Czechia is one of the few Schengen states whose foreign ministry says, in its own general guidance, what kind of flight document it usually expects: "mostly air ticket reservation". The Embassy in New Delhi repeats the idea in its checklist, asking for a "flight reservation of return or round ticket". So the question for most applicants is not whether to buy a fare. It is how to make the reservation line up with a file the Czech consul reads closely: a cover letter with the whole route, insurance that covers the arrival and departure dates, and lodging in every country you pass through. This guide quotes the Czech wording for India and the Gulf, shows where each applies, and explains how we would build the flight part. The rules common to all Schengen countries sit in our Schengen visa flight reservation guide.
Czech Republic visa key facts for 2026

|---|---|
| Flight wording, India | "Flight reservation of return or round ticket", plus intra-Schengen travel if you visit several states.[5] |
| Ministry's general guidance | Proof of intent to leave Schengen is "mostly air ticket reservation / other reservation" plus proof of ties at home.[7] |
| Flight wording, UAE | "Copy of round-trip flight ticket or flight reservation with valid reservation code".[8] |
| Where Indian residents apply | Any VFS Global centre in India; New Delhi or Mumbai decides by state.[3][4] |
| Fee in India | €90 for adults, €45 for ages 6 to 12; the rupee amount is updated monthly.[6] |
| Decision time | Normally up to 15 calendar days, up to 45 in some cases; the Embassy suggests applying at least 3 weeks ahead.[4] |
| Insurance | Minimum €30,000 cover for every Schengen country, running from arrival day through departure day.[5] |
Who needs a Czech visa?
If you travel on an Indian passport, you need a Schengen visa for any short trip to Czechia. The Embassy in New Delhi takes applications from citizens or residents of India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka, though some of those apply through other countries' embassies.[4] In the Gulf, residents of most nationalities need one too. Emirati citizens are the exception for short, non-profit stays; the Czech Embassy in Abu Dhabi says they need visas only for long-term stays.[9]
Holders of a valid residence permit from another Schengen state usually travel to Prague without a separate visa. For everyone else, Czechia should be the sole or main destination before you apply here.
What the Indian checklist says about flights
The Embassy's "Checklist for Schengen visa" is short and specific on transport. Under documents for all applicants, it lists: "Proof of means of transport: Flight reservation of return or round ticket. If the applicant is travelling to several Schengen States, proof of intra-Schengen flight reservation, train itinerary or car rental."[5]
Three things stand out. The word chosen is "reservation", not purchase. The return leg is required. And travel between countries counts as transport too, so a Prague and Vienna trip needs the train or bus shown, not just the long-haul flights.
A second line connects to the flight. The checklist asks for a "Cover Letter signed by the applicant explaining the purpose of visit to the Czech Republic and entire travel plan (itinerary)".[5] Your reservation and that letter are read side by side, so write the cities and dates in the letter in the same order as the booking.
How we read it: the Indian checklist is met by a genuine round-trip reservation plus proof of any Schengen-internal legs. A non-refundable ticket bought before the decision adds risk and is not asked for.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' general visa page backs this up. It groups the flight under "document proving intention to leave Schengen", which it describes as "mostly air ticket reservation / other reservation" together with proof of ties to your home country.[7] In other words, the flight is one half of the argument that you will go home. Your job, leave letter and bank history are the other half.
What Czech missions in the Gulf ask for
Gulf applicants submit at VFS Global centres, and the checklists there are written with residents in mind. Wording differs slightly by post:
- Embassy in Abu Dhabi, tourism checklist: "Copy of round-trip flight ticket or flight reservation with valid reservation code or with number of ticket, if already paid".[8]
- Harmonised list for the UAE, published by the Czech Embassy: "Copy of flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight."[10]
- Embassy in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Yemen): the Embassy points applicants to the Ministry's general Schengen pages, which use the "mostly air ticket reservation" wording above.[7][11]
- Embassy in Doha: Schengen applications go to VFS Global in Doha; the Embassy also links to the Ministry's general pages rather than a separate flight rule.[12]
The Abu Dhabi line is helpful because it separates the two cases. A reservation must carry a "valid reservation code", which is the PNR. The list treats payment as optional, so nobody is asked to buy a fare first.
For Kuwait, the Czech Embassy's visa section now sends readers to the Ministry's general information for foreigners, and we did not find a Kuwait-specific Czech checklist.[13] Use the VFS checklist you are given at booking, and expect the ministry's reservation wording to apply.
