Accra is where Ghana's visa paperwork happens. The Dutch, German and UK desks that serve the country all take files in the capital, and two of them also handle people living in Liberia, Sierra Leone or Niger. If you live in Accra, Tema or anywhere around the Airport City area, you are a short drive from every appointment. That is the good news. The less obvious part is that each mission words the flight question differently, and one of them positively discourages you from sending flight bookings at all. Below: who receives your file, the exact flight wording on each checklist, which airlines leave ACC, and how to order a held booking from home. We run online only: there is no DummyTicketPrice desk in Accra or anywhere else in Ghana.

Kotoka or Accra International: does the name on the booking matter?
No. In February 2026 the government announced that Kotoka International would go back to its original name, Accra International Airport, and said the code ACC stays as it is.[1] Airline systems update at their own pace, so for a while you may see either name on a reservation. Neither is a mistake. What an officer compares is the three-letter code, the date and your name, and those do not change.
The airport's Terminal 3 is the international building. Ghana Airports Company says it can take 5 million passengers a year and process 1,250 an hour.[12] You will not need that detail for your visa file, but it explains why nearly every long-haul itinerary out of Ghana starts here rather than in Kumasi or Tamale.
What do the Accra missions actually say about flights?
Short answer: the Dutch and German Schengen desks want a reservation and say plainly that you need not pay for a ticket, while the UK treats flight bookings as weak evidence. Here is the wording side by side.
| Destination | Where an Accra resident applies | Official wording on flights | What we would do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netherlands | VFS Global, Accra[2] | "You will need a reservation in your name for your travel to and from the Schengen area… You do not need a paid travel ticket."[3] | Held reservation, return |
| Germany | German Embassy Accra[4] | "flight reservation for round-trip (no ticket required)"[5] | Held reservation, return |
| United Kingdom | VFS Global, Grand Oyeeman[6] | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" sit among items UKVI calls unhelpful[7] | Usually leave it out |
| United States | US Embassy, by interview | State Department guidance: hold off on tickets until a visa is granted[10] | Nothing required |
| Canada | Online, then biometrics | IRCC lists "flight details" as one example of travel-plan evidence[11] | Optional reservation |
Notice the gap between the Schengen desks and London. A Ghanaian family going to Amsterdam and then to London next summer would put the reservation in the Dutch file and probably keep it out of the UK one. That is not inconsistency on your part. It is simply two governments asking different questions.
Applying for Schengen from Accra: Dutch or German desk?
Your file belongs with whichever country hosts most of your nights; if nights are equal, the country of first entry. The German Embassy puts it as applying to "the Schengen Embassy of the main destination of travel".[4] So a fortnight in Cologne with a weekend in Amsterdam goes to the German Embassy, not to the Dutch desk at VFS.
Netherlands. Residents of Ghana lodge at the VFS Global application centre in Accra. The same centre takes residents of Liberia, Niger and Sierra Leone. The Dutch accept files from six months before travel until 15 days before it.[2] On flights, its tourism checklist is about as relaxed as any we have read: an itinerary booking under your name, or anything else that shows your plans, and nothing paid.[3]
Germany. The embassy serves Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The same 15-day and six-month window applies, and the embassy quotes 14 days to process, sometimes longer.[4] Its visitor checklist asks for a round-trip "flight reservation" and adds, in brackets, "no ticket required".[5] We find that bracket reassuring for applicants who were told by an agent to buy a full fare first. You do not need to.
France, Spain, Italy and several other Schengen states also process applications from Ghana. We could not load their official checklists for Ghana in October 2026, so rather than guess, we have skipped them. If one of them is your main destination, take the document list from that country's own visa site.

Is a flight booking worth adding to a UK file from Accra?
Normally no. UK Visas and Immigration publishes a list of documents it does not find useful for visitors, and "flight bookings (unless transiting)" is on it, alongside hotel bookings and travel insurance.[7] Caseworkers look at your income, ties to Ghana and the purpose of the trip instead.
