Let us be straight with you first: Anand has no consulate, no visa application centre and no airport of its own. If you live in Anand, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Karamsad or the Charotar villages around them, your biometrics and document submission will almost always happen in Ahmedabad, and your US interview in Mumbai. The good news is that Ahmedabad has submission centres for Canada, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Japan, and GOV.UK recorded a UK centre opening there in 2017. This guide lists them from the official pages, quotes the flight wording on each checklist, explains the Vadodara and Ahmedabad airport choice, and shows how to order a reservation online for ₹699.
Anand applicants: the essentials
| Need | Where it is (official source, checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Nearest airport | Vadodara, 42 km, according to the Anand district website[1] |
| Nearest international airport | Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad (AMD), 95 km[1][2] |
| US visa interview | US Consulate General Mumbai, whose district includes Gujarat[3] |
| UK | GOV.UK recorded a UK visa application centre opening in Ahmedabad in March 2017; confirm the current address with VFS[4] |
| Canada | VFS Canada centre in Motera, Ahmedabad[5] |
| Schengen | VFS Ahmedabad for Germany, the Netherlands and Italy; BLS Ahmedabad for Spain[7][9][10][13] |
| Japan | Mumbai consulate; VFS takes submissions in Ahmedabad[14] |
| Our fee | ₹699 per person; UPI, card or netbanking through Razorpay |
Where does an Anand resident actually apply?
In Ahmedabad for nearly everything, and in Mumbai for the US. Anand district's own website says plainly that "Anand does not have an airport", and our search of the official centre lists turned up nothing in Anand or Vadodara for the countries below.[1] The trip to Ahmedabad is the price of applying from Charotar.
Gujarat sits in the Mumbai consular district for the US, Germany, France, Italy and Japan, and the Spanish partner places it under Spain's Mumbai consulate.[3][6][8][9][11][12] For most of them you never go to Mumbai, because the Ahmedabad centre forwards your file. The big exception is the US visa interview, which happens at the US consulate in Mumbai itself.
France is the one we could not quote. Its Mumbai consulate covers Gujarat, but the document list comes from the France-Visas website for your profile, and that site would not load for us in October 2026.[8] Use the list it generates for you and follow its travel wording.
Germany also has an Honorary Consul in Ahmedabad, by appointment only.[6] Honorary consuls are not visa offices. Your Schengen file still goes through VFS.
What does each country's checklist say about flights?
| Country | Where an Anand resident files | Wording on travel | Our suggestion |
|---|---|---|---|
| UK | Ahmedabad centre[4] | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" sit among documents you need not send[15] | Usually leave out |
| Canada | VFS Ahmedabad for biometrics[5] | IRCC gives "flight details" as an example of travel-plan evidence[16] | Reservation helps |
| USA | Mumbai consulate[3] | Don't buy tickets until the visa is issued[17] | Optional |
| Germany | VFS Ahmedabad, decided in Mumbai[7] | "Flight reservation"[18] | Reservation |
| Italy | VFS Ahmedabad[9] | "Return flight details or airlines reservation printout"[19] | Reservation |
| Netherlands | VFS Ahmedabad[10] | A reservation will do; "paid" tickets are not needed[20] | Reservation |
None of these lists insists on a paid ticket for an ordinary visit. If a document you receive later says "confirmed" or "paid", follow it to the letter; a held reservation may not satisfy that.

Parents visiting children in the UK, Canada or the US
This is the most common reason people in Anand ask us about flights, so here is how each country treats it.
UK. Parents apply online and then attend a VFS centre; GOV.UK recorded one opening in Ahmedabad in 2017.[4] GOV.UK says flight bookings are not needed for a visit.[15] Spend your effort on the sponsor's letter, funds and ties to home instead.
