For a large share of Kerala's visa paperwork, Kochi is the place it happens. Applicants from Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha come to the city's visa centres, and Cochin International Airport carries a heavy load of Gulf and Southeast Asian flights. This page answers the practical questions we hear from Kerala applicants: which mission decides your file, what each one writes about flights, which routes from COK look natural on an itinerary, and when a held reservation actually helps. Everything happens online; DummyTicketPrice has no desk or branch in Kochi, so there is nowhere to visit.

Where is a Kerala visa application actually decided?
Handing in your file in Kochi does not mean it is decided in Kochi. For most countries the centre on your doorstep only collects documents and biometrics; the decision is taken by an embassy or consulate in another city. Knowing which one tells you whose checklist to read.
| Destination | Submit in Kerala? | Decided by | What the official wording says about flights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany (Schengen) | Yes, VFS Cochin[3] | Consulate General Mumbai[4] | "Flight reservation"; buying a ticket early gives no faster decision[6] |
| Netherlands | Yes, VFS Cochin[7] | Dutch mission in India | Booking in the applicant's name; a paid ticket is not required[8] |
| Italy | Yes, VFS Cochin[9] | Consulate General Mumbai[9] | See the Mumbai consulate's checklist for your category |
| United Kingdom | Yes, Cochin or Thiruvananthapuram[1] | UK Visas and Immigration | Flight bookings are among documents GOV.UK calls less useful for visitors[2] |
| USA | Interview in Chennai[10] | US Consulate General Chennai | Don't buy tickets until you have the visa[13] |
| France | Check France-Visas for the nearest centre | Consulate General Pondicherry & Chennai[11] | France-Visas generates your document list online |
| Japan | Through the channel the Chennai consulate names | Consulate General Chennai[12] | See the consulate's tourist checklist |
If the checklist you are handed says "confirmed ticket" or "paid ticket", take it at its word. A held reservation may not meet that wording, and a refundable fare is the safer choice in that case.

Applying for a Schengen visa from Kerala
Germany is the simplest case. Its missions in India say a Schengen application can go in at any VFS centre in the country and will be forwarded to Mumbai, and VFS lists a Cochin centre among its German application points.[3][4] The tourism checklist asks for a "Flight reservation" and states plainly that buying a ticket early does not speed anything up.[6] So a verifiable reservation is exactly what is wanted.
The Netherlands also takes applications in Cochin and is even more direct about it. Its tourism checklist wants a booking in your name covering travel into and out of the Schengen area, then says no paid ticket is needed.[7][8]
Italy is where Kerala applicants slip up. The Italian consulate in Bengaluru says on its visa page that Kerala belongs to the Consulate General in Mumbai, and that you must have been legally resident in the relevant district for at least the last six months.[9] Its page lists Cochin among the VFS centres under Mumbai's jurisdiction, so you can still submit locally.[9] Just make sure you follow Mumbai's checklist, not Bengaluru's.
For France, Kerala sits with the Consulate General in Pondicherry and Chennai.[11] Start on France-Visas, which produces your document list, and choose the centre it offers. For trips that combine countries, our Schengen visa guide explains which consulate you apply to.
UK visas from Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram
Kerala is well served for the UK. VFS runs standard centres in Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram, plus a premium centre in Calicut that opens on set days. Premium locations change, so check VFS's current list before you plan around one.[1] If you live in Kozhikode or Malappuram, the Calicut premium centre may save you a day's travel, at a higher fee.
On flights, the UK is relaxed. Flight bookings sit on GOV.UK's list of less helpful evidence for visitors.[2] Most visitors from Kerala, including parents going to see children in Manchester, Leicester or London, can leave a reservation out. If you include one to show the length of your stay, call it a reservation and keep the dates in line with your form.
US visas: your interview is in Chennai
The US Consulate General in Chennai covers Kerala, along with Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.[10] That means a trip across the state border for the interview, usually by train or a short flight from COK to MAA.
No flight booking is required for a US visitor visa, and the State Department says tickets are best bought only once the visa is in hand.[13] If you want to carry a reservation to show a short, defined trip, that is your choice. We would only suggest it where it helps you answer questions about dates, for example a parent attending a graduation on a fixed day.
Gulf visits and emigration clearance
For many Kerala households the most common foreign trip is to the Gulf, to visit a husband, wife, son or daughter working in Dubai, Doha, Muscat, Riyadh or Kuwait City. Those visit visas are usually sponsored by the relative living there, and the documents depend on the country. Our country guides cover each one: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.
Work travel is different. The Ministry of External Affairs states that anyone with an Emigration Check Required (ECR) passport who is taking up a job in one of 19 notified countries must first get emigration clearance. Among them are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain.[15] The same document lists Protector of Emigrants offices in both Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram.[15] Emigration clearance runs through the e-Migrate system and your recruiting agent or employer. A flight reservation from us plays no part in it, so please do not buy one for that purpose.
Which routes from COK read naturally on an itinerary?
CIAL's own figures show how Gulf-heavy Kochi is. For the winter schedule running from 26 October 2025 to 28 March 2026, it listed 25 international carriers. Abu Dhabi had 67 weekly operations, Dubai 45, Doha 38, Kuala Lumpur 32 and Muscat 25, with Singapore, Male, Bangkok and Jeddah also on the map.[14] Treat those numbers as a guide to the pattern rather than this month's exact count; CIAL publishes a new schedule every season.
The airlines' pages confirm the big links. Emirates sells Kochi–Dubai flights and describes the service as 14 flights a week, and Etihad sells Kochi–Abu Dhabi.[16][17] In practice that gives a Kerala traveller three sensible patterns:
- Europe via the Gulf: Kochi to Abu Dhabi, Dubai or Doha, then on to Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Milan or Paris. This is the most common shape for a Schengen reservation from COK.
- UK via the Gulf: the same hubs, then onward to London or Manchester.
- Asia-Pacific via Southeast Asia: Kochi to Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Bangkok, then onward to Japan or Australia.
Starting the reservation at COK makes sense if that is where you will really fly from. If you live in Kozhikode or Thiruvananthapuram and plan to use those airports, build the itinerary from there instead. The point is to match the trip you will actually take.

