Gulf Air is Bahrain's national carrier, and its Bahrain hub sits between South Asia and Europe in a way that makes it a sensible routing for a lot of visa trips. Indian travellers going to London, Paris or Frankfurt use it. So do Pakistani and Bangladeshi travellers, and residents of Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, who are a short drive from Bahrain. This page covers what a Gulf Air reservation looks like in a visa file, how to find it on gulfair.com, what Gulf Air publishes about free holds and name corrections, and where Bahrain's own visa rules come in. Sources are numbered and listed at the bottom.

What does a Gulf Air dummy ticket actually contain?
A Gulf Air "dummy ticket" is a reservation on Gulf Air flights that has been created but not paid for. It has a booking reference, your name, the flight numbers (they start with GF) and the dates. It doesn't let you board. Its job is to show a visa officer the journey you intend to make.
Think of it as a seat request that the airline's system is holding for a limited time. Because it's real, anyone with the reference and your surname can bring it up on gulfair.com. Because it isn't paid, it lapses unless someone buys it. Both facts matter, and you should be open about both in your application.
How do I find my booking on gulfair.com?
Gulf Air's Manage my booking form has two fields: Booking Reference and Last name.[1] Fill both in and the booking opens.
- Go to gulfair.com and open Manage my booking.
- Enter the six-character booking reference exactly as printed.
- Add the surname of any traveller named in it.
- Open the booking and compare the names, flight numbers and dates against your visa form.
Gulf Air says that, once you're in, you can view and print contact and flight details, change date, time, cabin and fare class, and edit frequent flyer details.[1] Some of that applies only to paid bookings, of course. For a reservation you only need to see that it exists and is correct.
A tip from the visa desk: if the page won't open the booking, check you typed the surname, not the first name. That's the most common slip by a long way. If it still fails, contact whoever made the booking before you submit anything. Our walkthrough on checking a reservation before submission lists the other things worth comparing.
Does Gulf Air let you hold a booking for free?
It does, within limits. Gulf Air's U.S. Passenger Service Policy says customers may reserve a ticket at the quoted price without paying for 24 hours, or cancel within 24 hours of booking for a full refund without penalty.[2] Both apply only when the booking is made at least seven days before departure and through Gulf Air's direct channels: gulfair.com, its worldwide call centre or a local Gulf Air sales office.[2]
The policy sits on Gulf Air's US passenger service page, and it does not spell out whether every market gets the same treatment. If you plan to rely on it, ask Gulf Air in your country before booking.
Is 24 hours enough for a visa file? Rarely. Most consulates see you days after you assemble your documents, and many take weeks to decide. A day-long hold is handy for comparing prices, not for sitting in a passport folder.
Gulf Air free hold, 24-hour refund or our reservation?
| Route to a booking | Cost to you | How long it holds | Who it suits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gulf Air 24-hour hold | Free | 24 hours[2] | Someone ready to buy within a day | Direct channels only, 7+ days before departure |
| Buy, then cancel within 24 hours | Full fare up front, refunded[2] | You hold a paid ticket until you cancel | A traveller who must show a paid booking briefly | Money tied up until the refund arrives |
| Our reservation | SAR 34 / ₹699 / $9 each | A fortnight at most, ending when Gulf Air's system releases it | Visa checklists that ask for a reservation or itinerary | Not usable to fly, and not proof of payment |
| Paid flexible fare | Fare plus any change fees | Until travel | Rules that ask for a confirmed or paid ticket | Fare conditions vary by fare class |
We'd never suggest buying and cancelling a ticket just to get a document. If your checklist really needs a paid ticket, buy one you're willing to use or that has refund terms you understand.
Which visa trips is Gulf Air commonly used for?
Gulf Air's destination guide is a fair map of who uses it. It lists Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai and Thiruvananthapuram in India; Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore in Pakistan; Dhaka and Colombo; and in Europe, London, Manchester, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome, Milan, Athens, Larnaca, Malaga, Geneva and Nice.[4] Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Singapore, Guangzhou and Shanghai cover the east, with New York the long-haul outlier.[4] Some European points are seasonal, so check the dates.
In practice, Gulf Air reservations turn up in four kinds of file:
- Schengen visas from India or the Gulf via Bahrain to Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Rome, Milan or Athens. See our Schengen guide for what each consulate asks.
- UK visitor visas. Look for "flight bookings (unless transiting)" in the GOV.UK visitor documents guide; it rates them as of little use, so don't spend on a ticket for this.[7] Our UK visa guide explains.
- Bahrain eVisas for people visiting family or on business in Manama, which need a return ticket in the file.[6]
- Thailand, Malaysia or the Philippines for Gulf residents, where an onward or return booking is part of entry. Our Thailand onward ticket guide is a good starting point.
One note on 2026. Gulf Air's media centre shows that it ran a temporary network from Dammam in Saudi Arabia during this year's regional airspace disruption.[5] Schedules have since moved back toward Bahrain, but if your route was affected, look it up on gulfair.com for your exact dates before booking a reservation on it.
What does Bahrain's eVisa ask for, and will a reservation do?
Bahrain's national portal lists four attachments for the two-week single-entry visit eVisa: "A copy of the passport", "Hotel reservation", "Return ticket", and a three-month bank statement showing a regular income of 300 to 500 BD a month or the equivalent of 150 BD for each day of the visit.[6] The same page gives processing as 3 to 5 working days and the total fee as 13 BD, made up of a 9 BD visa fee and a 4 BD application fee.[6]
The wording is simply "Return ticket". It doesn't say paid, and it doesn't say reservation. Our honest reading: a verifiable return reservation shows the planned exit, but we can't promise the reviewing officer will accept it in place of a paid ticket. If your trip dates are fixed, a refundable Gulf Air return removes the doubt. The fuller picture is in our Bahrain visa guide.
