Nobody needs a visa for Seychelles. Not Indians, not anyone. The Immigration and Civil Status department says so directly, and the official border portal repeats it.[1][2] That does not mean you can simply turn up. Every visitor needs an approved Travel Authorisation before flying, and the visitor's permit stamped at Mahé depends on four things, one of which is a ticket out. This guide sets out the official wording on flights, how the Travel Authorisation works, what airlines check, and the narrow set of cases where a held reservation is the right document.

Is Seychelles really visa-free for Indians?
Yes. The department's Visiting Seychelles page says "a visa is not required to enter Seychelles", and the border portal's FAQ puts it more simply still: no visa requirements for any traveller.[1][2] There is no embassy file, no appointment and no checklist to download.
What replaces the visa is a two-step check. First, before travel, you apply online for the Travel Authorisation (the portal sometimes calls it an eTA). Second, on arrival at the airport, an immigration officer issues a visitor's permit if you meet the conditions listed below. That permit covers holidays, business visits and visits to friends or family.[1] If you are coming to work, study or live, you need a different permit, and this guide does not cover those.
What does the officer check for a visitor's permit?
The department lists the conditions word for word. A visitor's permit is issued to a traveller who:
- is not a prohibited immigrant;
- does not already hold a permit to reside in Seychelles;
- "holds a valid return ticket or ticket for onward travel for the duration of the visit";
- "has confirmed accommodation"; and
- "has sufficient funds for the duration of the stay", at least US$150 a day or the equivalent.[1]
Two of those are about planning, not paperwork. "For the duration of the visit" means your flight out should match the length of stay you ask for. If you hold a hotel for seven nights and a return flight on day twelve, expect to be asked where you are sleeping for the other five. The money rule is easy to calculate: a ten-day stay implies at least US$1,500 available, in cash, cards or a bank statement you can show.
The same page carries a warning worth repeating: "It is a serious offence to make false declarations to an immigration officer for the purpose of entry in Seychelles."[1] Answer questions accurately, and describe every document you carry for what it is.
How does the Seychelles Travel Authorisation work?
The Travel Authorisation is applied for on the official Seychelles Electronic Border System, at seychelles.govtas.com, or its app.[2] It is mandatory for every non-citizen visitor and is valid for one journey only, so a second trip needs a fresh application.
The portal's visitor section asks you to upload your passport photo page and a photo of the traveller, give your trip information, answer health and customs questions, and pay. The trip section is where flights come in. Its upload prompt reads: "Upload your airline booking confirmation which clearly shows your international arrival and departure flight details."[2] For accommodation, the FAQ wants a booking showing the place's name and your check-in and check-out dates, or, if you stay with friends or family, an invitation letter giving the host's name, address, contact number and NIN.[2]

On timing, the portal tells visitors to apply within 30 days of their scheduled arrival, and says review can take up to 24 hours.[2] If you fly and still have no approval, you are not allowed to proceed to immigration: you must complete the process on arrival and pay a 30 EUR penalty fee.[2] If your flight changes after approval, the FAQ explains how to update your arrival and departure dates through the link in your acknowledgement email.[2]
Use only the official portal. The Travel Authorisation FAQ itself points out that third-party sites may charge higher processing fees.
Ticket or booking confirmation: which words does Seychelles use?
- At the border (Immigration and Civil Status): "holds a valid return ticket or ticket for onward travel for the duration of the visit."[1]
- In the Travel Authorisation form: "Upload your airline booking confirmation which clearly shows your international arrival and departure flight details."[2]
- For the Workcation programme (remote workers on longer stays), the same portal's text lists "a provisional onward ticket for the duration of the visit or flight itinerary from the airline."[2]
The difference between the first two matters. The form asks for a booking confirmation showing your flights. The border condition talks about a valid ticket. In practice the document you upload to the form should be the same trip you then fly on, and when you land you should be holding a real, paid ticket out of the country.
Where we stand: for an ordinary holiday to Seychelles, buy your actual return ticket before applying for the Travel Authorisation and upload that confirmation. A held reservation may not satisfy an officer applying the "valid return ticket" condition, and Seychelles is not a trip where you need to avoid paying for flights before a visa decision, because there isn't one.
What will the airline check when you fly to Mahé?
The border portal says the airline "should verify whether you have a valid, approved eTA before allowing you to board", and calls this a mandatory requirement from the Government of Seychelles.[2] Have the approval email or QR code ready on your phone and on paper.
Agents also look at whether you will be able to leave. A one-way booking into Seychelles, with no onward flight, is the kind of thing that triggers a call to a supervisor, because the airline flies you home at its own cost if you are refused. How Indians usually reach Seychelles
From India the shortest option is a non-stop flight from Mumbai where one is operating. Air Seychelles has flown Mumbai to Mahé,[3] so check its current schedule. Most other itineraries connect through a Gulf hub such as Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi, or through Addis Ababa or Nairobi in East Africa. Flight schedules change by season; check the airline's own timetable rather than a third-party list.
Transit through the Gulf on a single through-booking usually keeps you airside, but each hub sets its own rules. When does a held reservation make sense for a Seychelles trip?
Less often than for a visa country, and we would rather say so than sell you something you don't need.

