Fiji has more than three hundred islands and, as far as visas go, one real centre of gravity. If you live in Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Sigatoka, Labasa, Savusavu or Taveuni, the first question is rarely "what does the checklist say about flights?" It is "can I do this without travelling to Suva, and if not, how do I fit the trip in?" This guide answers that for people who live in Fiji, Fijian citizens and expatriate workers alike, and then turns to the flights themselves. People in the capital have their own page, our Suva guide, with the detail on each office there. Visitors flying in should read the Fiji entry guide instead.
We are an online service. There is no DummyTicketPrice office in Nadi, Suva or anywhere else in Fiji, and everything below can be done from a phone.
Fiji at a glance for visa applicants
| Item | Position in October 2026 |
|---|---|
| International airports | Nadi (NAN) for long-haul; Nausori (SUV) near Suva for regional routes such as Tonga and Tuvalu[12] |
| Domestic links | Fiji Link connects Nadi and Suva with Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Kadavu and other islands[10] |
| New Zealand visitor visas | Must be lodged online by residents of Pacific Islands Forum countries, Fiji among them[1] |
| Australian visas | Decided by the Department of Home Affairs; visa centre in Suva[3][4] |
| US visas | Interviews at the US Embassy in Suva, which serves Fiji and several neighbours[5] |
| Schengen (Germany, Denmark) | VFS Global desks in Suva[7][8] |
| Our price | $9 per traveller, single or return, paid by card |
Which visas can you handle without going to Suva?
The two most common ones, as a rule, and none of the others we checked. Here is how it breaks down.
| Destination | How a Fiji resident applies | Trip to Suva? | Where a reservation fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Zealand | Online only for visitor visas[1] | Not for lodging; INZ may still direct you to a centre for some steps[2] | Optional; dates for a wedding or graduation |
| Australia | Online with Home Affairs[3] | Only if you are asked to attend the Suva centre[4] | Optional supporting evidence |
| United States | DS-160, then interview[5] | Yes, the interview is in Suva | Not needed; buy flights after the visa[6] |
| Canada | Online, then biometrics at VFS[9] | Yes, for biometrics | Flight details are optional; see our Canada guide |
| Germany / Hungary | VFS Suva, or the embassy in Wellington[7] | Yes, unless you go to Wellington | A reservation is on the checklist |
| Denmark | VFS Suva, decided in Bangkok[8] | Yes | Follow the VFS checklist |
So the honest summary for someone in Lautoka or Labasa is this. For a trip to Auckland or Brisbane, stay home and apply online. For anything that needs an interview or fingerprints, budget for a day, or two, in Suva.
Living in Nadi, Lautoka or elsewhere in the West
You have the country's main international airport on your doorstep, and every visa desk we could confirm is on the other side of Viti Levu. That shapes how you plan.
Getting to the appointment. Fiji Link flies between Nadi and Suva, so a morning flight to Nausori and an evening flight back is possible on a good day.[10] Many people drive or take the bus along the Queens Road instead. Either way, book the visa appointment for late morning so a delay doesn't cost you the slot.
Building the itinerary. This is the easy part for Western residents. Your trip almost certainly starts at Nadi, so the reservation should too. There is no need to show a domestic leg to Suva just because the visa centre is there.
Timing the order. Order the reservation after you have fixed the Suva appointment and two or three days before it. If you end up rebooking because the bus breaks down on the Coral Coast, that window gives you room to sort a fresh one.
Living on Vanua Levu, Taveuni or an outer island
Here the appointment trip is a proper journey. Fiji Link's network links Labasa, Savusavu and Taveuni with both Nadi and Suva, which means you can usually choose whichever is closer to the office you need.[10] For a US interview or a VFS slot, that is Suva.
Two practical tips from experience. First, book the domestic flight before the visa appointment is confirmed only if it is changeable; island schedules are thin and weather can move them. Second, ask yourself where your international trip will really begin. If you will fly Labasa to Nadi and then out, a reservation that shows the Labasa–Nadi sector is a truthful picture of your plan. If you will spend a few days in Nadi first, start the reservation at Nadi and keep it simple.
