Manama packs most of Bahrain's visa traffic into a few square kilometres. The German-run VFS centre sits in the Diplomatic Area, the Spanish one in a Seef mall, and both are a short drive for most of the city. Being close together hides a trap: the centres follow different rulebooks on your CPR and your flight. What follows takes each mission serving Manama residents in turn, quotes its own words on flights and shows how to order a matching reservation. Everything is online. We have no office in Bahrain.
Manama in brief
| Item | Detail (last checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Airport | Bahrain International Airport (BAH), on Muharraq island.[1] |
| Germany (and represented states) | VFS Global, Diplomatic Commercial Tower, 18th floor; every applicant submits there.[2] |
| Netherlands | Lodged at the German VFS centre in Manama.[5] |
| Spain | BLS International, Al-Aali Mall, Gate 1, Office 1138, Seef.[6] |
| Italy | VFS Global Italy Visa Application Centre in Bahrain.[8] |
| France | Embassy visa service in Manama; files received at VFS Global.[9] |
| United Kingdom | VFS Global centre in the Diplomatic Commercial Office Towers (last announced by GOV.UK in 2014).[10] |
| Our price | $9 for each traveller, single or return, settled online via Razorpay |
How long must your CPR and residence permit last?
Start here, because it decides whether you can apply at all, and the answer depends on the embassy.
- Germany (VFS Manama): your BHR residence permit must stay valid "at least until the date of expiry" of the visa you request, or the end of the journey.[3]
- Spain (BLS Seef): "Bahrain residence permit (for non-GCC nationals) must be valid at least minimum 3 months from the date of return."[7]
- Netherlands: people who live in Bahrain apply in Manama; if you have been resident for less than six months, you may be allowed to apply elsewhere.[5]
So the German leaflet is relatively relaxed and the Spanish one is not. Imagine your residence ends on 15 January 2027 and you want a week in Seville from 2 to 9 December 2026. Germany would be satisfied; BLS would not, since three months past 9 December is 9 March. A renewal before you book the appointment saves a wasted visit to Seef.
What the Manama checklists say about flights
Here the German and Dutch wording is generous, and Spain's is stricter.
| Mission | Where you submit in Bahrain | Exact flight wording | Does a held reservation fit? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany, tourism | VFS, Diplomatic Area[2] | "flight reservation or travel itinerary"[3] | Yes, matches the wording |
| Germany, airport transit | VFS, Diplomatic Area | "flight reservation or travel itinerary"[4] | Yes, but transit files need the onward leg shown clearly |
| Netherlands | German VFS centre[5] | A reservation; "You do not need a paid travel ticket."[11] | Yes |
| Spain | BLS, Seef[6] | "Confirmed flight reservations/booking", with a booking reference or ticket number[7] | Possibly; "confirmed" may mean ticketed at the counter |
| United Kingdom | VFS[10] | GOV.UK tells visitors not to rely on "flight bookings (unless transiting)"[12] | Not needed |
| United States | US Embassy interview | Do not buy tickets before the visa[13] | Optional at most |
Italy and France do not publish a flight line on the pages we could open. Italy's embassy page sends applicants to the national "Il visto per l'Italia" portal for document lists, and France generates yours on France-Visas.[8][9] Follow whatever those tools produce for your profile.
A practical point for Italy: the embassy in Manama handles the decision, but VFS runs the intake, and its call centre is the place to ask about documents for your nationality.[8] For France, the advice we found was to apply at least 20 days before departure, which is a little more generous than the Schengen minimum of 15.[9] In both cases we would wait until the tool or the centre has told you what transport evidence it wants, and only then order anything.

Inside the German tourism leaflet for Bahrain
Because the German centre also takes Dutch files and those of other represented states, its leaflet is the one most Manama residents end up reading. Beyond the flight line, it asks for:
- Travel medical cover for the whole Schengen area, minimum €30,000 including repatriation; policies attached to credit cards do not count.[3]
- A valid hotel booking with the full address and booking reference.
