Let us be straight with you from the first paragraph. Plenty of people fly abroad from Lucknow, yet it is not a consular city. None of the major missions whose rules we checked for this page keeps a visa section here. What Lucknow does have is a short list of application centres run by private companies, and an airport with a strong Gulf network. For a lot of Uttar Pradesh applicants, from Kanpur, Barabanki, Sitapur, Rae Bareli or Ayodhya, the honest answer is that part of the process still runs through New Delhi. This page shows which part, and where a ₹699 flight reservation helps. We work online only, so there is no DummyTicketPrice counter in Hazratganj or anywhere else.
Lucknow at a glance
| Item | Detail (last checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Airport | Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (LKO)[13] |
| US visas for Uttar Pradesh | US Embassy New Delhi[1] |
| German long-stay visas | German Embassy New Delhi (its district includes Uttar Pradesh)[7] |
| Schengen, Netherlands | VFS Global Lucknow is on the Dutch list of Indian centres[10] |
| Schengen, Germany | Any VFS centre in India; decided by the consulate in Mumbai[8] |
| UK | Lucknow and Noida are VFS UK premium centres (extra fee)[4] |
| Spain | BLS lists no Lucknow centre; Delhi is the nearest one on its list[15] |
| Our fee | ₹699 per passenger; UPI, cards or netbanking via Razorpay |
Why does a Lucknow applicant still deal with Delhi?
Because jurisdiction follows your state, and Uttar Pradesh sits in New Delhi's district for the missions that interview people. The US mission's map lists Uttar Pradesh under the embassy in New Delhi, so every US visitor, student or work visa interview for a Lucknow resident happens there.[1] Germany's embassy in New Delhi also names Uttar Pradesh in its consular district, which covers national visas such as study, work and family reunion.[7]
For neither of those do you need to show flights at the interview. Washington's published guidance puts the visa ahead of any airfare.[2] German national-visa checklists are built around admission letters, contracts and blocked accounts. So if your next step is a Delhi interview, keep your ₹699 unless a document list specifically asks for an itinerary.
What can you actually file in Lucknow?
Two things we could confirm from official or provider pages in October 2026:
- Dutch Schengen visas. Netherlands Worldwide lists Lucknow among the twelve Indian VFS centres where you can apply.[10]
- UK visas at a premium centre. VFS Global's May 2026 announcement names Lucknow as one of twelve UK premium application centres in India, alongside Noida. Premium means an extra charge, and VFS states it has no bearing on the decision.[4]
Germany adds a useful flexibility: German short-stay files are accepted at whichever Indian VFS centre you choose, since Mumbai decides all of them.[8] If VFS offers a German counter in Lucknow when you book, you can use it. If not, Delhi is the fallback.
What we could not confirm is just as important. We found no Spanish centre in Lucknow on BLS's own list; its nearest is in Delhi.[15] We could not load VFS's Canada pages for India to check for a Lucknow biometrics site, so please look there yourself before planning a trip.
Lucknow or Delhi: where should you submit?
| Application | In Lucknow? | Delhi option | What the official page says about flights |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netherlands Schengen | Yes, VFS Lucknow[10] | VFS New Delhi | Reservation in your name; "You do not need a paid travel ticket"[10] |
| Germany Schengen | Only if VFS offers a German slot there | Any Indian VFS centre[8] | Tourist checklist item 11: "Flight reservation"[9] |
| United Kingdom | Premium centre, extra fee[4] | Standard VFS centres listed on the UK India pages[3] | Flight bookings, unless transiting, are on the "do not use" list[5] |
| Spain | Not listed[15] | BLS Delhi | Follow your category checklist |
| USA | No | US Embassy interview[1] | Wait for the visa before buying tickets[2] |
| Canada | Not confirmed by us | Check VFS Canada India | IRCC suggests flight details as proof of plans[12] |
Our rule of thumb: if Lucknow offers the service you need at the normal price, use it and save the Shatabdi fare. If it only offers a premium version, weigh the extra fee against a day trip to Delhi.