New Zealand from Fiji: online, with family help allowed
Immigration New Zealand says visitor visa applications from Pacific Islands Forum countries must go in online, and a family member may submit one for you.[1] That second point matters for older parents in Ba or Rakiraki who are not comfortable with forms: a son or daughter in Auckland can lodge it.
Outside New Zealand, INZ uses visa application centres run through VFS for some steps, with bookings made on the VFS site.[2] If your application asks you to attend one, follow the instructions you receive rather than assuming there is a desk in your town.
A flight booking is not what gets a New Zealand visitor visa approved. Ties to Fiji, a clear reason for the trip and enough money do that. Our New Zealand visitor visa guide explains where a reservation helps and where it does not, and the New Zealand onward ticket guide covers what the airline and the border expect on travel day.
Australia from Fiji
The Australian High Commission in Suva points applicants to the Department of Home Affairs, which manages visa and citizenship applications, and says its own staff cannot help with general visa queries.[3] The High Commission's contact page also lists an Australian Visa Application Centre in Suva for the steps that need one.[4]
For a visitor visa, what you upload about your circumstances matters far more than any flight. We set out the evidence Home Affairs asks for, and the modest role of a reservation, in our Australia subclass 600 guide. One Fiji-specific point: many families combine Australia and New Zealand in one trip. If you do, make sure each visa file shows the whole route, with dates that agree.
The US, Canada, the UK and Europe
These are the applications that bring people from all over Fiji into Suva.
United States. The embassy's visa section processes all visa types for its district, which includes Fiji.[5] You will need to attend in person. Nobody will ask you for a flight booking there, and official US advice is to hold back on fares until you are approved.[6]
Canada. VFS lists a Canada visa application centre in Suva for biometrics.[9] IRCC treats flight details as useful context rather than a requirement; our Canada visitor visa guide has the detail.
United Kingdom. Non-Fijians applying from here should include proof that they live in Fiji lawfully, which GOV.UK specifically mentions; it places flight bookings in its weaker-evidence group except for transit.[13] In other words, your Fiji work permit matters more than any itinerary.
Germany and Denmark. Both use VFS in Suva; Germany also lets you apply directly in Wellington.[7][8] Under EU rules, the earliest a Schengen file goes in is six months before departure; the cut-off is 15 days.[14] For someone flying in from Labasa for the appointment, we'd lodge eight weeks out and make it one trip.
Fiji's international airports and what flies from them
Nadi (NAN) is the long-haul gateway. Fiji Airways' own route pages advertise direct flights from Nadi to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas Fort Worth and Honolulu, alongside its Australian and New Zealand services.[11] For a European or Asian trip you will connect somewhere, which is perfectly normal on a visa itinerary.
Nausori (SUV), near Suva, handles the regional side. Fiji Airways sells flights from Suva to Nukuʻalofa and Funafuti, and Fiji Link runs the domestic network from there too.[10][12]
Labasa (LBS), Savusavu and Taveuni are domestic airports. They feed Nadi and Suva.[10]
Our advice on a reservation is the same everywhere: show the airport you will actually leave from and the dates you have written on the form. If the trip begins at Nadi, start there. If it truly begins in Labasa, include the hop.

Expatriates living in Fiji: passports and transit points
Plenty of people applying from Fiji hold Indian, Filipino, Chinese or other passports and live here on work permits. Three things are worth checking before you build an itinerary.
- Your Fiji permit's end date. Consulates abroad often want proof you can return to the country you live in, and some measure that from the end of the trip.
- Transit rules on the way. The route out of Nadi often runs through Australia, New Zealand, the US or an Asian hub, and some of those need a transit visa for some passports. Connections through US airports are the usual trap. Our transit visa guide and the page on transit and layover rules explain how to check.
- Your own passport's rules. Advice for specific nationalities is in our Indian, Filipino and Bangladeshi traveller guides.
Spot a connection in a country you cannot pass through visa-free? Tell us, and we will hold another way round. A tidy itinerary through a hub you can legally use is better than the cheapest-looking one.
Example: a Lautoka family visiting Auckland
An illustration, not a real case. A couple in Lautoka with two teenagers want to attend a niece's graduation in Auckland in early December. All four hold Fijian passports.
