Air Arabia is the airline many Gulf residents and visitors from South Asia and North Africa fly on a budget. Its bookings behave a little differently from those of full-service carriers. The lookup needs a date as well as a name, cancellations often return travel credit rather than cash, and there is a published way to hold a fare for a short time before paying. If you're putting an Air Arabia flight into a visa application, or holding one to show at check-in, those details decide whether your document helps. This guide sets out Air Arabia's own rules, the UAE entry rules that most often apply, and an honest view of when a reservation is the right tool and when it isn't.

| Can you hold a fare before paying? | Air Arabia's payment page lists "Hold your fare for up to 24 hours", alongside cash payment at sales offices, partner agents and other outlets.[3] |
| Cancellation deadline | Basic and Value fares up to 24 hours before departure; Ultimate up to 8 hours.[1] |
| Refund or credit? | Credit for future use, or a refund to the original payment method. The cash-refund route is not available on Basic fares. A cancellation fee is deducted.[1] |

| Our price | AED 33 per passenger in the UAE; ₹699 in India; $9 worldwide. |
Can you hold an Air Arabia fare without paying?
For a short time, yes. Air Arabia's payment options page lists a way to hold your fare for up to 24 hours, and it accepts cash at sales offices, partner travel agents, banks, exchange houses and other outlets.[3] The same page lists UPI and Indian debit and credit cards among the accepted methods, so the airline is clearly set up for buyers in India too.
A 24-hour hold is useful for real travel. For a visa file it is rarely long enough. Visa appointments are usually booked days or weeks ahead, and a document that has expired by the time it is read helps nobody. Picture a Sharjah resident with a Schengen appointment on a Wednesday who holds a fare on Sunday: the 24 hours are over by Monday, two days before anyone at the visa centre sees the file. That's why we time our reservations around the appointment. The hold window for your booking is displayed before you pay, and we recommend ordering a day or two before you submit.
Is a reservation enough for a UAE visit visa?
Read the wording carefully. Among the terms of Dubai's single-entry tourist visa, the GDRFA asks for "a travel ticket to continue his journey or a ticket to leave UAE".[6] Notice the word ticket. A hold might fall short of that requirement, and a reservation should never be passed off as a ticket. If your sponsor, travel agent or airline asks for proof of exit, ask them directly what they accept.
Many visitors don't apply through GDRFA at all. The UAE government portal notes you can apply through airlines, licensed travel agents or hotels; airlines set their own conditions, one of which is flying with them.[8]
Some Indian citizens can skip the advance visa altogether. For Indian nationals, the GDRFA runs a visa-on-arrival service: a first stay of 14 days for people already holding a US visit visa or green card, or UK or EU residence, provided passport and that document each have at least six months left.[7]
Our Dubai and UAE visa guide goes through each route in more depth.
What is OK to Board, and who needs it?
It's a note added to your Air Arabia reservation confirming your UAE visa has been seen. Air Arabia says passengers flying from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh to the UAE with a copy of a UAE visa or e-visa need the "Ok to Board" message on the booking; those carrying the original visa document don't.[5]
- The sponsor or a representative takes the original visa to an Air Arabia office, where staff verify it and add the message.
- Air Arabia lists a fee of AED 15–20.
- It must be done at least 24 hours before departure.
This applies to the real ticket you fly on, not to a reservation used in a visa file. We mention it because travellers often discover it at the airport, and it's worth knowing in advance.
Applying from the UAE for Europe or the UK?
A reservation with a live PNR, starting and ending in your country of residence. AED 33 per passenger, emailed in about 10 minutes.
Which visa applications involve Air Arabia flights?
Gulf residents applying for Schengen. If you live in the UAE and apply for a Schengen visa there, your reservation normally starts and ends in the UAE. EU rules ask you to apply at least 15 days and at most six months before travel, with a decision usually in 15 days.[9] Many consulates also look at how long your UAE residence permit runs beyond the trip; our Schengen visa guide lists their rules.
Visitors to the UAE. Covered above. The ticket wording in the GDRFA terms is the key point.
Trips from the other hubs. With bases in Casablanca, Alexandria and Karachi as well as the UAE, Air Arabia's network serves travellers in Morocco, Egypt and Pakistan too.[4] Check the current route map on airarabia.com before building an itinerary around a specific city pair.
How do you look up an Air Arabia booking?
- Open airarabia.com and choose Manage Booking.[2]
- Enter the Booking Reference (PNR) exactly as printed on your document.
- Enter the Contact Person Last Name. This is usually the surname of the person whose contact details are on the booking, which may not be you if someone else booked.
- Select the Departure Date of the first flight.[1]
- Read the result and match names, flights and dates against your application.
Air Arabia's own help text says that if a booking can't be retrieved, check that the details match the itinerary; some special fares can only be handled by customer support or the travel agent who booked.[1] The date field trips people up more than anything: use the departure date, not the date you booked. If your reservation is held on another airline, use that airline's page instead. More help in verifying a PNR on the airline website.
