Hungary is the one country in this series where the answer changes depending on which embassy you face. Apply in India and the Hungarian list asks only for "proof of intended means of transport and itinerary", which a reservation meets comfortably. Apply in Oman and the Embassy in Muscat asks for a "valid, paid, return flight ticket". Doha, Kuwait and Riyadh sit somewhere in between, each with its own phrasing. So before you book anything, find the list for the post that will actually decide your file. This guide quotes each Hungarian list we could reach in October 2026, says plainly where a held reservation fits and where it may not, and covers jurisdictions, fees and timing. For rules every Schengen member applies, see the Schengen visa flight reservation guide.

| Visa fee | €90 for adults and €45 for ages 6 to 12 under EU rules.[1] |

Who needs a visa for Hungary?
The Embassy in New Delhi states that nationals of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan can enter Hungary for a short stay only with a valid C (Schengen) visa.[3] The same applies to most Gulf residents who hold Asian or African passports. Kuwaiti citizens also need a visa, according to the Hungarian Embassy in Kuwait, though they may now receive multi-entry visas of up to five years.[7]
The New Delhi page also makes a point many applicants miss: a visa is "only a preliminary permission" to enter, and travellers can be asked at the border to show they still meet the entry conditions.[3] In practice that means carrying your real return ticket, bookings and money when you fly.
What the Hungarian list in India says about flights
The Embassy sets its requirements out on its "Short Term Stay" web page rather than in a downloadable form. Under documents for all applicants, the first line is: "Proof of intended means of transport and itinerary."[3] The same wording appears in the EU's harmonised list for India, which the Embassy also links.[4]
Further down, the tourism section separates two kinds of trip. For a package, the list asks for "the booking confirmation of the travel agency". For a private trip, it asks for hotel reservations, a "detailed itinerary" and "means of travel between member states".[3]
What this means for you: an Indian applicant meets Hungary's flight requirement with a genuine round-trip reservation that matches the form, plus bookings for any train or bus between countries. Nothing on the page asks for payment.
Two other details on the Indian page are stricter than some neighbours. Income tax acknowledgements are requested "for the last three assessment years", and if someone else is paying for the trip, the sponsor must submit the same financial documents too.[3] Insurance must come from the list of the GI Council and cover "the full duration of the trip including the return trip".[3] So your policy end date and your return flight date need to match.
What Hungarian missions in the Gulf ask for
This is where Hungary differs from Poland or Czechia. The Gulf lists are not uniform, and one of them asks for payment outright.
- UAE (VFS checklist for tourism): "Flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight and 1 photocopy thereof."[6]
- Kuwait (Embassy page): supporting documents "such as a flight itinerary, hotel booking, and proof of travel medical insurance", and a separate note that the application and attachments "just like confirmed flight ticket and accomodation" must be submitted at least 15 days before travel.[7]
- Qatar (Embassy in Doha): "valid flight ticket (return)" and "valid hotel reservation".[8]
- Saudi Arabia and Bahrain (Embassy in Riyadh): "Copy of a valid flight ticket including details of the itinerary and the flight reservation number."[9]
- Oman (Embassy in Muscat): "valid, paid, return flight ticket" and "valid hotel reservation (preferably paid)".[10]
Read them in order and a pattern appears. The UAE list names a reservation in plain words. Kuwait mentions both an itinerary and, in a timing note, a "confirmed" ticket. Doha and Riyadh say "ticket", with Riyadh also asking for the reservation number. Muscat says "paid".
Where a reservation fits, and where it may not
Better you hear it from us now than from a VFS counter later. Here is our reading, mission by mission.
| Mission | Key words | Our honest reading |
|---|---|---|
| New Delhi and Mumbai | "Proof of intended means of transport and itinerary"[3] | A held reservation fits well. |
| UAE (VFS) | "Flight ticket or flight reservation including return flight"[6] | A held reservation fits, with the return leg shown. |
| Kuwait | "Flight itinerary"; elsewhere "confirmed flight ticket"[7] | Mixed signals. Ask the visa centre which they want before you book. |
| Doha | "Valid flight ticket (return)"[8] | Unclear. "Ticket" can mean either; confirm with VFS Doha or the Embassy. |
| Riyadh | "Valid flight ticket" with "flight reservation number"[9] | Unclear. A reservation shows the number, but the word is "ticket"; confirm first. |
| Muscat | "Valid, paid, return flight ticket"[10] | A held reservation may not satisfy this. Consider a refundable paid fare. |
For Oman in particular, we would not advise relying on a held booking. A fully refundable fare, or one with a small change fee, is the safer route if you live in Muscat and Hungary is your main destination. Our reservation is the right tool for India and the UAE, and for the other Gulf posts once they confirm a reservation is acceptable.
