IndiGo is the airline a lot of Indian travellers already know from domestic trips, so it is natural to want it on a visa file too. It now reaches well beyond India: direct flights to London and Manchester, a European network through its codeshare partnership, and many shorter international routes from Indian cities. That mix means an IndiGo reservation ends up in two quite different situations. One is a visa application, where a consulate wants to see your plan. The other is a check-in desk or immigration counter, where staff may want proof that you will leave. The rules for each are not the same, and this guide keeps them apart.

Is a visa file different from an onward-travel check?
Yes, and it is the most useful thing to understand before you choose a document.
A visa application is reviewed weeks before you fly. Consulates mostly want to see a coherent plan, and many tell you not to buy tickets before the decision. A held reservation is designed for that moment.
An onward-travel check happens at the airport or on arrival. Some countries let you in visa-free or with a visa on arrival, but only if you can show you will leave. Here the wording is often stricter. Thailand's visa on arrival, for instance, asks for "fully paid onward travel tickets" within 15 days, while its 30-day tourist exemption asks for proof of onward travel within 30 days.[6] Where a rule says fully paid, a reservation may not be accepted, and you should buy a real ticket. Which trips commonly use an IndiGo reservation?
We see three patterns again and again.
UK and Europe. IndiGo flies direct to London and Manchester and sells codeshare connections to Birmingham and more than 30 European and British points.[4] Its 2023 announcement described these as one-stop flights via Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, reaching countries such as Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands and Malta.[5] If your itinerary connects in Istanbul, the second leg may be operated by Turkish Airlines; our Turkish Airlines guide covers that side.
South-East Asia. Thailand, Indonesia and similar destinations are frequent IndiGo trips. These are mostly onward-travel situations rather than visa files, so read the next section closely.
The Gulf. Many residents of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait fly IndiGo home to India. When they apply for a Schengen or UK visa from the Gulf, the reservation usually starts and ends in their country of residence. For flights on the UAE's low-cost carrier, see our Air Arabia guide.

Could IndiGo's 48-hour Look-in rule replace a reservation?
Only in a narrow case. IndiGo lets you cancel or amend a booking made on its website without a change or cancellation fee for 48 hours, but not when departure is within 7 days for domestic flights or 15 days for international ones.[3] You still pay the whole fare first and wait for the refund.
Here is how that plays out. Say you book Mumbai–Amsterdam on IndiGo for a trip in six weeks, and your visa appointment is three days later. The 48 hours expire before the appointment. Cancel after that and the normal fee for your fare applies. So Look-in is handy if you change your mind about a real trip, and less handy as a visa tool.
How do you check an IndiGo PNR yourself?
- Go to goindigo.in and open Edit Booking.[1]
- Enter the six-letter PNR / Booking Reference printed on your reservation.[2]
- In the second box, enter the passenger's last name as booked. IndiGo also accepts the booking email, but you may not have that one if someone else made the booking.
- Choose Get Itinerary and read the result line by line: names, flight numbers, dates, airports.
- If the reservation names a partner airline for one of the legs, check that leg on the partner's own site too.
Can't retrieve it? The usual reasons are a surname typed differently from the booking, the letter O swapped for a zero, or a reservation held on a different carrier from the one you expected. Why do names matter more with IndiGo?
Because IndiGo will not fix them afterwards. Its FAQ says name changes on a confirmed reservation are not permitted; you would have to cancel and rebook.[2] For a held reservation the same logic applies in practice: a wrong spelling means a new booking.
So before you pay, read each name against the passport's data page. Watch for the first name and surname being swapped, a missing middle name, and a single-name passport typed as two names. It takes thirty seconds and saves a reissue.

