Port Louis is an unusual place to need a visa guide, because Mauritian citizens travel visa-free to a lot of the world, including the Schengen area. The questions we get from Mauritius come from two groups. Mauritians heading to the United States, Canada or other countries that still require a visa. And the many foreign nationals who live and work on the island, from Indian and Bangladeshi workers to Malagasy, Chinese, South African and French residents, who need Schengen, UK or US visas from here. This page covers both: which embassies and centres in and around Port Louis take files, what the German checklist used in Mauritius says about flights, how the 2026 US bond affects Mauritians, and which routes out of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International look natural on a reservation. Everything happens online; we keep no office in Port Louis, Ebène or anywhere else on the island.

Do Mauritians need a visa at all?
For Europe's Schengen area, usually not. An agreement between the EU and Mauritius lets Mauritian citizens visit for up to 90 days in any 180-day period without a visa.[1] So if you are Mauritian and planning a holiday in Paris or Rome, there is no Schengen file and nothing for a visa officer to read. A return flight still matters at the border and at check-in, but that is a ticket question, not a visa one.
The United States is the main exception, and in 2026 it got harder (more on that below). Canada also has a visa application centre in Port Louis for those who need one.[10] For other countries, check the destination's official rules for your passport before assuming either way.
Foreign residents are the other story. An Indian engineer in Ebène, a Bangladeshi factory worker in Plaine Lauzun or a Malagasy nurse in Curepipe needs a Schengen visa just as they would at home, and Mauritius is where they apply.
How do German Schengen visas work from Mauritius?
Germany has outsourced Schengen intake in Mauritius to TLScontact, and the centre is in Ebène.[2] The decision, however, is made by the German Embassy in Antananarivo, Madagascar. The embassy's page is frank about what that means: processing takes up to 15 days or more, your passport is couriered between Mauritius and Madagascar twice, so book a TLS appointment at least six weeks before you plan to leave for Germany.[2] It also says no further documents are accepted once the file has gone to the embassy, unless the embassy asks.[2]
Its tourism checklist for Mauritius puts the flight item plainly: "Flight reservation (round trip)". Rail tickets are added where relevant.[3] It also says anyone who is not Mauritian has to show a residency or work permit that will let them back into Mauritius after the trip, and hand in earlier passports.[3] A held reservation fits the flight wording. The permit line is the one that decides files for foreign residents.
One more line from the embassy is worth taking seriously. A visa does not guarantee entry; border police may ask for more, so carry copies of your invitation, hotel reservation and health insurance on the trip.[2]
Where do Mauritius residents apply for the Netherlands or France?
At the French Embassy. Netherlands Worldwide says residents of Mauritius apply for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands at the French embassy in Port Louis, and should contact the French embassy with questions or objections too.[4] There is one exception it names: family facilitation for living with a Dutch minor child cannot be handled there and must go to a Dutch post in another country.[4]
The French Embassy's own site announced in 2026 that it is moving to Telfair, in Moka.[5] Before your appointment, check the embassy site for the current visa desk address and hours. The document list itself comes from the France-Visas online application, so follow what it generates for your profile, including how it describes travel evidence.
TLS Ebène appointment coming up?
Germany's Mauritius checklist asks for a round-trip flight reservation. Ours costs $9 and usually arrives within ten minutes.
How has the US visa process changed for Mauritians?
Since 2 April 2026, Mauritian and Seychellois nationals who qualify for a new B1/B2 visa must lodge a bond of as much as $20,000 before any visa is printed.[8] The embassy stresses that the bond is posted only after the consular officer instructs it, through a direct Pay.gov link, never through a third-party website, and that it applies wherever a Mauritian applies.[8]
Other points from the embassy's visa page: the embassy says nearly every nonimmigrant applicant is interviewed in person, young children and people over 79 included, and slots are booked only through the official scheduling site or its call centre.[8] Port Louis is not among the 25 African posts where routine visa services stopped in August 2026, so interviews still happen here.[9]
Flights? Washington tells applicants to keep their money until a visa is issued.[12] With a bond of that size in play, we'd go further: spend nothing on travel until the officer has told you the outcome. A reservation is optional at the interview.
What about UK visas from Port Louis?
For those who need one, UK biometrics are taken by VFS Global at Madeleine House, third floor, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Drive, Port Louis. When VFS opened it in October 2024, the centre worked on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Mauritius was one of the countries offered a "Keep My Passport" option.[6] Check current days on the VFS site before going. The Home Office treats flight bookings, unless transiting, as not useful for a visit, so most applicants leave them out.[7]
Port Louis options compared

| Netherlands | French Embassy, Port Louis[4] | Follow the list you are given | Read it first |
| United Kingdom | VFS Global, Madeleine House[6] | Bookings carry little weight, transit aside[7] | Normally omit |
| United States | US Embassy Port Louis[8] | Buy flights only once approved[12] | Spend nothing early |

