Pune applicants deal with a split that most other cities don't. You can usually submit your visa file in Pune itself, at one of several VFS centres. But the consulate that decides it is in Mumbai, and some countries have no Pune centre at all. Then there's the airport. Pune's international network is short, so your flight reservation may sensibly start in Mumbai rather than at Lohegaon. This guide works through all of that using official pages: who covers Maharashtra, which centres Pune has, what the deciding consulates write about flights, and how to time a reservation for a Pune appointment.
Pune visa key facts
| Question | What the official pages say |
|---|---|
| Who decides Pune files? | Mumbai consulates for the US[1], Germany[2], Italy[5], Spain[7] and Japan[9], all of which list Maharashtra. |
| Centres in Pune | VFS for Italy[5], the Netherlands[10], Japan[9] and Czechia[11]; UK and Canada centres were listed by their governments in earlier notices.[12][13] |
| Spain | No Pune centre on BLS's list of Indian centres; the nearest in the same jurisdiction is Mumbai.[8] |
| Pune airport | Run by the Airports Authority of India; air traffic control is provided by the Indian Air Force.[14] |
| International flights from Pune | Air India Express lists Bangkok and Abu Dhabi[15]; IndiGo announced Bangkok and a daily Dubai service.[16][17] |
| What it costs with us | ₹699 per person for one-way or return reservations, payable by UPI, card or netbanking. |
Which consulate decides a visa you file in Pune?
Almost always a Mumbai one. Maharashtra is listed in the districts of the US Consulate General[1], the German Consulate General[2], Italy's Consulate General[5], Spain's Consulate General[7] and Japan's Consulate General[9], all based in Mumbai. Germany adds a twist: a Schengen file for Germany may be lodged at whichever Indian VFS centre suits you, and Mumbai decides it regardless.[3]
Italy describes the arrangement clearly. Its VFS partner runs offices in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune and Kochi, collects documents and passes them to the Consulate General. The power to evaluate applications and decide them rests with the consulate alone.[5] When the clerk in Pune accepts your file, that is a completeness check, nothing more.
Czechia is an exception to the Mumbai pattern. The Czech Embassy in New Delhi publishes its own list of VFS centres in India. That list says applications could be lodged at VFS Pune from 23 March 2017.[11]
Which countries have a visa centre in Pune?
| Country | Pune centre? | Decided by | Flight wording on the checklist |
|---|---|---|---|
| Italy | Yes, VFS[5] | Consulate General, Mumbai | "Return flight details or airlines reservation printout"[6] |
| Germany | Any VFS centre[3] | Consulate General, Mumbai | "Flight reservation"[4] |
| Netherlands | Yes, VFS[10] | Dutch mission in India | Use the checklist VFS gives you |
| Japan | Yes, VFS[9] | Consulate General, Mumbai | Depends on visa type; read the VFS list |
| Czechia | Yes, VFS (from March 2017)[11] | Embassy, New Delhi | Check the embassy's checklist |
| Spain | Not listed[8] | Consulate General, Mumbai | "Flight bookings (roundtrip)"[19] |
| UK | A Pune centre opened in 2014[12] | UK Visas and Immigration | Flight bookings not needed for a standard visit |
| Canada | Pune was on IRCC's 2020 list of Indian VACs[13] | IRCC | Itinerary showing how long you'll stay |
Japan's VFS page gives Pune an indicative 12 days of processing, two more than files lodged in Mumbai itself.[9] It accepts cash, card and UPI at the Pune counter. You can also have your passport couriered back for an extra fee rather than making a second trip to collect it.[9] For a student or IT worker who can't easily take another half-day off, that courier option is worth the money.
The Netherlands from Pune: the clearest wording of all
If you are applying for the Netherlands at the Pune VFS centre, the Dutch tourism checklist spells out the flight item more plainly than most. It wants "a reservation in your name" showing how you enter and leave Schengen (other proof of plans also works) and adds: "You do not need a paid travel ticket."[22] The same checklist wants a colour copy of the reservation, so print in colour rather than relying on a black-and-white office printer.[22]
That wording also tells you what the reservation must do: carry your name exactly and show both directions. A one-way booking to Amsterdam with no exit from the Schengen area falls short of "to and from", however genuine the PNR is. For a family, each traveller's name should appear.
Spain without a Pune centre: what to do
Go to Mumbai, or to another BLS centre that serves the Mumbai jurisdiction. BLS's contact page lists Spain centres in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kochi and Puducherry within that jurisdiction, among others, but none in Pune.[8] For most Pune residents, Mumbai is the obvious choice.
Two Mumbai-jurisdiction rules travel with you. You need six months' residence in the jurisdiction. And your departure must fall more than 15 calendar days after submission, or the centre can turn the file away, unless the consulate has okayed an exception by email.[7] Plan the trip to Mumbai and the flight date together. Say your BLS slot is on Wednesday 18 November: the outbound flight on your reservation should be on 4 December or later.
The consulate itself advises against buying a ticket before the visa is granted.[19] A reservation is the right document here.

Pune airport or Mumbai: where should your reservation start?
Start it where you would actually board. For a short-haul trip, that can be Pune. Air India Express says it connects Pune to international destinations including Bangkok and Abu Dhabi.[15] IndiGo announced its first nonstop international flight from Pune, to Bangkok, and then a daily Pune–Dubai service from November 2024.[16][17] A Thailand trip or a Gulf connection to Europe can therefore begin at Lohegaon quite naturally.
Pune Airport is run by the Airports Authority of India, and AAI's own page for it lists air traffic control as provided by the Indian Air Force.[14] That doesn't affect your visa. It does help explain why the long-haul network is limited compared with Mumbai.
For direct long-haul flights, you may well go to Mumbai. Since 15 July 2026 that includes Navi Mumbai International Airport as well as the older airport, according to Adani Enterprises.[18] If that is your plan, a reservation leaving Mumbai is honest. If you would fly Pune to Mumbai first, put that domestic leg on the reservation too. Either way, the dates must match your hotels and insurance.

