Dummy Ticket for Visa in Suva: Embassies, VFS Desks and Flight Wording for People Living in Fiji's Capital

Suva residents can get a $9 held flight booking with a live PNR for each traveller, paid by card and emailed as a PDF in roughly 10 minutes. The capital hosts the US Embassy's visa section, an Australian visa centre and VFS desks for Germany and Denmark. Germany's checklist lists a "flight reservation"; the US says wait for the visa before buying flights.

Suva is where Fiji's visa paperwork actually happens. The embassies sit along Princes Road and around the city centre, the visa centres are a short walk from the bus station, and people come in from Nausori, Nasinu and Lami for appointments that last twenty minutes. This page is for anyone who lives in or near the capital and is applying for a visa to somewhere else: Fijian citizens, and the Indian, Filipino and other expatriate teachers, nurses, engineers and NGO staff who work here. We set out which offices in Suva handle which countries, what their own pages say about flights, and how a held booking fits. We sell online only; DummyTicketPrice has no counter in Suva.

If you live in Nadi, Lautoka, Labasa or on an outer island, our Fiji-wide guide deals with travelling in for appointments and with the online-only routes. If you are a visitor coming into Fiji, the rules you need are in our Fiji entry guide.

Which offices in Suva handle your visa?

Fewer than you might hope, which is why it pays to know exactly who does what before you queue anywhere.

The United States runs a full visa section at its embassy on Princes Road. It describes itself as processing every visa category for its consular district, which covers Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, Tuvalu, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.[1] Suva is therefore one of the few places in the South Pacific where you can sit a US visa interview without flying abroad.

Australia lists a visa application centre on Cumming Street in its High Commission's immigration contacts.[4] The High Commission itself is clear that the Department of Home Affairs decides visas and that its own staff cannot help with general visa questions.[5] In practice you lodge online and deal with the centre only for the steps it is asked to do.

Germany has no visa section in Fiji. Its embassy in Wellington says VFS Global runs a centre in Suva on its behalf, and that the same centre takes applications for Hungary, which Germany represents here.[6] Using the centre is voluntary: you may book an appointment directly with the embassy in Wellington instead.[6] For most Suva residents a flight to New Zealand costs far more than the VFS fee, so the local desk wins.

Denmark also uses VFS Global in Suva, with the decision made in Bangkok.[8] Expect the file to travel, and allow for that in your timing.

Canada and the UK both run through VFS. VFS's Canada page for Fiji gives Level 5, Tappoo City as the centre's address.[11] For the UK, the most recent government notice we found is from 2014, when the centre moved to Tappoo City.[9] That is old, so confirm the current UK location when the online form offers you an appointment.

Japan takes applications at its embassy in Suva, in person, and its visa page lists a proposed flight itinerary among the papers for a tourist trip.[12]

What do the Suva offices write about flights?

The wording varies a lot, from "please don't buy anything yet" to "include a reservation". Here it is side by side.

One rule covers every row. Should the paper you are given ask for a "confirmed" or "paid" ticket, believe it. A held booking might fall short of that, and a refundable fare protects you better.

Is a flight booking needed at the Princes Road interview?

No. All the DS-160 wants is your expected dates. On fares, the State Department's line is simple: wait until the visa is granted.[3] We would not sell you anything for this interview, and we mean that.

What matters more for Suva residents is being in the right queue. The embassy's district covers you as a Fiji resident, so you are booking where you live, which is what consular officers expect.[1] The embassy's contact page gives the visa section's email address and phone line, which are the places to ask about appointment problems rather than a Facebook group.[2]

If you still want a printout that shows a defined trip, say for a short conference in Honolulu, a reservation made a day or two before the interview does no harm, as long as you describe it as a reservation if anyone asks.

Applying for a Schengen visa from Suva

For most Suva residents, a European trip means either Germany through VFS or another Schengen state that has its own arrangement. Your main destination, measured in nights, decides where you apply; our guide to choosing the right Schengen country explains the rule.

