Lagos is where most of Nigeria's visa traffic ends up. The German and Italian consulates sit on Victoria Island, the only US post still doing routine visa interviews is here, and the big application centres run by TLScontact and VFS Global all have Lagos branches. If you live in Lekki, Ikeja, Surulere or Ikorodu, you are usually a short (if slow) drive from the desk that will take your file. This guide sets out which office deals with a Lagos resident, what each one actually writes about flights, which airlines publish routes out of Murtala Muhammed, and how our reservation fits. We are an online business, so there is no DummyTicketPrice counter anywhere in Lagos.

Which office handles a Lagos resident's visa?
For nearly everything, an office inside Lagos. That is the big advantage of living here rather than in the north.
Germany splits Nigeria in two. The Consulate General in Lagos covers Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Anambra, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, Edo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Rivers.[1] On top of that, the German missions say that as a rule Lagos is responsible for visa applications across the country, with the embassy in Abuja stepping in only in certain cases.[2] So a Lagos address sends you to Victoria Island without any argument.
The Netherlands publishes a list of 19 northern and central states plus the FCT that file in Abuja. Lagos is not on it, so the French TLScontact office in Lagos is the right door for Lagosians.[5]
Italy centralises decisions at its Lagos consulate, and TLScontact takes applications at desks in both cities.[7] The consulate itself is at 12B Walter Carrington Crescent.[8]
Sweden and Denmark both route applicants to VFS Global in Lagos or Abuja. Sweden's Lagos centre is on Admiral Ayinla Way, while the decision is made by its embassy in Abuja.[11] Denmark's visa section in Abuja is closed to the public and sends everyone to VFS.[13]
The UK has two standard VFS centres in Lagos, one in Ikeja and one on Victoria Island, open since November 2024.[9]
What does Germany's Lagos consulate say about flights?
It wants a reservation, and it says in plain words that you need not buy the ticket. The German missions' page for visiting family and friends lists the flight item with the note "no booked ticket required".[3] The matching sorting list, dated June 2026, puts it at item 9 as "Flight reservation/booking".[4]
That visitor list is worth reading in full if you are inviting yourself to a relative's home in Germany. Item 13 asks for an informal invitation from your host and, where relevant, proof of the family relationship.[4] Item 5 asks non-Nigerians for a copy of their Nigerian residence permit.[4] The bank statements must be issued, signed and stamped by the bank, and cover the last three months.[3] Nothing on the list is optional in practice; the page warns that unsorted files are turned away.
Two process rules matter for timing. File at least 15 calendar days before you fly and no more than six months ahead.[2] And book the appointment yourself: the consulate says it does not cooperate with agencies selling appointments for a fee.[2]
Sweden's wording is the clearest in Nigeria
Of all the lists we read for Nigeria, Sweden's leaves the least room for doubt. Its required-documents page asks for a flight reservation showing the airline and both dates, and then adds that you are not required to make payment; a printout of the reservation is what it wants.[12] It also asks non-Nigerian residents for a copy of their residence permit, and six months of bank statements or wage slips.[12]
Lagos residents file at the VFS centre on Admiral Ayinla Way, and the embassy in Abuja makes the decision.[11] Sweden says filing through VFS is the quickest route; filing in person at the embassy is possible but may be slower.[11]
Victoria Island or Ikeja appointment this week?
Order the $9 reservation two or three days before, look it up on the airline's site, then print it.
How do the Lagos options compare?
| Destination | Lagos desk | What the official page says on flights | Our suggestion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | Consulate General, Victoria Island[1] | "no booked ticket required"; list item "Flight reservation/booking"[3][4] | Held reservation |
| Netherlands | French TLScontact, Lagos[5] | Booking in your name; no paid ticket needed[6] | Held reservation |
| Sweden | VFS, Admiral Ayinla Way[11] | Reservation printout; no payment required[12] | Held reservation |
| Italy | TLScontact Lagos; consulate decides[7] | Category lists not readable by us in October 2026 | Follow the TLS list |
| United Kingdom | VFS Ikeja or Victoria Island[9] | Flight bookings rated of little use unless transiting[10] | Leave it out |
| Canada | Online application through IRCC | Travel plans such as flight details may be included[17] | Optional reservation |
Is the US interview in Lagos, and do you need flights for it?
Yes, and no. Routine US visa interviews for the whole country now take place at the Consulate General in Lagos; our Kano guide sets out the August 2026 change and the separate 2026 restrictions affecting Nigerian passport holders. For a Lagos resident the geography is easy. The policy is the hard part, and a flight booking does nothing to help with it.
The DS-160 asks only for intended dates. Our honest view: skip the $9 for a US interview, unless a printed plan helps you personally when answering questions. If you do bring one, call it a reservation.
What routes out of LOS look natural on a reservation?
The ones you would really book. Lagos has more long-haul choice than any other Nigerian city, so a nonstop or one-stop routing is easy to find.
- London: Virgin Atlantic sells Heathrow–Lagos fares on its own booking pages.[16]
- United States: Delta runs a Lagos destination page with fares bookable on delta.com.[15]
- Europe via a hub: for Germany, Sweden or the Netherlands, a connection through Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paris, Istanbul or a Gulf hub reads as ordinary.
One thing local travellers often forget: the airport is mid-rebuild. FAAN says Terminal 1 is closed for a rehabilitation planned to take about 22 months, with a temporary departure hall of 20 check-in counters in the meantime.[14] It does not change your reservation, but leave extra time on the day you actually fly.