A typical fit is a combined trip, for instance a Gulf resident applying for a Schengen visa for a route that also includes Seychelles, where the embassy wants to see the whole itinerary before the traveller pays for any of it. A clean way to prepare a Seychelles trip
- Check the passport. It must stay valid for the whole trip until you are home.[1] Many airlines prefer more headroom, so renew if it is close.
- Book flights in and out. Make sure the return or onward date matches the stay you plan.
- Book every night. One confirmation per place you stay, with names and dates visible; or an invitation letter with the host's NIN.
- Apply for the Travel Authorisation on the official portal within 30 days of arrival, uploading the flight and accommodation confirmations.
- Check your funds. Plan for at least US$150 a day of stay.
- Carry it all on paper and phone: approval, tickets, bookings, bank card or statement.
- If something changes, update your trip dates through the link in the acknowledgement email before you fly.
Common Seychelles slip-ups
- Arriving without an approved Travel Authorisation. It costs a 30 EUR penalty on top of the fee, and you cannot pass immigration without it.
- Using a look-alike website that charges more than the official fee.
- Hotel nights that don't cover the whole stay shown by your flights.
- A one-way ticket with no onward booking.
- Not enough money for the US$150-a-day guideline.
- Re-using an old approval. Each journey needs its own Travel Authorisation.
Seychelles entry and flights: common questions
Do Indians need a visa for Seychelles?
No. Seychelles requires no visa for any nationality. Indian visitors instead apply online for a Travel Authorisation before flying, then receive a visitor's permit on arrival if they hold a return or onward ticket, confirmed accommodation and enough money, which the department sets at a minimum of US$150 a day.
Can I use a dummy ticket for the Seychelles Travel Authorisation?
We advise against it for a normal holiday. The form asks for your airline booking confirmation, and the border condition is a valid return or onward ticket. Since there is no visa decision to wait for, buy the ticket you will fly on and upload that. Reservations suit combined trips where another embassy wants your itinerary first.
How much is the Seychelles Travel Authorisation?
For adults the portal lists €10 for standard 24-hour processing, €30 for premium six-hour processing and €70 for expedited 60-minute processing. Children aged 12 and under pay €10, €30 and €30. Bank charges are extra, and the portal says fees can change, so check before you pay.

Can I enter Seychelles on a one-way ticket?

A one-way arrival without either does not meet that condition, and airlines may refuse to board you. If you are moving on to another country, carry that onward booking.
My flight changed after approval. Do I reapply?
Not necessarily. The portal's FAQ explains that you can update your arrival and departure dates using the Update My Application link in your acknowledgement email. Remember that each approval covers one journey only, so a separate later trip does need a new application.
If you do need a reservation: price and timing
Suppose a Schengen or UK consulate wants your route, Mahé leg included, before you pay. That is when our reservation earns its place: a live PNR under your name, visible on the carrier's own Manage booking screen. Remember it holds seats only; no fare is paid and boarding on it is impossible.
Whether you need one direction or both, the per-traveller price stays the same; multi-city journeys count legs two at a time (see the price page).
