Kuwait City is where almost every visa application from Kuwait is lodged. The main centres cluster in Sharq, along Al Shuhada Street and Khalid Ibn Al Waleed Street, a few minutes from the towers of the business district. This page is for people who live in the capital, most of them expatriates on a Kuwaiti residence permit, and who need a visa for a trip abroad. We cover the centres, the exact flight wording on the checklists used in Kuwait, the residence conditions, the airlines at Kuwait International, and how a reservation fits in. We have no office in Kuwait; everything happens online.

Which visa centres serve Kuwait City residents?
Mostly VFS Global and BLS International, both in Sharq. Here is who handles what, from the missions' own pages.
Germany sends short-stay Schengen files to VFS Global on Level 25 of Arraya Tower, Al Shuhada Street. The same centre takes applications for Finland, Iceland and Norway.[4] Stays longer than 90 days go to the German Embassy instead. In January 2026 VFS opened upgraded premises for its Czech and German services, with more biometric counters.[5]
The Czech Republic also uses VFS on Al Shuhada Street, and its embassy notes that every application must be presented in person, with fingerprints taken.[6]
Spain uses BLS International on the 6th floor of the Kamco Invest building on Khalid Ibn Al Waleed Street. Passports are collected between 4 pm and 5 pm, Sunday to Thursday.[7]
Italy runs short-stay visas through VFS Global's Italy Visa Application Centre, and points applicants to its "Visto per l'Italia" portal for requirements.[9]
The Netherlands accepts files at VFS in Kuwait City from people who live in Kuwait.[10]
If your destination is not here, search for its embassy in Kuwait first. We list only what we could confirm on an official page this month.
What do the checklists in Kuwait say about flights?
Two of them are unusually specific, which helps. Quoted exactly:
| Mission | Flight wording | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Czech Republic | "confirmed itinerary/airline reservation or airline ticket and required visa", as proof you can proceed after Schengen[6] | A reservation is named outright as an option |
| Spain (BLS) | "Confirmed flight reservations/booking (with either booking reference or ticket number)"[8] | A booking with a reference is described; ask BLS if unsure |
| Netherlands | A reservation in your name to and from Schengen; a paid ticket is not needed[11] | Held reservation fits |
| Germany | Checklists are on the VFS Kuwait site; the embassy FAQ mentions carrying "travel confirmations" on the trip[4] | Download the current list from VFS |
| UK | "Flight bookings (unless transiting)" listed as less useful[13] | Normally leave out |
The Czech wording is the friendliest we have seen in the Gulf: it lists an airline reservation next to a ticket. Spain's phrase "confirmed flight reservations/booking" fits a held booking with a booking reference, which is what we provide. Still, words such as "confirmed" are read by people, not machines. If BLS staff ask for a paid fare, buy a refundable one.
Appointment in Sharq this week?
KWD 2.75 a head. Most PDFs land within 10 minutes of payment, and the booking can be looked up on the carrier's site.
How long must your Kuwait residence be valid?
Each mission has its own rule, and they are not the same length.
- Czech Republic: the Kuwaiti residence permit should be valid at least three months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area.[6]
- Spain: for non-GCC nationals, the residence must be valid until the date of return. If it expires within three months after you come back, BLS asks for a certificate from PACI, the Public Authority for Civil Information.[8]
- Netherlands: you must live in Kuwait to apply there.[10]
Our advice for capital residents is the same as for anyone in the Gulf: if renewal is due within six months, renew first. A PACI visit is a morning; a refusal costs weeks.
Schengen timing applies on top of this. Apply between six months and 15 days before travel, and allow 15 days for a decision, sometimes up to 45.[12] The Dutch page also mentions the 15-day minimum and the six-month window.[10]
US and UK visas from Kuwait City
Neither needs a flight booking. The US Embassy in Kuwait says nonimmigrant interviews belong in the applicant's country of residence or nationality, which means Kuwait residents can be seen in Kuwait.[15] The State Department advises against buying tickets until a visa is issued.[16]
For the UK, applications are handled by VFS; GOV.UK announced the Arraya Tower centre in 2016.[14] Its guide places flight bookings on the list of documents that do not help, unless you are transiting.[13] Spend the effort on evidence of your job and savings.
Kuwait International and the airlines on your reservation
All international flights for residents of the capital leave from Kuwait International (KWI).[1] Kuwait Airways has its own Terminal 4, opened on 15 August 2018.[3]
The airport's airline directory lists Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways, European carriers including Lufthansa, KLM, Air France, British Airways and Turkish Airlines, and the airlines that expatriates use for home routes: Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo, Akasa Air, Pakistan International Airlines, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, SriLankan Airlines, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.[2]
For a Schengen file, a KWI to Frankfurt or Amsterdam itinerary is easy to recognise. For Spain, a connection via a European or Gulf hub is ordinary. Pick something that actually operates on your dates, and keep the return into KWI.

