Bandung has universities, textile firms, tech start-ups and a sizeable community of foreign engineers and lecturers, yet hardly any of the foreign missions that issue visas sit in the city. For most trips abroad, a Bandung resident ends up in Jakarta: at a VFS Global counter, a Japan Visa Application Centre or an embassy waiting room. This guide covers which of those offices you will deal with, what their checklists say about flights, how your KITAS fits in if you are not Indonesian, and how to get a reservation without leaving home. We are an online service; there is no DummyTicketPrice desk in Bandung or Jakarta.
Bandung applicants: key facts
| Item | Detail (last checked October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Local airport | Husein Sastranegara (BDO); Garuda Indonesia restarted jet flights there in August 2026[9] |
| Usual long-haul departure | Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK), reached by road or rail |
| Schengen submission | VFS Global centres; the Dutch list names Jakarta, Bali, Surabaya, Ambon, Makassar and Medan, not Bandung[3] |
| Germany | Lists a "Flight reservation" under the travel itinerary; about 15 days to decide when filed in Jakarta[1] |
| Japan | JVAC Jakarta accepts West Java residents and asks for a "Flight booking confirmation with passenger details"[5] |
| Foreign residents | German and Japanese lists ask non-Indonesians for a KITAS or KITAP[1][5] |
| Our fee | $9 per traveller, paid online by card; PDF by email in about 10 minutes |
Is there a visa application centre in Bandung?
For the missions we checked, no. The Netherlands, which publishes its Indonesian VFS network clearly, lists centres in Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Ambon, Makassar and Medan.[3] Bandung is not on it. The Japan Visa Application Centre in Jakarta states that it takes applications from people whose KTP or KITAS address falls in a list of provinces that includes West Java.[5] So a Japanese visa for a Bandung resident is lodged in Jakarta too.
In practice that means one trip to the capital for biometrics or document hand-in, and sometimes a second to collect the passport, unless the centre offers courier return. Plan the flight reservation around that trip. You want it fresh on the day you stand at the counter in Jakarta, not on the day you first booked the slot.
For the UK, you choose the centre while filling in the online form. VFS announced in August 2026 that UK applicants in Indonesia can also use a Premium Application Centre in South Jakarta and a mobile centre in Bintaro.[7] Neither is in Bandung, so it is still a trip to the capital either way.
What do the Jakarta checklists say about flights?
Here the news is good for anyone who does not want to buy a ticket before a decision. The main lists that Bandung residents meet either ask for a reservation outright or say plainly that payment is not needed.
| Destination | Where a Bandung resident files | Exact wording on flights | What we would submit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Germany (Schengen) | VFS, Jakarta (or Bali, Surabaya)[1][2] | Under "Travel Itinerary": "Flight reservation"[1] | Held reservation with live PNR |
| Netherlands (Schengen) | VFS, Jakarta[3] | "Plane ticket: copy of the flight reservation and travel itinerary", with a note to "make travel reservations which you can cancel"[4] | Held reservation |
| Japan | JVAC Jakarta (West Java is in its area)[5] | "Flight booking confirmation with passenger details"[5] | Reservation showing every passenger's name |
| United Kingdom | VFS, Jakarta, South Jakarta premium or Bintaro[7] | "Flight bookings (unless transiting)" sit among documents UKVI calls less useful[6] | Usually nothing |
| United States | Interview with the US mission | Advice not to buy "tickets until you have a visa"[8] | Optional at most |
One caution. If the list you are handed for a different country or visa type uses the words "confirmed" or "paid" about the flight, a held reservation might fall short. In that case a refundable fare is the safer choice, and we will say so if you ask us.
Heading to Jakarta for your appointment?
Order the reservation two or three days before, for $9 per traveller, and print it in Bandung.
Living in Bandung on a KITAS: what the checklists ask
Bandung has a steady population of foreign residents: engineers at manufacturing plants around the city, lecturers and researchers, and families of people working in Jakarta who prefer the cooler air. Many hold Indian, Pakistani, Filipino, Bangladeshi or Nigerian passports. For all of them, the rules about residence matter as much as the flight.
