Whichever line fits, the GDRFA terms speak of a ticket out of the UAE. A reservation is not a paid ticket, so the airline at Mumbai or immigration in Dubai may want the real one.
Example: a Diwali week in Dubai from Thane

Choosing the emirate
Fly into the emirate where you are staying. Mumbai has services to Dubai (DXB), Abu Dhabi (AUH) and Sharjah (SHJ); a family staying with relatives in Sharjah should not show a reservation into Abu Dhabi.
Mumbai-specific slip-ups
- Surname left blank. Many Indian passports have an empty surname field. Enter the name exactly as the passport splits it; agents sometimes “fix” it and create a mismatch with the visa.
- Infant not on the booking. A child under two still needs a name on the reservation if the visa application includes them.
- Assuming visa on arrival. It applies only to Indians holding the US, UK or EU documents listed by GDRFA. Without them, arrange the visa before departure.
- Flying on the reservation. It cannot be used to check in at BOM. Buy the ticket once the visa is confirmed.
