This page is for people who live in Warsaw but do not hold a Polish passport: Indian software engineers in Mokotów, Ukrainian families in Praga, Filipino caregivers in Wola, Belarusian students at the university, and everyone else carrying a karta pobytu. Your residence card already does a lot of work inside Europe. The trouble starts when the trip goes somewhere that does not recognise it. Below we cover which applications Warsaw residents still file, where they file them, what each government says about flights, and where a cheap held booking fits. DummyTicketPrice works only online, so there is no Warsaw desk to visit; ordering and delivery both run through email.

Do Warsaw residents need a visa to visit other Schengen countries?
Usually not. The EU's citizen portal explains that once border guards have checked you at the external frontier, you face no further document checks while moving around the Schengen area.[1] A valid Polish residence permit counts as one of those documents. So a long weekend in Prague, Vienna or Lisbon needs a passport, a residence card and nothing from a consulate.
The same page adds a useful extra: a residence permit from a Schengen country can also be used to travel to Cyprus, even though Cyprus has not yet lifted its internal border controls.[1][2] Ireland is different. The European Commission notes that Ireland keeps an opt-out from the Schengen rules, and the Schengen area itself is 29 countries.[2] Dublin therefore needs its own visa if your passport is not visa-free for Ireland.
One honest caveat. Free movement on a residence card still has limits on how long you can stay in another member state, and those limits are set by EU and national law rather than by us. If you are planning a long stay elsewhere in Europe, check with the authority of that country.
Which visas do Warsaw residents actually apply for?
In practice, the destinations outside Schengen. Here is how the main ones compare for a third-country national living in Poland.
| Destination | Where you apply from Warsaw | What the government says about flights | Our honest view |
|---|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | Online, then biometrics with VFS Global in Poland[3] | "You should not book your travel until you get a decision"; flight bookings sit among documents to avoid, unless transiting[4][6] | Optional; useful only to keep dates consistent |
| United States | US Embassy Warsaw or Consulate General Kraków[7] | Do not buy tickets until you have a visa[8] | Not needed; optional at the interview |
| Canada | Online with IRCC; biometrics at VFS in Poland[9][12] | Suggests copies of flight details or other proof of your plans[9] | A reservation is a sensible fit |
| Ireland | Irish visa route for your nationality; not covered by Schengen[2] | We could not load the Irish embassy's Poland page in October 2026 | Follow the Irish checklist you are given |
| Cyprus | Usually no separate visa with a valid Schengen residence permit[1] | Not applicable | Nothing to buy |
How does a UK visa application work from Poland?
You apply online, then attend a visa application centre in Poland to give fingerprints and a photo. GOV.UK's centre finder links applicants in Poland to VFS Global's UK pages for that step.[3] Standard Visitor applicants may file up to three months ahead of the trip, and GOV.UK expects most decisions inside three weeks.[5]
On flights, the UK is unusually direct. Its visa pages say you should not book travel until there is a decision, and add that UKVI will not refund travel costs if an application is refused or delayed.[4] The supporting-documents guide goes further and lists "flight bookings (unless transiting)" among things you should not send as evidence.[6]
So does a UK file from Warsaw need our reservation? Mostly no. Where we see it help is consistency: some people like their cover letter, leave approval and hotel to point at one set of dates, and a held booking costs less than any fare. If you leave it out, you lose nothing. If you include it, call it a reservation.
What the UK guide does want from expats is proof of where you live. Non-nationals applying from a third country are asked to confirm that they live there lawfully.[6] For a Warsaw resident that means a clear copy of the residence card, front and back, and ideally the decision that granted it. This matters far more than any flight document.
Can I get a US visa in Warsaw if I am not Polish?
Yes. The US Embassy in Poland says applicants who are not Polish citizens may schedule an interview at the embassy in Warsaw or the consulate general in Kraków, even if they do not currently live in Poland.[7] Appointments come in two categories, "regular" and "non-resident", and the embassy asks you to choose carefully. Interviews are generally held in Polish or English, with Russian also offered in Warsaw.[7] One practical detail: since November 2024 the Warsaw embassy takes cash for consular services in zloty only.[7]
Flights are not part of the US file. Washington's guidance is to hold off on tickets while the visa is pending.[8] Want a printout showing a short, fixed trip anyway? A held booking is harmless, though we would never call it necessary here. The officer is looking at your job in Warsaw, your residence status and your reasons to return.
What does Canada expect from applicants living in Poland?
Canada's visitor visa application is online, and most applicants then give biometrics at a visa application centre. VFS Global runs Canada's application centre service in Poland.[12] IRCC tells visitors that flight details, an accommodation booking or an event registration can help show the purpose and length of the trip.[9]
That is the clearest case on this page for a held reservation. It shows a Warsaw departure, a Canadian arrival and a return before your residence card expires, without committing to a fare while IRCC decides. LOT itself lists Canada among its long-haul markets, so a nonstop or one-stop routing will look ordinary.[11]
Which routes from Warsaw Chopin read naturally on a reservation?
Pick what you would really fly. Chopin is LOT's home airport, and the airline's summer 2026 announcement says its offer includes direct long-haul flights to the United States, Canada, India, Japan and South Korea.[11] That covers a lot of expat journeys: a trip home to Delhi, a family visit in Toronto or Chicago, a conference in Tokyo.
- London: many carriers link Warsaw and London; for a UK file a simple WAW to London return keeps the paperwork tidy.
- North America: a LOT long-haul from WAW, or a connection through a western European hub, both look normal.
- India: people combining a UK or US trip with a visit home sometimes need an open-jaw. Our open-jaw guide explains how that reads on a visa file.
Flying from Kraków, Gdańsk or Wrocław instead? Use that airport. A reservation that starts from a city you never use only raises a question you then have to answer.