- Germany: non-Indonesians must show a KITAS or KITAP "to be valid at least 3 months after return", with the original shown at VFS.[1]
- Netherlands: evidence of legal residence in the country you apply from, and the residence permit "should be valid for at least 3 months after departure from Schengen".[4]
- Japan: a "Copy of KITAS for non- Indonesian citizen", plus an immigration office report if the KITAS details differ from the passport.[5]
Read those dates against your own card. Say your KITAS expires on 31 January and you want to visit Germany from 10 to 24 December. Three months after return takes you to 24 March, so the card falls short and you should renew before applying, or at least carry proof that the extension is under way. The flight dates on your reservation are what the officer measures this against, which is another reason to keep them realistic.
The Netherlands adds a line about where you live: its Indonesian page is for people who live in Indonesia, and others are told to check the rules for their own country of residence.[3] If you have only just arrived in Bandung and your KITAS is still being processed, you may need to apply from home instead.
Flying from Bandung: Husein, Jakarta or a connection
For most international trips the reservation should start where you will really board. For a Bandung household that is usually Jakarta.
Husein Sastranegara (BDO) came back to life in 2026. The West Java provincial government reported that Garuda Indonesia resumed jet flights from the city airport in August 2026, starting with a Denpasar route.[9] That is useful for a domestic leg, for example if your onward international flight leaves from Bali, but it is not where most Europe or Japan trips begin.
Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (CGK) is the realistic origin for long-haul. From there, Singapore Airlines runs multiple nonstop departures a day to Singapore,[10] with onward connections to Europe and Japan. Other airlines offer their own connections from CGK; pick the one you would really use.
A reservation that reads Jakarta–Singapore–Frankfurt, or Jakarta–Tokyo, will look entirely ordinary on a Bandung application. If you will take the train or a shuttle to the airport, nothing about that needs to appear on the booking; the cover letter can mention it if you like.

Example: a Bandung lecturer going to a conference in Germany
Picture a lecturer at a Bandung university invited to a five-day conference in Berlin in March. She is Indonesian, so no residence permit question arises. She books a VFS slot in Jakarta for 3 February.
The German list asks for a cover letter with the full itinerary and, under the travel itinerary, a flight reservation and accommodation booking.[1] On 31 January she orders a Jakarta–Singapore–Berlin reservation for herself, arriving the day before the conference and leaving the day after. The hotel booking matches those nights. Her faculty's leave letter states the same dates. She takes the early train to Jakarta on 3 February with everything printed.
Germany's list says decisions on Jakarta files take about 15 days, sometimes up to 45.[1] If the visa arrives on 20 February, she buys the real ticket then, on whatever route suits her and the university's budget.
A second example: a Filipino engineer on a KITAS visiting Japan
Now imagine a Filipino engineer who has worked at a plant near Bandung for three years, on a KITAS that runs well into next year. He wants a week in Osaka with his wife, who holds the same nationality and a dependant's KITAS.
West Java is inside the area the Jakarta JVAC accepts, so they file there.[5] The checklist asks for a copy of each KITAS and a flight booking confirmation showing passenger details.[5] We would put both names on one reservation, spelt exactly as in their Philippine passports, for example Jakarta–Osaka via Singapore. Their bank statements cover three months, as the checklist requires.[5] Nothing about the flight needs to be paid until a visa is granted.
When a university or employer is paying for the trip
Many Bandung trips abroad are sponsored: a campus sending staff to a workshop, a factory sending technicians for training, a research group travelling together. In those cases someone else often buys the tickets, and the question becomes when.
If the sponsor's travel office will book a refundable fare before the appointment, submit that booking and skip ours entirely. If, as is common, they will only buy once the visa is issued, a reservation fills the gap. Ask the travel office which route and dates they intend to buy, and mirror them, so the eventual ticket matches what the embassy saw. A group from one department can share one booking, but each person still needs their name spelt exactly as in the passport.
Keep the invitation letter, the sponsor's letter and the reservation on the same dates. Officers in Jakarta read them side by side.