Which Hungarian office handles Indian applications?
Applications go through VFS Global. The Embassy in New Delhi covers most of northern, central and eastern India, and the Consulate General in Mumbai handles the west and south.[3]
| Hungarian post | Indian states and territories |
|---|---|
| Embassy, New Delhi | Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, Chandigarh, Ladakh. It also covers Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Bhutan.[3] |
| Consulate General, Mumbai | Permanent residents of Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry, Telangana, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.[3] |
Unlike some embassies, Hungary's India page gives the 15-day limit as a legal ceiling rather than a typical figure: a decision "must not exceed 15 calendar days", extendable to 45.[3] Plan your reservation date around the appointment, not around those numbers.
If you are refused, the appeal window is short. You have eight calendar days from receiving the decision to lodge an appeal in person at the Embassy, and the appeal fee cannot be reduced or refunded.[3] If you appeal, a fresh reservation for realistic new dates is often useful.
Is Hungary your main destination?
The Hungarian Embassy in Abu Dhabi explains the rule with examples that are hard to improve on. Visiting Italy for seven days and Hungary for three means you apply to Italy. Visiting Hungary for five days, Austria for four and the Czech Republic for three means you apply to Hungary.[5] Equal stays go to the country you enter first.[1]
A Budapest, Vienna and Prague loop is the classic Indian itinerary here, and the night count decides it. If Prague comes out on top, our Czech Republic visa guide applies; if Austria does, see the Austria visa guide.
For a Hungary-led trip, show each border crossing. The Indian page asks for "means of travel between member states" on private trips.[3] A multi-city or open-jaw reservation works well: fly into Budapest, return from Prague, and show the train in between.
What your Hungary flight document should show
- The return leg. The UAE, Doha and Muscat lists all name it.[6][8][10]
- The booking reference, which Riyadh calls the "flight reservation number".[9]
- Names spelt as on the passports of everyone in the application.
- A return date inside your insurance. The Indian page wants cover that includes the return trip.[3]
- Dates that match hotel bookings in Hungary and any other country you visit. Our hotel booking for visa can cover unbooked nights.
- Dates that match approved leave. India asks for the employer's statement on holidays; the UAE list asks for a leave certificate.[3][6]
Getting the flight part right, one step at a time
- Count your nights per country and be sure Hungary leads.
- Read the list for your own mission. In the Gulf, the flight wording changes from post to post.
- If the list says "paid" or "confirmed", ask the visa centre whether a reservation is acceptable, or plan for a refundable fare.
- Book your VFS appointment.
- Reserve the flights shortly before that date. The booking page shows you the hold length before you pay.
- Test the PNR on the airline's "Manage booking" page and compare it with the form. Our pre-submission verification guide shows what to look for.
- Print a copy as well as the original. The UAE list asks for the flight document "and 1 photocopy thereof".[6]
How close to the appointment should you book?
Book within a few days of it. Because our bookings stay valid for up to two weeks, with the airline choosing the last day, one made a month early can expire before the appointment.
Imagine a Kolkata applicant with a VFS slot on 6 March and a flight to Budapest on 1 April. We would book the reservation on 3 or 4 March. It is live on the day, and the 15-day legal limit means the decision should come before the end of March. If the Embassy asks for more papers, rebook the same dates.
From the UAE, the Abu Dhabi embassy allows applications from six months out down to 15 days before the trip, and it urges people to apply early.[5] Early application is fine; just keep the flight reservation itself close to the appointment.