Example: an engineer in Mokotów visiting London
Say Arjun, an Indian national, works for a software firm in Mokotów on a temporary residence card valid until next August. He wants five days in London in early December for a friend's wedding. He applies online in mid-October, which is within the three-month window, and books a biometrics slot with VFS in Warsaw.[3][5]
His file leads with what the UK guide asks for: the residence card and its decision, payslips, a leave letter from his employer and the wedding invitation.[6] He decides a flight document is not worth sending, which matches GOV.UK. Had he wanted one for his own cover letter, we would hold WAW to London on his December dates two or three days before the biometrics appointment, and he would buy a real fare only after the visa arrived.[4] That way nothing is wasted if the decision comes later than planned.
Example: a caregiver in Wola visiting family in Chicago
Picture Maria, a Filipino caregiver living in Wola, whose sister lives near Chicago. Maria is not Polish, so she books a regular appointment at the US Embassy in Warsaw rather than flying home to Manila for it.[7] Her DS-160 lists approximate dates for a two-week trip in spring.
We would tell Maria to keep her money for now. No flight booking is required, and the State Department's advice is to wait for the visa.[8] Her time is better spent on the employment contract, the residence card and evidence that her job in Warsaw continues after the trip. If she feels calmer carrying a held booking to show the fixed dates, ordering it two days before the interview is plenty.
Your residence card matters more than the flight
For an expat, the residence document is the backbone of every application filed from Poland. Three small checks save a lot of grief.
- Return date inside validity. Keep the return flight on your reservation comfortably before the card expires. An itinerary that brings you back after expiry invites an obvious question.
- Pending renewals. If your card is being renewed, carry the paperwork that shows the renewal is in progress and check the destination's rules on it before applying.
- Name spelling. Copy the Latin-script name exactly as it appears in your passport's machine-readable zone. Polish documents may render names differently.

$9 per traveller, held under a live PNR and emailed in about 10 minutes.
How do I order a reservation from Warsaw?
- Read your checklist first. If the destination does not want flights (as with the UK and the US), decide whether you need one at all.
- Open the booking page and enter WAW, or the Polish airport you will really use, plus your dates.
- Add every traveller exactly as each passport shows, children included.
- Pay $9 per passenger by card through Razorpay. The price page lists every currency we charge in.
- Check your inbox about 10 minutes later and look in spam if nothing arrives.
- Open the PNR on the airline's site using its Manage booking page. Our verification guide walks through it.
Order status is available on the tracking page at any time.
When should a Warsaw resident book it?
Late, not early. Warsaw holds, like all of ours, last for up to 2 weeks; the airline decides the exact period, and it varies by carrier and fare. For a Canadian file, book a few days before you submit online or attend biometrics. For a UK file that includes one by choice, book in the week of the VFS appointment. If a decision drags and you need fresh dates, order a new reservation rather than editing the old PDF.
Mistakes we see from Poland-based applicants
- Sending a flight booking as the centrepiece of a UK file. GOV.UK calls it weak evidence; your residence and finances carry the weight.
- Buying a non-refundable fare before the decision. Both London and Washington warn against it.
- Forgetting the residence card copy. For expats, this is the first thing a caseworker looks for.
- Using an edited or generated PDF. A document no airline can retrieve damages your credibility.
Warsaw FAQ
Do I need a visa for Germany or Italy if I live in Warsaw?
Usually not for a short visit. A valid residence permit from a Schengen state, such as a Polish karta pobytu, lets you travel within the Schengen area, and the EU says there are no further document checks after the external border. Carry your passport and residence card. Longer stays or work elsewhere follow other rules.
Where do I give biometrics for a UK visa in Poland?
GOV.UK's visa application centre finder points applicants in Poland to VFS Global, which runs the UK centre service there. You complete the form on GOV.UK first, then book a biometrics slot. Remember to bring proof of your legal residence in Poland, because the UK guide asks non-nationals for it.
Can a non-Polish resident book a US visa interview in Warsaw?
Yes. The US Embassy in Poland says non-citizens can book at the Warsaw embassy or the Kraków consulate, even without living in Poland. There are "regular" and "non-resident" appointment types, so pick the right one. A flight booking is not required for the interview, and the State Department advises buying tickets only after the visa.
Is a reservation useful for a Canada visitor visa from Poland?
It can be. IRCC suggests including copies of flight details or other evidence of your travel plans. A held booking from Warsaw shows your dates and return without paying for a fare during processing. Book it a few days before you submit, and keep the return before your residence card expires.
How much is a reservation in Poland?
$9 per passenger for a one-way or return itinerary. Multi-city routings cost $9 for each two sectors; hotel holds are priced separately for each stay and traveller. Payment goes through Razorpay by card. We email the PDF in about 10 minutes and you can check the PNR on the airline's site.
Can I board a LOT flight with this reservation?
No. The seat is held, not paid for, so check-in will not accept it. After the visa lands in your passport, purchase an actual fare on whatever dates suit you. You can keep the same route as the reservation or choose another; the reservation does not tie you to anything.
Is DummyTicketPrice based in Warsaw?
No. We are an online service and do not have an office in Poland or anywhere else for walk-in customers. Ordering, payment and delivery all happen through our website and email, and support is on WhatsApp and email seven days a week.
Please note: a reservation is supporting paperwork, nothing more. The consulate or visa office decides your application, and any checklist that asks for a paid or confirmed ticket must be followed as written.
