja?
Yes, if you live in the FCT or one of the 18 states on the Netherlands' list for Abuja, such as Kaduna, Niger or Plateau. You file at the Belgian TLScontact centre. Residents of other states, including Kwara and Lagos, use the French TLScontact centre in Lagos instead. A booking in your name is enough; no paid ticket is needed.
Will the German embassy in Abuja take my visa application?
Probably not. The FCT is in the embassy's district, but the German missions say the Consulate General in Lagos is normally responsible for visas, with the embassy accepting them only in certain cases. Plan for a Lagos appointment unless the embassy tells you otherwise, and read our Lagos page for the consulate's flight wording.
Is a Czech file in Abuja fine with a reservation?
Under the wording on its Nigeria page, yes: a ticket and a reservation are offered as alternatives, and the way home must be shown. So a held booking with both directions meets the letter of it. If the embassy asks for anything stronger in your case, follow what it says.
Where do Abuja residents give UK biometrics?
At VFS Global's UK visa application centre in Abuja, one of three standard centres in Nigeria. You complete the application online first. For a standard visit, the Home Office does not find flight bookings useful unless you are transiting, so we would not include one.
Can I fly out of ABV on this reservation?
No. The PNR is genuine, yet without a paid fare there is nothing for the check-in agent to board you on. When the visa comes through, purchase a proper ticket for travel inside its validity.
How long does an Abuja reservation stay valid?
Two weeks is the ceiling. The carrier fixes the real lifespan, and certain routes and fares release the seat earlier. Ordering a few days before your appointment keeps it live while your file is checked. If the appointment is moved, order again nearer the new date.
Order your Abuja reservation
$9 each, paid online, with a booking reference the carrier itself will display.
Worth repeating: a held booking documents intended dates and nothing more. Name it accurately, make the dates agree across the file, and let the embassy judge the rest.