Applying for Hungary from the Gulf
| Where you live | Submission point | Useful details from the official page |
|---|---|---|
| UAE | VFS Global, Abu Dhabi (World Trade Centre Mall) or Dubai (Wafi Mall) | Citizens or residents only; residence permit valid 3 months past your return; 6 months of bank statements.[5][6] |
| Kuwait | Hungary Visa Application Centre (VFS), Kuwait City | Fees in cash or K-Net; residence permit valid 90 days after you leave Schengen.[7] |
| Qatar | VFS Hungary Visa Application Centre, Doha | QAR 386 from age 12, QAR 193 for ages 6 to 12; QID copy; 6 months of bank statements. The Embassy also handles Denmark and Latvia for Qatar residents.[8] |
| Saudi Arabia | VFS Global–Etimad centres in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al-Khobar | Employer letter attested by the Chamber of Commerce; 3 months of bank statements.[9] |
| Bahrain | VFS Global–Etimad centre, Manama | Processed by the Embassy in Riyadh.[9] |
| Oman | VFS Global, Muscat (Panorama Mall) | Paid return ticket requested; 6 months of bank statements for non-GCC nationals.[10] |
One difference from India: the Abu Dhabi page says the Schengen procedure takes 15 days, extendable to 30, and in exceptional cases to 60 when more documents are needed.[5] Build in extra time if you apply from the UAE. Whatever the country, start and finish the flight in the place you live. Indian residents of the Gulf can read our Gulf-based Indian expats page for the rest of the file.
Small mistakes that hurt a Hungary file
- Using a held reservation in Muscat, where the list asks for a paid ticket.[10]
- Two years of tax returns from India when the Hungarian page asks for three.[3]
- A sponsor's papers missing when a parent or spouse pays for the trip.[3]
- Insurance that stops before the flight home, although India asks for cover including the return trip.[3]
- No photocopy of the flight document on a UAE file.[6]
- Missing the eight-day appeal window after a refusal.[3]
Can Hungarian officers check a reservation?
Hungarian posts do not describe how they verify bookings. The Kuwait page says the Embassy may interview applicants, and the India page says the consul can ask for further documents.[3][7] A genuine booking code opens on the airline's site with the passenger's surname. An invented one does not, and false supporting documents are a refusal ground under the Visa Code.[2] We provide real reservations only and do not alter or fabricate tickets.
Hungary visa flight reservation: questions people ask
Does Hungary accept a flight reservation for a visa from India?
Yes. Every applicant in India must show how they will travel and their itinerary, per the Embassy in New Delhi; a real round-trip booking does exactly that. Private travellers should add a detailed itinerary and transport between Schengen countries. Pay for the flight itself once the visa is issued.
Why does the Hungarian Embassy in Oman ask for a paid ticket?
The Embassy in Muscat lists a valid, paid, return flight ticket among its supporting documents; it does not explain why. With "paid" in the wording, a held booking could be judged insufficient. Residents of Oman can buy a refundable fare or ask the Embassy whether a reservation is accepted.
Applying for Hungary from Dubai: is a reservation accepted?
The VFS checklist for Hungary in the UAE asks for a flight ticket or flight reservation including the return flight, plus one photocopy. A held reservation with a live booking code fits that wording. You can submit in Dubai at Wafi Mall or in Abu Dhabi, as a UAE citizen or resident.
Which Hungarian office handles applications from Chennai?
Tamil Nadu is in the Consulate General in Mumbai's area, according to the Embassy's page. You still book and submit through VFS Global. The Mumbai consulate decides the case; the 15-day limit and the 45-day maximum apply in the same way as in New Delhi.
How many tax returns does Hungary want from Indian applicants?
The Embassy's page asks for Indian income tax return acknowledgements for the last three assessment years, which is one more than several other Schengen lists. If a sponsor is paying, the sponsor's financial documents must be submitted as well. Bank statements should cover three months and be stamped and signed.
Can I appeal if my Hungarian visa is refused?
Yes, within eight calendar days of receiving the decision, in person or through someone with your power of attorney, at the Embassy. The appeal must be in writing, in Hungarian or another official EU language or translated. The fee is not refunded even if you win, and new documents can be added.
Price and booking
What we sell is a live airline booking in your name with a PNR you can check, on your choice of route and dates. It is a reservation, not a bought ticket, so it cannot be used to board; and as explained above, it is not the right document where a list demands a paid fare.
The rate is per traveller whether you need one leg or a return. Multi-city bookings are billed per pair of legs; see dummy ticket price for the breakdown. At checkout, Razorpay offers UPI, card and netbanking options. The document generally arrives within about ten minutes, and track your order shows its status. For the trade-offs of holding a seat with an airline directly, read flight reservation for visa; for other countries see requirements by country, and for exit proof on visa-free trips see onward ticket.
Book your Hungary visa flight reservation
Budapest return or a Budapest, Vienna and Prague route. ₹699 / $9 a head.
Please note: only reserve flights for a trip you actually plan. The Hungarian consul makes the decision, and no reservation can secure a visa.