Does your passport change anything for a Kuwait City file?
It changes the home side of your story, not the Kuwait side. The centres, the residence rules and the flight wording above apply to everyone who lives in Kuwait. What differs is how your ties look and which route home you might mention.
Indian residents are the largest group we hear from. Air India, Air India Express, IndiGo and Akasa Air all appear in the KWI directory, so a later trip home is easy to explain if it is part of the plan.[2] Our guide for Gulf-based Indian expats compares residence rules across the region.
Egyptian residents should note that Spain's residence rule is written for non-GCC nationals, so it applies to you in full.[8]
Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan residents will find their national airlines in the airport directory as well.[2] For a European file, though, the itinerary should still run Kuwait to Europe and back. See our guides for Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankan travellers.
Filipino residents can route via Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific for home trips; our Filipino travellers guide covers the Manila side.
After the visa: what to carry when you actually travel
Once the visa is in your passport, buy the real ticket, then keep copies of the file with you. The German Embassy in Kuwait advises travellers to carry copies of the documents they used for the application, such as invitation letters and travel confirmations, because border officers can ask about the purpose of the stay.[4] That habit is sensible for any Schengen entry.
Your paid ticket does not need to match the reservation flight for flight. It does need to fall within the visa's validity and the number of days granted. If your plans have shifted by a few days, that is normal; if they have changed completely, such as a different first country of entry, read the visa conditions carefully or ask the embassy.
Example: an accountant in Sharq applying for Prague
Take Rahul, an Indian accountant who lives and works in Sharq. He wants a week in Prague over the Christmas holidays, and his VFS slot on Al Shuhada Street is on 25 November. His residence runs until next June, comfortably more than three months beyond his return.[6]
Because the Czech list accepts an "airline reservation", he orders one from us on 22 November: KWI to Prague via Frankfurt on 20 December, returning on 28 December. The insurance, hotel and salary certificate carry the same dates. That is the whole travel side of his file done for KWD 2.75.
Example: a couple from Bneid Al Gar applying for Spain
Now consider an Egyptian couple living in Bneid Al Gar, applying to BLS for a Madrid holiday in April. Her residence runs out about eight weeks after they would land back in Kuwait, which under the BLS rules means a PACI certificate is needed.[8] They get it first.
The BLS list asks for confirmed flight bookings with a booking reference. We would issue one reservation with both names, KWI to Madrid and back, ordered three days before the appointment. If the BLS officer asks for something stronger, they buy a refundable return and replace our document with it.
How to order from Kuwait City
- Identify your centre from the list above and download your category's checklist.
- Check your residence dates against that mission's rule.
- Go to our booking page and enter KWI, your destination and dates, with names exactly as printed in each passport.
- Pay KWD 2.75 per passenger by card via Razorpay; UPI and netbanking work too if you bank in India.
- Look for our email about 10 minutes later.
- Open the PNR on the airline's site; our verification guide shows the steps.
Track an order on our tracking page, or compare prices on the price page.
When should you order it?
Close to the appointment, ideally two to four days before. Expect the hold to last 14 days at most, often less, because each airline sets its own limit. Kuwait's summer rush makes this easy to get wrong: people book a June slot in April, order the flight the same day, and arrive with a lapsed booking. Wait until the week itself.
One more practical point for Sharq appointments. Print the reservation on its own sheet and put it next to the hotel confirmation in your folder, so the counter staff can compare dates at a glance. Write the airline name and booking reference on a sticky note inside the folder too. If anyone asks, you can answer in a sentence instead of searching your phone, and if a schedule change appears when you check the PNR the night before, you have time to order a corrected reservation.
Mistakes we see in Kuwait City
- Residence too close to expiry for the Czech three-month rule.
- Missing PACI certificate on a Spanish file when residence ends soon after the trip.
- Itineraries that start in India or Pakistan when you apply as a Kuwait resident.
- Names typed from memory instead of the passport's machine-readable line.
- Edited PDFs that no airline system can find.
Kuwait City FAQ
Where is the German visa centre in Kuwait City?
The German Embassy lists VFS Global on Level 25 of Arraya Tower, Al Shuhada Street, for short-stay Schengen visas to Germany, Finland, Iceland and Norway. VFS opened upgraded premises for its Czech and German services in January 2026, so check the address printed on your appointment confirmation before you go.
Does the Czech embassy accept a flight reservation?
Its page asks for proof you can continue after Schengen, described as a "confirmed itinerary/airline reservation or airline ticket". A reservation is therefore named as an acceptable form. The officer still judges the file as a whole, so make sure the dates match your hotel, insurance and employer letter.
What does BLS Spain in Kuwait want for flights?
The tourist checklist asks for "Confirmed flight reservations/booking (with either booking reference or ticket number)". Our reservation carries a booking reference that you can look up on the airline's site. If BLS tells you a paid fare is required in your case, follow that instead and buy a refundable ticket.
How much does a reservation cost in Kuwait?
Each passenger costs KWD 2.75, whatever the direction of travel. Multi-city routes are charged per pair of legs. Payment is online by card through Razorpay, and Indian UPI or netbanking also work. We have no office in Kuwait, so there is no cash option.
I am a Kuwait resident but my family lives in India. Which itinerary do I show?
The one you will actually travel. If you apply from Kuwait, the usual pattern is Kuwait to Europe and back to Kuwait, because the officer is checking that you return to your job and residence. If you plan to go home to India afterwards, mention it in your cover letter and show it honestly.
Can I check in at KWI with this reservation?
No. The PNR is genuine but unpaid, so KWI's check-in counters will not accept it. Once your visa is approved, buy a ticket for the dates on the visa.
How long does the reservation last?
Fourteen days is the ceiling, and individual airlines often release earlier. Order during your appointment week. Should the consulate request revised flights afterwards, simply buy another reservation then.

Please note: a flight reservation supports a visa file; it never guarantees one. Call it a reservation, keep every date consistent, and let the consulate decide.