In Accra, the UK centre has been run by VFS Global since 22 October 2024, on the mezzanine floor of the Grand Oyeeman Building on South Liberation Link. TLScontact did the job before that, and anyone with a half-finished TLS application had to complete it with VFS.[6] If you live in the Ashanti Region instead, VFS also opened a premium centre in Kumasi in June 2025.[9]
On GOV.UK, the Standard Visitor window opens three months before departure, and a decision typically follows inside three weeks.[8] Passing through Britain to a third country? Then showing the onward leg is sensible, because that is the exception UKVI itself carves out.
Living in Accra on a foreign passport
Plenty of people who apply in Accra hold another passport: Nigerian, Indian, Lebanese, Filipino, Chinese and more. They file from Ghana because they live there. Each checklist has something to say about that.
- Netherlands: you must give "valid proof of legal residence in the country where you are applying", which in practice means a permit running well past your trip: three months beyond your Schengen exit. Anyone filing away from their home base has to justify why.[3]
- United Kingdom: foreign nationals must supply "confirmation of legal residence" unless their passport already shows that right.[7]
- Germany: the embassy's checklist is built around ties to Ghana (employment, bank statements, family), so expect to show what keeps you in Accra.[5]
Practically, check your Ghana permit's expiry date before you even pick travel dates. If it lapses a month after your planned return, the Dutch three-month rule could sink the application before anyone looks at the flight.
For the flight itself, nothing changes because of nationality. The reservation shows your name exactly as in your own passport, Nigerian, Indian or otherwise, departing ACC. If you plan to fly from Lagos instead because you will be visiting family there first, request that origin and say so in your cover letter. Our guide for Nigerian travellers and guide for Indian travellers cover home-country rules.
Which flights from ACC look natural on a reservation?
Pick a routing an Accra traveller would really buy. The airlines themselves publish these:
- London: British Airways has said it flies daily between Accra and Heathrow Terminal 5, and in 2023 announced extra weekly services into Gatwick.[13]
- New York: Delta describes itself as the largest operator between the US and Ghana, with year-round daily service from JFK.[14]
- Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris: Schengen trips often use a one-stop connection, through Europe, Istanbul, Addis Ababa or a Gulf hub. That is perfectly ordinary for a Ghanaian itinerary.
For the Dutch or German file, the point is that the first entry into Schengen and the last exit fall on the dates you put in the form. Transit rules depend on your passport, so if the routing changes planes in a third country, check that country's airside transit rules for your nationality before you settle on it.

Example: an Osu teacher heading to Rotterdam
Say Abena teaches in Osu and wants to visit her sister in Rotterdam from 12 to 26 December. All her nights are in the Netherlands, so she books the Dutch desk at VFS Accra for 18 November, well inside the window of 15 days to six months.[2]
We would suggest she orders the reservation on 15 or 16 November, not in October when she first picks the dates. Her ACC–Amsterdam return, the invitation letter from her sister, the school's leave approval and the insurance certificate all show 12 to 26 December. If VFS moves her slot to early December, she simply orders a fresh one closer to the new date. Once the visa is in her passport, she buys whichever fare suits her. It does not have to be the same airline.
A second example: Tema couple, Germany and a UK side trip
Picture Kofi and Esi from Tema, planning ten days in Munich and four in London next August. Germany is the main Schengen stop, so the Schengen file goes to the German Embassy.[4] London needs its own UK visa through VFS.
One multi-city reservation covers the whole trip: Accra to Munich, Munich to London, London back to Accra. It goes into the German file to meet the "flight reservation for round-trip" item.[5] For the UK file we would leave it out, because UKVI has said it does not help.[7] They apply to the UK first, since the three-month UK window opens later than the six-month Schengen one, and then lodge the German file. The booking form totals the multi-city price before you commit.
How to order from Accra
- Decide the main destination and therefore which desk takes your Schengen file.
- Download that desk's checklist and read the flight item word for word.
