Thai Airways turns up in two kinds of visa files. The first is a trip to Thailand itself, where the flight question is really about the 30-day visa exemption and the onward-travel proof Thai immigration can ask for. The second is a journey that connects in Bangkok, to Europe, East Asia or Australia, where the destination's own rules apply. This guide covers both. It explains how THAI's My Trips lookup works, the airline's unusually detailed name rules, what THAI itself checks at the counter, and when holding a reservation suffices and when it doesn't. Every rule is linked to the official page we read in October 2026.
Thai Airways and Thailand entry: the short version
| Point | What THAI or the Thai government says |
|---|---|
| Finding a booking | My Trips on thaiairways.com: booking reference (six characters, e.g. 6D3BPR) plus last name.[1] |
| Name rules | Must match the passport exactly; no abbreviations, hyphens or apostrophes; "FNU" or "LNU" for single names; one-letter surnames doubled. Online, no name change after booking.[2] |
| Booking window | From 12 months to 6 hours before departure (2 hours on Thai domestic flights); up to 9 passengers per booking.[3] |
| Check-in | "A return ticket or proof of onward travel need to be presented at check-in."[3] |
| 24-hour hold | In THAI's US customer service plan: bookings made a week or more ahead may be held unpaid, or cancelled at no charge, for 24 hours or longer.[4] |
| Thailand visa exemption | From 15 September 2026, eligible passports get up to 30 days; arrivals must show an onward flight inside that period and where they're staying. TDAC within 3 days before arrival.[7] |
| Alliance | Star Alliance.[6] |
What is a Thai Airways dummy ticket?
A booking on scheduled TG flights, made in your name and not paid for. We build it for the route and dates you give us and email a PDF showing the flights, times and booking reference, which THAI calls the reservation code.[5] Since it exists in THAI's system, My Trips will find it.
Unpaid means it can't be used to travel. It also has a limited life: our reservations stay valid for up to two weeks, and THAI decides the exact period for each one. That's enough for a visa appointment, but not for the trip itself. Before you fly you'll need a real ticket.
THAI suits travellers whose plans genuinely run through Bangkok. That could be a week in Phuket, a Delhi to Seoul trip with a Suvarnabhumi connection, or a European holiday flown via Bangkok. THAI's own terms mention self-service kiosks in Copenhagen, Frankfurt and London alongside Bangkok and Narita, which gives a sense of where it flies.[3] Ask for the airline you would actually choose.
How do you check a booking on thaiairways.com?
THAI keeps it simple. Its My Trips page needs just two things from you: the booking reference and the last name.[1]
- Go to thaiairways.com and choose Manage Booking, or open My Trips directly.
- In "Booking Ref.", type the six-character code from the PDF.
- Enter the surname as written on the booking.
- Press Manage Booking and compare the itinerary with your application.
A page that shows "Booking Confirmed" with your route is what you're looking for. If nothing loads, the usual suspects are a mistyped character or a surname that includes a space or prefix. Try the surname exactly as printed, then contact us with the reference. For other airlines and stubborn errors, see our guide to checking a reservation before you submit it.
One habit we recommend: take a screenshot of the My Trips page the evening before your appointment. If the officer has a question, you can show what the airline's own site displayed.
Want a THAI reservation for your application?
Booking reference you can look up on thaiairways.com, in your names. ₹699 or $9 per passenger.
How strict is THAI about names?
Very, and it says so in writing. THAI's name-filling instructions for online bookings call an exact match between the booking and the travel document mandatory, warn that a mismatch can mean delays or refused boarding, and state that once a booking is completed, the name can't be changed.[2] The same page sets out formats that are worth knowing:
- No abbreviations or special characters. Write names in full and drop hyphens and apostrophes.[2]
- Middle names go into the first-name field after the first name.[2]
- No first name in the passport: THAI uses "FNU" (first name unknown) in the first-name field.[2]
- No last name: "LNU" goes in the last-name field.[2]
- One-letter surname: doubled, so "T" becomes "TT".[2]
- Length: first and last name together must not exceed 48 characters on a regular booking.[2]
Some Indian passports carry only one name, and this is where THAI's format helps. Say the passport shows only SELVI, with no surname. On a THAI booking you'd expect FNU as the first name and SELVI as the last name. Tell us on the order form that the passport has a single name and we'll follow the airline's convention. The name format guide has more of these cases.