What do Schengen checklists want from UP applicants?
A reservation, in most cases, and not a paid ticket. The German tourist checklist for India lists "Flight reservation" as item 11.[9] On the Dutch side, the list wants a booking under your name for getting into and out of Schengen, adding that you need not have paid for it.[10] That is exactly what a held booking provides.
Timing comes from Brussels. Files go in no sooner than six months ahead and normally a fortnight or more before you fly; consulates normally answer in 15 days, with an extension to 45 possible.[11] Our view is that a Lucknow family should book the VFS slot first, then order the reservation a few days before it.

Do UK applicants from Lucknow need flights?
Usually no. Britain's own document guide names "flight bookings (unless transiting)" as something to leave out of a visit file.[5] Visitor applications open three months before the travel date, and GOV.UK aims to decide most within three weeks.[6]
The bigger decision for Lucknow is where to give biometrics. Lucknow and Noida are premium centres, so they cost extra.[4] If you would rather pay only the standard charge, VFS's UK pages for India show the standard centres; we could not load them to confirm which is nearest, so check before you book. Either way, the decision is made by UKVI and not by the centre.
Applying from Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi or Gorakhpur?
The same map applies to all of Uttar Pradesh. For homes in Kanpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Ayodhya and Gorakhpur alike, the US and German missions that cover you are in New Delhi.[1][7] Your real choice is only about where you give documents and biometrics: Lucknow, Noida or Delhi.
For eastern UP, Lucknow is often the shorter journey for a Dutch file, while western districts such as Meerut, Ghaziabad or Agra may find Delhi or Noida quicker.[4][10] Think about the return trip too. Some centres keep you most of the morning, and a late train home after a long queue is no fun with elderly parents.
On the reservation itself, start from the airport you will genuinely leave from. A Varanasi family flying out through Delhi can show that domestic sector if it explains the dates, but it is not required by the Schengen checklists, which care about the journey into and out of Europe.[9][10]
Which airport and route should the reservation show?
Match it to how you will really travel. Air India Express's own page for Lucknow lists flights to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras al-Khaimah, Doha, Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.[14] That reflects the city's deep links with the Gulf. For Europe, North America or the UK, most people connect through Delhi, Mumbai or a Gulf hub.
Two options read well on a visa file:
- LKO to a Gulf hub, then onward. A one-stop routing through Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi starts at home and avoids a separate domestic sector.
- LKO to Delhi, then Delhi to Europe. Useful if your form says you depart from Delhi or you have an overnight there. We price it as a multi-city booking, ₹699 for each pair of legs. Our guide to domestic legs explains when the extra sector is worth showing.

Example: a Gomti Nagar doctor going to Amsterdam
Say Dr Fatima, a paediatrician in Gomti Nagar, has a medical conference in Amsterdam in March. Because the Netherlands is her main destination, she books a slot at VFS Lucknow rather than driving to Delhi.[10] She applies in early February, well inside the EU window.[11]
Two days before the appointment she orders a reservation: LKO to Amsterdam via Dubai, back a week later. The conference registration, hotel and insurance show the same dates, and the hospital's leave letter matches. The Dutch list says a paid ticket is not needed, so she buys the real fare only after the visa is issued.[10]
Example: an Aliganj family visiting relatives in Leicester
Now picture a family of three in Aliganj planning three weeks in Leicester during the summer holidays. They can give biometrics at the Lucknow premium centre and pay the extra fee, or travel to a standard centre.[4] They decide the fee is worth avoiding an overnight trip with a child.
For the file, they follow the UK guide: bank statements, the father's employment letter, the school's holiday dates, and the relatives' invitation. They leave out a flight booking, which is what GOV.UK recommends.[5] The family would only need us if they wanted a reservation for their own planning, and even then we would say buy a flexible fare after the visas instead.
Have a VFS slot coming up?
₹699 a head through UPI, card or netbanking; the airline's own site will show the booking.
How do you order from Lucknow?