The German route. Wellington's visit checklist puts a "flight reservation, rail tickets, others" line on the list, alongside proof of accommodation, a covering letter with your whole travel plan, insurance and three months of bank statements.[7] That checklist was written mainly with New Zealand residents in mind and is dated July 2018, so ask VFS in Suva for any Fiji-specific version before your appointment. The wording on flights is the friendly kind: a reservation is named, and a paid ticket is not demanded.

The Danish route. Denmark's page for the region lists the Suva VFS centre and says case processing happens at the embassy in Bangkok.[8] Because the file travels, we would give it extra time and keep the reservation order close to the appointment rather than early.

Whichever Schengen state you choose, Brussels sets the outer limits: six months before you fly at the earliest, 15 days before at the latest.[17] For a file decided in Wellington or Bangkok, we'd aim for six to eight weeks ahead, not the minimum.

Australia and New Zealand from Suva

These two are the trips most Suva families actually make, and both start online. For New Zealand, Fiji residents lodge visitor applications online, as INZ requires of Pacific Islands Forum countries.[13] Australia's High Commission sends you to Home Affairs for the application itself.[5]

Neither of these files depends on a flight booking. Ties to Suva, your job, your money and your reason for going do the heavy lifting. A reservation can still help the officer see dates that line up with a wedding or a graduation, and we explain where it fits in the New Zealand visa guide and the Australia visitor visa guide. New Zealand's border rules for onward travel are covered separately in our New Zealand onward ticket guide.

Should your itinerary start at Nausori or Nadi?

Start it where you will genuinely fly from. For most international trips that is Nadi, with a domestic hop first.

Nausori is around 23 km from the city.[14] Fiji Airways publishes fares from Suva to Nukuʻalofa in Tonga and Funafuti in Tuvalu, so a regional trip can leave from your doorstep.[16] For everything further afield, the Fiji Link domestic network connects Suva with Nadi, as well as with Labasa, Savusavu and Taveuni.[15]

That gives two honest ways to build a Suva itinerary:

  • SUV–NAN–destination on one booking, if that is how you will travel. Clean and easy to explain.
  • NAN–destination only, if you plan to drive or take the bus to Nadi. Equally fine, as long as the international dates match your form.

Read the airport codes on the PDF before you print it. SUV and NAN are easy to swap when typing, and a booking that "starts" in the wrong place raises a question you don't need.

Example: an Indian teacher in Suva heading to Munich

This is an illustration, not a customer story. Say Anjali teaches at a secondary school in Suva on a Fiji work permit and an Indian passport. She wants ten days in Bavaria over the December break, staying with a former colleague.

She books the German route through VFS in Suva.[6] Her appointment is on 3 November. On 31 October she orders one reservation: Suva to Nadi on Fiji Link, then on to Europe through a hub, and back the same way, with her name exactly as it appears in her passport. Her colleague's invitation letter, the insurance certificate and the covering letter all show the same dates. Wellington's checklist asks its New Zealand applicants for a re-entry visa valid three months past their return.[7] Anjali reads that as a hint for her own case: she makes sure her Fiji work permit runs comfortably beyond January and asks VFS whether they want a copy.

Only once the visa sticker is in her passport does she pay for real seats. When she does, she is free to pick different flights; the visa is not tied to the reservation's flight numbers.

Example: a Suva public servant and a Honolulu workshop

A second illustration. Mere works for a regional organisation in Suva and is invited to a five-day workshop in Honolulu. She applies at the US Embassy on Princes Road.[1]

Our advice to her would be to spend nothing on flights before the interview. The invitation letter, her employment letter and her travel history make the case; the State Department itself says to wait for the visa before buying.[3] Once the visa is issued she books the real flight from Nadi, with a domestic connection from Nausori if that suits her.

