Living in Muharraq has one real advantage for travellers: Bahrain International Airport is on your doorstep. The paperwork, though, still runs through Manama, where the embassies and visa centres sit. This guide is for people who live in Muharraq, Arad, Hidd, Busaiteen or Galali and need a visa for Europe, the UK or the US. Most of them are expats with Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi or Nigerian passports, so we point to the rules that matter to them. One thing up front: DummyTicketPrice is an online service with no office in Bahrain. You order on the website and receive everything by email.

Which embassy handles your visa if you live in Muharraq?
The one for your main destination, through its office in Manama. Schengen law ties you to the consulate covering the place you legally live, and for Muharraq that is Bahrain.[4] Germany's embassy in Manama issues visas for the Kingdom and reminds applicants that the Schengen visa must come from the mission of the country where they will spend most time.[3]
The Netherlands is the case people miss. It has no separate visa desk for this purpose in Bahrain. Instead, Dutch Schengen visas for Bahrain residents are lodged at Germany's VFS Global centre in Manama.[1] There is an exception for people seeking facilitation to live with a Dutch child under 18; they must use a Dutch mission or another office abroad.[1]
For other Schengen countries, open that country's own visa page for Bahrain before you book anything. Representation deals change, and the wrong appointment costs you a VFS fee and a week.
What do the official lists say about flights?
Here is the flight wording we could confirm on official pages for the countries Muharraq residents ask us about most.
| Country | Lodged in Bahrain at | Flight wording or advice | Our honest suggestion |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netherlands | German VFS centre, Manama[1] | Reservation for travel to and from Schengen; "You do not need a paid travel ticket."[2] | A held round-trip reservation fits |
| Germany | German Embassy Manama via VFS[3] | Document list held on VFS's site; the embassy page itself gives timings, not the list[3] | Follow the VFS list for your purpose |
| UK | UK visa application centre, Manama | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" under less useful documents[7] | Skip for a visit; include for transit |
| USA | US Embassy Manama[5] | Do not buy tickets until the visa is issued[6] | Nothing needed for the interview |
Appointment in Manama next week?
Order a $9 reservation a few days ahead, then confirm it is live before you set off.
How early can you apply, and how long does it take?
Germany's Manama page gives the Schengen window precisely: apply "at the earliest 6 months before and at the latest 15 calendar days before" travelling.[3] It adds that processing can take up to 15 days, and in single cases up to 45.[3] The European Commission sets out the same framework for every Schengen state.[4]
In practice, that means a Muharraq family planning a summer trip should book the VFS slot in spring, not in June. The flight reservation is the last thing to sort, a few days before the appointment, because it does not last long.
Your Bahrain residence permit and the visa file
Every Schengen and UK file from an expat needs proof that you live in Bahrain lawfully. The Dutch tourism checklist asks for a residence permit valid for at least three months after you leave the Schengen area.[2] GOV.UK asks foreign nationals applying outside their home country to show they reside there legally, unless the passport already proves it.[7]
A quick example of the arithmetic. Say your Bahraini residence permit ends on 31 March and you plan Amsterdam from 2 to 16 February. Three months after 16 February is 16 May, so the permit is too short. Renew before you apply. A reservation cannot fix a residence problem, and no amount of paperwork elsewhere in the file will either.
Applying for a US visa from Muharraq
You will interview at the US Embassy in Manama. The embassy's visa page asks applicants to book "in their country of residence or nationality" and notes that application fees cannot be refunded or transferred.[5] It also posts notices about presidential proclamations that limit visa issuance for some nationalities, so read those first.[5]
On flights, the State Department's message is consistent: wait for the visa before you buy tickets.[6] The DS-160 asks for your planned dates, and that is enough. We do not recommend paying for a reservation for a US interview unless you personally want one to keep your dates straight.
Flying from BAH: what the airline checks
Bahrain International Airport is Gulf Air's home, so many Muharraq residents build their reservation on Gulf Air sectors. Gulf Air's online check-in asks for two things to find a booking: the "Booking Reference" and the "Last name".[8] Those are the same two details an embassy officer would use to look up your reservation, which is why the surname on our PDF must match your passport exactly.
Two airport facts are worth knowing for the real trip later. Gulf Air lets passengers leaving Bahrain drop bags and check in as early as a day ahead on most routes, though not for London.[8] And the airport operator says boarding gates close 20 minutes before departure.[9] Neither applies to a reservation, which no check-in desk will accept, but both matter after approval when you pay for real seats.
For a reservation, keep it simple. Show BAH to your main destination and back. If there is no direct Gulf Air flight on your dates, a single connection through another Gulf hub or a European city reads perfectly normally.

Example: a nurse in Hidd planning a week in Amsterdam
Imagine a Filipino nurse living in Hidd who wants a week in the Netherlands in April. As a Bahrain resident, she books her appointment at Germany's VFS centre in Manama, which takes Dutch applications for Bahrain residents.[1] Her residence permit runs well into next year, so the three-month rule is met.
Her appointment is on 10 March. We would suggest ordering the reservation around 6 or 7 March: Bahrain to Amsterdam on 12 April, back on 19 April, her name exactly as it reads in the passport. The Dutch list accepts a reservation for the journey there and back and does not ask for a paid fare.[2] Her hotel, insurance and the hospital's leave approval all show 12 to 19 April. On the morning she drives to Manama, she types the PNR and her surname into the airline's website to confirm the hold has not lapsed.