- Complete our booking form : the route, your dates and each traveller, with names copied from the passport data pages.
- Pay $9 per passenger by card through the Razorpay checkout.
- Check your email about 10 minutes later, including the spam folder.
- Retrieve the PNR via the airline's Manage booking tool with your surname. Our verification guide walks through it.
Order gone quiet? The tracking page shows its status, and the pricing page lists other currencies.
When should you order it?
Ideally 48 to 72 hours before the appointment. A hold can survive up to two weeks; every airline fixes its own limit, sometimes shorter on particular fares. Ordering on the day you first pick your dates, a month ahead, makes it very likely the hold will be gone by the time the officer looks. Should the German Embassy run past its usual 14 days and request fresh travel dates, buy a replacement at that point.
What to bring to VFS or the embassy
- A printed copy of the reservation, all names readable.
- The PNR and airline noted on your copy of the cover letter.
- Matching dates on insurance, hotel or host letter and employer's leave approval.
- Your Ghana residence permit, if you are not Ghanaian, with enough validity left.
On the eve of the appointment, look the PNR up again on the airline's site. A moved schedule or a released hold is far easier to fix then than at the counter.
Mistakes we see from Accra applicants
- Paying an agent for a "visa ticket" with no airline reference. Ask for the PNR and check it yourself.
- Applying to the Dutch desk when most nights are in Germany. The main destination decides.
- Stapling a flight booking into a UK visit file and thinking it strengthens the case.
- Dates that drift between the reservation, the leave letter and the insurance.
- Using the word ticket for the reservation in your covering letter. Be precise.
Accra FAQ
Do you have an office in Accra?
No. DummyTicketPrice is an online service with no counter in Accra, Kumasi or any other city. Ordering, card payment through Razorpay and delivery all happen remotely; the PDF typically reaches your inbox inside ten minutes, ready to print at home or at a business centre close to VFS.
My reservation still says Kotoka. Will the embassy reject it?
It should not cause a problem. The government renamed the airport Accra International in February 2026 and confirmed that the code remains ACC. Airline systems may show the old or the new name for some time. Officers check the code, dates and passenger name, which stay the same either way.
Does the Dutch desk accept a reservation rather than a bought ticket?
Yes, on paper. A held seat under your own name, inbound and outbound, meets the Dutch tourism list, which plainly rules out any need to pay. Official guidance rarely gets clearer. The embassy still decides the application, so make sure every other document matches the reservation's dates.
What does the German Embassy in Accra want?
The embassy's visitor list wants a return flight reservation and spells out that buying the ticket is unnecessary. Apply at least 15 days and up to six months before travel, and allow around 14 days for processing, sometimes more. Its remit covers people living in Ghana, Liberia or Sierra Leone who are heading mainly to Germany.
Will a flight booking help my UK application?
Usually not. UKVI's supporting-documents guidance places them, transit aside, on its not-useful list for visitors. Spend the effort on bank statements, an employer letter and evidence of why you will come back to Ghana. If you transit the UK, a booking showing the onward flight is reasonable.
Can I pay in cedis or by mobile money?
We charge $9 per passenger, and Razorpay processes the payment by card. You need a card your bank has enabled for international online payments, and the bank handles conversion from cedis. We cannot take cash or mobile money, since we have no local office or agent to collect it.
I am Nigerian and live in Accra. Where do I apply?
Generally where you are legally resident, so Accra, with proof of that residence. Dutch rules expect your permit to run on for three months or more after you leave Schengen. Your reservation shows your Nigerian passport name and can start in Accra or Lagos, whichever matches how you will genuinely travel.
Can I board with it?
No. A live PNR holds the seat, yet no fare exists behind it, so check-in will turn it away. Once the visa is issued, buy a real ticket for your dates. You can choose any airline and fare you like.
Get your Accra reservation
No office, no queue: $9 a traveller, and a PNR the airline itself can show you.
Please note: a held booking supports an application but never wins it. Label it honestly and make sure it agrees with every other paper in the file.