How to order from Suva, step by step

  1. Find your office in the list above, and check whether it wants a reservation at all.
  2. Download the current checklist and copy its exact words about flights onto a note.
  3. Fill in our booking form : route, travel dates and each person travelling, spelt letter for letter from the passport. Ask for a Nausori start if you want one.
  4. Pay $9 per passenger by card through Razorpay.
  5. Open our email about 10 minutes later and save the PDF.
  6. Retrieve the PNR yourself with your surname on the carrier's site; the verification guide walks through it.

Order status is on the tracking page. Fiji residents pay in US dollars; the price page lists other markets, and accommodation holds sit on the hotel reservation page.

When should a Suva applicant place the order?

Two or three days ahead of the appointment. Count on the booking living for up to 2 weeks at most; each airline sets its own exact period, and it varies by fare. Ordering the day you secure a VFS slot a month away is the commonest mistake we see. Should VFS or the embassy come back months later wanting current dates, buy a new reservation then.

Mistakes we see from Suva applicants

  • Typing SUV when you meant NAN, or the other way round.
  • A permit or re-entry document that ends too soon after the planned return to Fiji.
  • Buying a non-refundable fare for a US interview that needs no booking.
  • Names cut short. Some Fijian passports carry long given names; use every one of them.
  • Edited PDFs or "free generator" tickets. If the airline cannot find it, it will hurt you.

Suva FAQ

Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Suva?

No. We are an online service with no desk in Suva or anywhere else in Fiji. Everything runs through our website: $9 per person, paid by card via Razorpay, with the PDF reaching your inbox in roughly 10 minutes. Print it wherever is handy, at work or at a shop on Victoria Parade.

Do I need a flight reservation for a US visa interview in Suva?

No. Your DS-160 just needs expected travel dates, and US guidance is to keep your money until the visa comes through. A reservation is optional at best. If you carry one to show a short, defined trip, call it a reservation, never a ticket, and do not spend money on a non-refundable fare beforehand.

Can I apply for a German visa in Suva, or must I go to Wellington?

You can apply in Suva. The German Embassy in Wellington says VFS Global runs a visa centre in Suva on its behalf, and the same desk handles Hungarian applications. Using it is voluntary, so you may also book directly with the embassy in Wellington, but for most Suva residents the local centre is cheaper and quicker.

Does Germany's checklist accept a reservation rather than a ticket?

The Wellington visit checklist lists "flight reservation, rail tickets, others" and does not ask for a paid ticket. A held booking in your passport name, which you can open on the airline's site, matches that line. The checklist is dated 2018, so ask VFS in Suva whether a newer version applies.

Should my reservation start in Suva or Nadi?

Wherever you will really board. Long-haul flights leave from Nadi, so many Suva residents show a Fiji Link hop from Nausori first. If you will travel to Nadi by road, a booking that starts at Nadi is just as correct. Make sure the international dates match your application form.

How long will a reservation made in Suva stay valid?

A fortnight at most, and the carrier fixes the precise cut-off. Place the order in the last few days before you go to VFS or the embassy. If the appointment moves, place a new order closer to the new date rather than relying on an older booking that may have lapsed.

Can I fly out of Nausori or Nadi on this reservation?

No. Your seat is held in the carrier's system under a genuine reference, but it is unpaid, and an unpaid seat cannot be checked in. Pay for the real journey after approval. You are free to choose different flights from the ones on the reservation.

Dummy ticket price for applicants in Thailand

If your phone number is a Thailand number (+66), a flight reservation costs $9 per passenger, one way or round trip. The price follows the country of your phone number, not where you are flying, so a Bangkok applicant pays the same for Dubai, London or Toronto. Multi-city itineraries are priced per pair of flights and a hotel booking costs the same per stay.

Why a live reservation beats a free "ticket generator"

A generated ticket has no PNR. A visa officer who checks it finds nothing, and a refusal for a false document is the hardest kind to appeal.