A second example: changing planes in London
The UK treats flights differently when you are only passing through. For transit, GOV.UK looks for a confirmed onward flight leaving within 48 hours, plus permission to enter wherever you are heading, for instance a visa or residence card.[7]
Picture a Pakistani engineer in Busaiteen flying via London to a conference in a third country. Here the flight evidence is central, not optional. Because the guidance uses the word confirmed, we would put a paid, changeable itinerary in a transit file rather than a hold. A held reservation may not meet that standard. Use one only if your specific checklist says a reservation is acceptable.
Relatives visiting you in Muharraq
When family comes to Bahrain, they apply for their visa through the government's eVisa site, which describes itself as "the only official website" for Bahraini visas.[10] The same site cautions that a visa alone does not settle entry; travellers must still meet the conditions when they land.[10] It lists which nationalities can apply online and which receive visas on arrival. We could not confirm a current document list for each nationality on the official site in October 2026, so ask your relatives to read the requirements shown when they start their own application.
Ordering from Muharraq in six steps
- Confirm the right desk in Manama for your main destination.
- Check your residence permit covers the trip and the months after it.
- Read your checklist's flight line; if it says confirmed or paid, plan for a real fare.
- Fill in the route and names on our booking form, matching every passport letter for letter.
- Pay $9 per traveller by card through Razorpay's secure checkout.
- Retrieve the booking from the carrier with the six-character code plus surname. Our step-by-step check explains how.
Waiting on an order? The tracker shows where it stands. Currency options are set out on the price list.
How close to the appointment should you book?
Within the same week. Any reservation we issue remains held for 2 weeks at the very most, and it is the airline that fixes the actual period, sometimes fewer days. Booking a month early because the appointment email arrived is the most common slip we see. Should a consulate later want fresh travel details, a new booking at that stage costs the same $9.
Guides for the passports we see most from Bahrain
The destination's rules are the same for everyone, but home-country checks and visa history are not. These guides go deeper:
- Indian expats living in the Gulf
- Pakistani passport holders
- Filipino passport holders
- Bangladeshi passport holders
- Nigerian passport holders
UK applicants should also check whether their passport can use the UK's electronic travel authorisation instead of a visa. GOV.UK prices an ETA at £20 and notes that the border officer still makes the final call.[11] Most of the expat passports listed above still need a full visitor visa.
What goes in the folder next to the reservation?
The flight page is a small part of the file. Officers read it alongside everything else, so the other papers need to tell the same story.
- Your residence permit copy, front and back, with the expiry date clearly visible.
- A letter from your employer confirming your job, salary and approved leave dates.
- Bank statements covering the period your checklist asks for.
- Travel insurance and hotel bookings whose dates line up with the reservation, day for day.
- The reservation PDF itself, printed single-sided, with each traveller's name readable.
If one of these shows different dates, fix it before the appointment. A mismatch is far more noticeable to an officer than the type of flight document you chose.
What to avoid
- Booking the wrong country's slot, such as a Dutch trip at a desk that does not take Dutch files.
- A residence permit that runs out less than three months after your return.
- Relying on a reservation for UK transit when the guidance talks about a confirmed onward journey.
- Edited PDFs or names that differ from the passport, even by one letter.
- Trying to fly on a reservation. It has no paid fare behind it.
Muharraq FAQ
Where do I apply for a Schengen visa if I live in Muharraq?
In Manama, at the embassy or visa centre of your main destination. Germany's embassy uses VFS Global there, and the same German centre accepts Dutch Schengen applications from Bahrain residents. For other Schengen countries, check that country's page for Bahrain, since representation arrangements change from time to time.
Does the Netherlands want a paid air ticket from Bahrain residents?
No. The Dutch list is satisfied by a booking that covers your arrival in and departure from Schengen; it states that you need not have paid for it. Our held booking with a live PNR meets that description. Do follow any extra instruction VFS gives you on the day.
How early can I apply for a German visa in Bahrain?
The German Embassy Manama says six months before travel at the earliest and 15 calendar days before at the latest. Processing usually takes up to 15 days, though some cases need up to 45. Book your appointment early and leave the flight reservation until a few days before it.
Should I take flight details to the US Embassy in Manama?
There is no requirement. The embassy's list omits flights, and Washington recommends that travel purchases wait until a visa has been approved. Enter your intended dates in the DS-160 and bring the documents the embassy lists for your visa type instead.
Is a reservation enough for a UK transit visa?
Possibly not. GOV.UK expects evidence that the onward journey is confirmed and departs within 48 hours of arriving in the UK. A held reservation is not a confirmed, paid journey, so we would buy a ticket you can change or refund for a transit application unless your instructions say otherwise.
How do I pay $9 from Bahrain?
By debit or credit card through Razorpay on our booking page. Every traveller costs $9 whether you fly single or return; longer multi-stop routes are billed per two sectors. If you also hold an Indian bank account, UPI and netbanking are available at checkout.
Can I use the reservation to fly out of Bahrain International Airport?
No. The airline holds a seat under a real PNR, but there is no paid fare, so check-in will not accept it. Buy a ticket once your visa is approved. Gulf Air, for example, lets you retrieve a paid booking with the booking reference and last name.
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Muharraq or Manama?
No. We work only online. You book and pay on our website, the PDF arrives by email, and support is available on WhatsApp. That also means nobody should ask you to pay cash on our behalf.