How to order from Bandung
- Find the right office: in most cases a centre in Jakarta, using the table above.
- Open the current checklist for your visa type and read the flight line word for word.
- Enter your route on our booking page, usually from Jakarta (CGK), with every traveller's name copied from the passport.
- Settle the $9 fee for each person with a card on the Razorpay page.
- Watch your inbox; the PDF normally arrives within about 10 minutes.
- Check the PNR on the airline's website using your surname. Our verification guide shows how.
Lost the email? Find the order on our tracking page. Need the fee in rupees, pounds or dirhams? See our price page.
When should a Bandung resident book it?
Two or three days before the Jakarta appointment. The hold lasts a fortnight at most, with the airline choosing the exact length, and some release seats sooner. Because Bandung applicants often lose a day travelling, people tend to order too early "to be safe". We would rather you ordered on the Thursday for a Monday slot than three weeks ahead. If the embassy asks for more documents later, order a new one then.
Making the Jakarta trip count
A day trip from Bandung is tiring, and a missing page means doing it twice. Before you leave:
- Print the reservation on A4, one side only, so every name, flight number and date is readable. Germany's Jakarta list asks for A4.[1]
- Bring the KITAS original if you are not Indonesian; the German list wants it shown at VFS.[1]
- Write the PNR and airline on your copy of the cover letter in case the officer asks.
- Check the booking on the airline's site the night before, from Bandung, while you can still fix things.
Mistakes we would steer you away from
- Applying in Indonesia with a KITAS that expires too soon. Germany and the Netherlands both measure validity from your return.
- A booking starting from a city you will not fly from, just because it was cheaper to display.
- Edited PDFs or "generated" tickets. If the PNR cannot be found on the airline's site, it does more harm than good.
- Different dates on the flight, hotel and leave letter. Officers compare them.
Bandung FAQ
Can I submit a Schengen visa application in Bandung?
Not at any centre we could find. The Netherlands lists VFS centres in Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, Ambon, Makassar and Medan, and Germany's checklist mentions Jakarta, Bali and Surabaya. Bandung residents normally book a Jakarta slot. Check the VFS page for your destination country before you book, as networks do change.
Will the German Embassy in Jakarta take a reservation instead of a ticket?
Yes. Its tourism checklist, dated November 2024, lists "Flight reservation" under the travel itinerary, beside the hotel booking. It does not ask for a paid ticket. Keep the reservation's dates consistent with your cover letter and insurance, and remember that the embassy alone decides the visa.
Which Japanese visa centre handles West Java?
The Japan Visa Application Centre in Jakarta. Its checklist says it accepts applications according to the address on your KTP or KITAS, and West Java is on the list alongside Jakarta, Banten and Central Java. The same checklist asks for a flight booking confirmation with passenger details.
I am Indian and live in Bandung on a KITAS. Can I apply from Indonesia?
Generally yes, if your KITAS is valid long enough. Germany wants it valid at least three months after you return, and the Netherlands wants three months after you leave Schengen. Japan asks for a KITAS copy. If your permit is about to lapse, renew first or apply from India.
Is there a DummyTicketPrice office in Bandung?
No. We work only online. You type the route and names into our form, settle $9 for each person by card, and get the reservation in your inbox, usually in about 10 minutes. You can print it anywhere in Bandung before you travel to Jakarta.
Should my reservation start from Bandung or Jakarta?
From the airport you would really use. For long-haul trips that is usually Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta. Husein Sastranegara has scheduled jet flights again since August 2026, so a domestic first leg from Bandung is also possible if that is your plan.
How long will the reservation stay valid?
Up to two weeks, depending on the airline, which decides the exact period. Order it a few days before your Jakarta appointment, not when you first get the slot. If the embassy requests updated documents later, order a fresh reservation at that point.
Ready for your Jakarta appointment?
One price, $9 a head, ordered online and visible on the airline's site.
Please note: what we send is a held booking with no fare paid, and no airline will board you on it. Describe it as a reservation on every form. The embassy or consulate decides your visa; no document from us can change that.
