Dummy Ticket for Visa in Tanzania: Applying from Arusha, Dodoma, Mwanza, Zanzibar and Beyond

Tanzania residents outside Dar es Salaam can order an airline reservation with a working PNR, priced at $9 each, starting from DAR, JRO or ZNZ. Every visa centre we could confirm is in Dar, so plan a trip there for biometrics. Germany wants an itinerary, not a booking; Dutch files can carry a held reservation instead of a ticket.

Nearly all foreign visa work in Tanzania happens in one city, which is a headache if you live anywhere else. A doctor in Mwanza, a tour operator in Arusha, a civil servant in Dodoma or a hotel manager in Stone Town usually has to reach Dar es Salaam for fingerprints. This guide is for residents of the whole country, citizens and foreign workers alike, who are applying for visas to other countries. It sets out which missions and centres we could confirm, how to plan the trip to Dar around your appointment, which international airports you can realistically start from, and what the 2026 US rules mean for Tanzanian passports. If you live in Dar itself, our Dar es Salaam city guide goes deeper into each embassy's checklist. Everything we do is online; there is no DummyTicketPrice office in any Tanzanian town.

Do you have to go to Dar es Salaam for a visa appointment?

In practice, yes, for every country we checked. The German Embassy routes Schengen files through TLScontact in Dar.[1] The Netherlands names only the VFS Global centre in Dar es Salaam.[2] Sweden and Denmark also take biometrics at VFS in Dar, though their decisions are made in Nairobi.[4][5] Canada's list of visa application centres shows Dar es Salaam for Tanzania and no other city.[10] UK appointments moved to VFS Global in November 2024.[9] We found no outsourced centre in Arusha, Mwanza, Dodoma or Zanzibar on any of these official pages. If one opens, the provider's own site will say so first.

Biometric appointments must be attended in person, so build the trip to Dar into your plans. People from the north often take an early domestic flight from Kilimanjaro or Arusha, attend a morning slot and fly home the same evening. From Mwanza, Mbeya or Zanzibar the same pattern works if seats are available. That journey to the appointment is your own business; it does not need to appear on the reservation that goes in the file.

Which airport should your reservation start from?

The one you will really fly from on the trip. If you live in Arusha and will leave the country from Kilimanjaro, start the reservation at JRO; you do not have to pretend you are flying from Dar just because you apply there. The Tanzania Airports Authority lists three international airports on the mainland: Julius Nyerere in Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, and Msalato near Dodoma.[11] On the islands, the Zanzibar Airports Authority runs Abeid Amani Karume International, about five kilometres south of Zanzibar City, with flights to East Africa, Europe and the Middle East.[12] In June 2026 the authority marked the return of Etihad Airways to Zanzibar.[12]

A sensible rule: match the reservation to the airport printed on the rest of your plan. If your travel insurance, leave letter and cover letter all say you will fly from Zanzibar, a reservation from Dar looks like a loose thread. Pick one departure point and keep it everywhere.

What do the checklists say about flights?

They disagree, so read yours. Germany asks for a flight itinerary and tells you not to submit a booking; a printed schedule of your planned flights fits that.[1] For the Netherlands, the general tourism checklist wants travel into and out of Schengen shown under your own name, and it does not ask you to pay for the ticket.[3] The UK lists flight bookings as unhelpful evidence for a visit, except for passengers in transit.[7] And the US position is simply not to buy tickets before you hold the visa.[13]

Where does a reservation from us fit, then? Mainly in Dutch files and in any Schengen or other file whose checklist asks for a reservation or booking. For Germany you don't need one. For the UK and US it is optional at best. If a checklist ever insists on a "confirmed ticket" or "paid ticket", treat those words as meant: an unpaid hold could fall short, and paying for a refundable fare protects you better.

How do the 2026 US rules affect Tanzanian passport holders?

Heavily, and nothing about flights changes that. The US Embassy states that from 1 January 2026, under Presidential Proclamation 10998, visitor (B), student (F and M) and exchange (J) visas, along with most immigrant visas, are restricted for Tanzanian nationals unless a narrow exception fits.[6] You can still apply and sit the interview, yet be refused under those rules. On top of that, any Tanzanian who otherwise qualifies for a B1/B2 visa has to lodge a bond that can reach $20,000, using only the link a consular officer provides, whichever country they apply in.[6]

For residents of the regions there is one more thing: interviews are in person. The embassy notes that the interview-waiver policy for most renewals was suspended in September 2025, so Tanzanian citizens renewing visas also attend.[6] If you live in Mwanza and your interview is in Dar, book your own travel to the interview well ahead. A reservation for the US trip itself is optional, and we would hold off spending on it.

The US also moved routine visa work in parts of Africa to regional hubs from 1 August 2026. Dar es Salaam is not among the 25 posts that stopped, so Tanzania residents still interview in Dar.[14]

Foreign workers outside Dar: what to check

Tanzania hosts many foreign nationals outside the capital: mining engineers around Geita and Shinyanga, safari guides and hoteliers in the north, NGO staff in Dodoma and Kigoma. If that is you, two documents decide most outcomes. The first is your Tanzanian residence permit; Germany requires non-Tanzanians to show one that allows re-entry after the trip.[1] The second is proof of what you do and where; the Dutch checklist wants evidence of ties to the country you live in.[3] A letter from a lodge in Karatu or a mine in Geita carries weight because it puts you somewhere specific.

Can you file at home instead? Usually not: Schengen states want the file where you live, and the Netherlands says you must explain why if you apply somewhere else.[3] If you are a Filipino or Indian national, our Filipino travellers guide and guide for Indian travellers cover the nationality side.

Do residents of neighbouring countries apply in Tanzania?

