Dummy Ticket for Visa in Phuket: What You Can Lodge on the Island, What Still Needs Bangkok, and Flights from HKT

On Phuket itself you can lodge an Italian Schengen application at VFS, a UK application at the premium centre in the CCM Complex, and give biometrics for an Australian visa. Dutch and Danish files still go to Bangkok. For any list that asks for a round-trip reservation, we issue one with a live PNR for $9 per traveller, by email in about 10 minutes.

Phuket has a large resident population that rarely appears in visa guides: Thai hotel and dive staff, Europeans and Russians running small businesses, Indian and Filipino hospitality workers, and retirees on long-stay extensions. For years almost every visa meant a flight to Bangkok. That has changed for some countries, and this page sets out what can now be done on the island, what still cannot, and how to plan a reservation when the appointment and the holiday start in different places. We operate online only; there is no Phuket office.

The pattern is clear enough. Italy is the one Schengen country we found with a full application centre on the island, so if Italy is honestly your main destination, Phuket saves you a flight. If the Netherlands or Denmark is, you are going to Bangkok whatever you do.

Italy from Phuket: the one Schengen file you can lodge locally

The Italian embassy in Bangkok covers Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, and it has appointed VFS to run centres in Bangkok, Phuket and Chiang Mai, plus Phnom Penh.[2] Appointments are booked through the VFS site for Italy in Thailand.[2]

On flights, the Italian embassy publishes the EU's harmonised list for Thailand. For a tourist it asks for a hotel booking or other proof of where you will sleep, an itinerary when several countries are involved, three months of bank statements and a round-trip airplane reservation.[8] Nothing in it asks you to pay for the flight. Employed applicants also need a company registration and a statement of employment showing vacation days, position and salary.[8] That detail matters on Phuket, where many employers are small resorts or dive shops: ask for the letter early.

Laos residents are a special case. The Italian page says they apply through the German embassy in Vientiane under a representation agreement.[2]

UK and Australian services on the island

United Kingdom. The premium centre at the CCM Complex opens Monday to Friday from 8.30 am to noon.[3] VFS describes it as an optional service at extra cost, and notes that using it has no bearing on the outcome, which rests with UK Visas and Immigration.[3] On flights, our advice is the same as anywhere else: GOV.UK places flight bookings on its list of papers that add little to an ordinary visit file.[9] Our UK visa guide explains what to send instead.

Australia. The Australian embassy announced biometric collection in Phuket from 29 April 2024, in the same CCM Complex building.[4] That saves many island residents a trip north. What you upload with the online application is a separate matter, covered in our Australia guide.

When you have to go to Bangkok anyway

For a Dutch or Danish file, or a US interview, you will be flying to the capital. Thai Airways sells Phuket to Bangkok fares on its own website.[13] Two practical points follow.

First, keep the appointment trip separate from the visa itinerary. The reservation in your file should show the international journey you plan for the holiday, not the domestic hop to your VFS slot. Second, decide honestly where the holiday starts. If you will fly Phuket to Bangkok and connect onward, the reservation can show HKT to Europe with a Bangkok connection. If you will spend a few days in Bangkok first and leave from Suvarnabhumi, start it there. Our Bangkok guide covers the capital's desks in detail.

Routes from HKT that look natural

Phuket's international links are mostly regional, so a long-haul journey usually connects. Singapore Airlines says it flies nonstop from Phuket to Singapore several times a day, in about 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 35 minutes,[14] and Changi then connects to Europe and Australia. Connections through Bangkok, the Gulf hubs or Kuala Lumpur are also everyday choices for island residents.

The reservation lists each sector separately. Copy them onto the form as they appear; do not describe a connecting journey as a direct flight.

Foreign residents on the island: extensions and re-entry permits

Many Phuket residents hold a retirement or business extension rather than a passport that is Thai. Leaving Thailand without a re-entry permit ends that permission to stay. The Royal Thai Embassy notes that you may apply for the permit at the airport before departure,[15] which for most islanders means HKT.

Schengen desks care about this too. The German tourist list for Thailand asks foreign residents for a work permit where one applies and a re-entry stamp from Thai Immigration that remains valid after the return from Schengen.[16] In practice, choose return dates on your reservation that sit inside your extension, and get the re-entry permit before you leave.

Seasonal workers should also check their leave. A resort letter that approves leave only in the low season, say May to September, will look odd next to a reservation for December.

Example: a Kata hotel manager applying for Italy on the island

Say a Thai front-office manager living in Kata wants twelve days in Rome and Florence in late May, when occupancy drops. Italy is her main destination, so she books a slot at VFS Phuket.[2]

Four days before the appointment, she orders a reservation: Phuket to Rome via Bangkok on 20 May, and Florence back to Phuket via Bangkok on 1 June. Her hotel's employment statement shows her position, salary and the approved leave dates, as the EU list expects.[8] Her hotel bookings and insurance follow the same calendar, written in Western years rather than the Buddhist era. She opens it on the carrier's website the night before. After approval she buys a real fare, perhaps a different routing, which is entirely her choice.