- A letter from your local employer or sponsor stating your position, start date, salary, leave dates and purpose of travel.
- At least three months of personal bank statements from Bahrain.
- Fees paid in cash in Bahraini dinars at submission, according to the leaflet.
The timing rules come from the embassy itself: lodge the file between six months and 15 calendar days before departure, and allow up to 15 days for the answer, 45 in exceptional cases.[2]
Applying for Spain at Seef
The BLS centre in Al-Aali Mall accepts files from 09:00 to 15:00 and hands passports back between 15:00 and 17:00, Sunday to Thursday.[6] Only travellers departing within the next 180 days may apply.[7]
Spain's "confirmed" wording is the line we would think hardest about. A held reservation has a real booking reference, which is one of the two things the checklist names. Whether BLS or the consulate treats it as confirmed is their call, not ours. If you are told at the counter that only a ticket will do, a refundable fare is the honest fix.
Only changing planes in Germany? Read the transit leaflet
Flying to the Americas through Frankfurt or Munich? You may wonder whether the German centre needs to see you at all. The embassy's transit leaflet begins with reassurance: most travellers need no visa to change planes in Germany or the states it represents.[4] Whether you do depends on your passport and, sometimes, on residence in a third country.
The leaflet names the German airports with an international transit area: Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich, with time windows at some of them. Cologne/Bonn, for instance, allows transit only between 4:30 and 23:00.[4] It also warns that leaving the transit area, for example to change terminal, means you need a full Schengen visa rather than an airport transit one.
If you do need an airport transit visa, the leaflet asks for a "flight reservation or travel itinerary", a Bahrain residence permit valid at least until the visa would expire, and the usual photos and copies.[4] For a transit file, show the whole journey, from BAH through the German hub to the final destination, on one reservation. A visa officer looking at a transit application wants to see that you will leave on the same day. More on this in our transit visa guide.
Living in Riffa, Isa Town or Hamad Town?
Bahrain is compact, and the centres we found are all in Manama: the Diplomatic Area for the German-run centre and Seef for BLS. The German Embassy says every client submits at the VFS centre in Manama, and the Dutch site directs Bahrain residents to the same place.[2][5] So a family in Riffa follows exactly the advice on this page; the only difference is the drive in. Residents on Muharraq, close to the airport, have their own page linked below.
BAH, Gulf Air and the 2026 disruption
Manama's flights leave from Bahrain International Airport on neighbouring Muharraq island; our Muharraq page covers residents who live by the airport. The home carrier is Gulf Air, and its manage-booking page lets you look up a PNR with your surname.[14] Our Gulf Air guide walks through that lookup.
This year has been far from normal. During 2026 Gulf Air ran part of its network from Dammam in Saudi Arabia for a time; its media centre announced Cairo, Casablanca and Chennai being added to these "Temporary Dammam Operations".[15] We cannot tell you which routes are flying from BAH on the day you read this. Our advice is simple. Before ordering, search the route on the airline's own site for your dates. If it will not sell you a seat, we cannot hold one.

Example: an Adliya resident applying for Germany
Take a Pakistani accountant renting in Adliya, his residence valid until August 2027. He has a VFS slot in the Diplomatic Area on 20 November for ten days in Munich around Christmas.
Everything on the German list is ordinary for him: employer letter with leave dates, three months of statements, a Munich hotel booking, insurance. We would hold a BAH to Munich return on about 17 November, his name spelt as in the passport. Because the leaflet asks for a "flight reservation or travel itinerary", nothing more is needed on flights.[3] He also confirms that the routing he chose is actually being sold that week.
Example: a Juffair couple and a Dutch holiday
An Indian couple in Juffair wants Amsterdam in April. The Dutch site sends them to the German-run centre, not to a separate Dutch one.[5] Their checklist is the Netherlands tourism list, which explicitly says no paid ticket is needed.[11]
One PNR, two names, ordered three days before the slot. Their hotel and insurance show the same arrival and departure. If the decision drags past the hold and the embassy asks about it, they order a fresh reservation. Nothing more complicated than that.