Canada. IRCC treats a flight itinerary as useful evidence that a parent's visit has a clear end date.[16] A reservation shows a defined trip without buying a fare you might not use. Biometrics are taken at VFS Canada in Motera.[5]
USA. The interview is in Mumbai, and Washington's advice is not to buy tickets first.[17] Some parents carry a printout of planned dates for their own confidence. That is fine, as long as they describe it honestly.
Example: grandparents from Karamsad going to Toronto
Imagine a retired couple in Karamsad whose daughter lives in Brampton. They plan to spend three months there from late January. They apply online and are told to give biometrics; they book VFS Motera for a Tuesday morning.
We would suggest they upload a reservation that shows Ahmedabad to Toronto with a connection, both names exactly as in their passports, and the return about twelve weeks later. Ordered a few days before they submit online, it shows the officer a clear, bounded trip. Once the visa is approved, they buy the actual tickets, perhaps on the same routing. In our view that is far better than paying for non-refundable fares before a decision.
Example: a Vallabh Vidyanagar student's summer in Europe
Now picture a postgraduate student in Vallabh Vidyanagar heading to the Netherlands for a three-week summer school. The Dutch tourism checklist asks for a booking in her name covering the journey in and out, and says outright that a paid fare is unnecessary.[20] She applies at VFS Ahmedabad.[10]
A reservation from Ahmedabad to Amsterdam via a Gulf hub, made three or four days before her appointment, matches the wording. The admission letter, accommodation and insurance all cover the same dates. If her university arranges travel itself, she simply uses that instead.
Vadodara or Ahmedabad: which airport for the reservation?
For an international trip, the reservation will normally start in Ahmedabad. The district website lists Vadodara as nearest at 42 km and Ahmedabad's SVPI as the next, at 95 km.[1] SVPI describes itself as an international airport with separate domestic and international terminals.[2] We did not find any international service listed for Vadodara, so a Vadodara start would usually mean a domestic leg first.
Emirates publishes Ahmedabad to Dubai flights on its own site, with onward connections across Europe and North America.[21] SVPI also posts a terminal advisory: since 29 March 2026, Air India and its Express sister airline use T2, not T1.[2] It does not change your visa file, but it matters on the day you really fly.

Spain, Japan and Italy from Ahmedabad
These three are less common from Anand, but each has a centre in Ahmedabad and a quirk worth knowing.
Spain. Gujarat falls under the Consulate General of Spain in Mumbai, and BLS lists a Spain Visa Application Center in Ahmedabad.[12][13] BLS describes the tourist category as being for people who buy a tour or make "a booking of tickets and hotel".[12] Ask BLS whether a reservation satisfies that for your case before you rely on one.
Japan. VFS accepts Japanese visa files in Ahmedabad for the Mumbai consulate, and takes cash, cards and UPI there. Holders of a passport issued in another state can still apply there, VFS says, by adding an official address document for Gujarat.[14] That helps students and workers who moved to Anand from another state.
Italy. Italy's Mumbai consulate collects files through four VFS centres, Ahmedabad among them, and its tourist list is content with return flight details or an airline reservation printout.[9][19] Italy also sets a residence test: half a year living lawfully in the consulate's area, bar a few exceptions.[22] If you came to Anand recently, check that rule before booking.
Do you need a reservation at all?
Only where the list asks for one or where it clearly helps. For the UK, no. For the US, it is optional and we would usually skip it. For Canada, it is a sensible piece of evidence. For Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, a reservation is exactly what the lists describe. For Spain, check with BLS. When in doubt, follow the official checklist rather than a friend's advice, and certainly rather than ours.
What to carry to the Ahmedabad centre
- The printed reservation, one page per PNR, with all names visible.
- A note of the airline and PNR on your cover letter.
- Consistent dates across the reservation, invitation, insurance and leave or college letters.
- Proof of address in Anand, especially if your passport shows an older address elsewhere.
Ordering from Anand, step by step
- Confirm the office: Ahmedabad for most countries, Mumbai for a US interview.
- Read the flight item in your checklist.
- Open our booking page and enter the route from Ahmedabad (or wherever you will really depart), dates and passengers.