Example: an Infopark engineer planning Germany
Suppose an engineer working at Infopark in Kakkanad wants ten days in Germany over Christmas, landing in Frankfurt on 19 December and flying home on 29 December. Her VFS Cochin appointment is on 24 November.
We would suggest ordering the reservation on 21 or 22 November, not at the start of the month. Kochi–Abu Dhabi–Frankfurt and back is a believable routing. Her leave letter from the employer, the hotel bookings for every night, and travel insurance with at least €30,000 cover should all show 19 to 29 December. If she is also spending two nights in Amsterdam, the reservation or a separate train booking should show that leg too, because she is still applying to Germany as the main destination.
Example: Thrissur parents visiting a daughter in Leeds
Now take a retired couple from Thrissur whose daughter is a nurse in Leeds. They book the VFS centre in Cochin. GOV.UK treats flight bookings as less useful evidence, so their effort is better spent on the daughter's invitation letter, her status in the UK and their own bank and pension records.[2]
If they still want a reservation in the file to show a four-week visit, one ordered a few days before the appointment does no harm. Once the visa arrives, they buy a real ticket for their own dates, perhaps through Doha or Abu Dhabi from COK. Our honest opinion: for UK visitor visas, spend money on the real ticket after the decision, not on paperwork before it.
How to order from anywhere in Kerala
- Work out which mission decides your file using the table above.
- Read that mission's checklist and note the exact flight wording.
- Enter route, dates and travellers on our booking page. Copy each name from the passport's bio page, including any surname that sits in the given-name field.
- Pay ₹699 per passenger with Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM or any UPI app, an Indian debit or credit card, or netbanking. A multi-city route is charged ₹699 per pair of legs; see the price page.
- Check your email about 10 minutes later. You can follow progress on order tracking.
- Pull up the booking on the airline's website using your surname and the booking reference. Our guide to verifying a reservation shows what to look for.
Timing your order around the appointment
Book it close to the date. Holds last two weeks at most, with the airline fixing the precise window. For a VFS Cochin or Thiruvananthapuram appointment, two or three days before is about right. If your appointment gets moved, or the mission writes asking for an updated itinerary weeks later, order a new one at that point rather than trying to stretch the old one. We'd rather you pay ₹699 twice than submit a booking that has quietly lapsed.
Mistakes we see from Kerala applicants
- Following the wrong Italian checklist. Kerala goes to Mumbai, not Bengaluru.[9]
- Assuming German national visas are handled in Chennai. For Kerala, it is Bengaluru.[5]
- Buying non-refundable Gulf-hub fares before a Schengen or UK decision.
- Names split differently from the passport, which is common with Kerala naming patterns such as house names or initials. Our name format guide helps.
- Using edited PDFs or free generators. We do not make fake or altered tickets, and a PNR the airline has no record of can count against you.
Kochi FAQ
Do you have an office in Kochi where I can collect the reservation?
No. DummyTicketPrice works only online, with no branch in Kochi or anywhere else in Kerala. You order on the website, pay through Razorpay with UPI, an Indian card or netbanking, and the reservation arrives as a PDF by email in about 10 minutes. Print it at home or at any print shop near the visa centre.
Which UK visa centres can Kerala residents use?
VFS Global lists standard UK visa application centres in Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram, plus a premium application centre in Calicut on scheduled days; check VFS's current list for any others. Premium centres charge more. Book whichever is nearest, and remember that GOV.UK does not treat a flight booking as important evidence for an ordinary visit.
Can I apply for a German Schengen visa at VFS Cochin?
Yes. VFS lists a Cochin centre for Germany, and the German missions say Mumbai's Consulate General decides Schengen files from every Indian VFS centre. The tourism list wants a flight reservation and notes that early ticket purchases win no priority.
Where do Kerala residents apply for an Italian visa?
Kerala is under the Italian Consulate General in Mumbai, according to the Italian consulate in Bengaluru. You can still submit at VFS Cochin, which is listed among Mumbai's centres. You need to have lived legally in that consular district for at least the last six months.
Is my US visa interview in Kochi?
No. Kerala is in the US Consulate General Chennai's district, so interviews happen in Chennai. US guidance is to secure the visa first and pay for flights afterwards, and the DS-160 only asks for intended dates. A reservation is optional for this interview.
Can I pay ₹699 using Google Pay or PhonePe?
Yes. Our Razorpay checkout accepts any UPI app, including Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm and BHIM, as well as Indian debit and credit cards and netbanking. The fee is ₹699 for every traveller named on the reservation, whether it is a one-way or a return journey.
Do I need a reservation for emigration clearance on e-Migrate?
No. Emigration clearance for ECR passport holders going to work in notified countries is handled through e-Migrate with your employer or registered recruiting agent. MEA lists Protector of Emigrants offices in Cochin and Thiruvananthapuram. A held flight reservation from us is not part of that process.
Can I fly out of Kochi on the reservation?
No. Because nothing has been paid, check-in staff at COK will turn it away. After your visa is approved, buy the actual ticket for your travel dates, on the same route or a different one. If the visa comes with different dates from those you asked for, plan the real booking around the visa rather than the reservation.
Order your Kochi reservation
No office visit needed. ₹699 a traveller, verifiable with the airline.
Keep in mind: no reservation, from us or anyone else, can make a visa certain. Describe it as a reservation, keep the dates consistent across your documents, and let the mission decide.
