Here is something you will not read on many reservation websites: if you live in Kampala and your main destination is Germany, the German Embassy says in writing that it does not need an airline reservation or ticket. We would rather tell you that up front than sell you something you do not need. Other desks in Kampala do ask for one, though, and the Dutch checklist is built around it. This guide sets out which missions serve Uganda's residents, what each one writes about flights, what Entebbe offers in routes, and when a $9 reservation earns its place in your file. We trade online only, with no office in Kampala or Entebbe.
Kampala: the essentials

| Germany | German Embassy Kampala via TLScontact; Uganda residents for Germany or Estonia, South Sudan residents for Germany[3] |
| Sweden | VFS Global, Kampala since 2 September 2024; decided by the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi[4] |
| United Kingdom | UK Visa Application Centre, Victoria Courts, Old Kira Road, Bukoto[5] |
| Direct to Europe | Uganda Airlines, Entebbe–London Gatwick, four times a week since May 2025[9] |

Do Kampala applicants need a flight reservation at all?
It depends entirely on which country decides your visa. Here is what each one says:
| Destination | Who handles you | Official words on flights | Reservation? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany | German Embassy Kampala, via TLScontact[3] | Self-written itinerary; "please note that an airline reservation/ticket are not required"[3] | Not required |
| Netherlands | VFS Kampala[1] | Your name on a booking in and out of Schengen; "You do not need a paid travel ticket."[2] | Yes, held is fine |
| Sweden | VFS Kampala, decided in Nairobi[4] | The Uganda page does not spell out travel documents; it points to VFS and the Nairobi embassy[4] | Follow the Swedish checklist |
| United Kingdom | UK VAC, Bukoto[5] | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" listed among documents not to send[6] | No |
| United States | US Embassy interview | Don't buy tickets until the visa is issued[11] | No |
| Canada | IRCC online, biometrics at a VAC | "flight details" is one example of travel-plan evidence[12] | Optional |
Put plainly: for the Dutch, a held reservation is the document asked for. For Germany, the UK and the US, you can skip it. For Sweden and Canada, read the specific list in front of you.
Germany from Kampala: write the itinerary yourself
The German Embassy in Kampala handles you if you usually live in Uganda and your main destination is Germany or Estonia, or if you live in South Sudan and are going mainly to Germany.[3] All Schengen applications go through TLScontact by appointment. Files are accepted from six months before departure, and the embassy processes files within 15 days, sometimes 30 for certain cases and nationalities.[3]
The travel item reads: a "Travel itinerary, self-written indicating your travel dates, destinations, point of entry/exit and duration in the Schengen area", followed by the note that an airline reservation or ticket is not required.[3] In other words, a page you type yourself, something like: "Arrive Frankfurt 6 May from Entebbe; Berlin 7 to 15 May; depart Frankfurt 16 May to Entebbe." That is all.
Could a reservation still help? Only as a way to make your entry and exit points concrete. Our honest advice for a German file from Kampala is to save the $9 unless you have a specific reason, and to spend the effort on bank statements and employment proof instead.
The Netherlands: where a held booking is the right document
Ugandan residents lodge Dutch Schengen applications at VFS Global in Kampala, and so do residents of Rwanda, South Sudan and the Kivu provinces of the DRC.[1] Your slot must fall within six months, and at least 15 days, of departure.[1]
The tourism checklist wants "a reservation in your name for your travel to and from the Schengen area, or another document showing your travel plans", and adds that a paid ticket is not needed.[2] That describes a held booking with a live PNR almost word for word. An Entebbe–Amsterdam return, ordered a couple of days before the appointment, is what most Kampala applicants send.
Dutch file going in this week?
A return reservation from EBB costs $9 per traveller and reaches your inbox in about 10 minutes.
Sweden: submitted in Kampala, decided in Nairobi
Since 1 September 2024, the Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi handles all short-stay visa applications from citizens and legal residents of Uganda, and from 2 September 2024 those applications can be submitted at VFS Global in Kampala.[4] You do not need to travel to Kenya for the appointment.