For some destinations, yes. Besides Tanzanians, the Dutch VFS desk in Dar serves people living in Rwanda and in the Kivu provinces, north and south, of the DRC.[2] The German Embassy in Dar also covers the Comoros.[1] If you live in one of those places and fly to Dar for biometrics, your reservation should still start where your trip really begins, which may be Kigali or Moroni rather than DAR.

Why do Swedish and Danish files take longer from Tanzania?

Because the decisions are made in Kenya. Sweden's embassy page says Tanzania residents lodge at VFS in Dar and the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi decides.[4] Denmark's VFS information also places decisions in Nairobi and adds a compulsory 6 euro courier charge for Dar applicants.[5] For someone flying in from Mwanza, that means one trip to Dar for biometrics, then a wait while the passport goes north and back. Plan leave from work with that in mind.

Example: a safari lodge manager in Arusha

Suppose Daniel, a Kenyan national, manages a lodge outside Arusha on a Tanzanian work permit valid for two more years. He wants ten days in the Netherlands in March for a tourism fair and some sightseeing. The Netherlands sends him to VFS in Dar es Salaam.[2]

He books a VFS slot for 9 February, flies down from Kilimanjaro that morning and back the same evening. His reservation, ordered on 5 February, runs from JRO to Amsterdam on 3 March with one connection, and back to JRO on 13 March. The lodge's letter, his permit, the fair registration and his insurance all show those dates. The flight to Dar for the appointment is not in the file at all. Had his trip been mainly to Germany, he would have printed a schedule instead and skipped the reservation.

A second example: a family in Stone Town visiting London

Picture a Zanzibari couple and their two children planning a summer visit to relatives in London. They apply online on GOV.UK no more than three months before travel, then take the ferry to Dar for their VFS appointment.[8][9] Since the Home Office treats flight bookings as not useful for a visit, they leave flights out and spend their effort on bank records, the father's employment letter and the relatives' invitation.[7] When the visas arrive, usually within three weeks of biometrics, they buy real tickets from ZNZ.[8]

How do you order from anywhere in Tanzania?

  1. Confirm the flight item on your checklist. Germany: itinerary only. Netherlands: reservation is fine.
  2. Book the appointment in Dar and your own travel to reach it.
  3. Open our booking page and start the route at DAR, JRO, ZNZ or wherever you will really depart.
  4. Type names exactly as in each passport, children included.
  5. Pay $9 per traveller by card.
  6. Wait roughly ten minutes for the PDF to land in your inbox.
  7. Search the PNR under the airline's Manage booking. This guide walks through it.

Follow an order at order tracking. For prices in other currencies see the price page; for accommodation proof see hotel reservations.

When should you order if you travel to Dar for the appointment?

Three or four days before the appointment, once your trip to Dar is fixed. The hold lasts a fortnight or less, with the carrier choosing precisely how long. Ordering it weeks ahead, when you first book the VFS slot, is the mistake we would most like regional applicants to avoid. If the appointment moves because a domestic flight is cancelled, order a new reservation for the new date.

Mistakes regional applicants make

  • Starting the reservation in Dar when every other document says you will fly from Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar.
  • Adding the domestic trip to Dar to the visa itinerary, which only confuses it.
  • Ordering too early because the appointment trip needed booking early.
  • Ignoring permit expiry for foreign workers in the regions.
  • Using edited PDFs. If the airline cannot find the booking, it harms the application.

Tanzania FAQ

Is there a visa centre in Arusha or Zanzibar?

We looked at the official pages for Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, the UK and Canada in October 2026, and none showed a centre outside Dar es Salaam. Residents of Arusha, Zanzibar, Mwanza and Dodoma therefore travel to Dar for biometrics. If a provider opens a regional office, its own website will announce it, so check there before booking travel.

Can my reservation start from Kilimanjaro instead of Dar?

Yes, and it should if that is where you will fly from. The application centre's location has nothing to do with your departure airport. Just keep the same airport on your form, insurance and cover letter. We can hold a booking from JRO, ZNZ or DAR, depending on what is available for your dates.

Does a German visa from Tanzania need a flight reservation?

No. Germany's embassy wants to see your intended flights as an itinerary, and its page warns in block letters against sending a booking. A printed schedule of your planned flights meets that. Spend your effort on the permit, finances and purpose documents instead, and follow TLScontact's checklist for your category.

Does the US visa bond apply to Tanzanians who apply elsewhere?

Yes. According to the US Embassy, the Tanzanian B1/B2 bond, which can be as high as $20,000, applies regardless of where they apply, and is paid only after a consular officer gives instructions. Tanzanians are also covered by restrictions under Proclamation 10998 from January 2026, so check the exceptions before paying any fee.

Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Tanzania?

No. We work only online. You order through our website from anywhere in the country, settle $9 a passenger by card, and the PDF comes by email roughly ten minutes later. Support is by WhatsApp and email. There is no counter to visit in Dar, Arusha or Zanzibar.

How long does a reservation from Tanzania stay valid?

No longer than a fortnight; how much less is the airline's decision. Order it a few days before your appointment in Dar. If the appointment is rescheduled or the embassy later asks for up-to-date flight details, order a new one then.

Dummy ticket price for applicants in Tanzania

If your phone number is a Tanzania number (+255), a flight reservation costs $9 per passenger, one way or round trip. The price follows the country of your phone number, not where you are flying, so a Dar es Salaam applicant pays the same for Dubai, London or Toronto. Multi-city itineraries are priced per pair of flights and a hotel booking costs the same per stay.

Why a live reservation beats a free "ticket generator"

A generated ticket has no PNR. A visa officer who checks it finds nothing, and a refusal for a false document is the hardest kind to appeal.
