EgyptAir Dummy Ticket: Cairo Itineraries for Schengen and Egypt Visas

An EgyptAir dummy ticket is a held reservation on EgyptAir flights, not a paid ticket, which you open on egyptair.com's Manage booking page with the six-character reference and your last name. The German Embassy in Cairo asks for a valid round-trip flight reservation, and Egypt's e-Visa portal lists a travel itinerary rather than a ticket.

EgyptAir reservations come up in two quite different visa files. The first is Egyptians applying abroad, most often for a Schengen visa, where a round trip from Cairo is the obvious itinerary. The second is foreigners heading to Egypt itself, or connecting through Cairo to Africa, Europe or the Gulf. The airline side is the same for both: a six-character reference you can open on egyptair.com. The visa side differs a lot. This guide covers each, with the official wording where we could reach it and a plain note where we couldn't.

Egyptian applicants: does a Schengen visa need a paid EgyptAir ticket?

Not for Germany. Germany's Cairo embassy factsheet for tourism and visits has a FLIGHT heading, and under it wants a current round-trip reservation attached.[4] That's a reservation, not a purchased ticket. The same factsheet says applications are booked through TLScontact and take roughly 2 to 4 weeks, sometimes longer.[4]

Other Schengen states write their own checklists, so read the one for your main destination. Dutch guidance is similar: a named booking covering arrival and departure, and no requirement to have paid.[7] EU rules let you file as early as half a year ahead and as late as a fortnight plus a day; expect 15 days for an answer, 45 at worst.[8] Germany's own estimate from Cairo is longer, so apply early.

An EgyptAir round trip, Cairo to Frankfurt and back for example, is the itinerary most Egyptian applicants would actually fly, which keeps the story consistent. Our guide for Egyptian travellers covers the UK, US and Gulf rules as well, plus the military-status point that applies to men of conscription age.

Egyptian travellers going to the UK or US: is a booking needed?

Not in the way it is for Schengen. Both countries say so in their own guidance.

United Kingdom. Britain's visitor guidance treats a flight booking as low-value evidence unless you're only passing through.[9] If you're flying EgyptAir from Cairo to London for a family visit, your bank statements, job letter and the purpose of the trip carry the weight. A reservation doesn't.

United States. Washington's line: get the visa first, then commit to flights.[10] You can still put intended dates in the DS-160 without any booking.

Here's how the main destinations compare for someone starting in Cairo:

DestinationOfficial wording on flightsWhat we'd suggest
Germany (Schengen)Attach a valid round-trip flight reservation[4]EgyptAir reservation, ordered a few days before the TLScontact slot
Netherlands (Schengen)Named booking in and out; purchase not required[7]Same approach
United KingdomFlight bookings are weak evidence unless transiting[9]Skip it unless you're transiting
United StatesDon't buy tickets before the visa[10]Optional; dates in the form suffice
Checked October 2026. Always read the checklist for your own visa category.

The honest summary: an EgyptAir reservation earns its place in a Schengen file and in transit cases. For the UK and US, save the money until the visa is granted.

Visiting Egypt: what the e-Visa portal asks for

If you're travelling to Egypt, the official e-Visa portal is visa2egypt.gov.eg. Its FAQ lists two tourism options, single entry at US$30 and multiple entries at US$65.[6] Under entry requirements it lists a passport with six months' life left on arrival, the printed e-Visa, a travel itinerary, and for tourists, hotel bookings or a note of the places planned.[6]

Notice that it says itinerary, not ticket. A held EgyptAir reservation into and out of Cairo shows your dates clearly, and pairs naturally with a hotel booking. Bear in mind that the airline may want to see your return or onward plans at check-in, and the border officer can ask too. Our Egypt visa guide sets out who qualifies for the e-Visa, how the embassy sticker visa differs, and where the embassy route asks for something stricter.

How do you check an EgyptAir reservation online?

EgyptAir's Manage booking page asks for two things: the booking reference and the passenger's last name.[1] It's the same page passengers use to pick seats, choose meals, change booking class or switch destination, so if your reservation opens there, the airline's system knows about it.

  1. Go to egyptair.com and open Manage booking (sometimes shown as My reservations).
  2. Type the six-character booking reference from your PDF.
  3. Enter the passenger's last name exactly as on the booking.
  4. Open the booking and check each flight number, date and name against your application.

One practical note. When we tried to reach egyptair.com with automated tools in October 2026, a security check stopped us. In a normal browser you may also see a short verification screen before the page loads. That's the website's protection, not a problem with the booking. Wait for it to finish and carry on. If the booking itself won't load, go back over three things in order: the reference (an O typed as a zero is a classic), the surname spelling, and whether you entered the surname of the passenger listed first. Still stuck? Send us the reference on WhatsApp and we'll look at it with you before your appointment, not after. For other carriers' lookups, see our reservation checking guide.

How should names appear on an EgyptAir booking?

Exactly as your passport prints them. We couldn't open EgyptAir's own name-rules page during our October check, so we won't quote it. The principle is the same at every airline: the first and last names on the booking must match the passport you travel and apply with.

Egyptian names need extra care because many passports carry a long chain: your name, your father's, your grandfather's, then the family name. Visa forms and airline systems both have limited fields. Our advice is to copy the surname field from the passport data page and put the rest in the given-name field, in the same order. Don't shorten it to fit a form you've seen elsewhere. If the visa form and the reservation show the names differently, an officer may ask why. Our name format guide has examples of long and single names.

Can EgyptAir hold a booking before payment?