The Uganda page itself does not list travel documents.[4] Get the checklist from VFS or the Nairobi embassy and follow its travel line. If it asks for a booking, our reservation meets that in the usual way. Wording such as "paid" or "confirmed ticket" means exactly that; in that case a refundable fare protects you better than a hold.
UK visas from Kampala
The British High Commission names the UK Visa Application Centre at Victoria Courts, Block A, ground floor, Old Kira Road, Bukoto.[5] That is where you give biometrics after applying online.
Flight bookings do not help a normal visit application. UKVI lists "flight bookings (unless transiting)" among documents it does not need.[6] You can apply up to three months ahead and usually get a decision within three weeks.[7] The one real exception is transit: if you change planes in the UK on the way to the US or Canada and need a visa to do it, show the onward flight.
Entebbe airport and routes that make sense
Kampala's international gateway is Entebbe International, managed by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, which also runs 13 upcountry aerodromes from Arua and Gulu to Mbarara and Kisoro.[8] Long-haul trips start at Entebbe.
- London: Uganda Airlines began four weekly non-stop flights between Entebbe and London Gatwick on 18 May 2025, using an Airbus A330-800neo.[9] It is the obvious routing for a UK trip, though you would not normally need to show it.
- Regional: the same carrier lists Nairobi, Johannesburg, Lagos, Dar es Salaam, Kinshasa, Juba and others.[9] Kenya Airways also lists Entebbe among its destinations from Nairobi.[10]
- Schengen: expect a connection, perhaps through Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Doha, Dubai, Istanbul or Brussels. One stop is normal for an Amsterdam or Stockholm itinerary.

Foreign residents of Kampala
Not everyone lodging a visa in Kampala is Ugandan; Indian, Kenyan, Rwandan, Congolese and South Sudanese residents apply here too. The checklists are specific about residence:
- Germany: "Nationals other than Ugandans/South-Sudanese must be able to show a valid residence permit and re-entry-permit for Uganda/South-Sudan".[3]
- Netherlands: evidence of lawful residence where you file, plus a permit that will not expire within three months of leaving the Schengen area.[2]
- United Kingdom: "confirmation of legal residence" where your passport is from elsewhere.[6]
The German line deserves a second look: it asks for a re-entry permit as well as the residence permit. Check both before you book an appointment. The reservation itself is the easy part; it uses your passport name and an Entebbe departure. Our guides for Indian travellers and Kenyan travellers cover home-country details.
Example: a Ntinda nurse visiting family in Utrecht
Say Grace, a nurse in Ntinda, plans three weeks in Utrecht from 2 to 23 April with her brother. All nights are in the Netherlands, so she applies at VFS Kampala, with an appointment on 10 March.[1]
She orders an EBB–Amsterdam return reservation on 7 March, showing 2 and 23 April. The brother's invitation, her hospital leave approval and the insurance carry the same dates. On the evening of 9 March she looks up the PNR on the airline's site, then prints the PDF. When the visa is granted, she buys whichever fare fits, perhaps via Nairobi or Doha.
A second example: a Kampala trader going to a Berlin fair
Now picture Moses, who runs an import business in Kampala and wants to attend a Berlin trade fair. With Germany as his main destination, he goes through TLScontact to the German Embassy.[3]
He types a one-page itinerary: arrival at Berlin from Entebbe via Istanbul, five nights at the fair, departure the following Monday. No reservation goes in, because the embassy says none is needed.[3] His money goes on making the business documents and bank statements complete. This is exactly the case where we would tell a customer to keep his $9.
Living outside Kampala: Jinja, Mbarara, Gulu and beyond
Every desk on this page takes applications in Kampala, so if you live upcountry the appointment means a trip to the capital. That is worth planning around. Book a slot late enough in the morning to arrive without stress, or travel the day before.
