Oman is a long country, and that matters more for visas than people expect. A nurse in Sur, an engineer in Duqm and a teacher in Ibri all hold the same resident card, yet the consulates they need sit in one corner of the map. Our focus here is residents of the Sultanate, citizens and expatriates alike, who and want a visa for somewhere else. It covers which missions take applications from Oman, what their official lists say about flights and residence permits, the airports outside Muscat, and where a reservation from us fits. If you are in the capital, our Muscat page goes street-level; Dhofar residents should also read the Salalah page. DummyTicketPrice operates purely online and has nobody on the ground in Oman.

Which missions accept applications from Oman residents?
Most European countries route Oman applications through a handful of visa centres in Muscat. The good news for people outside the capital is that several of those centres handle more than one country, so a single trip can cover a lot of ground.
The Dutch arrangement is the widest. NetherlandsWorldwide says that at its location in Oman you can also apply for Belgium, Estonia, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Sweden or Switzerland, and that you may submit there if you live in Oman or Yemen.[1] Spain's BLS checklist for Oman lists Spain, Finland, Lithuania, Malta and Slovenia on the same tourist document list.[7] Denmark's embassy in Riyadh has VFS Global take Danish and Icelandic applications in Muscat, at the Tilal Complex in Al Khuwair.[8]
| Destination | Where an Oman resident files | Flight wording on the official list | Residence-permit rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Italy | VFS Global, Muscat[4] | "Return ticket (or booking) or evidence that the applicant has his/her own means of transport"[5] | Valid three months after departure, on the current passport[5] |
| Spain (also Finland, Lithuania, Malta, Slovenia) | BLS International[6] | "Photocopy (full page) of your booking of return ticket"[7] | Permit issued on the current valid passport[7] |
| Netherlands and seven others | VFS Global, Muscat[1] | Reservation in your name; no paid ticket needed[2] | Must live in Oman or Yemen[1] |
| Germany | VFS Global, Panorama Mall[3] | Check the VFS list for your purpose | Residing permanently in Oman[3] |
| Denmark | VFS Global, Tilal Complex[8] | Check the VFS list for your purpose | See the VFS list |
| United Kingdom | Online, then a visa application centre[10] | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" counted as less useful[11] | Not a fixed rule; show ties to Oman |
Two of those lines deserve a closer look. Italy accepts a booking, not just a purchase. Spain's list says "booking of return ticket", which we read as a reservation for the return trip, though the Spanish document is an older PDF and the centre's current list wins if the two disagree.[7] Where a counter checklist insists on a "confirmed" or "paid" ticket, treat that as final: our reservation may fall short, and a refundable fare becomes the sensible purchase.

OMR 3.5 per traveller, paid online by card. Your reservation PDF arrives by email in about ten minutes.
What do the lists say about your resident card?
For expatriates this is the line that sinks more Oman files than any flight. Italy's 2026 checklist for non-Omani residents wants a photocopy of your Omani residence visa and resident card, and it wants that permit to run for three months or more past your planned departure, and to sit in your current passport.[5] Spain's list makes the same point about the passport: non-Omani applicants need a residence permit issued on the passport they are using now.[7]
That second rule catches people who renewed their passport at their own embassy last year and never had the residence visa moved across. Fix that first. Then work backwards from the card's expiry. Say your resident card runs out on 30 April and you want to come back from Milan on 15 February. That leaves about ten weeks, short of Italy's three months. Renew before you apply, not after.
Employment paperwork comes next. Italy expects your employer to sign an original no-objection letter covering pay, job title, start date and trip purpose, and promising you will come back to the job in Oman.[5] Non-Omanis applying to Spain add a sponsor's letter and a labour card copy; every applicant, Omani or not, adds half a year of bank statements and a salary certificate.[7]
Living outside Muscat: how to plan the trip in
Every European centre we found for Oman is in Muscat. Germany names Panorama Mall in Al-Khuwair; Denmark names the Tilal Complex on Dohat Al Adab Street.[3][8] If you live in Salalah, Duqm or Khasab, that means a flight or a long drive to submit biometrics in person, and the Dutch page is explicit that you must attend yourself, even if you are under 18.[1]
Our practical advice for people outside the capital:
- Book the appointment first, then arrange the trip to Muscat around it, then order the reservation last.