Can THAI hold a booking for you?
Only in a narrow sense. THAI's customer service plan, written for flights to and from the United States, says that for reservations made seven days or more before departure, THAI will hold the reservation at the quoted fare without payment, or let you cancel without penalty, for at least 24 hours.[4] For a ticket that includes a US flight, it also allows cancellation without a service fee if you tell THAI within 24 hours of booking.[4]
We couldn't find a general paid fare-hold product on THAI's site for other routes. THAI's main terms move straight from reservation rules to full payment by card, digital wallet or, in some markets, QR code.[3] Refunds on paid tickets go through THAI ticketing offices to the original card, and a refund fee may apply.[3]
| Approach | What it costs | How long | Good for | Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Our THAI reservation | ₹699 / $9 per passenger | Up to 2 weeks; THAI decides the exact period | Visa files asking for a reservation or itinerary | Not valid for check-in or the border |
| THAI 24-hour hold (US plan) | Nothing during the hold[4] | At least 24 hours[4] | Deciding on a fare | Written for US services; too short for visas |
| Paid THAI ticket | Full fare; refund fee may apply[3] | Until travel | Check-in and arrival in Thailand | Money tied up before the visa |
What does Thailand ask for on arrival?
This is where Thailand differs from a typical embassy file. Under the visa exemption scheme effective 15 September 2026, eligible passport holders can enter for up to 30 days for tourism, and the Royal Thai Embassy in London explains that arriving visitors must show where they will stay and a journey out of Thailand dated within 30 days of landing. Officers may also ask for proof of funds of 20,000 baht per person or interview you, and the scheme can be used only twice in a calendar year.[7] Thailand's foreign ministry summary of the 2026 changes lists India among the 30-day visa-free countries.[8]
Every arriving foreign traveller must also complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card within three days before arrival. It's free, and it isn't a visa.[7]
Then there's the airline side. THAI's own terms say that "a return ticket or proof of onward travel need to be presented at check-in", and that THAI may refuse copies of travel documents.[3] Put plainly, both the airline and Thai immigration can look at your onward flight. Our honest advice: for the actual journey to Thailand, carry a paid onward or return ticket. A held reservation may not satisfy a check-in agent or an immigration officer, and the reservation may have lapsed by your travel date anyway. Where a reservation earns its place is earlier, in a visa application that asks for an itinerary.

What if you're only connecting in Bangkok?
Then Thai entry rules usually don't come into it, unless you leave the airport. THAI's terms say that passengers transiting or transferring at Suvarnabhumi who want to pass through immigration must comply with Thai immigration and customs formalities, re-check in on the fourth floor, and pay airport tax and fees.[3] If you stay airside on a through booking, your visa question is about the final destination.
That has a practical consequence for your reservation. Keep both flights on the same booking, with a connection that doesn't force you out of the terminal. A 90-minute or three-hour transfer looks like a connection. A 20-hour gap on separate bookings looks like a stopover in Thailand, and an officer may reasonably ask whether you hold the right permission to enter.
One more rule in THAI's terms is worth knowing for the real trip later. If you don't show up for a flight without telling THAI first, your return or onward reservations are cancelled automatically.[3] That applies to paid tickets, not to the visa reservation, but it catches travellers who skip the first leg of a return ticket.
Which other visa applications suit a THAI reservation?
Bangkok works as a connecting point for plenty of trips from South Asia. The airline doesn't decide visas; THAI's travel documents page tells passengers to check requirements with the embassy concerned, and expects passports to have more than six months' validity.[9] Here's how a reservation fits common destinations:
| Destination | What the official source says | Is a held reservation enough? |
|---|---|---|
| Thailand (visa application) | Where a visa is needed, follow the Thai mission's checklist wording. | Yes where it asks for an itinerary or reservation. |
| Thailand (arrival, visa-exempt) | Onward travel within 30 days, accommodation, possibly funds.[7] | No. Carry a paid ticket out. |
| Schengen via Bangkok | Netherlands: a reservation in your name, no paid ticket needed.[11] | Yes where the checklist says so. |
| UK via Bangkok | The Home Office's guide doesn't treat flight bookings as strong evidence.[12] | Optional; don't rely on it. |
On Schengen timing, the Commission's rules apply whatever the airline: the earliest lodging date is six months before travel and the latest is 15 days before; a 15-day decision is normal, 45 the outer limit.[10] Our Schengen guide quotes each consulate, while requirements by country deals with destinations outside Europe.