When is the right moment to book it?
If it is going into a visa file, aim for 24 to 48 hours ahead of the appointment. Picture this: your Netherlands appointment in Bengaluru is on a Monday. Order on Saturday, check the PNR on goindigo.in that afternoon, print on Sunday. Our form displays the hold period up front, so there are no surprises after payment.
For an airport check on a visa-free trip, ask yourself whether the rule says paid. If it does, buy a cheap, real onward ticket instead. If it only says proof of onward travel, a reservation booked close to departure may be enough, but the airline at check-in has the final say.
Showing a multi-country Europe trip on IndiGo routes
Many first-time Schengen applicants want to see three or four countries. IndiGo's codeshare map makes that easy to sketch: fly into one European city via Istanbul, travel overland, and fly home from another. The reservation should show the flight in, the flight out and, if you are flying between Schengen countries, those internal legs as well. Train or bus legs can be shown with their own bookings.
Two checks before you order. First, count the nights in each country, because the consulate you apply to should be the one where you spend the most time. Flying IndiGo home from the Gulf?
A lot of IndiGo passengers live in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman or Kuwait and fly to India for holidays. When the same people apply for a Schengen or UK visa from the Gulf, the IndiGo route in their head is usually the wrong one for the file. The consulate expects you to leave from, and come back to, the country where you live. So a Dubai resident visiting Spain should show Dubai to Madrid and back, not Mumbai to Madrid.
There is one common exception. If you really are starting the trip in India, for example flying to Kochi for a family event and then on to Europe, show that honestly. Add a line to your cover letter explaining the sequence, and make sure your residence permit still covers the return date with room to spare. What happens after the visa decision?
If the visa is granted, buy the actual ticket you want. It doesn't have to be IndiGo, and it doesn't have to match the reservation to the minute, though staying within the dates the visa allows is essential.
If the visa is refused, you have lost the reservation fee rather than an airfare. That is the whole point of not buying early. Read the refusal letter carefully before reapplying, because the reason is often unrelated to flights: funds, ties to home, or a gap in the travel plan.
How do you order an IndiGo-route reservation from us?

- Add each passenger exactly as their passport reads. Uploading the passport fills this in for you.
- Mention IndiGo in the notes if you prefer it. Holds depend on the airline and route, so ask us on WhatsApp if the carrier is essential.
- Pay by UPI, card or netbanking via Razorpay. The PDF usually arrives in about 10 minutes, and order tracking shows progress.

Honest limits: a reservation shows a plan. It is not a paid ticket, and the decision on a visa or entry belongs to the consulate, the airline or the border officer.

Can an IndiGo reservation be verified on goindigo.in?
Yes, while it is active. Open Edit Booking, enter the six-letter PNR and either the last name or the email on the booking, then choose Get Itinerary. If it opens with your names and flights, it is live. Do this check yourself before your appointment rather than assuming it will work.
Is IndiGo accepted for a Schengen visa?
Consulates don't approve or reject airlines; they look at whether your plan makes sense. An IndiGo flight to Amsterdam, or a connection via Istanbul on its partner, is as valid an itinerary as any other carrier's. What matters is that the reservation matches your form, your hotels and your insurance.
Can I fix a spelling mistake on an IndiGo booking?
IndiGo says name changes on a confirmed reservation aren't allowed, and a ticket would need cancelling and rebooking. With a reservation from us, contact us straight away with the correct spelling. Check names carefully at the booking stage, because a corrected document is a new booking.
Will an IndiGo reservation work for Thailand?
It depends which entry route you use. Thailand's visa on arrival asks for fully paid onward tickets, so a reservation won't do there. The 30-day tourism exemption asks for proof of onward travel within 30 days, where a reservation may be considered, but a paid ticket is the safer choice.
Does IndiGo's Look-in option give me a free reservation?
Not really. You pay the full fare to book, and the free cancellation lasts 48 hours from booking. It also doesn't apply when an international flight departs within 15 days of booking. Unless your appointment falls inside those 48 hours, you'll pay the normal cancellation fee to undo it.
My IndiGo itinerary connects in Istanbul. Where do I check the second flight?
Start on goindigo.in with the IndiGo PNR. If the reservation shows Turkish Airlines operating a leg, you can also look on Turkish Airlines' website, where bookings are found with the reservation code and surname. Our Turkish Airlines guide explains that airline's own lookup and holding rules.
How much does an IndiGo-route reservation cost?
₹699 per passenger in India, or $9 per passenger elsewhere, whether one way or round trip. Gulf prices are AED 33, SAR 34, QAR 33, OMR 3.5 and KWD 2.75. Multi-city routes are priced per pair of legs, and you pay by UPI, card or netbanking.
