Dummy Ticket for Brazil Visa: Indian Passports, the 10-Year Visa and Your Flights

Indian passport holders need a Brazilian visit visa, applied for through e-consular at either Brazil's New Delhi embassy or its Mumbai consulate general. Since a January 2026 agreement, Brazil can issue Indians multiple-entry tourism and business visas for up to ten years. Expect 10 to 15 business days; book flights after approval.

Brazil changed two things for Indian travellers recently. Visas are now applied for through an online system called e-consular, where documents are checked before you ever get an appointment. And since early 2026 a reciprocal agreement lets Brazil issue Indians visit visas lasting up to ten years. Both affect how you handle the flight part of your file, so we'll take them in order, quote what the official pages say, and be clear about the one point we could not confirm directly.

Who needs a Brazil visa?

On an Indian passport, the answer is yes. The ten-year agreement described below exists precisely because Indians still need a Brazilian visa for tourism and business, and the embassy's visa section deals with those applications daily.[1][4] Indians resident in the Gulf follow the same rule; your residence permit changes where you apply, not whether you need a visa.

Other passports differ. Brazilian citizens, of course, need nothing, and our guide for Brazilian travellers covers their trips abroad. For any other nationality, check Brazil's rules for that passport rather than assuming they match India's.

What changed with the ten-year visa?

On 16 January 2026 Brazil's official gazette, the Diário Oficial da União, published an agreement by exchange of notes between the two governments. India's note of 24 November 2025 said India had approved ten-year, multiple-entry business and tourism visas for Brazilians and asked Brazil to do the same for Indian passports. Brazil's ambassador accepted on 7 January 2026, and the agreement took effect 30 days after India's foreign ministry received that reply.[1]

What does that mean in practice? "Up to" is the key phrase. The agreement sets the maximum; the embassy still decides each application, and a first-time applicant should not assume the longest validity. The practical win is for repeat visitors: a family with relatives in São Paulo, or a sales manager covering Latin America, may apply once and travel many times.

A long visa also changes the flight question. Your first application needs travel dates; later trips on the same visa need no new application, only a real ticket for the airline and the border.

How does e-consular work in Delhi and Mumbai?

Both Indian posts route applications through e-consular, an online request system run by Brazil's foreign ministry. The order of events is what catches people out:

  1. Create an account and choose the visa service.
  2. Fill in the request and upload images of your original documents.
  3. Submit for a prior review of the documents.
  4. Wait for the system's confirmation email.
  5. Only after validation, receive an email allowing you to book an in-person appointment.
  6. Bring the originals on the day.

That sequence is spelled out on the Mumbai consulate's e-consular page, which also says every consular service must be requested and scheduled there.[3] New Delhi's page adds that walk-ins are not taken for ordinary visas and warns of 10 to 15 business days' processing.[2]

Here's why that matters for flights. Your reservation is uploaded at step 2, but your appointment comes after step 5, which could be a week or more later. A held booking may have lapsed by then. We'd make the reservation just before uploading, then keep an eye on it; if the review drags on, ask us to reissue for the same dates before you go in.

What does Brazil say about flight tickets?

This is the one point we could not verify first-hand. The Embassy in New Delhi publishes its checklist on its gov.br visa page, and when we tried to read it in October 2026 the site showed a security check rather than the text.[4] Search-engine summaries of that page, and copies of the checklist circulating online, describe the travel item as flight tickets to and from Brazil, plus flights within Brazil where relevant. We have not quoted it as official wording for that reason.

Two things follow, whichever exact words appear:

  • Show the whole route. If you fly Mumbai–São Paulo, then São Paulo–Foz do Iguaçu, then Rio–Mumbai, the internal legs belong in the file too.
  • "Tickets" can mean paid tickets. If the checklist inside your e-consular request says tickets, ask the post whether a reservation will do. Do not label a reservation as a ticket in your cover letter.

Our view: a verifiable reservation shows the route and dates without risking money on a visa that is not yet granted. If the post tells you it wants a paid itinerary, buy a refundable fare and keep the refund terms with your papers.

Reservation, refundable fare or paid ticket for Brazil?

OptionCost if the visa is refusedFits the e-consular upload?Use it for
Verifiable reservation (live PNR)Only the reservation feeShows route and dates; the post decides if it meets the checklistFirst application, multi-leg trips
Refundable fareCancellation charges per fare rulesA real ticket, so it meets any "tickets" wordingPosts that ask for paid tickets
Non-refundable ticketUsually the whole fareMeets the wordingAfter approval, for the actual trip
The consular officer decides what the file needs. Fare rules come from the airline.

With a long multi-entry visa now possible, the stakes of a refusal are higher than the price of any single booking. We would spend the effort on a clean, consistent file first: dates on the form, reservation, hotel and leave letter all saying the same thing.

Applying for a Brazil visa from the UAE, Saudi Arabia or Oman

If you live in the Gulf, apply through the Brazilian post that serves your country of residence. Each one runs its own e-consular site:

  • Embassy in Abu Dhabi: dates are not offered straight away. You upload your documents first, staff check them, and only then are you emailed to pick a slot. Bring all originals on the day.[5]
  • Embassy in Riyadh: sign in with a GOV.BR account, upload scans, and after approval choose either an in-person visit or, for some services, sending papers by post or courier.[6]
  • Embassy in Muscat: the e-consular page was marked as under construction when we checked, with a link to the embassy's gov.br page.[7]

Residents of Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain should start from the e-consular post chooser and select the mission accredited to their country. Whatever the post, your reservation should depart from and return to the Gulf city where you live, and your residence permit should comfortably outlast the trip. Our Gulf expats guide goes into residence-permit timing.