Before you submit: a THAI-specific checklist
- Names written in full with no hyphens or apostrophes, in THAI's format.
- Single-name passports handled with FNU or LNU as THAI specifies.
- Bangkok connections of a sensible length, with no overnight gap you can't explain.
- Dates that line up with your hotels and insurance.
- My Trips still finding the booking the evening before your appointment.
Avoid these:
- Using the reservation as your onward proof when actually flying into Thailand.
- A booking ordered so early that it lapses before the officer looks.
- Any "free generator" code. It won't load in My Trips, and fake documents can sink an application.
For problems already in motion, see common rejection reasons and fixes.
When is the right time to order?
A few days before the appointment, not weeks. Example: your Schengen biometrics are booked for Wednesday 19 November, with a Delhi to Frankfurt trip via Bangkok planned for mid-December. Order the THAI reservation on Sunday the 16th, check My Trips on Tuesday night, and print it. If you're travelling visa-free to Thailand instead, you don't need a reservation at all. You need a real onward ticket bought before you fly.
Price and ordering
Same price for every airline, per passenger, one way or return:
Each pair of legs on a multi-city trip is priced on its own. If you also need proof of accommodation, hotel bookings are priced per stay, per traveller. The price page has the full breakdown.
- Start on our booking page; add the cities, the dates and Thai Airways as your airline.
- Enter names in full as the passport shows them, and flag single-name passports.
- Choose UPI, a debit or credit card, or netbanking at checkout; payments run through Razorpay.
- The PDF usually reaches you in about 10 minutes; follow it on order tracking.
- Look it up in My Trips with the booking reference and your last name.
The consulate decides the visa, and immigration decides entry. We supply a real, checkable booking that matches your file. If you want the bigger picture, start with flight reservations for visas, then onward tickets, or go back to the home page.
Thai Airways dummy ticket: FAQ
How do I check a Thai Airways reservation?
Open My Trips on thaiairways.com, enter the six-character booking reference in the "Booking Ref." box and your last name, then press Manage Booking. The page should show your route, dates and passengers. Check it the evening before your appointment, since reservations don't stay open indefinitely.
Can I use a THAI reservation as onward proof when flying to Thailand?
We wouldn't. THAI's terms say a return ticket or proof of onward travel must be shown at check-in, and Thai immigration can ask for onward travel within 30 days. A held reservation may not satisfy either check, and it may have lapsed by then. Buy a real ticket out before you travel.
What if my passport has only one name?
THAI's name instructions cover it. With no first name, "FNU" goes in the first-name field and your name in the last-name field; with no last name, "LNU" goes in the last-name field. Tell us on the order form and we'll follow THAI's format so the booking matches your passport.
Can I change the name after booking?
THAI's online-booking instructions say a name can't be changed once the booking is completed, so get it right first. With us, you check the details before the reservation is issued. If something is wrong after that, contact us quickly and we'll advise whether a fresh reservation is needed.
Does THAI offer a free 24-hour hold?
Its customer service plan for US flights says a booking made a week or more ahead can sit unpaid at the quoted fare, or be dropped at no cost, for a minimum of 24 hours. We couldn't find a general hold product for other routes. Either way, 24 hours is too short to cover a visa decision.
Is India on Thailand's 30-day visa-free list?
Thailand's foreign ministry summary of the scheme effective 15 September 2026 lists India among the 30-day visa-free countries. You still need onward travel within 30 days, proof of accommodation, possibly proof of funds, and a TDAC filed within three days before arrival.
How long is a THAI reservation valid?
Up to two weeks, with THAI deciding the exact period for each booking. Order it a few days before your appointment, Should the embassy want fresh flight details later, a new reservation is simpler than stretching the old one. A quick look in My Trips the evening before submission confirms it is still live.