- Bring every family member who is applying; children's fingerprints may be exempt, but the Dutch rules still expect them at the counter.[1]
- Keep your visa itinerary honest. If you will really fly out of Salalah, the reservation can start at SLL. Your journey to the Muscat appointment is a separate matter and does not belong on it.
- Build in a day. Missing a slot because a domestic flight was late costs more than a hotel night.
Spain is stricter on timing than most: BLS says applications must reach the embassy at least 30 days before you intend to travel.[6] For someone in Dhofar coordinating leave, travel to Muscat and a Spanish trip, that 30-day floor is the date to plan around.
Oman's airports, and which one belongs on your reservation
Oman Airports describes itself as the government-owned operator of the country's civil airports and lists Muscat International, Salalah, Suhar and Duqm.[14] For a visa itinerary, the rule is simple: start the reservation where you will actually begin your trip.
| Where you live | Likely departure point | Notes for the reservation |
|---|---|---|
| Muscat, Seeb, Barka | Muscat International (MCT) | The obvious choice; see our Muscat guide |
| Salalah and Dhofar | Salalah (SLL), or MCT after a domestic hop | Either is fine if it matches your plan; details on the Salalah page |
| Sohar and Al Batinah North | Suhar, or MCT | Pick the airport you will really use |
| Duqm and Al Wusta | Duqm, or MCT | Check the airline's current schedule from Duqm first |
| Buraimi | MCT, or a UAE airport | If you will cross into the UAE to fly, say so in your cover letter |
A Buraimi start through Dubai or Abu Dhabi is entirely normal if that is how you will travel. Just remember that crossing into the UAE is a border of its own, and your nationality decides what you need there. We would not put a UAE departure on a visa itinerary unless you have checked that you can make that crossing.

US and UK visas for people living in Oman
United States. The US Embassy in Muscat is open, yet the visa section's page reports that routine processing is not being offered in Oman for now.[9] It points nonimmigrant applicants to the post in the country where they live or hold citizenship.[9] For most expatriates in Oman that means waiting for updates or applying at home. Since 1 January 2026, Presidential Proclamation 10998 has suspended or limited visas for nationals of 39 countries, so check whether yours is affected before paying a fee.[9] No flight booking is needed for a US application.
United Kingdom. Expatriates apply online and then give biometrics at a visa application centre; GOV.UK's centre finder shows the current location for Oman.[10] The Home Office files "flight bookings (unless transiting)" under evidence that adds little to a visit claim.[11] We would leave a reservation out and put the effort into salary slips, the resident card and an employer letter. Omani citizens should run GOV.UK's checker, since some nationalities now need only a £20 electronic travel authorisation (ETA) rather than a visa.[17]
Indian residents of Oman: passport first
A large share of Oman's expatriates hold Indian passports. Spain's Oman checklist demands a passport issued within the last ten years, and Italy wants three months of validity after you leave Schengen with two blank pages.[5][7] If your passport is near either limit, renew it before the Schengen appointment.
The Embassy of India in Muscat links to SGIVS Global as its consular service partner, and SGIVS says it runs 11 centres across Oman.[15][16] Its site gives addresses in Salalah, Sohar, Nizwa, Sur, Al Buraimi, Duqm, Ibri, Ibra and Khasab, so renewal is possible close to home.[16] Remember the knock-on effect: a new passport means a residence visa transfer before Spain or Italy will look at you. Our guide for Indians in the Gulf goes further.
Inviting family to Oman instead?
Some readers want the opposite: a parent or friend coming to visit them. Oman's foreign ministry says visa-exempt visitors must hold "a return ticket, a confirmed hotel reservation, health insurance" and enough money for the stay, and may stay 14 days.[12] Everyone else checks their options on the Royal Oman Police eVisa site.[13] That return-ticket wording is about arriving in Oman, which is a different situation from the visa files above, and the airline may check it at boarding. Our Oman visa guide covers it in detail.