- Find the flight line on your checklist and note whether it says reservation, itinerary or confirmed ticket.
- Pick your real departure airport, LKO or Delhi, on the booking page, along with the dates on your form.
- Enter each passenger as the passport spells it, given names and surname in the right order.
- Pay ₹699 per head through Razorpay with any UPI app, a card or netbanking.
- Open the PDF we email in about 10 minutes and read every name and date once.
- Retrieve the booking on the airline's website; our checking guide shows where to click.

How close to the appointment should you book?
Within a few days of it. Our holds run for up to 2 weeks, and how long precisely is set by each airline rather than by us. A reservation bought a month before a Lucknow VFS slot may have lapsed by the morning you hand it over. If Mumbai or the Dutch embassy takes longer than usual and wants current plans, just order again.
What should be in your folder on appointment day?
For the travel part of a Schengen file, keep it simple and consistent.
- One printed copy of the reservation, every passenger visible, in colour if the checklist asks for colour copies as the Dutch one does.
- The PNR and airline written on your cover letter, so you can answer quickly if the officer at the counter asks.
- Insurance, hotel bookings and leave letters carrying exactly the same arrival and departure dates.
Do a last lookup on the carrier's website the night before. Airlines do retime flights, and spotting that at home beats spotting it while standing in the centre queue.
One more thing parents ask about: children. Every child named on the visa form needs a seat on the same reservation, spelt as in their own passport. Leaving a toddler off the itinerary is a small mistake that invites a big question.
What should Lucknow applicants avoid?
- Paying a premium fee without realising it. Check whether the UK slot you are booking is at a premium centre.
- Travelling to Delhi for a Dutch file that Lucknow could have taken.
- Agents selling "confirmed" tickets that are edited PDFs. If the airline cannot find the PNR, it hurts you.
- Showing LKO on the reservation and Delhi on the form, or the reverse.
- Booking a non-refundable fare before the visa is granted.
Lucknow FAQ
Is there a US consulate in Lucknow?
No. Uttar Pradesh belongs to the US Embassy in New Delhi, according to the mission's own map, so Lucknow residents travel to Chanakyapuri for interviews. Leave flight paperwork at home: none is asked for, and official US advice says airfare should come after approval.
Can I apply for a Schengen visa in Lucknow?
For the Netherlands, yes: Netherlands Worldwide lists VFS Lucknow among its Indian centres. Germany accepts Schengen files at any VFS centre in India, so a Lucknow counter works if VFS offers one. Spain's provider BLS does not list Lucknow, so Spanish applicants usually go to Delhi.
Is the Lucknow UK visa centre more expensive?
Yes. VFS lists Lucknow as one of twelve UK premium application centres in India, which charge more than standard centres. VFS says choosing a premium centre does not affect the outcome. Compare the fee with the cost and time of reaching a standard centre before booking.
Which larger city do Lucknow residents use for visas?
New Delhi. The US and German embassies that cover Uttar Pradesh are there, as are standard centres for most countries. Lucknow covers Dutch Schengen files and UK premium appointments. For anything else, plan on Delhi unless the provider's own page shows a Lucknow option.
Can I pay ₹699 by UPI in Lucknow?
Yes, from anywhere in India. Razorpay processes our payments, so GPay, PhonePe, Paytm and other UPI apps work, as do Indian cards and netbanking. You pay per person, single or return alike, and a multi-city plan adds ₹699 for every further two sectors.
Should my reservation start in Lucknow or Delhi?
Wherever your application says you will depart. If you will fly LKO to Dubai and onward, start at Lucknow. If your form lists Delhi, start there, or add the Lucknow to Delhi sector as a multi-city booking if you want the whole journey visible.
Can I board a flight with it?
No. A reservation is held without payment, so airport staff will not check you in on it. After the visa arrives, purchase a real fare on the route and dates you want.
Please note: we provide a reservation that supports your paperwork. Only the embassy decides. If your checklist insists on a paid or confirmed ticket, its wording beats our advice.