Will a held booking do, or must you pay?
On Czech wording, a held booking fits. This table pairs each source with its practical meaning.
| Source | Exact wording | Held reservation? |
|---|---|---|
| Embassy, New Delhi | "Flight reservation of return or round ticket"[5] | Yes. "Reservation" is the word on the list. |
| Ministry of Foreign Affairs | "Mostly air ticket reservation / other reservation"[7] | Yes, as part of showing you will leave. |
| Embassy, Abu Dhabi | Ticket or reservation "with valid reservation code"[8] | Yes, if the PNR is printed and live. |
| UAE harmonised list | "Flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight"[10] | Yes, with the return leg on it. |
| Wording that says "paid" or "confirmed" | Not on any Czech list we read | Perhaps not. Check with the embassy, or choose a fare you can refund. |
The Ministry adds a reminder that matters after the visa is issued. A visa does not by itself guarantee entry, and border officers can ask for documents on "accommodation, finances, return air ticket etc."[7] By then you should be holding the real ticket you bought after approval. The reservation was for the application, not the border.
Which Czech office decides your Indian application?
Residents of India apply at any VFS Global centre. The Embassy says new slots are released every second Monday of the month for appointments in the following month.[4] The deciding office depends on your state.
| Czech office | Area for Schengen visas |
|---|---|
| Embassy, New Delhi | Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal. Union territories: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, as the Embassy lists them[3] |
| Consulate General, Mumbai | Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat; Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu[3] |
Note the timing. Slots for, say, December appear on the second Monday of November. If you take one for 20 December and fly on 5 January, your reservation should be booked around 16 to 18 December, not on the day the slot opened in November.
The fee table lists €90 or the rupee equivalent for an adult Schengen visa and €45 for a child from 6 to under 12, with rupee figures revised each month by exchange rate.[6] VFS charges its own service fee on top.
Is Czechia your main destination?
You apply to the Czech Republic when it is the only Schengen country you visit, or when it gets more nights or is the main purpose. If two countries tie on nights, the one you enter first is responsible.[1][2]
Two worked examples. Prague four nights, Český Krumlov one, Vienna two: five Czech nights against two Austrian, so Czechia. Budapest three, Vienna two, Prague two: Hungary leads and should take the file, which our Hungary visa guide covers. If Poland is the larger share, read our Poland visa guide instead.
For a Czech-led trip that crosses borders, the checklist wants each internal leg shown and lodging proved "in each of them".[5] A multi-city or open-jaw reservation handles the long-haul legs; trains or buses between Prague and Vienna can be shown with a separate booking.
What a Czech-ready reservation should show
- A round trip from where you live, because the Indian list names a "return or round ticket".[5]
- The booking code in plain view. Abu Dhabi's list asks for a "valid reservation code".[8]
- Passport spellings for every person in the cover letter, children included.
- Dates covered by insurance from the day you land to the day you leave; the Indian list says the policy must include "the date of arrival and departure".[5]
- Dates matching your hotel bookings in Czechia and any other country. Nights you have not booked yet can be filled using our hotel booking for visa.
- Dates matching the employer's approval of leave, which the checklist lists for employed applicants.[5]
Preparing the flight part of a Czech file, in order
- Tally nights per country and confirm Czechia leads.
- Check which Czech office covers your state or, in the Gulf, your country of residence.
- Take a VFS slot and note it; in India, slots appear on the second Monday of each month.
- Write the cover letter with the full itinerary in date order.
- Make the flight reservation in the final few days before your VFS visit. Our booking page displays the hold length up front.
- Look the PNR up on the airline's "Manage booking" page and match it with the form. Our walkthrough on verifying a booking before submission helps.
- Bring paper. The New Delhi checklist asks for documents "in the given order in original", with copies if you want originals back.[5]
How far ahead to reserve
Expect a hold of up to two weeks on anything we book for you; the carrier sets the actual cut-off. For a Czech application that means booking close to the appointment, and certainly not a month ahead.
The Embassy itself advises lodging at least three weeks before departure, because the file must reach the Embassy 15 days before the trip at the latest.[4] Take a family flying out on 10 May. A VFS appointment around 10 to 15 April, a reservation made around 7 to 12 April, and a decision normally inside 15 days leaves a sensible margin. If the Embassy asks for more papers, you can rebook the same flights.