- Pay ₹699 for each traveller by UPI, card or netbanking.
- Check your email in about 10 minutes, including spam.
- Open the PNR on the airline's site to see it yourself. This guide explains how.
For order status, use tracking. Charotar families paying abroad in dollars or pounds can see those rates on our pricing page.
How many days before the Ahmedabad visit?
Two to four days before is our usual advice. Holds last up to 2 weeks, with each airline deciding the exact period, and some are briefer. If you book the day you get a slot a month away, it may lapse before anyone reads it. For an online application such as Canada's, order it a few days before you upload. If the visa office later asks for updated plans, get a fresh one.
Planning the trip into Ahmedabad
Anand sits on the busy Mumbai to Ahmedabad rail line, and the district site notes that most trains on that route stop there.[1] For an early slot, travel the evening before or catch an early train with a margin. Take originals, one set of copies, the printed reservation and a pen. Children and elderly parents need their own appointment confirmation where the centre asks for one.
Students from Vallabh Vidyanagar heading abroad
If you are studying in Vallabh Vidyanagar or Anand and applying for a course abroad, your file is not a parent's visit file. Look first at whether your study checklist mentions a flight at all. If it does not, leave it out. Where a list does ask for travel details, a reservation that matches your course start keeps the dates tidy, and the real ticket can wait for the visa.
One more point for students who came to Anand from another state. Italy expects six months of legal residence in the consular district.[22] Japan's VFS page lets you file with Gujarat address proof even if your passport came from elsewhere.[14] Check the rule for your destination before you book an Ahmedabad slot, so you do not make the trip for nothing.
Things to avoid
- Waiting for an Anand centre that does not exist; book Ahmedabad.
- Buying non-refundable tickets before a US or Canadian decision.
- A reservation starting in Vadodara when you will actually fly from Ahmedabad.
- Edited PDFs from unknown sources that the airline cannot find.
Anand FAQ
Is there any visa centre in Anand?
Not on the official lists we checked in October 2026. Canadian, Dutch, Italian, Spanish and Japanese submissions are taken in Ahmedabad, GOV.UK recorded a UK centre opening there in 2017, and a German Schengen file can go to any Indian VFS centre. US interviews take place at the consulate in Mumbai, since Gujarat falls in its district.
Which airport should my reservation start from?
Usually Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, 95 km away according to the district site. Vadodara is closer at 42 km, but we found no international service listed there, so trips from Vadodara normally connect elsewhere first. Use the airport you would actually depart from.
Do UK visitors from Anand need a flight booking?
No. GOV.UK's supporting-documents guide treats a flight booking as unnecessary for a normal visit, transit being the exception. Most parents and tourists leave them out and concentrate on finances, the sponsor's letter and ties to Gujarat.
Should I add a reservation to a Canadian visitor visa application?
It can help. IRCC asks Canadian visitor applicants to show how long they will stay, and it names flight details as one option. A reservation shows a clear trip without committing to a fare. Order it a few days before you submit online.
Will I have to go to Mumbai for a Schengen visa?
Usually not. Germany lets you file at any Indian VFS centre, and the Netherlands and Italy both list Ahmedabad. Spain's partner BLS has an Ahmedabad centre too. The files are decided in Mumbai or elsewhere, but you only travel to Ahmedabad. The US interview is the trip that genuinely needs Mumbai.
Can I pay by UPI from Anand?
Yes. Our checkout uses Razorpay, so UPI apps, Indian cards and netbanking all work. It costs ₹699 per traveller, single or return, and the same again for each further pair of flights on a multi-city plan. We run no office or counter, so we cannot accept cash.
How long does the reservation remain valid?
As long as 2 weeks, depending on the carrier, which sets the precise length. Book it close to your appointment or upload date. If your appointment changes, order a new one to match.
Can I board a flight with it?
No. Without a paid fare, check-in staff cannot accept it. Once your visa is approved, buy the real ticket for your chosen dates.
