For a Bangladeshi passport holder, the flight question has a different answer at almost every embassy in Gulshan and Baridhara. Germany tells you plainly not to buy a ticket. Spain wants a photocopy of a return ticket booking. Malaysia asks for a return flight ticket alongside six months of bank statements. And the Maldives, a favourite short break from Dhaka, wants confirmed return tickets at the border. We read the official pages in October 2026 so you don't have to guess, and we've marked clearly where we couldn't confirm something.

Where do Bangladeshis apply for a Schengen visa?
Usually in Dhaka, but not always. The EU Delegation to Bangladesh lists eight Schengen countries with visa-issuing embassies in Dhaka: Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Sweden and Italy. If the country you're visiting isn't among them, the Delegation suggests checking with that country's embassy in Delhi first.[2] Some of those countries may be represented by another state in Dhaka, so ask before you book a flight to India for an appointment you might not need.
The EU timing rules apply everywhere: six months before travel is the earliest you may lodge a file and 15 days the latest; standard processing is 15 days, and it can be extended.[4]
What does the German Embassy in Dhaka ask for?
Germany's checklist is the most useful one for this topic, because it answers the question directly. The tourist visa requirements, used at the VFS centre in Dhaka, ask for a flight reservation or travel itinerary and then add a sentence most embassies never write: you do not have to book the flight, you only have to reserve it.[1]
That checklist also warns that forged papers, bookings included, will get a visa refused.[1] That is the real line to watch. A genuine reservation that opens on the airline's website is what they asked for. A PDF edited by a middleman to look like a ticket is exactly what gets visas refused. If you can't open your booking on the airline's Manage booking page, don't submit it.
A quick example of timing. Say your VFS slot is on a Wednesday and you're flying Dhaka to Berlin about four weeks later for a trade fair. We'd order on the Sunday or Monday before the appointment, with the same dates as your invitation letter, and check the PNR that day. It's a worked illustration, not a client case. What do Spain, the Netherlands and the others ask?
Spain. The BLS tourist checklist for Bangladesh asks for a full-page photocopy of your return ticket booking, and a hotel confirmation or voucher.[3] "Booking" sits closer to reservation than to paid ticket, and a held reservation in your name covering both directions answers it. Ask BLS if you are unsure. See Spain visa.
Netherlands. Applications go to the VFS Global centre in Dhaka.[5] Under the Dutch tourism checklist, a reservation in your name suffices; paying for the ticket isn't required.[6]

How do the UK, US and Canada treat flights?
UK. GOV.UK's visitor document guide places flight bookings under evidence you should not use, unless you are transiting.[7] For a Bangladeshi visitor application, we'd leave them out. See UK visa.
US. The State Department's advice is not to buy tickets until you hold a visa.[8] A reservation is optional at the Dhaka interview. See US interview.
Canada. IRCC mentions flight details as one of the travel plans you can include.[9] A reservation does that job. See Canada.
What do Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore want?
Malaysia. The Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka lists, for a social visit visa, a return flight ticket, a copy of the hotel reservation and a six-month bank statement.[10] The online eVISA system also refers to a return flight ticket. "Ticket" is the word used, so a held reservation may not satisfy it; check with the High Commission or your agent before applying. See Malaysia visa.
Thailand. Bangladeshis apply through Thailand's e-Visa portal, which lists proof of travel or a flight booking among the documents.[11] We could not open the detailed tourist visa page for Bangladesh this month, so read the list shown when you start your application. See Thailand visa.
Singapore. Bangladesh is on ICA's list of countries whose nationals need a visa.[12] At the checkpoint, ICA wants visitors able to prove onward travel, for example with tickets or visas.[12] See Singapore visa.
India is a common trip too. We couldn't open the official Indian visa pages for Bangladesh this month, so follow the current IVAC instructions rather than anything second-hand.
Is a reservation enough for the Maldives?
No, plan on a paid ticket. The Maldives immigration service asks for a confirmed return ticket, a stay prepaid at a registered property, and either enough money or an approved sponsor. It also notes that meeting these conditions doesn't guarantee entry.[13] Buy the return flight before you go, and keep the resort or guesthouse confirmation printed. See Maldives.
What happens at departure from Dhaka?
Departure immigration at Hazrat Shahjalal and other airports is run by the Special Branch of Bangladesh Police. Its immigration website exists, but in October 2026 it did not publish a list of departure documents we could cite.[14] Bangladeshi workers going abroad deal with BMET for emigration clearance; the BMET website would not load for us securely this month, so check the process with BMET or your recruiting agency.
Our advice: once your visa is granted, buy the ticket you'll fly on, with a return if you're a visitor. Carry it with your hotel confirmation and proof of funds. A flight reservation belongs in the visa file, not at the immigration desk, and never travel on a visit visa to work.
How can you check a reservation before you submit it?
Do it yourself, on the airline's own website, before the appointment. It takes two minutes and it is the single best protection against the fake bookings Germany warns about.[1]
- Find the operating airline on the PDF. If the flight is Dhaka to Frankfurt via Doha, it might be Qatar Airways; via Dubai, Emirates.
- Go to that airline's site directly by typing its address, not through a link someone sent you.
- On its booking lookup page, type the six-character reference and the lead traveller's surname.
- Check that the names, flight numbers and dates on screen match the PDF and your application.
- Save a screenshot with the date visible, in case anyone asks later what you checked.
If the booking won't open, stop. Don't submit it and hope. Contact whoever issued it and ask for a corrected one. With us, write to support or message on WhatsApp and we will look into it.
A word on surnames. Many Bangladeshi passports show a long given name and a short or empty surname field. Airlines handle this in different ways, and the lookup sometimes needs the name in a particular field. If you're unsure which part to type, try the name exactly as it appears in the passport's surname field first, then ask us. Our verifiable dummy ticket guide goes through this with screenshots.
One more check that people skip: open the hotel booking too. If the Spanish checklist asks for a hotel voucher alongside the return booking, the voucher's dates should start on the arrival day shown in the reservation.[3]

How do you put the flight part together?
- Confirm which embassy handles your trip: Dhaka, or a mission in Delhi.
- Read the flight line on that mission's current checklist.
- Fix dates that match your NOC or leave letter, hotel and insurance.
- Reserve the flight between one and three days ahead of your slot. Names exactly as in the passport, including any family name.
- Open the booking on the airline's site with the PNR and surname. See how to verify before submission.
- Name it honestly: a flight reservation, in the covering letter and forms.
- Buy the ticket after approval, then fly.
What do Bangladeshi applicants get wrong?
- Edited "tickets" from local agents. Germany warns that fake bookings lead to refusal. Screen sellers with our provider checklist.
- Name mismatches where the passport has a single long given name and no surname.
- Going to Delhi without checking whether the country is represented in Dhaka.
- Submitting a reservation for the Maldives when it wants confirmed return tickets.