For one payment method, yes. EgyptAir's FAQ on paying through Fawry, the Egyptian payment network, says the option is only offered when you book at least 72 hours before travel, and the booking is held for 24 hours. If payment doesn't arrive in that time, the reservation is cancelled automatically.[2] The same FAQ says a reservation created this way can't be modified before the ticket is issued, and changes, cancellations and refunds then follow the fare rules.[2]

That's helpful if you live in Egypt and want to pay in cash at a Fawry outlet. It isn't a visa tool: a 24-hour hold expires long before a consulate taking two to four weeks gets to your file.

Which routes do visa applicants book on EgyptAir?

Cairo is the hub, and Star Alliance describes EgyptAir as linking it with Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and the Americas.[3] Visa-related EgyptAir itineraries usually take one of these shapes:

  • Cairo to a Schengen city and back, for Egyptian residents' Schengen files.
  • India to Cairo and back, for Indian tourists using the e-Visa. EgyptAir's news pages carry notices for passengers flying to Mumbai and Delhi; check its timetable for the current schedule.[5]
  • An Indian or Gulf origin to an African city through Cairo, where the destination's visa asks for an itinerary.

Connecting through Cairo raises its own question: does your passport need anything for the transit? That depends on your nationality and whether you leave the airport. Check before you book a long layover.

When should you order an EgyptAir reservation?

Close to your appointment. What we issue remains usable for as long as two weeks, though EgyptAir determines the actual length, so a month's head start achieves nothing. A worked example: say your TLScontact appointment in Cairo is Sunday 15 November. Order on the 12th, open it on egyptair.com on the 14th, and take the printout with you. Germany's own estimate is two to four weeks to decide, and the embassy can ask for more documents. If it asks to see the booking again later, order a fresh one.

When the visa arrives, buy the EgyptAir fare you'll actually fly, within the dates on the visa sticker. Visas are sometimes issued for slightly different dates from the ones requested. Suppose you asked for 1 to 14 December and the sticker reads 3 to 14 December. Book the outbound on the 3rd or later, and don't worry that it no longer matches the reservation you submitted; that document has done its work. Read the sticker's dates and number of entries carefully before paying for anything, because a non-refundable fare booked outside the visa's validity is an expensive mistake to undo. If it's refused, there's nothing to cancel with EgyptAir. Our page on reapplying after a refusal explains what to change.

Common errors on EgyptAir itineraries

  • Ordering weeks before the TLScontact slot, so the booking may have lapsed by appointment day.
  • Splitting a long Egyptian name differently on the visa form and the reservation.
  • Assuming the e-Visa covers you for every Egyptian entry route without checking eligibility.
  • Booking a Cairo connection with no thought to transit rules for your passport.
  • Any document with an invented reference. If egyptair.com can't open it, an officer can't either.

Price and how to order

An EgyptAir reservation costs the same as any airline with us, per passenger, single or return:

$9 worldwide₹699 India£7 UKAED 33SAR 34QAR 33OMR 3.5KWD 2.75

Multi-city? Every pair of legs carries its own fee, as the price page shows.

  1. Open the order form, enter your cities and dates, and pick EgyptAir.
  2. Copy each name from the passport data page.
  3. Pay via Razorpay by card, UPI or netbanking.
  4. Around 10 minutes later the PDF is emailed to you; the order tracker shows where it is.
  5. Check it on egyptair.com's Manage booking page before printing.

A reservation shows a consulate your plan. It doesn't make the decision, and no one can promise the outcome. For more, see flight reservation for visa, the requirements by country, our hotel bookings, the Schengen visa guide or the home page.

EgyptAir dummy ticket FAQ

Must I buy an EgyptAir ticket for Germany's Cairo embassy?

No. The embassy's factsheet wants a current round-trip reservation, which is different from a purchase. A held EgyptAir booking that opens on egyptair.com fits that wording. Other Schengen countries publish their own lists, so read the checklist for your main destination before you order anything.

How do I check my EgyptAir booking?

Go to Manage booking on egyptair.com and enter the six-character booking reference with the passenger's last name. EgyptAir calls the reference a PNR or Record Locator. If a brief security check appears first, let it finish. Once the booking loads, compare the flights, dates and names with your visa form.

Can EgyptAir hold a reservation without payment?

Only through the Fawry payment option. EgyptAir says a Fawry booking must be made at least 72 hours before travel and is held for 24 hours, after which it cancels automatically if unpaid. It's a way of paying in cash in Egypt, not a way to cover a visa processing period.

Do I need a flight booking for the Egypt e-Visa?

The portal's entry requirements mention a travel itinerary, alongside a passport valid for six months, the e-Visa printout and hotel details for tourists. They don't say a paid ticket. A reservation into and out of Cairo shows your dates. Check-in staff or immigration may still want to see how you'll leave.

How do I write a long Egyptian name on the booking?

Follow the passport. Put the surname field exactly as printed, and the remaining names in the given-name field in the same order. Use the same split on your visa form so nothing looks inconsistent. Don't shorten names to fit; tell us when ordering if your passport layout is unusual.

Is EgyptAir in an alliance?

Yes, Star Alliance. That means partner carriers such as Lufthansa can appear on the same itinerary, which helps if your Schengen route continues beyond EgyptAir's network. The visa rules don't change with the airline; consulates care that the dates and route are coherent.

Can I board EgyptAir with this reservation?

No. It isn't a paid ticket, so EgyptAir won't check you in on it. Use it to show your planned route to a consulate. Once the visa is issued, buy the EgyptAir fare you'll travel on from the airline or an agent.