Air Arabia hold, bought fare or reservation from us?
| Option | How long it lasts | What you pay first | If plans change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air Arabia fare hold | Up to 24 hours[3] | As shown when you choose the hold | It lapses if unpaid |
| Bought Basic fare | Until you fly | Full fare | Cancellation fee; no cash refund on Basic, credit instead[1] |
| Bought Value or Ultimate fare | Until you fly | Full fare | Fee deducted; credit or refund to card[1] |
| Reservation from us | Hold window shown before payment | AED 33 / ₹699 / $9 | Order a new one for new dates |
Our take: if you will definitely fly Air Arabia and the dates are fixed, buy the fare you want. If you only need to show a plan to a consulate, a reservation costs less than a cancellation fee.
Living in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman or Kuwait?
The same logic applies across the Gulf: show a trip that leaves from and returns to the country on your residence permit. If you live in Riyadh and fly Air Arabia through Sharjah to reach Europe, a reservation can show that routing, as long as it's a trip you'd really take. A long, awkward connection that no one would choose looks odd, so keep layovers sensible.
Residence-permit validity matters as much as the flights. Several Schengen consulates in the Gulf want your permit to run well past your return date, and the exact margin differs between missions. Check your consulate's own list, and pick return dates that leave room. Our guide for Gulf-based Indian expats gathers those rules.
After the visa: buying the real fare
Once the visa arrives, buy the fare that suits you. With Air Arabia, choose the fare family with care, because cancellation deadlines and refund options differ between Basic, Value and Ultimate. If your plans may still move, a fare that allows a refund to your card is worth the extra cost. And if you're flying to the UAE from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh on a copy of a UAE visa, arrange OK to Board at least a day before departure.
Getting names right on an Air Arabia booking
Use the passport spelling for every traveller, and pay attention to the contact person, since that surname is what opens the booking online.[1] For family files, put everyone applying on the same reservation so their applications line up. If a passport has a single name, tell us exactly how it reads; we'll follow the airline's format, and you should keep the visa form identical to the passport.
When should a UAE resident book?
A day or two before the appointment, for flights on the dates you really plan to travel. Say you apply for France at a Dubai visa centre on 9 December for a trip from 20 December to 3 January. Order on 7 or 8 December, check the PNR, and make sure hotel bookings, insurance and your leave letter all say 20 December to 3 January.
Which mistakes do we see most?
- Relying on a 24-hour hold for an appointment several days away.
- Presenting a reservation as a ticket where the rule asks for a ticket.
- Booking the wrong start city, for example India instead of your UAE residence.
- Typing the booking date instead of the departure date in the lookup.
- Forgetting OK to Board on the real ticket when travelling on a copy of a UAE visa.[5]
Ordering a reservation for an Air Arabia route
- Go to the booking form and enter cities and dates.
- Enter each passenger's name as in the passport, or upload the passport to fill it in.
- If you'd like Air Arabia, say so in the notes. Holds depend on the airline and route, so WhatsApp us first if the carrier is important.
- Pay through Razorpay by UPI, card or netbanking. Watch progress on order tracking; the PDF normally arrives in about 10 minutes.
The fee is charged for each traveller and covers a one-way or return route; every additional pair of legs on a multi-city plan is charged once more. See all prices, read how a flight reservation for visa works, and add a hotel booking if your checklist needs one. Travelling visa-free somewhere and asked for an exit flight? Start with our onward ticket page.
Straight talk: we issue genuine reservations, never edited or invented tickets. A reservation is not a paid fare, and the consulate, the immigration authority or the airline makes the final call.
Air Arabia reservation FAQ
What details do I need to find an Air Arabia booking?
Three: the booking reference (PNR), the contact person's last name and the departure date. Air Arabia's retrieval form asks for all three. If the booking still doesn't open, check the surname spelling and the date, and remember that some special fares can only be managed through customer support or the agent who booked.
Can I hold an Air Arabia fare for my visa appointment?
Air Arabia lists a fare hold of up to 24 hours. That suits someone who needs a day to arrange payment, but most visa appointments are further away than that. If you need a reservation that is current on appointment day, book one close to the date and check it before you go.
Will Dubai accept a reservation instead of a return ticket?
GDRFA's terms for a single-entry tourist visa mention a ticket to continue the journey or to leave the UAE. Because a reservation hasn't been paid for, it could be judged short of that. Ask whoever is processing your visa, whether that is an airline, hotel, agent or GDRFA, what proof of exit they accept.
Do I need OK to Board if I hold the original UAE visa?
No. According to Air Arabia, OK to Board is needed by passengers from India, Pakistan or Bangladesh travelling to the UAE on a copy of a UAE visa or e-visa. Passengers carrying the original visa document don't need it. Where needed, it must be added at least 24 hours before departure.
If I cancel an Air Arabia ticket, do I get cash back?
It depends on the fare. Air Arabia offers travel credit or a refund to the original payment method, minus the cancellation fee, but the refund option is not available on Basic fares. Basic and Value fares can be cancelled up to 24 hours before departure, and Ultimate up to 8 hours before.
Should a UAE resident's reservation start in India?
Usually not. If you live in the UAE and apply there for a Schengen or UK visa, officers expect you to return to the UAE, so the reservation should normally start and end there. Showing a return to India instead can raise questions about your residence unless your trip genuinely ends there.
How much is a reservation in the Gulf?
In the UAE it is AED 33 for each traveller. Saudi residents pay SAR 34, Qatar QAR 33, Oman OMR 3.5 and Kuwait KWD 2.75, for one way or return alike. India is ₹699 and most other countries $9. Multi-city routes cost one price per pair of legs.