Example: a family in Sur visiting Italy
Picture a Pakistani engineer living in Sur with his wife and two children, planning ten days in Rome and Florence in late March. Italy is the main destination, so Italy's checklist applies, filed at VFS in Muscat.[4][5]
Before anything else, he checks four resident cards against the return date. One child's card was issued on an old passport, so it is transferred first. His employer writes the no-objection letter with salary, position, start date and a promise that his job continues. They book a single morning slot for all four, drive up the night before, and order one reservation with all four names three days ahead of the slot: Muscat to Rome, back to Muscat. Their Rome hotel and travel insurance mirror those dates.
Example: a Filipina nurse in Sohar heading to Norway
A nurse from the Philippines working in Sohar wants a week in Oslo. Norway has no separate centre listed for her; NetherlandsWorldwide says its Oman location takes Norwegian applications too.[1] She lives in Oman, so she qualifies to file there.
For tourism, the Dutch list is content with a reservation; buying the ticket is not required.[2] She orders a Muscat–Oslo return reservation two days before her VFS appointment, because she will drive to Muscat to fly, not leave from Suhar. Her leave approval, hotel booking and insurance all carry the same dates.
How to order from anywhere in Oman
- Find the right centre for your main destination using the table above.
- Check the resident card and passport against your return date.
- Fill in our booking page with the departure airport you really intend to use.
- Pay OMR 3.5 per traveller by debit or credit card through Razorpay.
- Open the PDF from your inbox, normally within about 10 minutes.
- Retrieve the booking on the carrier's website, following our verification guide.
Order delayed? Try order tracking. Non-Omani prices: price page.
How early should you order?
Late, ideally two or three days before the VFS or BLS slot. Airlines keep these holds for two weeks at the very most, and each carrier picks its own cut-off, sometimes earlier. Germany says processing in Muscat can take up to 15 working days from arrival at the embassy, and the EU's general rule is 15 days, extendable to 45.[3][18] If your file is still with the consulate after the hold lapses and they ask for an updated itinerary, order a fresh one then.
Mistakes we see from Oman
- A resident card on an old passport when Spain or Italy wants it on the current one.
- Applying to the wrong country, such as filing for Italy when most nights are in France.
- Ordering the reservation the day you book a slot weeks away.
- Edited or "generated" PDFs that no airline system recognises.
- Leaving out a child who is on the visa application.
Oman FAQ
Do I have to go to Muscat to apply for a Schengen visa?
For the countries we checked, yes. Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Italy all use VFS Global in Muscat, and Spain uses BLS International. The Dutch page says you must attend in person to give fingerprints. Residents of Salalah, Duqm or Khasab should plan the journey into the capital around their appointment date.
Can I apply for a Norway or Switzerland visa in Oman?
Yes, through the Netherlands. NetherlandsWorldwide says its Oman location also takes applications for Belgium, Estonia, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland, provided you live in Oman or Yemen. Follow the VFS checklist for your purpose and include a reservation in your name, which the Dutch tourism list accepts.
How long must my Omani resident card be valid?
Italy's 2026 checklist says at least three months after your intended departure from Schengen, and the card must be on your current passport. Spain also wants the permit issued on your valid passport. Other countries publish their own rules, but three months past your return is a sensible floor everywhere.
Is a booking enough for Italy's Muscat embassy?
The embassy's checklist names a booking as an alternative to a ticket, as well as proof that you will travel by your own means. If the VFS counter hands you anything stricter, follow that. The consulate makes the decision, not us, and no flight document can guarantee a visa.
How do I pay OMR 3.5?
Pay with a debit or credit card on the Razorpay page. OMR 3.5 buys one traveller's reservation, single or return; a multi-city plan is billed OMR 3.5 per two sectors. We have no office in Oman, so there is no cash option.
Can my reservation start in Salalah or Sohar?
Yes, if that is where you will really leave from and the airline has seats on your dates. Many people from outside the capital still fly from Muscat, which is equally fine. What matters is that the reservation matches the travel plan you describe on your form.
Could I check in for a flight with this?
No. A real booking reference reserves the seat, yet no fare exists, and airport staff will refuse you. After the visa arrives, purchase a ticket within its dates.

Please note: we hold a seat; we do not sell you one. Call it what it is, a reservation, keep it in step with your other documents, and leave the verdict to the embassy.