Routes from India and what the airline checks

There is no single obvious route. Indians typically connect through a Gulf hub, a European hub or Addis Ababa on the way to São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. Each connection has its own transit rules, so check the connecting airport's requirements for your passport before you buy anything; our transit and layover guide explains the checks. Routing through the US would need a US visa.

At check-in, the airline will look for a valid Brazilian visa in your passport. Airlines also check whether passengers can leave their destination, and a return or onward booking answers that question; our piece on airline versus immigration checks explains who asks what. Once your visa is granted, buy the real ticket and travel on it.

If you are combining Brazil with Argentina, Peru or Chile, each country has its own rules for Indian passports. See our guides for Argentina, Peru and Chile, and use a multi-city reservation so each border shows on one document.

Gulf-based applicants combining Brazil with a stopover should also think about the return. If your reservation flies São Paulo–Dubai–Mumbai because you are visiting family in India on the way home, say so in the cover letter, and show that you will still be back in the Gulf before your residence permit runs out.

Step by step: Brazil visa with a flight reservation

1
Open e-consular for your post

New Delhi, Mumbai, or your Gulf mission. Read the service instructions there.

2
Fix the route, including domestic legs

Entry city, internal flights, exit city.

3
Book the reservation the day before uploading

Names exactly as in the passport.

4
Upload and wait for validation

Check the PNR still opens before your in-person slot.

5
After approval, buy the actual flight

The reservation was for the file, not for flying.

Where Brazil files go wrong on the flight side

None of these is dramatic on its own. Together they make an officer doubt the plan.

  • Internal legs missing. The itinerary says Rio, Salvador and Manaus, but the reservation shows only Mumbai–São Paulo return. Put the domestic hops in.
  • Entry and exit cities that contradict the hotels. Arriving in São Paulo with the first three nights booked in Rio needs a visible link between the two.
  • A reservation that lapsed during the review. The e-consular check sits between upload and appointment, so recheck before you go in.
  • Spelling drift. "Mohd" on the booking, "Mohammed" in the passport. Copy the passport's machine-readable line exactly.
  • Calling the reservation a ticket. In your cover letter, write "flight reservation" or "proposed itinerary".

Say your trip runs 10 to 24 March: the form, the reservation, the hotel vouchers and your employer's leave letter should all show 10 and 24 March. If one of them says 25, fix it before uploading rather than explaining it at the counter.

Travelling again on a long Brazil visa

If you receive a multi-year visa, later trips are simpler: no new application, so no new reservation for a consulate. What you need then is a real ticket and the visa in a valid passport. Check two things before each trip. First, that the visa is still within its validity on your arrival date. Second, if you have renewed your passport since, ask the airline and the Brazilian post how to travel with a visa in the old one, and carry both passports. Airlines see these cases at check-in all the time, and a five-minute call beats an argument at the counter.

What your Brazil reservation should contain

  • Each traveller's full passport name; married couples and children all on the booking.
  • The arrival city in Brazil and the departure city, with any domestic flights between.
  • Dates matching the e-consular form, hotel bookings and cover letter.
  • A six-character airline reference you have opened yourself on the carrier's website. Our verification guide shows how.

Getting a Brazil flight reservation: cost and delivery

Our team books a held itinerary, with a working PNR, on the route you choose: for example Bengaluru to São Paulo with a Rio return, or Abu Dhabi to Rio and back. It is checkable on the airline's site and is not a paid ticket.

Each traveller pays once for a single or round-trip route, and multi-city itineraries are counted in pairs of legs, as the price page explains. Payment goes through Razorpay (UPI, cards, netbanking), and delivery normally takes about 10 minutes. The airline decides how long a hold lasts, up to two weeks, which is why timing around the e-consular review matters. Need accommodation proof too? Frequently asked questions

Do Indians need a visa for Brazil in 2026?

Yes. Indian passport holders apply for a Brazilian visit visa through e-consular, at Brazil's embassy in the capital or its consulate in Mumbai, or at the Brazilian mission serving their country of residence. What changed in 2026 is the length: tourism and business visas can now be issued for up to ten years.

Is the ten-year Brazil visa automatic?

No. The January 2026 agreement allows Brazil to issue multiple-entry tourism and business visas to Indians for up to ten years. It sets a ceiling, not an entitlement. The embassy or consulate still assesses each application and decides the validity it grants.

Will e-consular take a reservation in place of a ticket?

Often that is what applicants do, but we could not read the New Delhi checklist directly to confirm its exact words. If the list inside your e-consular request says "tickets", ask the post whether a reservation is acceptable. If they insist on a paid ticket, use a refundable fare.

How long does a Brazil visa take from India?

The New Delhi e-consular page warns that processing may take 10 to 15 business days because of demand. That clock starts at the in-person stage, after your uploaded documents are validated, so allow extra time for the review before it.

My reservation expired during the e-consular review. What now?

It happens, because the review sits between uploading and your appointment. Ask for a fresh reservation on the same dates and bring the new copy, checking that it opens on the airline's site. Explain the change if asked; it is a timing issue, not a change of plan.

I live in Saudi Arabia. Where do I apply?

Residents of Saudi Arabia use the e-consular site of the Brazilian Embassy in Riyadh. You sign in with a GOV.BR account, upload scans, and after approval choose an appointment or, for some services, postal submission. Start and end your reservation in Saudi Arabia.

Do I need to show flights within Brazil?

If your trip includes them, yes, it makes sense to show them. Copies of the embassy checklist mention internal flights where relevant, and an officer reading your itinerary will expect to see how you get from city to city.