Comparing three ways to show a Pune trip
| Routing on the reservation | When it fits | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Pune → Gulf hub → Europe, and back | You'd fly from Lohegaon with one connection | Check a carrier really serves Pune on your dates |
| Pune → Mumbai (domestic) → long-haul | You'd fly to Mumbai first and connect | Leave a realistic connection time between the two flights |
| Mumbai → long-haul, and back | You'd travel to Mumbai by road or rail | Nothing, provided the rest of the file agrees |
When should you order for a Pune appointment?
Two or three days before the slot. Your reservation holds for two weeks at most, and the airline decides exactly how long. Ordering the night before also works, since delivery takes about 10 minutes, but it leaves no slack for a typo.
If your appointment is in Mumbai for Spain, count back from that date instead and add the travel day. Picture a BLS slot on a Monday morning: you might drive down on Sunday, so order on Thursday or Friday and check the booking before you leave Pune. Our guide to booking around an appointment goes further.
The general Schengen window still applies too: lodge the application between six months and 15 days before departure.[20]
One more Pune habit worth adopting: keep a single folder, paper or digital, holding the reservation PDF, the appointment letter and a note of the PNR. If VFS reschedules you by a week, you can see at a glance whether the booking still covers the new date or needs replacing, without digging through your inbox on the morning of the slot.
US visas for Pune residents
The Consulate General in Mumbai covers Maharashtra for the United States, so that is your post.[1] A flight reservation plays almost no part. Washington's advice to B1/B2 applicants is to wait for the visa before fixing plans or paying for flights.[21] What the interview turns on is your purpose, your ties to Pune and your finances. If you want a reservation simply to settle your planned dates before filling in the form, that is fine; just don't expect it to carry weight. Our US visa guide has more.
Planning a several-country Europe trip from Pune
Work out the main destination first, because it decides the consulate. Then show each internal leg. Italy's Mumbai checklist asks for proof of every journey inside the Schengen area, on top of the return flight details.[6]
An example. You plan four nights in Venice, two in Vienna and two in Munich, flying home from Munich. Italy has the most nights, so you apply to Italy, at VFS in Pune, and Mumbai decides. The file needs the outbound flight to Venice, the Venice to Vienna train or flight, Vienna to Munich, and Munich home. Leave any of those out and the officer has to guess how you get from one hotel to the next. Our guide to multi-country Schengen routes has more patterns.
Flight-related slips we see on Pune files
- A route nobody flies. Showing a nonstop from Pune to a European city that no airline operates from Lohegaon looks invented. Use a real connection.
- A domestic connection that's too tight. If you show Pune to Mumbai and then an international departure, leave enough time between them for an honest itinerary.
- Forgetting Spain's 15-day buffer because the appointment is in another city and the date was booked in a hurry.
- Passport issued before a move to Pune. For Japan, VFS accepts passports from outside the Mumbai district if you add government address proof, so bring it with you.[9]
Students and young professionals in Pune
If this is your first trip abroad, three habits help.
- Know which visa you are applying for. Schengen short-stay visas follow the rules above. Long-stay national visas for study or work have their own checklists; follow those, and see our student visa guide.
- Match your leave approval. If your manager approved 10 working days, the reservation should fit inside them.
- Use your passport name, not your email name. Corporate IDs often shorten names. See our name format guide.

Pune FAQ
Is there a Spain visa centre in Pune?
Not on BLS International's list of Spain centres in India. Spain's Mumbai consulate covers Pune, which makes the Nariman Point BLS centre the practical option. Remember the Mumbai-jurisdiction rule: travel must be more than 15 calendar days after you submit, unless the consulate approved an exception.
Can I submit my German Schengen application in Pune?
German Missions say a Schengen file can be lodged at any Indian VFS centre, Pune's included, before the Mumbai consulate decides it. Their checklist names a flight reservation, and a purchased ticket brings no faster result. Check the VFS site for the current Pune address and slot availability.
Should my reservation start from Pune or Mumbai?
From wherever you would genuinely depart. Pune has some international flights, for example to Bangkok and the Gulf, but long-haul nonstop options are mostly in Mumbai. If you'd fly Pune to Mumbai first, include that leg. Consistency with your hotels, insurance and form matters more than the airport.
How many days does Japan take for a Pune application?
VFS gives an indicative 12 days for applications submitted in Pune, compared with 10 in Mumbai, and says the Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai can change that at its discretion. Apply early enough that your reservation dates still make sense if the decision takes longer.
Which mission decides a Czech visa I submit in Pune?
The Czech Embassy in New Delhi, not a Mumbai consulate. Its own list of VFS centres in India says applications could be lodged at VFS Pune from 23 March 2017. Download the Czech checklist for your visa type, and check the current Pune address on the VFS site, because centre addresses change over time.
Do you have an office in Pune?
No. DummyTicketPrice is an online service. Order online, settle the ₹699 by UPI, card or netbanking, and look for our email, typically ten minutes later. There is no counter to visit, and we will never ask to meet you in person.
How long will the reservation stay valid?
Two weeks at the outside; the carrier sets the actual length. For a Pune appointment, order two or three days ahead; for a Mumbai appointment, count the travel day too. When a slot shifts, re-enter the PNR on the carrier's site and buy a new reservation if it has expired.