What are Gulf Air's rules on names and corrections?
Gulf Air's agency policy is unusually specific, and it's useful for travellers too. It allows title changes (Mr to Mrs, for example) and corrections of genuine spelling mistakes of up to three characters free of charge, and that limit is a combined total across all parts of the name.[3] Other corrections cost USD 100. Gulf Air gives examples: maiden name to married name, a short name or nickname to the full name, or adding a middle name or surname.[3] Black and Gold Falconflyer members are exempt, and passengers booked through someone other than Gulf Air pay an extra USD 27 service fee when Gulf Air makes the change.[3]
The lesson for a visa file is simple. Get the name right first time. Say your passport reads "FATHIMA NASREEN" with surname "ABDUL RAHIMAN". A reservation in the name "Fathima Rahiman" is three characters and a word away from that, and it will look sloppy to an officer comparing documents. Copy the passport exactly. Our guide to name formats covers tricky cases.
Booking for a family or group
Put everyone travelling together on one reservation if you can. A consulate reading a family file finds it easier when the parents and children share a booking reference, and you only have one look-up to test. Children's names follow the same rule as adults: exactly as their own passports print them, even when a child's surname differs from a parent's. If a family member is applying separately, say a spouse submitting a week later, give that person their own reservation dated for their own appointment instead of stretching one booking across both.
What does Gulf Air check before you fly?
Like other carriers, Gulf Air checks that you hold the passport and visa your destination needs. IATA calls its Timatic database the source used by "virtually every airline" for these checks.[8] Heading somewhere that demands onward travel? Expect the counter staff to ask.
From Bahrain, Gulf Air lets passengers in any class check in with baggage up to 24 hours before departure, to any Gulf Air destination except London.[9] Handy for an early flight. By the time you're at that desk, you'll be travelling on a paid ticket, so the reservation from your visa file has done its job. For the difference between what airlines and border officers look for, read check-in versus immigration onward checks.
How to get a Gulf Air reservation through us
Pick a Gulf Air route and dates, give us the names, and we issue a reservation with a working reference. The PDF usually reaches your inbox within ten minutes, ready to test on gulfair.com.
You pay the same per head for one way or return, and multi-city routes add a charge for every two legs (see our price page). Razorpay handles payment by UPI, cards or netbanking, and order tracking shows where your request is.
Entry and exit dates should mirror the application and hotel.
Remember Gulf Air's three-character correction limit.
It shows the airline, flights and booking reference.
Booking reference and last name, then compare every detail.
Validity: Gulf Air's system decides when the hold drops, and two weeks is the longest you should count on. We'd place the order one to three days before the appointment. Booking it the week you first start gathering documents is too early.

Gulf Air reservation problems to avoid
- Surname typed in the wrong box, so the airline's look-up fails when an officer tries it.
- A seasonal European route booked for dates when it doesn't operate.
- Assuming "Return ticket" always means a reservation is fine for Bahrain's eVisa.
- Booking weeks before the appointment, then submitting a lapsed reservation.
- Mismatched cities, such as a hotel in Rome with a return flight from Munich and no link between them.
Remember: no reservation guarantees a visa or a boarding pass. The consulate and the airline each make their own call.
Gulf Air reservation FAQ
What do I need to look up a Gulf Air booking?
Two details on gulfair.com's Manage my booking: the reference and a traveller's surname. You don't need an account or a Falconflyer number. If the booking doesn't open, the usual causes are a typo in the reference, a first name typed in the surname box, or a reservation that has already lapsed.
Can Gulf Air hold my seat without payment?
Gulf Air's published policy lets you reserve at the quoted price without paying for 24 hours, if you book through gulfair.com, its call centre or a sales office at least seven days before departure. The policy appears on its US passenger service page, so confirm with Gulf Air locally whether it applies to your booking.
Is there a 24-hour free cancellation on Gulf Air?
Under the same policy, a cancellation requested within 24 hours of booking gets a full refund without penalty, again for direct bookings made seven or more days ahead. This applies to paid bookings. It's useful if you need a paid ticket briefly, but we wouldn't buy and cancel just to create a document.
Does Bahrain accept a flight reservation for its eVisa?
The Bahrain portal asks for a "Return ticket" for the two-week visit eVisa and doesn't define it further. A verifiable return reservation shows your exit plan, but the reviewing authority decides whether it's enough. If your dates are firm and you want certainty, a refundable return fare is the safer document.
How much does Gulf Air charge to fix a name?
Spelling corrections of up to three characters in total, and title changes, are free. Anything bigger, such as adding a middle name or switching a maiden name for a married one, costs USD 100, plus a USD 27 service fee if someone other than Gulf Air made the booking. Black and Gold Falconflyer members don't pay.
How early should I order a Gulf Air reservation?
One to three days before you submit. A fortnight is the maximum and Gulf Air may release it earlier, so ordering early only shortens the time it's live while your file is being read. If your appointment is rescheduled, order again for the new date.
Can I use a Gulf Air reservation for a UK visa?
You can include one, but GOV.UK treats flight bookings, outside transit cases, as weak evidence for a visitor application. A reservation won't hurt if it's accurate, but don't expect it to carry weight. Spend your effort on evidence of funds, ties and the purpose of the trip.