The UAE checklist makes the risk explicit for late applicants: you sign a declaration that the decision may not arrive in time if you apply less than 15 days before the trip.[8]
Applying for Czechia from the Gulf
| Country of residence | Where to submit | Notes from the official page |
|---|---|---|
| UAE | VFS Global, for the Embassy in Abu Dhabi | Residence permit valid 3 months beyond your Schengen exit; NOC from employer with approved leave; fees in AED by card or cash.[8][9] |
| Qatar | VFS Global, Doha | Direct embassy appointments only for set categories such as EU family members.[12] |
| Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman | Embassy in Riyadh (its jurisdiction) | Fees by Czech-currency card or SAR cash at a monthly rate; appointments via the Embassy's booking page.[11] |
| Kuwait | Czech Embassy in Kuwait; its site mentions a renewed Visa Application Centre | No Kuwait-specific checklist found; follow the Ministry's general rules and the centre's list.[13] |
Wherever you are, start and end the reservation in your country of residence. The UAE checklist also says the accommodation booking "should cover the whole period of stay in the Schengen Area".[8] So your first hotel night should be your arrival date and your last should end on the morning you fly home. Indians working in the Gulf can find the wider paperwork on our Gulf-based Indian expats page.
Where Czech files tend to go wrong
- Only the long-haul flights shown on a Prague, Vienna and Budapest trip, with no internal transport.[5]
- A cover letter without the itinerary, when the checklist asks for the "entire travel plan".[5]
- Insurance that ends the day before the return flight.
- Documents not in English or Czech on a UAE file; the declaration says missing translations count as missing documents.[8]
- Applying at the last minute, inside 15 days of travel.[4]
- A reservation without a visible code, which Abu Dhabi asks for by name.[8]
Will the Czech Embassy look up your booking?
The Czech posts do not say how they verify flight documents. What they do say is that they may ask for more papers or an interview, by phone or in person.[8] A real booking code can be checked on the airline's site with the surname. A made-up one cannot, and the Visa Code treats false supporting documents as grounds for refusal.[2] We only issue genuine reservations; we never alter or invent ticket documents.
Czech visa flight reservation: common questions
Is a flight reservation enough for a Czech tourist visa from India?
Yes. The Embassy in New Delhi lists "flight reservation of return or round ticket" as proof of transport, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes the usual document as an air ticket reservation. Keep it round trip, add intra-Schengen legs if you visit other countries, and buy the real ticket after approval.
I live in Bengaluru. Does Delhi or Mumbai handle my Czech visa?
Karnataka belongs to the Consulate General in Mumbai's area. You can still go to any VFS Global centre in India to submit; the papers are then sent to the competent office. Slots for the next month open on the second Monday of each month, so plan the booking date around that.
Do I need to show the train from Prague to Vienna?
Yes, if Austria is part of a Czech-led trip. The checklist asks for "proof of intra-Schengen flight reservation, train itinerary or car rental" when you travel to several Schengen states. A rail booking or printed itinerary with dates is enough to show the leg clearly.
What does "valid reservation code" mean on the UAE checklist?
It means the airline booking reference, usually six letters and numbers, that opens the booking on the airline's website. The Abu Dhabi checklist wants that code printed on the reservation. Check that the code works before printing.
How long does a Czech Schengen visa take?
The Embassy in New Delhi says a decision normally takes up to 15 calendar days, extendable to 45 in individual cases. It recommends applying at least three weeks before departure, because your file must reach the Embassy no later than 15 days before the trip.
Can I land in Frankfurt with a Czech visa?
Yes. A Czech Schengen visa allows entry through any Schengen external border. The point is that Czechia is your main destination as declared. Be ready at the border to show your onward plans, return ticket, hotel bookings and money, as the Ministry warns officers may ask.
Price and booking
From us you receive a live airline booking under your name, with a PNR you can check yourself, on the dates and route you choose. It is a reservation only; it is not a purchased fare and it cannot be used to fly.
Those figures apply per person and are the same for a single leg or a return. Routes with extra stops cost the same amount for each pair of legs, as dummy ticket price explains. UPI, cards and netbanking are accepted at checkout via Razorpay. Most orders land by email in around ten minutes, and the order tracking page keeps you updated. To compare our service with holding a seat directly, see flight reservation for visa; for other destinations try requirements by country, and for visa-free stops that need an exit plan see onward ticket.