They apply online, as New Zealand requires.[1] No trip to Suva is involved. They upload the graduation invitation, the parents' job letters, school letters for the teenagers and bank statements. Do they need a reservation? Not strictly. If they want the officer to see the exact dates, a Nadi–Auckland return for all four, ordered a couple of days before they submit, does that for $36. After approval they buy real tickets, perhaps on different flights, and carry the paid return when they travel.
Example: a nurse in Labasa applying for Germany
Another illustration. A Filipino nurse working in Labasa wants a week in Berlin to visit her sister. Her nearest Schengen desk is VFS in Suva, run for the German Embassy.[7]
She books the appointment first, then a changeable Fiji Link flight from Labasa to Nausori for the day before. Three days before the appointment she orders one reservation: Labasa to Nadi, then Nadi to Europe through a hub her Philippine passport can transit, and the same way back. She checks that her Fiji work permit runs well past her return date. The sister's invitation letter and her hospital leave letter carry the same dates as the booking. Once the visa is in her passport, she buys the real ticket.
Ordering from anywhere in Fiji, and what it costs
- Decide whether you need a reservation at all, using the table above.
- Pick the true starting airport: Nadi, Nausori or a domestic one.
- Fill in the order form with airports, dates and each traveller as the passport spells them.
- Pay $9 per traveller by card. Longer multi-city routes cost $9 for every two sectors.
- Check your inbox roughly 10 minutes later, then confirm the PNR on the carrier's site using the steps in our checking guide.
Lost an email? Use order tracking. Currency details are on the pricing page, and we can also hold hotel rooms for your file.
When to order. Close to the appointment. Island holds behave like any other: up to 2 weeks, with each carrier choosing its own exact limit. For someone flying in from Taveuni, that means ordering after the domestic flight is confirmed, not weeks before.
Fiji residents' FAQ
Can I apply for a New Zealand visitor visa without leaving Lautoka or Labasa?
Yes, as a rule. Yes. INZ says Forum-country visitor applications, and Fiji is one, are online only, and relatives are allowed to file them for you. INZ uses VFS-run centres for some steps, so follow any instruction you are given, but there is normally no need to travel for the application itself.
Is there any visa centre in Nadi or Lautoka?
We could not confirm one on an official page in October 2026. The US Embassy, the Australian visa centre and the VFS desks for Germany, Denmark and Canada that we found are all in Suva. If you live in the West, plan one trip to the capital for any visa that needs an interview or biometrics.
Should my reservation show a domestic flight from Labasa or Savusavu?
Only if that is really how you will travel. If you will fly from Vanua Levu to Nadi and straight out, including the domestic sector paints an accurate picture. If you will stay in Nadi for a few days first, a reservation starting at Nadi is cleaner. Whichever you choose, match the international dates to your form.
Which airport should a Fiji itinerary use for the US or Europe?
Nadi. Fiji Airways advertises direct Nadi flights to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas Fort Worth and Honolulu, and European or Asian trips connect through a hub. Nausori mostly serves regional routes such as Tonga and Tuvalu, plus domestic flights. Choose a hub your passport can transit without a visa you lack.
How much does a reservation cost in Fiji, and how do I pay?
Each traveller costs $9, whether the trip is one way or there and back, and Razorpay takes the card payment. With no shop anywhere in Fiji, we cannot accept cash. Around ten minutes after paying you receive a PDF showing the carrier and its booking code.
I am an expatriate on a Fiji work permit. What else should I check?
Check that your permit stays valid well beyond your return, because many consulates want proof you can go back to where you live. Check transit rules for every airport on the route. And use your full passport name on the reservation, not the shortened name your colleagues use.
Will Fiji Airways let me fly on this reservation?
No. An unpaid hold is not something an airline boards you on, and places such as New Zealand expect arriving visitors to carry a real return or onward ticket. Buy the real ticket after your visa is granted.
Applying from outside Suva?
Order online for $9 per traveller and have the PDF in about ten minutes.
Keep it straightforward: call this document a reservation wherever you mention it. It helps explain your plan; the visa office makes the decision.
