Ask anyone in Amritsar about visas and the conversation turns to Canada within a minute, then to the UK, Australia and the Gulf. Families here travel to see children in Brampton or Surrey, to weddings in Southall and Birmingham, and for work in Dubai. Yet the nearest visa centres are not in the city itself; most applicants drive to Jalandhar or Chandigarh. This page sets out which offices handle Punjab, what each country's official guidance says about flights, the return-ticket rule for ECR passports, and what flies out of Amritsar's airport. DummyTicketPrice operates purely online; nobody represents us in Amritsar. You book on our website, pay with UPI, and the reservation arrives by email.

Where do Amritsar residents apply?
Mostly in Jalandhar, Chandigarh or New Delhi, depending on the country. None of the official centre lists we checked named Amritsar itself.
Canada. VFS Global runs Canada visa application centres in Chandigarh and Jalandhar.[12] Jalandhar is the shorter drive for most Amritsar families. The visa decision is made by IRCC, not by VFS.
United States. Punjab and Chandigarh sit in the US Embassy New Delhi's consular district.[1] Plan for the interview in Delhi.
Germany. Long-stay files from Punjab go to the German Embassy in New Delhi, whose district includes Punjab and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.[3] Short Schengen visas can be lodged at any VFS centre across India, and the consulate in Mumbai decides them.[4]
Netherlands and Czech Republic. Both list Chandigarh and Jalandhar among their Indian centres.[6][7]
United Kingdom. Biometrics are given at a UK visa application centre after you apply on GOV.UK; the booking system shows the centres open to you. We could not open VFS's UK centre list in October 2026, so we do not name one here.
What does each country say about flights?
The answer ranges from "useful" to "less useful" to "wait until you have the visa". Here is the official wording side by side.
| Destination | Official wording or advice | Where a reservation stands |
|---|---|---|
| Canada (visitor) | Itinerary evidence may include "flight details, proof of accommodation, registration for an event"[10] | Fits as flight details |
| Canada (transit) | Paper-application guide: transit applicants provide "specific evidence of your travel itinerary from your transportation company or travel agent"[11] | Read your exact instructions |
| UK (visitor) | "flight bookings (unless transiting)" appear among less useful documents[9] | Usually omit |
| Germany (Schengen) | "Flight reservation" is on the tourism checklist[5] | Fits |
| Netherlands | "You do not need a paid travel ticket."[8] | Fits |
| USA | Tickets should wait until a visa is granted[2] | Not needed |

Canada from Amritsar: what the flight evidence is for
IRCC's visitor page asks you to show how long you will stay and what you will do, under the heading of itinerary.[10] Flight details are one example it gives, next to accommodation and event registration. So a reservation is not compulsory, but it is a neat way to show a short, defined visit.
That matters for the typical Amritsar file: parents visiting a son or daughter who studies or works in Canada. An officer wants to see that the parents will come home. A clear return date that matches the invitation letter, the leave or pension papers, and the bank records supports that story. A one-way plan, or no dates at all, leaves a gap.
What we would not do is buy expensive non-refundable tickets before the decision. A held reservation shows the plan; the real fare can wait for the visa.
And if the answer is a refusal? Read the reasons in the letter before reapplying. Whatever the officer names, whether money, family ties or the reason for the trip, deal with that point first, then order a fresh reservation for the new appointment, since the old hold will have expired by then. Our guide to reapplying after a refusal goes through this in more depth.
Example: Ranjit Avenue parents visiting Brampton
Picture a retired couple in Ranjit Avenue whose daughter works in Brampton. They want to stay for seven weeks around her wedding in late July. They apply online and book biometrics at the Jalandhar centre for 20 May.[12]
For the itinerary we would order a reservation around 17 May: Amritsar to Delhi, then Delhi to Toronto on 10 July; Toronto to Delhi and on to Amritsar on 28 August, with husband and wife sharing a single PNR and each name copied letter by letter from the passport. The daughter's invitation letter gives the same dates and the wedding venue. Their pension statements and property papers show strong reasons to come home. If IRCC takes several weeks, the reservation will lapse, which is normal; they have already shown the plan. Once the visas arrive, they buy real tickets for those dates or close to them.
Visiting family in the UK: skip the flight booking
GOV.UK's supporting-documents guide puts "flight bookings (unless transiting)" in its list of less useful evidence for visitors.[9] For a wedding in Birmingham or a visit to relatives in Southall, the officer is far more interested in your finances, your job or business in Punjab, and the sponsor's status in the UK. The guide also asks for evidence that the person supporting you is lawfully in the UK, if someone else is paying.[9]
Our honest view: most Amritsar UK visitors do not need anything from us. The exception is transit. Changing planes at Heathrow on the way to somewhere else? Then GOV.UK wants proof of a confirmed connection departing within two days of landing.[9] We would buy a flexible fare for that, since a seat hold is not a confirmed journey.
Going to the Gulf on an ECR passport
Amritsar's international departures are mostly to the Gulf, so this rule touches many local families. Under MEA rules, someone with an ECR-stamped passport who visits a listed country for anything other than employment shows three things at departure: passport, visa and a "Return Ticket".[13] The UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are on that list.[13]
For this departure check, buy a real return ticket. What we provide is a reservation without a paid fare, which may not meet a rule that names a return ticket. If the trip is for work, the visit-visa route does not apply and emigration clearance is required instead.[13]
What flies from Amritsar's airport?
Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport sits about 11 km from the city centre near Raja Sansi, and the Airports Authority of India says it also serves travellers from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.[14]
Air India Express describes Amritsar's international links as shaped mainly by the UAE, with confirmed routes to Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, plus Muscat in Oman.[15] It also mentions routes to Bangkok and Saudi Arabia, and asks travellers to confirm current schedules.[15]
For Canada, the UK or Europe, expect a connection. A reservation that starts in Amritsar and connects through Delhi or a Gulf hub reads naturally. Starting from Delhi is also fine if that is how you will really travel; just keep the dates consistent with the rest of your file.