For the reservation, keep it simple. The international part starts at Entebbe whatever town you live in. UCAA does run aerodromes in places such as Arua, Gulu, Kasese and Mbarara, but these are not where Europe-bound journeys begin.[8] Showing Entebbe as your departure point is the honest picture for almost everyone. If you would genuinely start with a domestic flight, mention it in your own itinerary rather than adding legs to the reservation.
Applying in Kampala from South Sudan, Rwanda or eastern DRC
Kampala serves more than Ugandans. The Dutch centre takes residents of Rwanda, South Sudan and North or South Kivu.[1] The German Embassy accepts South Sudan residents whose main destination is Germany.[3]
If you travel in from Juba or Goma, your reservation should show the journey to Europe you will actually make, which may begin in your home city rather than Entebbe. The trip to Kampala for the appointment is a separate matter and does not need to appear. Bring proof of residence for the country you live in, and in the German case the residence and re-entry permits the embassy names.[3]
How to order from Kampala
- Identify the deciding embassy from your main destination.
- Check whether it asks for a reservation at all, using the table above and your own checklist.
- Type the trip into our booking page, with every name as printed in its passport.
- Check out by card on Razorpay at $9 a passenger.
- Open your inbox roughly ten minutes on and save the PDF.
- Look up the PNR under the airline's Manage booking option. Step-by-step help.
Timing your order
Order two or three days ahead of the VFS appointment. Validity tops out at two weeks, and the carrier chooses the precise cut-off, so ordering at the moment you book the slot is too early. A rescheduled appointment calls for a fresh order near the new day, not a lapsed hold.
One more thought on timing. If you are filing with the Dutch desk and also planning a later trip elsewhere, do not try to stretch one reservation across both. Order for the appointment in front of you, keep the PDF with that file, and order again when the next appointment is fixed. Paying $9 twice beats submitting a booking that has already lapsed.
Avoid these in Kampala
- Buying a reservation for a German file because someone said "every Schengen visa needs one".
- Forgetting the re-entry permit as a foreign resident applying to Germany.
- Choosing the Dutch desk although another Schengen country gets most nights.
- Adding flight bookings to a UK visitor file.
- Using a document no airline can find. Check every PNR yourself.
Kampala FAQ
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Kampala?
No. We have no office in Uganda or anywhere else. Everything runs through our website: you book, a Razorpay card payment goes through, and the reservation follows by email, normally in around ten minutes. Print it anywhere convenient before the Kampala appointment.
Does the German Embassy in Kampala need a flight booking?
No. Its Schengen page asks for a self-written itinerary showing dates, destinations, entry and exit points and length of stay, and notes that an airline reservation or ticket is not required. You may include a reservation if you want, but the embassy has said plainly that it does not need one.
What does the Dutch desk want?
Either a booking under your name that covers arriving in and leaving Schengen, or some other evidence of your plans, and it need not be paid for. Ugandan residents apply at VFS Global in Kampala, along with residents of Rwanda, South Sudan and North or South Kivu.
Do I have to go to Nairobi for a Swedish visa?
No. Since 2 September 2024, Ugandan residents can submit Swedish Schengen applications at VFS Global in Kampala. The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi makes the decision, but you lodge locally. Ask VFS for the current checklist and follow its travel-document line.
Is there a direct flight from Entebbe to Europe?
Uganda Airlines started four weekly non-stop flights between Entebbe and London Gatwick on 18 May 2025, according to the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority. For Schengen countries, plan on at least one connection, for example through Nairobi, Addis Ababa, a Gulf hub, Istanbul or Brussels.
What does it cost from Uganda?
$9 for every traveller on a single or return route. Multi-city routes run at $9 per traveller for every two-leg pair, with the total displayed before you pay. We take cards through Razorpay. There is no mobile money or cash option because we have no local presence.
Can I fly on the reservation?
No. Seats sit under a live airline reference with nothing paid, so check-in staff cannot accept it. With the visa granted, choose and pay for a real fare.
Order from Kampala
$9 a passenger, handled online, PNR checkable at the airline.