A second example: a Patong couple with a Danish file

Picture an Indian chef and his wife, both working in Patong on Thai work permits, invited to a friend's wedding in Copenhagen in October. Denmark has no island centre, so they book a joint VFS slot in Bangkok and a morning flight up from HKT.[6]

The Danish tourist checklist wants a reservation with fixed dates and tells applicants not to buy before the visa.[11] They order one booking with both names: Phuket to Copenhagen via Bangkok, and back eight days later. The domestic flight to the appointment is a separate, paid ticket that never appears in the visa file. Both arrange re-entry permits before the October trip, and both check that their work permits run well past the return date. One reservation, $18 for the two of them.

What to take to the island centres

  • A printed reservation, single-sided, with every traveller's name readable.
  • The PNR and airline name noted on your cover letter in case staff ask.
  • Your extension stamp and work permit copies if you are not Thai.
  • Matching dates on hotel bookings, insurance and the employer's leave letter.

The CCM Complex centres keep short hours, so arrive early and with everything printed; there is little time to fix a missing page on the day.

Friends flying in to visit you on a one-way fare

Residents are often asked by visiting friends whether a reservation will do as onward proof. Thailand's exemption since 15 September 2026 allows 30 days for tourism, and onward travel must leave the country within those 30 days; each arriving foreigner submits the Thailand Digital Arrival Card no more than three days ahead of landing.[17] A reservation is not a paid ticket, so tell your friends to buy a real onward fare or a confirmed ferry or bus ticket. Our onward ticket guide for Thailand has the detail.

How to order from Phuket

  1. Confirm the centre: Phuket for Italy and UK premium, Bangkok for the Netherlands and Denmark.
  2. Fill in our booking page with HKT or BKK as your real starting point.
  3. Use passport spellings for every traveller, including children.
  4. Pay $9 for each traveller by card (see the price page for multi-city trips).
  5. Wait about 10 minutes for the email, and check spam if needed.
  6. Look the booking up on the carrier's website using the code and family name; our verification guide helps.

Order status is on the tracking page.

When should a Phuket applicant order?

Close to the appointment date, not on the day you book the slot. Expect a hold of no more than 2 weeks; the carrier chooses the exact span, occasionally shorter. If you are flying to Bangkok for the appointment, order the reservation after you have that domestic flight sorted, so the dates are final.

Here is how that looks in a real week. With a VFS Phuket slot on a Tuesday morning, we would order on the Friday or Saturday before, check the booking on the airline's site on Monday evening, and print it then. That leaves a comfortable margin while the Italian embassy reviews the file, and nothing has been paid for a flight that may change.

What we would avoid

  • Lodging in Phuket for a country that only accepts files in Bangkok.
  • Return dates outside your extension of stay, or leaving without a re-entry permit.
  • Leave dates that clash with a seasonal employer's letter.
  • Writing "direct flight" on a form when the reservation shows a connection.
  • Edited PDFs. A booking the airline cannot find will hurt your file.

Phuket FAQ

Can I apply for a Schengen visa in Phuket?

For Italy, yes. The Italian embassy lists a VFS centre in Phuket as well as in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The Dutch and Danish pages name only their Bangkok centres, so those files mean a trip north. Your main destination by nights decides the country, not the handiest centre.

Is there a UK visa centre in Phuket?

Yes, a premium one. VFS runs it at the CCM Complex on Chalerm Prakiat Rama 9 Road, weekday mornings from 8.30 to noon. It costs extra and does not influence the decision. Standard centres remain available elsewhere in Thailand. For a UK visit, a flight booking usually adds little to the file.

Should my reservation start in Phuket or Bangkok?

Wherever your holiday really begins. If you will fly from HKT and connect in Bangkok, start at HKT and show the connection. If you will spend time in Bangkok first and leave from Suvarnabhumi, start there. Keep the same starting point on the visa form, insurance and cover letter.

Do I need a re-entry permit before travelling?

If you hold an extension of stay and want to keep it, yes. The Royal Thai Embassy says you can apply at the airport before leaving, and without one your remaining permission ends when you depart. The German list for Thailand also expects foreign residents to show a valid re-entry stamp.

How do I pay from Phuket?

Online by card through Razorpay, at $9 per traveller. Your bank converts from baht. We have no counter on the island and cannot take cash. You will have the PDF by email around ten minutes later, ready to print at your hotel or a print shop.

Can I use the reservation to fly?

No. Without a paid fare behind it, the PNR only reserves a seat, and the check-in desk will refuse it. After approval, pay for the real fare. The same applies to friends using a reservation as onward proof for Thailand: they need a paid onward ticket.

Until when does a Phuket reservation hold?

Up to two weeks, with the airline deciding the precise cut-off. Order it in the week of your appointment, and look it up with the carrier before you go. When a decision drags on and you are asked for a current booking, a new one takes ten minutes.

Dummy ticket price for applicants in Thailand

If your phone number is a Thailand number (+66), a flight reservation costs $9 per passenger, one way or round trip. The price follows the country of your phone number, not where you are flying, so a Phuket applicant pays the same for Dubai, London or Toronto. Multi-city itineraries are priced per pair of flights and a hotel booking costs the same per stay.

Thailand (+66)$9 per passenger

Paid through Razorpay by UPI, card or netbanking. The reservation is emailed in about 10 minutes and stays valid for up to 2 weeks; the airline decides the exact period, so book close to your appointment.

Why a live reservation beats a free "ticket generator"

A generated ticket has no PNR. A visa officer who checks it finds nothing, and a refusal for a false document is the hardest kind to appeal.