Schengen trips from Punjab
Germany's tourism checklist names a "Flight reservation" and adds that a booked ticket will not get the application processed any faster.[5] The Dutch checklist says a paid ticket is not needed.[8] In both cases, a held reservation is exactly the kind of document they describe.
Say a Lawrence Road shop owner plans ten days in Germany and the Netherlands, with six nights in Germany. Germany is the main destination, so a German Schengen visa is the right one, lodged at a VFS centre such as Chandigarh or Jalandhar if Germany offers slots there; the Mumbai consulate decides it.[4] The reservation shows Amritsar–Delhi–Frankfurt out and Amsterdam–Delhi–Amritsar back, matching the hotel bookings city by city.
Australia, New Zealand and other long-haul trips
Punjab's ties run well beyond Canada and the UK, and families here also apply to visit relatives in Australia and New Zealand. We have not quoted those countries' rules on this page because we did not re-check them for this update. Read our Australia visa guide for the detail, and always follow the document list in your own online application.
One general point carries across every long-haul visitor file from Amritsar: the officer is weighing whether you will return. A reservation with a clear return date helps only when the rest of the file supports it, with steady income, family and property in Punjab, and a sensible trip length. On its own, a flight document proves very little.
On the day: a short checklist
The drive to Jalandhar or Chandigarh is long enough that a forgotten page means a second trip. For the travel part of the file:
- Print the reservation on plain A4, one side only, two copies.
- Jot the booking code and carrier somewhere you can see them during the appointment.
- Check the invitation letter repeats the same arrival and departure dates.
- Open the booking on the airline's website the night before you drive.
How to order from Amritsar
- Pick the right country and centre using the lists above.
- Read the flight item in your checklist. If it says confirmed or paid, plan to buy a fare.
- Enter the route and every traveller on our booking form. Copy names from the passport's data page, including middle names.
- Pay ₹699 per head through Razorpay with GPay, PhonePe, Paytm, any UPI app, a card or netbanking.
- Watch for our email, normally within about ten minutes. Look in spam if needed.
- Retrieve the booking from the airline with the PNR and surname. Our checking guide explains each step.
The order tracker shows progress, and overseas currencies are on the fees page.
When should you order it?
Three or four days before your appointment is our usual advice. Expect the hold to survive a fortnight at best; each carrier picks its own cut-off, and some release seats sooner. Ordering the moment the appointment email lands, often weeks ahead, wastes the hold. If a visa office later asks for fresh travel details, a new reservation then is the clean solution.
Mistakes we would steer you away from
- Arriving at a centre that does not serve your destination country.
- A one-way plan on a visitor application where the officer needs to see you coming home.
- Using a reservation for the ECR return-ticket check at the airport.
- Agents selling edited PDFs. If the PNR cannot be retrieved from the airline, it can damage the application.
- Different dates on the invitation letter, reservation and leave papers.
Amritsar FAQ
Is there a visa application centre in Amritsar?
None of the official lists we checked in October 2026 named one. Canada, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic all point Punjab applicants to centres in Chandigarh or Jalandhar, and Germany accepts Schengen files at any Indian VFS centre. For the UK, the GOV.UK booking system shows which centres you can choose after you apply.
Does Canada want a flight booking with a visitor visa application?
It is not compulsory. IRCC's visitor visa page lists flight details as one example of itinerary evidence, alongside accommodation and event registration. A reservation with a live PNR shows a defined trip without paying a full fare before the decision. Make sure the dates match the invitation letter.
Which US embassy interviews Amritsar applicants?
The US Embassy in New Delhi, whose consular district includes Punjab and Chandigarh. You do not need a flight booking for the interview. The State Department's guidance is to hold off on buying tickets until the visa has been issued.
Should I add a flight reservation to my UK visit application?
Generally no. GOV.UK names flight bookings among the less useful supporting documents for visitors. Your money, job or business, and ties to Punjab carry more weight. Transit through the UK is the exception, and there the guidance looks for a confirmed onward journey within 48 hours.
My father has an ECR passport and is visiting Dubai. Is a reservation enough?
For the departure check, no. The Ministry of External Affairs lists a return ticket among the documents ECR holders must produce when visiting listed countries such as the UAE. A held reservation has no paid fare behind it, so buy a proper return ticket for that trip.
How do I pay from Amritsar?
Through Razorpay on our booking page. GPay, PhonePe, Paytm or BHIM all go through, and so do Indian cards and internet banking. Each traveller costs ₹699 whether the trip is single or return, and every extra pair of sectors on a multi-stop route adds the same amount. We do not take cash and have no local agents.
Can the reservation start from Delhi instead of Amritsar?
Yes, if that is how you plan to travel. Many Punjab families take a train or domestic flight to Delhi and fly from there. The consulate cares that the dates into and out of the destination match the rest of the file, not which Indian city the journey begins in.
Ready for your Amritsar reservation?
₹699 per traveller, UPI-friendly, and traceable under the airline's Manage booking.
Please note: a reservation supports your travel plan; it never decides a visa. Name it as a reservation in every form, and where an official rule asks for a paid ticket, buy one.
