What Saudi authorities say about Umrah visas
- The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah launched the Nusuk Umrah service on 20 August 2025 so pilgrims outside the Kingdom can apply for an Umrah visa without an intermediary, with optional packages covering accommodation and transport. Source: haj.gov.sa.

Do you actually need a flight reservation?
Often you do not. If your Nusuk package or agent already includes flights, there is nothing to add. A reservation becomes useful when an agent wants your intended dates before blocking hotel rooms in Makkah and Madinah, when a visit-visa form asks for travel dates, or when a Gulf employer needs flight dates to approve leave. In each case the reservation simply documents a plan; it is not a ticket for the journey.
Planning dates around the thirty-day limit
Count the days from landing to departure, not from the visa issue date. Build in time for both cities: many pilgrims arrive in Jeddah, perform Umrah in Makkah first, then travel on to Madinah and fly home from there. That open-jaw shape (into JED, out of MED) avoids a return trip to Jeddah.
Starting in Madinah instead
Some pilgrims prefer to begin in Madinah and finish with Umrah in Makkah, flying home from Jeddah. The reservation then reverses: into MED, out of JED. Either order works, provided the hotel nights and your Nusuk permit dates follow the same sequence.
Example: a Hyderabad family of five
Ayesha's family plans fifteen nights: eight in Makkah and seven in Madinah. Their reservation shows HYD–JED on 10 January and MED–HYD on 25 January, five names on one PNR, well inside the thirty-day limit. They share the PDF with their agent, who matches hotel nights to it. The price for an open-jaw route appears in the booking form before payment.

Mistakes to avoid
- A return date that pushes the stay beyond thirty days.
- Planning Umrah on a tourist visa during the Hajj season.
- Hotel nights in Madinah that do not follow on from the Makkah nights.
- Arriving at the airport with the reservation instead of a paid ticket.

Does the Umrah visa require a return ticket?
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah pages we checked do not list one. Your agent or package provider may still ask for flight dates, which a reservation can supply.
Can I perform Umrah on a Saudi tourist visa?
Visit Saudi says yes, outside the Hajj season. Holders of visit visas cannot perform Umrah during that period.
How long can I stay on an Umrah visa?