Foreign workers in Mauritius: the permit comes first
If you hold an occupation permit, work permit or residence permit, read its end date before anything else. Germany requires a permit that lets you back into Mauritius after the trip.[3] If your permit ends a month after your return, expect questions; if it ends during the trip, expect a refusal.
Keep the return leg landing at MRU. Your life, job and permit are on the island, and that is the tie a visa officer is looking for. Say you are a Bangladeshi supervisor in a textile firm planning a week in Germany for a trade fair. The reservation should run from Mauritius to Germany and back to Mauritius, not onward to Dhaka, unless you really plan to go home and can show permission to return afterwards. Our Bangladeshi travellers guide and Indian travellers guide cover the passport side.
Six weeks, remember, is the German minimum lead time from Mauritius.[2] For a trade fair in Hanover in April, that means a TLS slot by late February at the latest.
Which flights from MRU look right on a reservation?
Air Mauritius is the obvious starting point. Its home page features Mumbai, Chennai, Perth, Kuala Lumpur, Antananarivo, Cape Town, Réunion and Rodrigues, and promotes connections at London Gatwick.[13] Its Manage booking tool asks for the booking reference and your last name, so you can check a reservation yourself.[13]
For Germany, a routing through Paris or a Gulf hub to Frankfurt or Munich is ordinary; for the US, there is always at least one connection, often in Europe or the Gulf. Check transit rules for your passport at the connecting airport, because a transit visa is a separate requirement that no reservation addresses.
Air Mauritius also reminds passengers to complete the digital All in One form before travelling to Mauritius.[13] That is for the return home, not the visa file, but it saves time at SSR when you come back.

Example: an Indian software engineer in Ebène visiting Berlin
Take Ravi, an Indian national on an occupation permit valid until next August, who works for a software firm in Ebène. He wants nine days in Berlin in June to see his sister. As a non-Mauritian he needs a Schengen visa, and Germany is the destination, so he books TLScontact Ebène.[2]
He counts back six weeks from 10 June and books a slot for 22 April. On 18 April he orders a reservation: MRU to Berlin with one connection on 10 June, Berlin back to MRU on 19 June. His sister's invitation, his permit, previous passports and insurance go in with it, all on the checklist's order.[3] The file then goes to Antananarivo. If the reservation lapses during processing, that is expected; he will buy his actual ticket once the visa is issued.
A second example: a Mauritian family and a US trip
Now picture a Mauritian couple from Quatre Bornes planning a fortnight in Florida with their two children. They complete DS-160 forms, book interviews at the embassy, and are told at the interview that they are eligible but must post the bond.[8] Only after the bond is accepted and visas are issued do they buy tickets. A reservation before the interview would have added nothing, and we'd have told them so.
How to order a reservation from Mauritius
- Confirm you need a visa for your passport and destination.
- Book the appointment, allowing six weeks for Germany.
- Enter the trip on our booking page, starting and ending at MRU.
- Copy names exactly from each passport's data page.
- Pay $9 per traveller by card.
- Open the email we send, normally within ten minutes.
- Check the PNR with the airline. Here's how to verify it.
Something delayed? Track the order. German checklists also ask for accommodation, which our hotel reservation service handles; see every currency on the price page.
How early before the TLS Ebène slot should you order?
Order in the last few days before the TLS date rather than the day you book it. Airlines keep these holds for up to a fortnight, each setting its own end date. With Germany's file travelling to Madagascar and back, the hold will probably expire before Antananarivo decides. Nothing is wrong when that happens; it is the reason the checklist settles for a reservation rather than a purchase. If the embassy requests updated flight details, order a new one then.
Mistakes to avoid in Mauritius
- Buying a reservation for a Schengen trip when your Mauritian passport means you need no visa.
- Booking TLS less than six weeks before a German trip.
- Applying for the Netherlands at a Dutch post abroad when the French Embassy in Port Louis is the route.
- Paying a US bond anywhere other than the link a consular officer provides.
- Permit expiry too close to, or before, the return date.
Port Louis FAQ
Do Mauritian citizens need a Schengen visa?
Not for short visits. Under an agreement with the EU, Mauritian citizens may spend up to 90 days in a rolling 180-day window in the Schengen area without a visa. You will still need a real ticket to fly, and border officers may ask about your plans and funds. Longer stays, work or study need a national visa from the country concerned.
Where is the German visa centre in Mauritius?
TLScontact runs it in Ebène. The German Embassy in Antananarivo decides the applications, and passports are couriered between the two countries twice. The embassy advises booking an appointment at least six weeks before you plan to travel to Germany.
Who handles Dutch visas in Mauritius?
The French Embassy in Port Louis. Netherlands Worldwide directs Mauritius residents there for Schengen visas for the Netherlands, except where the request concerns living with a Dutch child who is a minor; that goes to a Dutch post in another country. The French Embassy announced a move to Telfair in 2026, so check its current address.
What is the US visa bond for Mauritians?
From 2 April 2026, Mauritians who qualify for a new B1/B2 visa have to put up a bond, capped at $20,000, before it is issued. The consular officer gives instructions and a direct Pay.gov link; the embassy warns against third-party sites. The requirement applies wherever a Mauritian applies.
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Port Louis?
No. Ordering happens on our site; you pay $9 for each traveller with a card and get the booking by email, typically ten minutes on. There is no counter in Port Louis, Ebène or elsewhere in Mauritius, and support is by WhatsApp and email.
How long does a reservation from Mauritius stay valid?
At most fourteen days; the carrier picks the precise end. Book it close to the TLS date. Because German files travel to Antananarivo, expect the hold to run out during processing; should the embassy then want fresh flight details, get a new reservation.
Can I check in at SSR International with the reservation?
No. A held seat with an unpaid fare will be refused at the SSR check-in counter. After approval, purchase a fare that sits within the visa's dates, on the reserved route or any other.
Reservation for your Mauritius application
Ordered online for $9 each; look the PNR up yourself on the airline's site.
Worth repeating: a reservation supports a visa file but is not a ticket and cannot secure a visa. Embassies decide visas, and airlines decide boarding.
