How to Get a Dummy Ticket for a New Zealand Visa
Be careful here. Immigration New Zealand asks for proof you will leave, and its staff manual counts tickets or onward travel that is booked and paid for. A reservation from us (₹699 in India, AED 33 in the UAE, $9 elsewhere) shows your planned dates. It does not replace a paid ticket, or the funds to buy one.

- PNR visible on the airline's site
- Hold window displayed before payment
- Not a substitute for a paid onward ticket
What Immigration New Zealand actually says
- On its visitor visa page, INZ says you must be able to show that you plan to leave at the end of your stay. If you pay for your own trip, you can show a ticket out of New Zealand or bank or card statements proving you can buy one, on top of your living costs. Source: immigration.govt.nz.
- INZ's operational manual lists acceptable evidence as actual travel tickets (confirmed or open-dated), or written confirmation from an airline or agent that onward travel is booked and paid for. Source: INZ operational manual.
- The same visitor visa page shows a fee from NZD 441, says 80% of applications are decided within two weeks, and calls September to March the busiest period. It also states that applications must be made online from 1 October 2026.
- Citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are visa-waiver travellers: they need an NZeTA and may be asked for onward tickets and funds. The waiver follows your passport, not where you live. Source: immigration.govt.nz.
- Outside New Zealand, INZ uses visa application centres run by VFS Global, and appointments are required there. Source: immigration.govt.nz.
Last checked: October 2026.
So where does a reservation fit?
Honestly, in a narrow spot. Because INZ accepts proof of funds as an alternative to a ticket, many Indian applicants simply show bank statements and give planned dates on the online form. A reservation is useful when you want the itinerary in your file to look concrete, for example when a host's invitation, a tour booking and your leave letter all need to line up with a specific arrival day. It is not evidence that onward travel is paid for.
| Who you are | What you need | Role of a reservation |
|---|---|---|
| Indian passport, applying from India | Visitor visa, applied for online | Optional planning document; pair it with funds evidence |
| Indian passport, living in Dubai | Visitor visa (your residence does not change that) | Same as above, priced at AED 33 |
| UAE or Saudi citizen | NZeTA | Not enough for the border; carry a paid onward ticket |
Step by step for an Indian family
- Decide dates around the visa timeline. With decisions often inside two weeks but a busy season from September, apply well before a February trip.
- Collect statements showing living costs plus enough to buy return fares.
- Order a BOM–AKL reservation with the family's names exactly as in their passports. Vikram, his wife and son reserved 12 to 26 February 2027.
- Fill the online application with those dates and upload the reservation alongside the bank statements.
- Once visas are granted, buy the actual return tickets before departure. Airlines and border officers may ask to see them.
Things not to do
- Do not tell INZ that a reservation is a paid ticket. Describe it as a planned itinerary.
- Do not arrive in Auckland with only a lapsed reservation; buy a refundable or flexible onward fare instead.
- Do not assume UAE residency gives you NZeTA eligibility; it depends on your passport.
New Zealand visa and ticket FAQs
Does Immigration New Zealand accept a dummy ticket?
Not as proof of paid onward travel. INZ lists paid tickets or booked-and-paid onward travel as evidence, or funds to buy a ticket. A reservation only shows your planned dates.
Can I get a New Zealand visitor visa without buying a ticket first?
INZ lets self-funded visitors show bank or card statements proving they can buy a ticket, in addition to living costs.
I live in Dubai on an Indian passport. Can I use an NZeTA?
No. The visa waiver depends on your passport, so Indian nationals in the UAE still apply for a visitor visa.
Will I need a real ticket at the airport?
Expect to. Airlines and New Zealand border officers can ask for an onward ticket, and a reservation cannot be used to board.

Dummy ticket price by country
The price follows the country of your phone number, not the destination. One way and round trip cost the same; multi-city itineraries are priced per pair of flights and a hotel booking costs the same per stay.

| India | ₹699 per passenger |
| United Arab Emirates | AED 33 per passenger |
| Saudi Arabia | SAR 34 per passenger |
| Qatar | QAR 33 per passenger |

Paid through Razorpay by UPI, card or netbanking. The reservation is emailed in about 10 minutes and stays valid for up to 2 weeks; the airline decides the exact period, so book close to your appointment.
What you receive
The same itinerary format the airline itself sends, with a six-character booking reference (PNR) that resolves on the airline's "Manage booking" page. Every reservation shows:
- Passenger names exactly as on the passport
- Airline, flight numbers, dates and times
- Live PNR / booking reference you can check yourself
- Departure and arrival airports
- Class of travel and baggage allowance

A short walkthrough of the booking page, 1 minute 23 seconds with voice-over: enter your route and passengers, pay, and receive your reservation with its PNR by email.

- Receive your PNR. The reservation arrives by email in about 10 minutes.
Why a live reservation beats a free "ticket generator"
A generated ticket has no PNR. A visa officer who checks it finds nothing, and a refusal for a false document is the hardest kind to appeal.

|---|---|---|---|
| PNR resolves on the airline website | Yes: a live reservation | No PNR | Yes |

| If the visa is refused | Only the ₹699 / $9 fee | Refusal for false documents | Cancellation fees |
| Order accuracy | Issued exactly as entered; check before paying | — | Change fees |