What to bring to the Diplomatic Area appointment
For the flight side of a German or Dutch file, keep it simple and tidy.
- The reservation PDF, printed on one side, with every traveller named.
- The PNR noted on your covering letter so you can quote it if asked.
- Cash in dinars for the fee, since the leaflet says fees are paid in BHD cash at submission.[3]
- A copy of your CPR and residence permit, both listed on the German leaflet.
On the morning of the appointment, look the booking up once more on the airline's site. If anything has changed, you still have time to sort it.
Ordering a reservation from Manama
- Check residence validity against the rule of the country you are applying to.
- Pick a route that is on sale on the airline's own site.
- Complete our booking form, copying names from the passport, not the CPR card.
- Pay $9 per passenger by card through Razorpay. Got an Indian bank account? Then UPI or netbanking are options as well.
- Read the email that arrives in about 10 minutes, then look the PNR up on the airline's site. Our verification guide shows how.
Chase an order on order tracking; currency options are on the price page.
How far ahead should you order in Bahrain?
Two or three days before the appointment is our sweet spot. Holds last up to two weeks, though the carrier picks the actual length. Since Germany only accepts files 15 or more days before travel and may take up to 15 days to decide, ordering on the day you book the slot is usually too early.[2]
Things to avoid in Manama
- Turning up at Seef without checking the CPR date. Spain's three-month rule is stricter than Germany's.
- Looking for a Dutch centre. Dutch files go through the German one.
- Using a route that is suspended. Check the live schedule first.
- Editing a PDF yourself. If anything is wrong, ask us to correct it.
- Presenting a reservation as a ticket. It is not one, and you cannot fly on it.
Manama FAQ
Where do Manama residents apply for a Dutch Schengen visa?
Netherlands Worldwide sends Bahrain residents to the VFS Global centre run for Germany in Manama; no Dutch-only centre exists. The paperwork, though, follows the Dutch tourism checklist, which wants a booking in your name for the Schengen trip and says outright that payment is not required.
Is a held reservation enough for Spain from Bahrain?
Maybe. BLS asks for confirmed flight reservations showing a booking reference or ticket number. Our reservation carries a booking reference, but the word "confirmed" leaves room for the centre to ask for more. If that happens, buy a refundable fare. We would not promise either outcome.
Can I order a reservation from Dammam instead of BAH?
You can hold any route that is genuinely on sale, including one from Dammam, provided it matches how you really plan to travel and you can explain it. For most Manama residents BAH is the natural departure point. Whatever you choose, the hotel and insurance dates must line up.
What does a reservation cost from Bahrain?
$9 per passenger, for one way or return. A multi-city itinerary costs $9 for every pair of legs. Hotel reservations cost extra, per stay and per traveller. Checkout is handled by Razorpay: international cards are fine, and Indian account holders can use UPI or netbanking.
Is a flight booking needed for the US interview in Manama?
No. Your DS-160 only records planned dates, and American guidance is to wait for the visa before you spend on tickets. A reservation can help you explain a short, defined trip, but it is entirely optional. Keep it described as a reservation if an officer asks.
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Bahrain?
No. We are an online service. You order, pay and receive the document by email without visiting anyone, so living in Seef, Riffa or Muharraq makes no difference. Questions go to our WhatsApp line, staffed every day of the week; orders can be followed on the tracking page.
How long will the reservation stay live?
Up to 2 weeks; the airline sets the exact time, and it can be shorter on some fares. Order within a few days of your VFS or BLS appointment rather than when the slot is confirmed. Should processing drag on and the embassy request a current itinerary, ordering a replacement takes minutes.

Please note: no flight document can make a visa decision for you. Describe the reservation honestly and match it to your other papers; the embassy decides.