Living in Lagos on a foreign passport
Plenty of Lagos residents are foreign nationals working for companies based here, and their files look different from a Nigerian's. The residence document is central. Germany's visitor list wants non-Nigerians to include a copy of their permit,[4] Sweden asks for the same,[12] and the Dutch tourism checklist wants proof that you live legally in the country where you apply.[6]
Our practical advice for expats: start and end the reservation in Lagos unless your real trip begins elsewhere, keep the return comfortably inside your permit's validity, and remember that some rules depend on your passport, not your address. An Indian engineer in Ikoyi faces different US and UK rules from a Nigerian colleague at the next desk. Our guide for Indian travellers and guide for African passport holders cover the passport side.
Example: a Lekki couple visiting family in Hamburg
Take Tunde and Funmi, who live in Lekki Phase 1 and plan three weeks with Funmi's brother in Hamburg in December. They are visiting family, so the German visitor category applies, and Lagos is their consulate.[1][3]
Their appointment on Victoria Island is on 3 November. They sort the file in the order of the June 2026 list: application forms, passport copies, birth certificates, insurance, then the flight reservation at item 9, then accommodation, money and ties.[4] The brother's informal invitation goes under item 13. We would suggest ordering one reservation with both names on 30 or 31 October: Lagos to Hamburg with one connection on 8 December, back on 29 December. The insurance starts and ends on the same dates. If the consulate later asks for anything more about travel, they do what it asks.
A second example: an Ikeja accountant at a Stockholm conference
Now picture Ngozi, an accountant in Ikeja, invited to a four-day finance conference in Stockholm in May. She books VFS on Admiral Ayinla Way for 14 April. Sweden's list asks for a reservation with the airline and both dates, and confirms no payment is needed.[12]
Ngozi orders on 11 April: Lagos to Stockholm via Amsterdam on 18 May, returning 23 May. Her conference registration, employer's letter and six months of statements carry the real weight. Once the visa arrives, she buys a ticket for those dates or close to them.
How do you order from Lagos?
- Confirm the desk from the sections above and download the list for your purpose of travel.
- Pick an honest route starting at LOS, or at the airport you will truly use, on our booking page.
- Type every name exactly as on the passport, including middle names that appear there.
- Pay $9 for each traveller by card through our secure checkout.
- Look out for the email, which usually lands within about 10 minutes; check the spam folder too.
- Retrieve the PNR on the airline's site with this walkthrough, then print a clean copy.
Order status is on our tracking page, and our pricing page shows our rates for every market. If your list also wants a hotel, see hotel reservations.
How many days before the appointment should you order?
Two to four. A held booking survives a fortnight at most; each carrier sets its own cut-off, and on some fares it comes sooner. Lagos traffic is reason enough to get the PDF printed the day before rather than hunting for a business centre near the consulate on the morning. If the consulate keeps your file longer than expected and asks for current travel details, order a fresh reservation then rather than relying on the old one.
Mistakes we would steer Lagos applicants away from
- Paying a "consultant" for a German slot. The consulate says it does not deal with paid appointment agents.[2]
- Filing Dutch papers at the Belgian centre. That is for the Abuja list of states; Lagos residents use the French TLScontact centre.[5]
- Ordering a reservation the day the appointment is booked, weeks before anyone will look at it.
- Labelling the hold a "ticket" in the form, the cover letter or at the interview.
- Using an edited PDF. If the airline cannot find the booking, nobody else will either.
Lagos FAQ
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Lagos?
No. We work only online, with no desk in Lagos, Abuja or anywhere else. You complete the online form, pay $9 per traveller, and a PDF reaches your inbox, typically some 10 minutes afterwards. Any cyber café or office printer can print it. Support is available on WhatsApp and by email.
Does the German consulate in Lagos need a paid ticket?
Not for a visit to family or friends. The German missions' visitor page notes "no booked ticket required", and the June 2026 sorting list names a "Flight reservation/booking" at item 9. Other categories have their own lists, so check yours. Should your own list demand a confirmed or paid fare, that wording wins.
Which TLScontact office takes a Lagos resident's Dutch file?
At the French TLScontact centre in Lagos. The Netherlands sends only residents of 19 northern and central states plus the FCT to Abuja, and Lagos is not among them. Its tourism checklist is happy with a booking under your name and states that buying the flight is unnecessary.
Which UK visa centre should I use in Lagos?
VFS Global runs two standard centres, in Ikeja and on Victoria Island; pick whichever is easier to reach on your appointment day. For a visit, the Home Office treats flight bookings as weak evidence unless you are transiting, so most Lagos applicants leave them out and focus on money, work and family ties.
Can my reservation start in Abuja instead of Lagos?
Yes, if that is genuinely where your trip abroad begins, for instance because you work in Abuja during the week. The reservation should match your real plan and the dates in your form. Add one line to the cover letter explaining the starting city so the officer is not left guessing.
Can I check in at Murtala Muhammed with this reservation?
No. It is a held seat under a real airline PNR with no fare paid, and an agent at check-in has nothing to board you on. Once the visa is stamped, purchase a real fare for dates it covers. You can keep the same route if it suits you, but nothing obliges you to.
How long will my Lagos reservation stay live?
Up to 2 weeks, on a schedule each airline sets for itself; some holds end sooner. Order it close to the appointment and check it once more on the airline's website the evening before. If your slot is moved further out, buy a new reservation nearer the new date.
Ready to order from Lagos?
$9 per traveller, online only, with a PNR you can look up yourself.
A word of caution: a reservation is one supporting paper among many. It does not buy a visa. Describe it honestly, keep its dates in step with everything else, and let the consulate make its decision.
